" Good afternoon Boston and welcome to the cheerfully -- show on WRK. Yes we're looking out the window here it is still."
" Raining I concede stomping down on the rooftops all around us and the flag is still blowing north east -- a beautiful flag we concede standard. From Boston but it's still blowing northeast and I would say we're probably gonna have -- through the afternoon of after one of -- nasty is weekends I can remember. But as my wife always says who's such an optimist said this morning hey it could could events now with -- been snow honey and she's right it could have been snow would have about three feet. They got last I heard. 78. Inches of rain. The face -- global warming there. That well thanks to global warming we didn't get snow I think 78 inches of rain probably is up three feet of snow went. Is everybody remembers what had through you know huge nor'easter or snowstorms in March before south. Maybe we did -- out that's supposed to get rather better the rest of the week so. All we can do is cross our fingers and hoped. 6172666868. The number if you like to join us. You can always email -- and it's the Manning at wrko.com. C Manning at wrko.com. We talked a lot just blast Friday about the health care bill and of course all of us have been following it all weekend. The president is saying he wants a vote this week all of his people were out on the Sunday morning talk shows saw yesterday think. We want a vote this week. And the Republicans. Brought out their big gun over the weekend. The one person who can speak really strongly on this issue and is probably the national leader on on defeating Obama care. And that's our US senator Scott Brown Scott did the president the response to the president's. Weekly address. And he knocked it out of the park if you haven't seen it. Jump online and watch the whole thing may actually do them now on video so you get to watch the the political figure in this case Scott Brown do his whole statement. And will be playing big chunks of it during the show today. It's amazing. To think that Scott Brown has become the national leader is making the most cogent argument. And he is the symbol of why Americans are opposed to health care. We've got all kinds this of this Obama care we have all kinds -- news for you this morning. This afternoon on what's going on. The president again is doing one of these campaign style trips he's headed out to straw Zanesville Ohio which is outside Cleveland. He supposed to speak at 1 o'clock in will be monitoring it for you but I think it's probably just gonna be the same old thing."
" If not now when. We're the American people deserve this. Move -- this. With our health care bill passes every one gets coverage it's gonna be great new -- be cheaper will save money and equality of everyone's health care will go up more to win of course none of that's true but that's what the president's trying to push. And this is the weak and we are going to encourage you. To get in touch with your member of congress remember. This is that nasty senate bill. That was passed on Christmas C. It has all of the pay -- the cornhuskers are -- sold the Louisiana purchase. It's not even merely well I wouldn't say the house bill was was all that great either. But it's even worse than the house bill was and they expect to use the members of the house because the of Scott Brown and they have to play these parliamentary games. To vote for the Senate bill. Now one member of our congressional delegation. To the surprise of ever -- I have to admit. Because he's one of the most liberal members he was came out in the US senate races a strong. Supporter of Obama care and and the house bill that was passed back on his watch. But congressman Mike chappell won a boost from Somerville and represents that district all around there. Put out a letter at the end of last week I just sort right after our show ended on Friday. Where he says he's gonna have a lot of problems voting for the Senate bill. Congressman capital wanna write for over year congress and the president have been working to craft comprehensive health care reform. I'm sure you're aware that we have a conference now but there's no conference committee. So their forum focusing on exactly how the Senate bill affects Massachusetts. How it's gonna affect us. Before I decide how much I will lead to the trusting -- conciliation process. So first he says I'm concerned that in reaction to other states specific language that is the now famous corn cornhuskers kickback. Legitimate state specific senate provisions will be dropped. In fact the president wants the Massachusetts. -- language out of this senate bill. It is my understanding without some type of file of language protecting Massachusetts. We could lose in the range of 300. Million dollars per year. I'm trying to gather more information about that but the could be very that if if my concerns are valid. He also talks about how the Senate bill would cut payment. To hospitals like the -- the Boston Medical Center and the Cambridge health alliance which a ball in his district. By 42. Billion dollars do you think the quality care will be better at Boston Medical Center are in Cambridge health alliance if the funding is cut by 42 billion dollars. He's looking into that aspect of the Senate bill. He also goes down to talk about how doctors get paid. And how. Due to the