" One 877469432218774694322. That's the toll free number of our car show what Simon following this central falls Rhode Island -- teacher -- situation very closely. But I like that just destined to permit the stories like Edward sort of read it closely -- what's on going on in the a prominent journal. But. You know. On the one hand you say I'm sure there's some teachers that don't deserve to be fired and you know this is this kind of a bad thing two while. To it to get rid of everybody. All at once but on the other hand. I'm gonna say you know this is not a bad thing I don't -- you know for a you don't get I I understand. People who were probably unison are being made an example of but I mean. This is good if it's a wake up call. For teachers. You know there's a that there is this. Feeling I think among in large segments of the public sector much -- teachers then and probably teachers west another. Aspirin -- other groups in the public sector. But there is this who this feeling this mentality. That you know you you or do. You meeting other people are immune. From the same. Problems. The same realities that face the rest of us out here in the dreaded private sector. You know like that that professor you know to do in the last hour -- mean that's that's typical -- Armenia and he he is the guy has no clue. You know what's going on out here. And it I gotta say that you if if these if these people wake up and and again I understand. You know it's not. The teachers -- fault purse -- That. People that students don't read anymore you know that there there are all I understand -- all these problems broken homes. The fact that the people watched the kids watch TV rather than reading. That. The you know that there are certain groups that feel that they're gonna way to get taken care of under any circumstances. I understand all that. But the fact is that in the old days I think teachers who used to be more more responsible. Then they they are now I. -- there's all this. It used to be that one will mind it was a teacher in Portland that the old at the north school NASCAR. She went to true we years Gorman normal I think they called -- quorum state core moral tool years. If she had the teacher everybody dollar salary and she could read and write. And now we have these teachers in the it in the public schools and in the private schools to grab the -- award the or accept that. Who have got. What does it matter. If you have a hard one protections. And you're not getting the job done. I'm sorry. But the reality is for whatever reason central falls Rhode -- they're not getting the job done what the hell -- they expect. They wanna keep getting paid for doing nothing. 18774694322. The move makes ward -- when one of the first states to meet a federal mandate over identify an overhaul poor performing schools. Several falls high school was singled out because of its very low test scores and graduation rate of 40%. Five other schools have been put on notice. US -- education secretary Arne Duncan weighed in saying he applauded the officials for showing courage. And doing the rights things for kids. I'm perplexed by that. I thought that the most important thing to Barack was the unions. Mary Ellen you're -- with how we. -- go ahead Mary --"

" Yeah out we have been asked that he pressure and the and we have this that they about why Johnny can't read but -- ratio of ten. Yeah it's all about what they do in Japan with the national curriculum. And with teachers who don't measure up. Can't must Derek. They are terminated and then say they've progressed to the battered schools it's the whole thing just like business. And they kids. By the -- parents think there's some great they have more -- enacted it graduate."

" Right I would say that you know within the kids graduating from high scorer guard college now days. Probably can't read at the same level and an eighth grade graduate to read -- 4050 years ago in the United States."

" Oh its bank credit -- then the achievement scores in its power accountable the teachers are. And it the national curriculum. Is set up for every single great -- So that they have they have achieved -- mastered he yelled at at the."

" Mary Ellen though you don't here in Massachusetts so you you know that they've they've had a terrible fight against him -- they say we don't wanna have to do what teach for the test. That's what exactly are you teaching fourth not for the tests you not teach or anything apparently."

" That's a cop out because those tests are getting better and better and they've measured -- which is what you want in its test. And they make it's that they keep the teachers accountable they keep the still -- and and they're doing it in every day on the New York has been derived from New York. It's doing this for a 110 years what he's doing New -- hit and run and when I got I read it. While I could go to any school in New York while -- because those at worked so. Valid and reliable it would you extrapolate. Really the results of those tests you know we basically what skilling."

