" How the heck is it going down -- talk."
" Well little lovely Ramada in in Syracuse -- You begin with a luxurious accommodations that you have in the minor league and I -- had a great mood that it's been kind of a tough season to date the team is the kind of floating around ten games under 500 near the bottom of their division but. Some of the individuals are doing great and really that is the mission of the triple late came to try and get ready a guys ready to contribute in Boston and they have done that would guys like Kason Gabbard and Jacoby felt Sperry and there are other guys waiting to do the same thing."
" Well as my next question who do you see guys get what guys used to that he called up towards -- season."
" Well I don't think there's any question that dealt very will be back I obviously had 375 this week the Red Sox. I think one guy who hasn't been up this year will contribute in September and I think it meaningful way. It left hander reliever Craig Breslow Lackey went to the all star game this week at the AAA level for the second year in a row. He's been tremendous or Pawtucket and he just gives them another option as a left handed situational guy in September based on the way things have -- they might not need it but it's nice to know you have that option at AAA and he's a guy who's already on the 40 man roster sort will require any additional roster most."
" Morning -- Larry Johnson the question about the -- how do you see him developing."
" He had a terrible year he pitched again last night here in Syracuse he gave up three runs in about an inning. And it's kind of a mystery because this stuff is good he's still throwing in the mid to high 90s his slider occasionally looks great sometimes it really doesn't do much. It's it's really a simple problem for him and it's all about. Throwing first pitch strikes he's fallen behind hitters the most of the season and then had to pay the price money's pumped fastballs right down -- metal. In last night's game he didn't fall behind hitters but all his pitches were up. And even when you throw 95 if you throw a belt high two AAA hitters are going to pay the price in the capital more year."
" In -- or that game my guess recently -- incidental comment gave up a plethora of runs. In yet it seems that -- common now has come up back up -- the Red Sox and he's found his magic again and Hansen hasn't does that surprise you."
" It does a little bit that I came back on the fifth of may upon fact took an eight run lead to the bottom of the night. And then gave up seven many gave up two and they wanted to losing 15 to 14 -- When -- up by eight with three outs to go after that game delcarmen did not give up another run at the AAA level and has only given up two runs since going up to Boston. -- kind of started out doing the same thing he went for maybe three or four weeks about giving up any runs and then he just started getting drilled. And that at one point he gave up runs in seven straight outings so for whatever reason Manny was able to use that. The kind of find his groove in and throw strikes on a regular basis and that Greg has not been able to."
" doing is he -- losing his patience."
" Not at all he's going to pitched tonight doesn't seem to be -- at all by the fact that he's still here I think he. He understands that the Red Sox are doing and frankly he has not been pitching that well lately toward being called up in being part of that rotation I think he realizes that isn't -- We demonstrate that he's pitching as well as he did last year when he got called up you'll go up. But in Toledo able to do that for more than one game at a time there's really no reason right now -- to the red sector rotation."
" You're listening to Dan -- the play by play announcer for the Pawtucket Red Sox and whether talk about the mental toughness you have to are obviously -- everybody -- that are ready overcoming the cancer situation he had to overcome by it. One minute you called the popular in the major leagues then you're back down again then they wanna want him to work his way back up at the strength together got a record for awhile with seven and two. What is this kid mentally tough enough now -- from his baseball perspective -- to hurt rebound or do you find just hanging around down on the air after awhile you start losing your focus."
" I don't see that would put him at all I think the thing to remember which got a lot of people say well. He he overcame cancer less than a year ago and that's the key thing to remember it obviously it is but I think even more than that. The -- 23 years old. I mean what he did last year at the age of 22 it's almost unheard of to go up to the big leagues. Went five straight in Boston what it's evident to a as a rookie before he was diagnosed. You know the problems he's having. Our problems that guys almost always happens when they're that -- to AAA level he's still young for this league this stuff is phenomenal he's just kind of fallen back into that pattern but he had -- you're aware will be in the fifth inning and you look up the pitch count our. And he that a hundred. Because he's fallen behind guys haven't a lot of six and seven pitch at bat. But there aren't many left handed pitchers in minor league baseball at any level who consistently throw and that 94 mile an hour range. And have a great curve cutter and changeup to boot. So it's only a matter of time -- job and I don't see any sign that. Still being in AAA is getting --"
" What has a thing at least he knows he can do it I mean he's already been up. To the big leagues he he's put himself there -- now you Scott finally you know whether or not he can sustain it is another thing but he's going to find a way to get --"
" Yeah exactly and he pitched a complete game when the last time he pitched it was only the seventh inning game which you have in my daily double headers. He won his last two starts and as a -- he pitches again tonight so he's getting closer he's just not quite there yet."
" You know the other good thing up here is that the -- like pitching staff has done pretty well this year."
" Well done great and Julian Tavarez really is has given no reason to be thank god like rotation he's certainly been very solid. And Kason Gabbard has come up and filled in nicely for Schilling so. There's no pressing need right now they're up by ten games and divisions so they have the luxury of a waiting until Lester is all the way back. And by that I mean strictly a what is pitching now with his health before they return into the rotation."
" Rivera -- being 35 at some point the Red Sox after address their catching situation house to terrorist -- he's still struggling with your round to a one now."
