The Taunton man accused of killing a teen skateboarder in a horrific hit-and-run accident has seen his license suspended or revoked 16 times, but could one day find himself legally behind the wheel again — even if he is convicted — thanks to loose laws that have legislators howling for reform. Paul Baran, 55, has a nine-page driving record that includes leaving the scene of other accidents, drunken driving, speeding, refusing to obey police and nine surchargeable accidents. He has pleaded not guilty to a charge of driving away after striking Nicholas Silva-Thomas, 17, on Thursday, leaving him dying on the road. Prosecutors said Baran admitted to police he hit the teen, but his lawyers said in court that Baran thought he hit an animal. Yesterday, Baran’s license was yanked for the 16th time in 22 years, as he sat behind bars on $100,000 bail. Should this man have been driving?

Mayor William Lantigua, facing a movement to throw him out of office, showed last night he won't go down without a fight, indicating he'll formally challenge all 5,600 signatures submitted on petitions seeking his recall. Lantigua said he'll ask the state, city clerk and city attorney that all signatures submitted by the group pushing for the recall, It's Your Right, be verified. The verification request is one of six Lantigua made in a letter hand-delivered to the Board of Registrars and copied to Secretary of State William Galvin, City Clerk William Maloney and City attorney Charles Boddy. Will he be recalled?

What is worse...As for the relationship status of state prison inmates and Facebook? It’s complicated. On Monday, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said the social media giant’s security department now will coordinate with police across the country to remove Facebook accounts belonging to inmates who have been logging in by cellphone. Accounts both monitored and set up by inmates violate Facebook’s user policies, according to a news release from the CDCR. Additionally, some inmates “continue to engage in criminal activity,” the department said in the statement. The move is intended to help protect the community and prevent future crimes. Or...Michigan has removed about 30,000 college students from its food stamp program — close to double the initial estimate — saving about $75 million a year, says Human Services Director Maura Corrigan. Federal rules don't allow most college students to collect food stamps, but Michigan had created its own rules that made nearly all students eligible, said Brian Rooney, Corrigan's deputy director. As a result, the number of Michigan college students on this form of welfare made the state a national leader. For example, Michigan had 10 times the number of students on food stamps as either Illinois or California, Rooney said

She asked for a refund because they overcharged her for two years and they said that they don't give refunds. The reason they changed her discount was because she didn't re-register her address. Should they be allowed to change without notice and should she recieve a refund?
