It's late August. Would you rather hit the beach or discuss immigration reform? The White House seems to be betting on the former, slipping out news of a major shift in the federal government's approach to illegal immigrants at a time when most Americans traditionally hit the road for summer vacation. As President Barack Obama packed his bags for Martha's Vineyard this week, the Department of Homeland Security announced its intention to individually review roughly 300,000 pending deportation cases in federal immigration courts. Lower priority cases -- those not involving individuals considered violent or otherwise dangerous -- will be suspended. Is the way Obama the right way?

DNC chair and Florida representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz told Roland Martin yesterday that Republicans “want to literally drag us all the way back to Jim Crow laws and literally — and very transparently — block access to the polls to voters who are more likely to vote Democratic candidates than Republican candidates.” Wasserman Schultz also claims that voter photo-ID laws are similar to poll taxes. Barely two weeks ago, former DNC interim chair Donna Brazile made a similar charge in a USA Today column. Clearly, the charge will be a Democratic theme for the 2012 campaign. When the race card is played this early in the campaign cycle, there’s also a good likelihood it will be played often. Do you agree with Debbie Wasserman Schultz or is she out of her mind?