" Yeah he did have two hits both doubles last night but before that he had been an -- horrendous slump again he's young he's only 23. But he has a long way to go I think before he's going to be ready to catch the major -- also I do think that if you had to pick out one position in the organization that's a big problem. That would be yet the guys in double -- considered top prospects for a really isn't a catcher. In the minors that that scouts around baseball are really excited about."
" Now we don't say he has a long way to call if there's a difference between struggling with your heating and as a receiver right are you speaking -- if from his just overall ability as a catcher."
" I think both to tell you the truth he's only thrown out about 20% of the runners that are tried to steal against them I get like that to be closer to 40% to 20%. As you mentioned he's sitting around 200 he's displayed occasional power but it's not like he's -- 200 with 20 homers -- so he needs to get better in both areas. He's from Canada he started playing baseball -- age so it it makes sense that his defensive skills would be a little bit behind. At an early age but if he's going to kitchen Boston -- Needs to make as significant improvement."
" What a one last thing -- spurs' teammates when he comes back to Pawtucket okay the fact that phenomenal job so he comes back in the clubhouse these guys are waiting for the return. How -- be hard for him to come back there knowing what he's done a pair in the big."
" Well it's been kind of whirlwind time for Jacoby because he came back to the pocket last Friday right late in a double -- had four hits scored three runs drove in three runs and then the next day he was back on a plane to go to San Francisco. To play in the all star futures game last Sunday they think they have Francisco watched the major league all star game in person as a fan on Tuesday night with his family. I'd just derived in Syracuse he didn't travel with the team from the pocket he met the team here traveling from the west coast. And looked a little fatigue last night he went over five when the rest of the team was -- out 16 hits and scoring nine runs. So why he's dragging a little bit but I expected to be much better tonight."
" So if you're a manager of the process -- then you evaluated more on your record or you're evaluated more on the development of the players eons. Is AAA ball more a place now for guys who can't quite. -- have the future in Major League Baseball so so it's more double -- now."
" No I wouldn't say that as an answer -- that your first question there's no question that the manager at this level is judged on his ability to develop players in the big leagues you want to win your fans want you to win but Ron Johnson's won loss record is relatively insignificant he's trying to get guys ready to contribute in Boston. Now as for whether AAA is a good level for -- considered a quadruple A player of the guys that are kind of good enough for this level but not good enough for the major league level. You have teams like that in this league but I think if you look at that the package roster. It is mostly filled with prospect guys that are going to contribute at the major league level for somebody. It will always be Boston they're going to be guys that -- in that kind of watch out the Red Sox and wind up elsewhere about. I think if you look at the -- of the Red Sox have been a nice job of filling it with legitimate prospects as opposed to moderately lifers."
" Anybody at third base that you see coming up"
" I'm not really with a -- to tell you the truth Chad Spann who is another young kid you had a good year last year in double play was just sent back to double late yesterday he really didn't do very well and -- first. A trial that's AAA level so third base at least on this ballclub is not an area where the Red Sox are likely to get a regular player."
" your rates scales Maas and Murphy."
" Brandon -- really excites me and he's a guy I think that's really devastated under the radar a little bit he's actually younger than helped bury. It is as young and as exciting as it is to have -- very in the organization -- five days younger. He's in the top five in the league in home runs and runs batted in he's getting better than 300. Really the only knock economist but he strikes out obliged but if you hit home runs and doubles who cares so I would be very very excited about Brandon mosque. David Murphy at least right now looks like he could be a decent extra outfielder but needs to hit for more power to be an everyday type player at the -- at the major league level. Bobby scales is an interesting guy he's never had a cup of coffee in the major leagues he's 29 years old but he placed first second short third and outfield. You lead the team in hitting he's a switch hitter somebody's going to give them a chance of eventually and he would be a great extra guy at a major league team I don't think he's someone who would play. And everyday basis in the big leagues that would that kind of versatility could certainly help somebody."
" Yeah on the other guy is puzzling to me is Hansack it came up here earlier and -- he allowed him and then he couldn't find home plate. Where is he now."
" He's going to rotation for Pawtucket and he's been pitching very well lately had a great month of June -- game recently where it took a perfect game into the gate before it gave up a single. You know he's 29 years old he's bounced around a little bit so he's not really a great prospect but could -- go up and be a long man out of in a major league bullpen absolutely. I was in the low 90s as a great slider very resilient arm he's going to be able to go up there and throw -- intend to -- 120 pitches that's no problem. So his future might not be good Boston but I certainly think he's going to the wind up getting a few years of major league time eventually."
" The answer to now what do you. Would come home actually will be home on Monday night and that will -- the triple -- debut of clay buchholz lenient called up from. From Portland yesterday after going seven and two of the 177 Ernie a 116 strikeouts in about 85 innings. So ticket they're going fact that folks want to see a clay buchholz make his triple -- debut about 45 minutes from Fenway look at the opportunity and by the united that it is excited about this I'm very excited it's going to be fun to watch him pitch you know he's only 23. Ranked as the number two prospect in the organization coming into the season and -- he's answered every challenge actually only 22. He's answered every challenge so far double plays so we're really excited -- pitcher Monday night."
" Dan -- thanks for nonstop combine --"
" The flaring up it's a pleasure and you know go ahead and break up can't they cut out."
" with the network which idea it again I can't thank you -- ignored the play by play announcer for the -- that. Red Sox"