" Don't -- in Mary Ellen in the old days CC NY or CUN -- what everyone McAuliffe. I mean they used to produce Nobel prize winners in science it's you know now it's become like C a remedial high school. "

" Exactly and you know the NEA but every step of the way went all -- wanted to get. BM yes that's true and he was dead right right and and that."

" And Deborah Edberg Deval Patrick has been talking about the need to you know he's been holding the teachers' unions can't say all we you're right we're just. It's just putting too much pressure on every one what you don't want the life is about pressure isn't it Mary Ellen."

" They hate -- have pressure. Blink and be accountable and every -- I'm thinking of writing. And every bit of grammar that I -- today I knew that it highlights -- eighth grade the region in New York State."

" I I know I know I would -- private school here in Massachusetts in this the same thing I mean I I can't believe the other kids I see you know including my own but other kids whose work I say. They they he they they can't make a subject debris with a -- I mean it's right basic stuff you know."

" Yes subject and verb agreement not a parallel -- the -- played a lot of buyers. That it's structured right that's right I'm better than you name it. And it is that why it's best science and language -- might be -- yeah and -- we need -- be taught earlier in earlier. Set."

" I -- thanks to the other dog with you why would you marry Allen I mean you know. I know a lot of people go into teaching because they they want to help out kids and you know they've they've they've like the -- about working with young people but you know what there is huge number of teachers who go win because they think it's a job where. They have security where they gonna get three months off a year where the modular really have to bus company and you know what I mean if this if this scares those teachers. I don't have a problem with that I'm not I'm not awarded to dump on all teachers but this is that this is probably not a bad thing. Mike you're next with Howie -- go ahead Mike."

" Well my premise that it took -- students in the school system and ship them to the best performing school system in the state. And took her students from the best performing school system in this state and shipped them -- looked poorly performing school district -- the results would change. All children well how is not a solution though it. -- local involvement and student academic. Acumen and endured I have alerted. It's just good result would be the -- reboot -- the excellent school system allegedly -- the machine and I think student at that. Our school system -- doubt has now."

" I think at some point though you have to it's just kind of get people's attention whether it's the the teachers unions or the elected officials were the parents of the students. In this is this is one of those cases where you just have to get get their attention I -- how how what else you gonna do when you have this wretched school. In the central falls Rhode Island what are you what are you wanna do what's your solution."

" That you Rhode Island slips below without actually out there -- just we'll -- ability and geopolitical -- I'm sure grade level you stay back and and surely that's that fifty year old gonna get second assure -- great."

" I. I'm with you Mike but you know again you see you're you're you're from Massachusetts or your in the area anyway. And you've seen the kind of Bob belly aching that's gone on with the MCAS correct."

" Right. Okay hold on we'll get Mike back up their. Obama official apply it applauds Rhode Island teacher -- times so I'm shocked to learn this but that the us secretary of education is in favor of this go ahead Mike I'm sorry."

" It's just didn't it every got -- parents. Okay that that is Shuler and -- is Larry it's just doesn't serve the purpose. -- Come off a vote and every Third World all look -- risk. And become the best student. In two -- three months from knowing wished they actually. Worksheet cabinet deliberately literally is involved and let it there international on the part of the children and their parents. That old people. The opposite stroke when that there isn't an investment. I repeatedly nothing at all that."

" But again it's it's a way of giving -- people's attention is it not I mean at some point some of the sometimes examples have to be made and it's not fair but Daiei you know yeah you."

" You some. Of the voluble aren't due out I'm the threat of firing the pitchers. Well let you know get performance but once you fight them and they take this support in its overture by your bullet."

" let alone anymore."