probability of much lower payment rates to Massachusetts doctors. This proposal seems that it is though would influence. Where doctors practice so that's discouraging practice in Massachusetts and we have a shortage of doctors now. How they treat patients and so called high cost areas and how doctors will be trained in America so he goes down point by point. Over what his problems are with the Senate bill and I have to tell you right I admire Mike cap of one offered do we -- We're gonna have him on the show later this week were hoping now Wednesday or Thursday to talk about this before the big vote. We've got a call to and they said he will definitely come on. -- said I'm sure you've heard. -- this is how we concludes I'm sure you've heard that there is to push to have the house vote on this bill next week. Which is this week now I don't know of that goals attainable but it must but I presume it must be real. And he says please feel free to contact my office if you like to. Discuss this further. So Mike Capital One no one of our most liberal members of congress because of what this bill does to Massachusetts. Is probably gonna come out and vote against it. And of course this this letter was on a a website called blue mass group. Which is basically. Among the most liberal moon -- web sites that we have. In when you look through the comments it goes from. Just pass the damn bill mr. congressmen. To. Government is always about the calm common good. Massachusetts it should suffer a bit when you're one of the richest state in the country and we have a very rather nice headstart on this issue. It would only be fear from Massachusetts to get the short end of the stick on health care reform. So here of people moon bats responding to my cap of one -- letter. Saying that well that's fine with than -- Massachusetts gets the short end of the stick in this. Were ripped stage we can handle it so wide if we lose doctors if we lose funding. If our hospitals get underfunded and Q and give the treatment to people that they deserve all the things Mike apple one most concerned about. It's amazing that that's how the -- that's field but that's why they support Obama care. 6172666868. The number would love to have you join us 6172666868. The other thing I wanna bring your attention on health care it's an amazing column written by Robert Samuelson the the much honored. Economist he writes a regular column in Newsweek so you know you know where that's coming from. But he got eight. Wonderful column today as we head into this week when the votes gonna be coming down Obama's proposal is the illusion of reform. One of the jaw in one of the one job of the president is to educate Americans about crucial national problems. On health care Barack Obama has failed. Almost everything you think you know about health care is probably wrong or at least half wrong. The -- education has worsened as the debate approaches its climax. So what Robert Samuelson is saying here is that the White House in President Obama has intentionally. Been going out of his way to not tell the truth about this legislation. Here's what he writes he goes on how often for example have you heard the emergency room argument. Yeah uninsured it is that use emergency rooms for primary care that's expensive and ineffective. Once they -- show for when Obama care passes they'll have regular doctor's care will improve cost will decline. Everybody wins it's a great argument. Unfortunately. It's and true. And he goes through all of the stats about why it's untrue and why that argument the president Obama's is simply dishonest. And then finally he into is Colin and in this is amazing from a Newsweek columnist he says. He's telling people what they want to hear what not what they need to know. Whatever their sins insurers I mean -- intermediaries. They pass along the costs of the delivery room. In that of the delivery system in 2009. The largest fourteen insurers had profits of roughly nine billion. And that approached point 04%. Of total health care spending. This hardly explains the high health costs. What people need to know was that Obama's plan of aids help -- major problems and would worsen the budget outlook. It's -- it's -- beat new spending program when government hasn't paid for spending programs that already had. If not now when if not us who Obama asked the question is if not now it's not us. Pass or not Obama's proposal is the illusion of reform. Not the real thing. That's from Robert Samuelson. Just takes Obama tear apart. In yet they're still pushing it and you'll see President Obama saying the same things over again today that. If if we can get this story. If what are your health care costs will go down you'll have better health care coverage your. What the respond to get from them for health care it's gonna be better for you. And will save money it won't cost us more money every single thing is is Samuelson points out dishonest. 6172666868. The number or if you wanna email us he intended to see Manning at wrko.com. C Manning at wrko.com. Let's grab our first call this afternoon Rick in the car you out they are you evading the puddles the get around."
" Our -- go -- in bad weather bag holding decision."
" So division."
" It is the break Bennett I guess what Scott Brown this stuff -- there. Despite that and yet it gets passed the bill -- bills got at all I want."
