Athiests take aim at Rhode Island town to remove Cross from War Memorial

A national atheist organization is demanding that a Rhode Island city remove a cross from a 91-year-old memorial honoring hometown soldiers who paid the ultimate sacrifice for their county. The memorial has stood in the parking lot of the Woonsocket fire station for decades with no complaints, the Freedom from Religion Foundation is now calling for them to remove a cross that sits atop it, claiming it violates the First Amendment's freedom of religion clause. The group also wants the Woonsocket Fire Department to remove “The Firefighter’s Prayer” and a picture of an angel from its website. Should they have to remove this cross from the memorial?

High energy prices and an economy that has been slow to rebound are worsening Social Security's finances. According to a report issued by the trustees that oversee the retirement and disability program those trust funds will now run dry in 2033. Meanwhile the White House is assessing tax changes that could let the Internal Revenue Service lay claim to a portion of the $18 trillion sitting in 401(k) accounts and other tax breaks used by middle-class workers, including cutting the mortgage tax deduction. Howie predicted that this was the end of the 401k.
