" this Charlie Baker -- Republican candidate for governor your congressman is Tierney but yes minus charity in my congressman has said that he's not sure what he's gonna do here I don't -- well and -- actually put a pretty strong. Message on his website about the fact that this bill the Senate version -- and anyway it -- probably cost Massachusetts five -- 600 million dollars so -- all the now for a -- that -- who knows but the point is David knowledge that this is a pretty difficulties I just don't -- hello Charlie Baker that I was gonna you don't like try to -- with Carol Shea -- up in New Hampshire and tell people all we have made up our mind yet but I you know what we're gonna go you know -- I don't know I guess that's what you say in a close vote because it's sort of maximizes your ability to engage a discussion right. I guess that's what you say but he you know when people figure out that you really had your mind made up all along -- remedy or I don't know that's -- work that's true before I. But anyway 18774. We're gonna get back to talking about health care in a in a little while but the joining us here for this segment is Charlie Baker he is the Republican candidate for governor. And he is he's the front runner right now and he's got his. And I guess the first thing to mention here considering it is. The eve. Of our -- happy holiday. In evacuation day. You want to eliminate the five. But that. You wanna find out what's gonna record up once -- Ramallah if that works for the state or the county are county of Suffolk which is the city of Boston. -- why do you -- eliminate this fine holiday I think truth of the matter is there are a lot of people who are gonna get up tomorrow who lived and suffered coming in they're gonna go to work just like they do in every other day and they're basically going to be paying. For that day off for everybody else and a point in time when everybody acknowledges the state has enormous financial problems and we have a nine and -- half percent unemployment rate. It seems to me that it's not a lot to ask to have. The state get the -- and city government get up and spend tomorrow and doing the same thing everybody else is doing which is going to work. As I said earlier in the registry of deeds will be open tomorrow. In Suffolk County however the registry of probate if you wish everybody register your sex change will not be open you'll have to wait until. Thirsty to join a new gender isn't that isn't how -- I mean I don't get it you know I mean. I understand this holiday pretty well I think but I get confused sometimes why the other one other registry open and the other registry is not."

" One and the other thing you have is everybody who works for state government who lives outside suffered Johnny. Doesn't give the day off but if they work they get a paid holiday that they get to add to there. Calculated members of paid holidays which is equally -- is well. Bottom line is I just think. You know that that there are a lot of reasons for people -- be grumpy about about government the public sector and in this one is just one more and I don't know why I don't think it's good frankly for the public sector to have it. To have a hand out there that did it then makes it. To makes it hard for people who work in the public sector as well as for the people who are paying the bills that they which is everybody in the private sector."