" Well here's the whole thing though this vote is gonna be in the house got a member of the --"
" It's got in the Senate. Gas doesn't get a vote and that's why I'm so glad you brought this up -- because this is the time. I've had so many people and thanks of the call -- had so many people. Come up to me since Scott -- one in the exit you know I never worked on a campaign before. But this time because things were so important I went over like at some signs from Scott and I put -- law and we held signs all weekend. -- I I I never made a phone call before but I got on the phone I called all my friends and relatives and neighbors and asked him to vote for Scott and told them why they should vote for Scott. And I never gave a contribution before but in these are tough times but darn it we brought a check over to the Scott Brown campaign and and it really made a difference. Well if you have never called your congressmen before this is the time to do it. All lauded these congressmen are facing major opposition. You've got to be polite when you called -- really urged them say you'd be so disappointed. If Niki Tsongas. Or Ed Markey or Jim McGovern or Steve lynch or Mike -- 010. Decided to vote for this health care bill. The vote's gonna be this week they're pressing ahead. And this is the time you can really make a difference just call their office and let them know. The fact that someone like Mike -- me vote against it shows you there's the chance. There is a chance to reach these people. And the argument is definite Michael lays it out in this letter you can find is his lead at the chapel on a letter on the Internet -- does a good job laying it out is. That it's bad for Massachusetts. It's really bad for our state. And we're gonna get the short end on the Senate bill. In any number wait it's gonna hurt us with doctors it's gonna hurt us with funding it's gonna hurt the quality of of our hospitals. It's bad for Massachusetts. And that's the key point the you can make Niki Tsongas has to be worried about reelection."
" My -- probably won't have a strong opponent but he's looking the other way. Odds are looking to go the other way now and vote against this. Steve lynch likes to pass himself off sometimes as a conservative who puts the taxpayers side interest in ahead of everyone else. That's why we need him to do it if you ask me the the congress people that congress members of congress in Massachusetts that. Really would listen if you gave McCall are probably not Barney Frank but probably Niki Tsongas probably Steve -- Probably. Mike cap of 10. You can't give cap of one -- call given some props say hey I'm I'm I'm prodded view that you're just not gonna vote the way the and Nancy Pelosi is telling you to vote -- you're really taking a look at this and that. You're really looking out for what's gonna be better for Massachusetts. So this is the time. Give us a call and RKO we can talk about it would love to hear from you. 6172666868. But make sure you call your congressmen or if it's -- your congresswoman to. This is the time to reach out to him today is the data do it 6172666868. On the Charlie Manning --"

" Pushed this so far is he just said. You've wasted a year trying to do this instead getting out they are in creating jobs which is what the American people want. Instead they've been pushing something it's gonna hurt jobs that's gonna hurt our country's economy. It's amazing and Scott tie I was so excited when I watched his response the president over the weekend. And have heard that it is one of the most."
" Found on more high in responses to the president that we've ever did that. Has ever. Happened that people all over the country. Word bear to two love watching and in theory even the folks who didn't you know -- on Saturday morning so. Great job by Scott Brown he's the real leader on this issue now we've got to get members of our delegation here in Massachusetts to vote against it. 6172666868. Payments to the states where Massachusetts it least is gonna lose somewhere in the neighborhood of 300 million dollars a year it's gonna hurt our hospitals according to Mike. It could certainly. Affect the supply of doctors and nurses here. It's it's it's it it's. There is Scott has said all along it's bad for Massachusetts."
" Yeah. -- my original point I'm -- we -- match also."
" But still it's gonna be the -- high eating piece of legislation in the country and it's gonna affect whatever we have going on here. Of course."
" Including efforts to bat for Massachusetts if we're going to lose jobs it's bad for the economy. As a literature citrus and now maybe if I was and how. Well Mississippi. War. " Well first of all they have an idea in the country that's over 65 you know this is one of the -- that you know. He sealed bombs that we got to make sure -- senior citizens have coverage we don't have that it called it's called Medicare. When you Terrence. Five you get Medicare. And."
" Government sponsored program exactly okay and every -- this is all I don't want government to arrange for chip well. -- you've -- your health -- entirely and and."
" And then for folks -- Medicaid. So all this talk about all the support folks in naked and they don't have any health care. Medicaid is a better plan than most of us have. The only thing is the only thing is they expend too much money in their great team the country. That should wind Obama says we're gonna control costs. We say. Will -- about Medicare are you controlling costs there how about Medicaid are you controlling costs there. He says you get to -- you get to keep your own doctors. Will guess what a lot of doctors because of the slashing the payments from Medicare coverage say I can't I can't afford to cover folks web Medicare."
" So you don't get to your -- series usage specious argument you know no it's not uses -- to measure the usual -- doctors all. Pardon."
