Whitey Bulger Back in Federal Court
Audio
06/28/2011
James "Whitey" Bulger will be tried only for the alleged murders of his 19 victims in an effort to get the elderly gangster behind bars as soon as possible, U.S. Attorney Carmen Ortiz announced today. Ortiz announced a 1994 racketeering indictment against Bulger is being dropped — where he faced multiple counts of extortion, loan sharking, witness tampering and conspiracy. The 81-year-old mob boss, who was arrested last week in California, skipped town after being tipped off by a corrupt FBI agent that he was going to be arrested on the 1994 extortion charges. In 1999, after members of his crew turned informant, the FBI added murder and racketeering charges. Will Whitey face a trial and will he face charges in Oklahoma and Florida?