" Baker would also -- in performance bonuses from step for state pension fund managers when investments don't grow what you have some against my travel leaning I don't understand why -- and the state loses money on its investment portfolio. Most who staff the prim go. Got a bonus that seems to me that performance should be based on positive for within lost less money -- other fund manages well I think I think positive performance is positive performance in most people translate that into a number that's bigger than zero. 18774694322. If you like to join us now my newspaper -- your shot the other day -- canning is that right. I felt I should bring about Clinton allow you to just speak to the the issue of of the fact that you won't be you have made a lot of money in the in health care -- their last few years yes. Yeah I am. How -- for the past ten years I've been. Talking a lot about things I think we should do reform health care system and bring the costs under control and in fact. I actually wrote last year when are still working and Harvard program on my blog bit. I thought so little of the current system of health care than almost any reform would be better than no reform and I gotta tell you something congressman instant. Convinced me that there is such a thing as a reform that might be worsen the status quo. But I -- hardly one of these guys who thinks the status quo is a good thing and I've supported. Large number of reforms over the course the past decade all of which I would've loved to have seen this administration pursue when they pursued virtually nothing none of them and instead. Chasing health care reform they spend most of their time prison taxes increasing spending and and not getting people back to work which is really what I hear about every day when in my on the campaign trail. I have to ask you about not attending the Saint Patrick's Day breakfast personally I think it was a fine move on your part I think it was a wise thing to go but you know there are some people they were there were some. -- on the message board yes -- and good you know this is. Why won't he go have some fun he's not one of us he's trying to be better than he's trying to go high hat I I actually you know. There are a bunch people don't on the South Shore who when I had no campaign office no campaign staff. No money no nothing and got into this race called me up and said hey I'm with you I don't know what that means but I'm with you. And they asked me a long time -- go to come to their balance and Patrick stand. And I actually think I did. The thing that most people under that circumstance would do which is I am honored a commitment that I made. To some people who committed to me when they had no idea where it whether whether my campaign was ever gonna get off the ground and I thought that was. You know I thought frankly I was kind of the traditional honorable thing to do which is delivered to a commitment and Amanda some early supporters. 187746943221. Excited that I know I did take a bit of they had their first ethernet Garmin and reg -- I understand. And he talks took somewhat of but I also went there anyway you know I went to I actually went. Friday night last week to a South Boston citizens association's award dinner which was a great event and had a chance to talk to a lot of the folks who were actually at the breakfast or movements from the though he can win when he in the Boston Globe. Admits that -- Saint Patrick's Day breakfast is the mere shadow of its former self I think. Yeah you made the right call up okay thank you. -- There are huge part of the public sector they run completely under the radar they spend an enormous amount. Problem we have getting those pay for -- you know what tomorrow holds over the whole payroll of the whole why every -- agency we have all the payroll that is all -- get them they have a mop. These it's like pulling teeth out of these -- well and that's my name that's why do I think all the stuff should be publicly available there's a huge transparency issue on what they spend money who works for a moment to -- the whole nine yards. I think all of us did ought to be in the public domain because it's taxpayer information and taxpayers are bad -- try another one on while I'm also big believer in the -- licensing and -- reform piece which puts most people to sleep that I am my drift and -- If you talk to a lot of people who do business in Massachusetts he'll tell you that these are. Huge issues Foreman a colossal pain in the -- and has to be a better way okay. And then I'm running out patiently. What about -- confidentiality agreements why why can people basically get paid to -- state government and not talk about what happened when they were there I think -- I think we should never -- idea -- that that the Republican candidate is giving the needle through Tim Cahill has is a minerals shall I just I just think you the end of the day we shouldn't -- are you shouldn't be put into my -- giving -- the the needle. He among others his views this as the device in the past and I think it's an inappropriate divisive think if you do the public's business people ought to be -- leave on their own terms and -- the idea of paying somebody. To not talk about the terms under which they released the left is is not some we should be doing -- the ball left a couple of jobs in the dreaded private sector well I mean are private sector -- its stockholders money your private investors money I think it's a little different and taxpayer money I'm and the other one of courses I do think walked once and for all there's been a lot of attention paid to it. We ought to creative vacationed. -- schedule for the public sector that's consistent with what goes on the private sector mean that issue's been. These are the things that make people in the private sector crazy about the different the two rules between. Public sector world UAW mean how you can you you can as the as they always used to say in Somerville you can fill in your time card with a pencil. Well and then it then that when you check out you got 800 justification. Then I would say days that you like the kind of deal that led -- Amarillo to take up. 2000 dollar fine -- right here I think all that stuff try to get cleaned up because that's the stuff that makes people. Appropriately crazy about the public sector. But you know you know -- with all due respect we've heard this before I mean I've been a -- could could have been here twenty years ago saying exactly the same thing you were saying now and look what happened I mean he threw -- with the -- sometimes sometimes the time is right and sometimes it's not I think for a lot of this -- the time is is is getting there. 1877469432. To where it do one takes the pulse of the little -- What are your plans for today's saint Patrick stay by the way. I'm -- work with. Well actually -- my job as I know interview for a job Osama and I know sake calm and we're gonna have a we have a series of events all day tomorrow all over Massachusetts -- economic -- and other places. And then I'm gonna try and take my son and a couple of his friends to see the drop kick Murphy's on Wednesday on street tomorrow night. Oh by the way. Absolutely Kennedy carpets and right now he's cleaning up my basement he's really after some help from Scott Bauer and victor court earlier in the day you're the only person cleaning out their basement. Oh lot of that I know I am but I wanna I wanna make sure but I think the piano or call smart move 218774694322. What this is Charlie Baker are you sure are you flood it. No we were not flooded the we have the alternative which is we have three huge barrels and tonnes of towels on the floor. The third floor of our arousal and we have a thing midst. It's leaking through the ceiling but I guarantee at some point is just gonna fall and it's such a big pieces ceiling when it falls is probably gonna follow all the way through to the first floor. It's gonna it's it's when these things just look at and you say oh my god -- Tokyo with a broom handle. And you watched the thing vibrate and it spreads across the whole ceiling it's going to be ugly. Time for new roof what exactly well most of the roof most of the tiles on the roof blew off from the storm. Three weeks ago and -- get around to fix them in the meantime and so this time. Sleek and so."