" And there's a lot pockets graduating from -- met us who don't graduate from medical school -- years ago will be more that willing to step up and -- That's cringed I mean you talked about death penalty but the continent of."

" true the I think he's -- all down that way. And then strangely congressman chapel waddle whose may be one of the most liberal members of our our our delegation. Let's grab one more call injury and can't -- next with Charlie Manning and W Arcadia."
" I'll go this afternoon shall I hope that you don't institute a one colleagues we'll look at some blowing on Monday. But we can't regarding Steve lynch is my congressman. A public about the last Thursday. Well they had received the bill yet of course he had to read it. But let me go back and give -- a little history just from last fall. One of the people on the short list to replace Ted Kennedy was -- lunch he wasn't being put in Nancy to vote no on how here and he wouldn't step. I've even had a town meeting last. The -- Eddie Pope Paul the week because of Kennedy's staff. But if you want calling adopted every day didn't even know about it. It wasn't that totally open form and then not to anybody could like -- the question it was a it was a a little bit too structured format like it. People don't want this -- Speed of one the last poll was taken it was Saturday night I'm sure -- remembered about 1035. And the congressional offices were open I called Steve mention the opposite 9 o'clock got a staffer who said the congressman did not I was gonna vote. On Monday morning after the vote was taken I called Steve luncheon buffet and spoke -- effort that. They did know how he had thought that it took me three days to find out but I didn't know already that he had voted for the bill. So he went -- the big games you mentioned I think he's concerned he really isn't his constituents. Don't want the belt. That country those that people of this country don't want the bill I guarantee open about the common all -- we -- in again I would help. They gonna county doesn't yet know how we got a bar on the go is no way the --"
" here's what you can say Andrea very very nicely you know say it will look. The bill is the one that passed on Christmas you in the Senate. That's the bill that they're going to be voting on so sick so of course Congressman Lynch has had. Plenty of time to read that bill there's not gonna be any changes in fact they can't change it. If they change it in any way than they have to start the whole process over again and Scott Brown can block it why are doing it this way."
" Let -- you'll already see where I'm not getting the full story and I always leave my name. Address and telephone number of by the way and I will also tell you that I don't I don't write to him too often because I caught and I email. I never get a letter back which I really distressing I used to be on his calendar lives I get a great talent there because I voted for him the first time he ran I'll never do that again."
" But hi I'm Scott Brown do and can't."
" Scott Brown probably laughed and can't then -- and I know what I was going into about and it is stated in the people of this state like after twenty minutes to watch. A lot of people going in and out I kept saying to Scott Brown and -- out occupied it ever really it's yes or no are not think. But I wanted to just make one reference so that -- a prior column talked about Medicare and doctors will be happy to step up to the plate. I'm a nurse and I'll tell you what's gonna happen and it already that's happened to an extent. Doctor don't get reimbursed at much from Medicare residual from other insurers like the argument that says people -- by the insurance if the -- of subsidizing Medicare well. Once once nobody had the and I don't know the current Prez is gonna be subsidizing it. What doctors still is they don't have to accept Medicare and a lot of them don't they don't have to take math help even more of them don't. And you can also limit you quote exposure to the low reimbursements. By limiting your patient quote to handle which made security have 20% of the patients on Medicare and that's why you think that -- practice can handle. You don't take anymore Medicare patients. Let me also tell that element."
" Exactly -- nobody was talking about when when the New York Times writes stories. In amazement that some doctors won't accept Medicare. I tried to get my mother to see some doctor and he said I'm sorry we don't accept Medicare."
" So they -- my my advice is if you run Medicare and -- especially -- there any end to that place -- right now they'll take you because they won't throw you off the penal that just -- everybody else the way. Com but there was there was one other thing that I had wanted to say."
" It up because we got a bunch of calls here. But to keep this up to date on Steve lynch were signing you to Steve. And that that he hasn't had a chance to read the bill in very politely remind his staff people that. The bill has been out since Christmas Eve he's had plenty of time to read it the vote's going to be on Thursday or Friday we need to know how he's gonna vote. And if you live in Steve Lynch's district you gotta give them a call I do you think you'll listen in -- and calling and 6172666868. Student -- car you're next with Charlie Manning."
" Epicenter there at which computers but I. I don't have healthcare. Edit because there may retire. -- So -- but I do have formed. A company about that but percent. What yeah I've got -- and -- get this help you there you go. It is. Lucas says at no point as rested bill Aurelio and certain people to their credit -- politicians. But ignored actually just built. And directly out beat anybody but instead it."