" Donald your next with Howie Carr. And the men who needs a new roof Charlie Baker let go ahead Donald you know to -- Donald."

" I barely tell ya Charlie won't vote could most motorists are strong voters. I think the motors in Massachusetts are under siege from the state from Deval Patrick well -- did you Carmelo registry of motor."

" Yeah you -- and where will you reopen those shuttered offices are open some new ones I mean this is ridiculous figures and there's a bunch of things we do to register one thing we should be doing and many other states have done this is they put kiosks up. It in supermarkets and pharmacies and the -- must make it possible for people to do a lot of the basic transactions. At the kiosks and so he can be in the grocery store picking up a prescription -- at the pharmacy and you can do that simple registry business. And that makes it more convenient for you but it also takes time. Of the foot traffic out of the existing registries and in some states. Where they've done this the folks want the foot traffic and are willing to actually pay for the installation of the -- how dear they shut down 1012 registry branches when they're making what. 34 -- dollars -- and and -- it is a total consumer inconvenience and there are a lot of ways just look at what I want to do things like there's a little -- to close down one courthouse -- acting like -- end of the world I -- they ought to be closing -- like a third of the district court houses -- before they shut down one single registry branch do you great press -- I think the whole thing with the registries has been badly -- that I do believe you can give people a lot more places to go to get a lot of these transactions done if we just got his creative -- some other states have already gotten. Thanks for the call Donnelly good question it's -- one -- us your story -- have a sixteen year old son got his lawyers permit. There's -- there's just a process flow issue here my wife took him to the registry. You know long process -- brought an hour's worth the way to go through this whole thing and then at the end they had to take you kid takes the test. Right after you've -- different hour with your kid doesn't pass the test which mine didn't the first time he was there -- He's gonna hate you for twelve -- my wife turns to the people it says what do we do the test first whether we go through all this other stuff we get a call last week who said she went to the registry to get that the instruction booklet for one of her kids -- and she had to stand in line for an how we're have to buy the book. Yeah she was lucky I was different you know half hour standing by in the booklet your -- I was surprised I licensing and I didn't meaning a picture to -- that I -- do it online there's just there's just but that's smarter way of doing all this that frankly would not only be better for the consumer the paying public the would be better for the people actually work patiently took a pro early and be fired. I think Rachel's pretty talented person."

" And mail."

" And but like anyone else if I'm fortunate enough to win you know everybody's gonna have to re apply no matter who they are so so you would necessarily fire. I would necessarily fire anybody I'm I'm gonna make my own decision if I have to do at that point in time. JJ here next with how we cards Charlie Baker go ahead JJ."

" Our good we got production. Getting jobs we don't -- Or -- a great. Bureaucracy that gets paid. They're friendly get paid everybody they know you like get paid don't get to the generic -- this poor slob like rated trying to make Olympic."

" JJ I -- should in the Sonoma one campaign -- I just what you gonna website Charlie Baker Tony tend our common right on it. There's a video we made about manufacturing in Massachusetts. Manufacturing is still the fourth largest employer in Massachusetts you would never know it to see -- state policy deals of manufacturing. And employs 260000. People. Most of them are small businesses now. You know sort of the big city block long manufacturers aren't there we -- Harold -- and Chuck Norris trophy we still make a lot of stuff in this state then. We should be a lot more serious about producing and figuring out ways to encourage more of that stuff that we have been he's absolutely right about now OK JJ thanks for the call John your next with Howie Carr and Charlie Baker Republican candidate for governor go ahead John."