" Well that's the great the great story and I was reading before. Meant thanks for the call Stewart and stay dry out -- it is still nasty."
" I was reading before. By Bob Samuel send the the I -- Nobel prize winning economist. Where he says."
" And."
" About the president he's telling people what they want to hear it know what they need to know. Whatever their since insurers are mainly intermediaries."
" What people need to know is that Obama's plan of State's health -- major problems would worsen the budget outlook. It's a big new spending program when the government hasn't paid for spending programs that already has. That's the problem with this that's what's going on 6172666868. On Charlie Manning chip."
" Manning number amid very post bids Charlie remembering -- Boston's -- resume hay Adams dictating W arterial exit. Surgeons drill our -- and hear what this guy has -- do you get him. For free bears Charlie -- on Boston's -- M 680."
" That it is legislation. -- health -- that a healthier manner."
" That of course."
" Is the speaker of the house Nancy Pelosi who's trying to get this to ram through this week. Everybody out there is doing a great job just got a call from someone who lives in Niki tsongas' district I guess you as an end over. This caller and she said that she called Niki tsongas' office and she was told by an -- that. Niki Tsongas believes in the bill and will vote for this bill no matter what the people of her district thanks. No matter how badly this bill is gonna affect Massachusetts. She's just caving in to Nancy Pelosi in doing what she's told. We just got an email if you wanna email us we'd love to get them. Season ending at wrko.com. C Manning at WRKO talk on this from a listener in Milton. There is nothing in this bill that will help lower the cost of medical care how ever they're gonna limit the care to senior citizens by. 500. Billion dollars that's right they're gonna cut Medicare which is already running out of money by 500 billion dollars and do you think you'll get. Better treatment before they cut it by 500 billion dollars. Or worse treatment. Under Medicare when they cut it by 500 billion dollars. And it's in she writes that NASA's chief did America has the senior citizen boom coming with all the boomers. Coming along in becoming senior citizens and this is the not the time the two -- coverage. Look out you'll except this bill and you're going to have to take -- Your benefits will be limited big time and she says please call your representative and that's what we're saying is. And if Niki Tsongas is gonna vote for this. You've got to maker remember in November and pay at the ballot box in November. Other folks you probably wanna call -- John Tierney sure congressman give him a call. Steve lynch and Mike apple Lotto who's who's standing up on this I'm very impressed with my cap of 10. 6172666868. Tom in the car you're next on the Charlie Manning Jeff."
" Yeah I. I'd like to -- comment regarding the journal called you called the go data on. Positioned to. Anxious they'll physicians election cannot. Medicare program. Well I you have a solution to -- actually gone into what's called on edge program. And sure. I'm sorry."

" See Tom that's that's the type of person who's supporting this bill thanks so much so called thanks for getting us that information. That's exactly the type of person who's supporting this bill. You know they think Obama's wonderful it of course this won't affect -- think you'll make everything better. And all of us who actually deal with the medical system and understand how works. We know that it's not gonna make things better that it's gonna make things cost more that the key here is gonna suffer. And that because there's gonna be fewer doctors to caring for more people. You're gonna be harder to find a doctor you need to stay with your doctor. We we know all these things because we understand how the system works and is Mike apple want old lays out this letter. It's really bad from Massachusetts. On a lot of levels. We have reduced funding it has things in the -- that's probably gonna hurt doctors it's gonna hurt hospitals here. That's what this bill does the Senate bill and and Mike -- 10 who's who's very liberal and you'd think would support President Obama in this is thinking of voting against it and it's important. To. Call him. Call it's John Tierney. Call Steve lynch. Call Niki Tsongas you know she says she's -- now but -- and she's gonna vote for but may be if we can flutter office with calls. And how bad it is for all of us here that may be shall stand up with -- us and vote against it."
" I -- region this email we we got this morning and we'd love to get your emails. See many at WR TO dot com. This email says that on on in the Boston Globe on March 12 Massachusetts will lose 500. Million dollars in extra Medicaid cash in the new health bill. All the mass delegates know this and they are still trying to sign on to the bill well Mike apple want us taking another look and it looks like Niki Tsongas is going for it. I think this is a topic that should be brought up to listeners especially since this money is needed to keep up our welfare state."