" Yeah -- challenge first of -- the campaign slogan for a --"

" Comodo rhetoric when -- get the -- and we'll what is -- here's my pen. No we can't."

" Yeah alphabet Charlie where he can do to get rid of the old in the polls but."

" I think there I think the plan and it's also ought to be lived to live up to the commit only made to everybody westar wants when he didn't take down the tolls between 128 and -- the New York border that was commitment that was made a long time ago and."

" At some point got to follow us and we'll follow up question at what about the best of us -- east of 120. We have a two billion dollar definite I don't really know -- a challenge straight out of the gate."

" and challenge us. They didn't get the lower end farm that's provided by the content like Mitt didn't know I militant dip into the wind and you got might."

" Sportsmen the sportsman pay into that -- and -- and -- use for conservation and habitat management purposes and that's what it should be spent on. Thanks for the call John -- next with Howie Carr and Charlie Baker a Republican candidate for governor go ahead chuck."

" Hey good afternoon gentlemen the -- a lot of good luck to the more -- he would -- read about you. The warm up unlike you what I."

" even what you -- when you read the Harold chuck."

" He's going to -- that you know -- actually likely -- immediate. They're really -- despite what I wanna do I got a question for you about these days off my I'm off for you know right. I've ever worked in the public sector roared toward private vacation days and I walked -- they're really going back there always look forward to having. But did you know there's way too many here in this one what we just talk about tomorrow evacuation day and I don't want that are out there. If you are able to get to move to get rid of them what its commitment that they're not just going to lose the day off and get a date off."

" All that's an excellent question chuck I mean this didn't release that it would take it would take. For years have you heard that is a good."

" Always bought on my product remembrance -- it because I've never seen anybody at this. Be able to do that actually get rid of it we just become something else oh yeah -- they're really get them get rid of."

" We'll -- I think the plan ought to be live simply get rid of -- and treated is what it is for everybody else who pays the bills in Massachusetts to the public sector which is a working day and the -- and let me get this free union contract now includes this -- now these two days Bunker -- and evacuations right. Well there -- a lot of things in those contracts knowing there's tons of stuff in there and so it all becomes part of a larger compensation but I I hear what chuck sale and I think it's an -- it's incumbent on whomever the elect the leadership is to make sure they're transparent about whatever it is they're doing and I would agree with them on that point. Thanks for the call chuck a good question 18774694322. Dan your next what powered car and Charlie Baker go ahead damn."

" There's debate here last week government bottle of -- juniors -- legislation to global oil and natural gas. And -- also about extracting nuclear power construction is expected to create thousands of jobs. And billions of dollars in new revenue to the state but that is something that you -- look at. Helped create and they're -- Going in Massachusetts."

" Yeah I don't know deficits have in my head what the what what what the installed base of of power generation is in Virginia but I can say this I think. You know the president opened the door and nuclear power we do have some nuclear power operations in new England and in Massachusetts and I think. We should engage a discussion with the federal DO week about what we can do within the existing sort of -- footprints that we've got. To expand their capacity to generate but he also -- the storm pretty much on offshore drilling while he's president that's why things just -- thing was my -- went -- not really sure we have jurisdiction there but we should have a conversation with -- about. Whether we can expand our existing nuclear capabilities in the places where we -- that cited its there its operating. We should be able to -- to have that conversation with them."

" They stand 18774694322. Gerri you're next with Howie Carr and Charlie Baker Republican candidate for governor go ahead Jerry."

" They've -- I challenge NATO threats -- more about -- not -- and have a golden -- all the."

" FF FF FF. You know there are no further job they're very orderly a clerk magistrate somewhere there is no governor's mansion in Massachusetts I'm still gonna do him a conclusion."

" Let's we don't want you to -- the federal government just Armitage still changes we -- this system. What this process some civil service system to the federal employees retirement where before a lot of employees didn't page. Social Security. And it it sounds they have some federal worker could decide -- there why -- I Almonte go to the other ones that are the different retirement systems but. What would -- that you give it the other would you be if you do that to change is that we don't make these. State jobs so attractive for our target if somebody wants the state job that does then let them kicking and actually to a 34%."

" I think I think that whole issue is going to be a source of a lot of discussion I mean I'm I'm impressed by the way with the quality some of these people who are Cohen and now they know what they're talking about and I think the whole it's funny above being desperate financially how what if -- increases your console generation. I guess what's going on out here though in the general Paul I I agree I hear about this everywhere I go I think during the wet when I would say that is I think. I think the whole issue about pensions and benefits and salaries the whole thing has to be the subject though. All series of reforms zoom and and then changes because the way it's working now is -- million -- sustainable secure and plead guilty republic I think gets a good idea I wish I thought of it for."

" Really she is she's come out for those -- haven't heard about it. She says that the policy going forward she wanted to take away anyone -- could shift button but she says going forward politicians elected official should not get state pensions does it's just a -- just setting a bad exit -- also a conflict of interest I mean I don't know how you can expect somebody. Who actually is in the system. Right to be above that when it comes time to make decisions Bryant and the fact that you know to probably 21 of the top ten guys collecting pensions in the state are our former leaders of the legislature Bulger and partly I mean that's and that's indication on -- out of lacked the whole system at this the other thing is think about you know is that it's always -- worry I cinema board of selectmen is once gone -- we got nothing for that no money no time -- But there are you know. Library commissioners and school committees and boards so I mean all these local elected officials who somehow generate time and then they go get a job working for the county. I said that's stuff feels Bristol county that is in a recent exam that does not have that that's not what this is supposed to be about this is not that's up public service may we Karen brought this up and said -- thought of that what you gonna sign on board I am I forgot I am officially signed an unemployed. Why I heard it here first 18774694322. -- your next with Howie -- and Charlie Baker gore had married and bought."

" Thanks for taking my call Howie I get to comment got experience I had today -- chairman debate would be interested to know that I happened to every go to the registry of deeds in blister. Palatial offices tons of employee. No customers."

" And it. Got a problem with that --"

" Don't know why don't but it looked like about all my fellow Massachusetts residents who Lleyton NYPD. We get the ever registry. And all of these people are sitting there doing nothing and I said well can you read a book. And yet give you gold on line know we check our work from yesterday -- had to work yesterday."

" Area. And -- and that is of brilliant. Notion in observation I mean one of the things I've said over and over again. The state government is so fragmented and so compartmentalized. That we don't actually do things like share capability between agencies and stuff like that mean the point here I mean the whole world is digital now. So in theory you could have people doing a whole variety of of services and a lot of different places in the point here isn't there is a really good when it even thought of that but that's a really interesting idea again I give back to -- they they could shut down a third of those court houses and no one would notice any I mean it's it's it's so apparent that even the judges now we're starting to say let's they want to -- with Kostner. But -- that's that's the tip of the -- but I think some of the so he's being driven by the financial reality of the times that we live in and this is this is to me where and you know financial. Financial crisis and state government instead of being thought of as a toothache which is how a lot of those folks are looking at it now should be viewed as an opportunity. You can have conversations of people -- stuff that normally never they never lets talk about. 18774694322. You gotta go. We're going wanna stuff I do if they are taking -- sorry I. That's all right we will have you on again soon will go back to talking about health care we come back 18774694322. Thanks for me whether Charlie Baker your life. I'm our car."

Arizona Loses the First Round

Arizona's tough new immigration law was just hours away from taking effect when a federal judge issued an injunction today blocking key portions of the law from being enforced. Among the provisions U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton put on hold are the "reasonable suspicion" section that would allow police to arrest and detain suspected illegal immigrants without a warrant and a provision making it illegal for undocumented day laborers to solicit or perform work. Bolton also stayed part of the Arizona law requiring immigrants to carry federal immigration documents. DO you think illegals should be required to carry identification?