" Well I say I mean Woolsey if they prevail I'm not you know I'm not sure you know Friday. I don't I don't know why I don't know the LA ins and outs of it but I'm just saying that it that I I would think that the majority of people in central falls and probably the majority in Rhode Island. Think this is not a bad idea there and you have. I'm sure the Republican governor doesn't think it's a bad I deer and apparently the -- democratic president doesn't think it's a bad idea right sort seems like you have some kind of again I don't know. How war. How long their commitment is going to be to this but it it seems like there is there is some. Involvement right now in in. In getting the attention of people that to do something I mean you can't you can't just keep spending more and more money. I mean again more -- Miami was teacher she went two years Wright to join the ice port a high school you went to 2.2 years. Everybody came out of the third grade at the more school Portland Maine. They know how to read. I mean not -- every. Now everybody is that you know she didn't get any Social Security my mother paid her Social Security for taking care of us I mean you'll put in -- wages and Social Security associates a money. Now you're paying you have all this money is being spent. It in everybody's got these advanced degrees they're getting more money for getting the advanced degrees. And and you basically turning I would say that that'd be the majority. Of Bob people graduating high school are semi literate -- basked would you disagree with that."

" I would trade and it took control in the last 16 years. I am who are trying where we are those in appreciating that."

" And the Lebanese. I'm the pictures just in Milton escape -- it's an easier -- our ability to -- I had in the out of home haven't added that there DJ certificates."

" Can't wait to have just been fired from the tradition they have now. If -- such horrible pages why didn't they take a weighted certification."

" Well I don't know the answer that question all I know is that I'm I'm glad that something is being done and again you may be right that they're being scapegoated but the reality is. People are scapegoated all the time in this society and you know -- white teacher should be exempt from. Having the same kind of -- for performance evaluations that the rest of us -- thanks to a call Mike Lisa Lisa you're next with how we cargo ahead Lisa."

" Hi. I I'm just sick and tired of listening to the people belly -- sort of public expect there about what's not fair. My my husband is. -- No severance and no two weeks notice. He went into work Monday it was supposed did. Get a letter on private credit report but on Monday he would historical -- here it they and a number X. Sorry we get elected governors -- not pork. Well that's that no preference footnote two we noticed no nothing. An instant -- day in what they keep it -- H protected bracket at the -- for. -- what's good about that we have no kid in college. We have a mortgage to pay it. That's not --"

" But I know why I don't. Go public public sector has to while played by the same rules as everybody else you know they used to say. Well we're gonna give the public sector these nice pension benefits because they don't make as much -- people in the private sector. Now the reality is they make 40% more of the average person the private sector and I and I. -- get the pension behind it and get the health benefits behind it that it is an and you know why I just. And and again I I understand I mean -- I eat my kids go to public schools I understand that a lot of the public school teachers are pretty good. And they work hard and they. But the reality here is the job is not getting done you know -- And I just like you are what I -- foreign newspapers have a problem is our problem that the Internet came along. No but we're paying the price. AA I worked for and AM radio station why wanna work on a on the AM band of course not I'd like the real the FM band I look I -- the deal -- the corrupt judicial system that says I have to stay where I am. I mean this is -- this is reality right."

" Yeah they did not living in reality not like the red --"

" I know -- I'm I'm sorry you you know these -- you don't like okay -- gonna say well you know we'd have to deal with large immigrant population we have to deal with a large welfare population we have -- with a large non English speaking population with -- deal with a large population that comes from broken homes. I'm sorry about that right I have to deal with a large population and by the newspaper anymore when they get on the --"

" Exactly I would -- I issue that we have been killed a lot of other issues that they don't have skillet so we'll in they have out that it took it out. The help -- along I mean it. I don't needing only to be the downfall of this country they will be."

" they are -- facial Cawley sorry as you know I didn't know this go the couple weeks ago but you know one of the things should be Kennedys have never been properly blamed for is that. JFK. Signed a an executive order in 82. Is president saying that the federal workforce could unionized and you know you talk about dubbed that they have gigs and you know the immigration reform act of 84. Which Teddy and Bobby were involved in. And Vietnam and overthrowing the DMZ and all that but I mean that's right up there with a terrible. Terrible. Turn in American life was letting the public sector unions unionized I mean it's just. They you know Calvin Coolidge had the right idea you know you don't. If you're on the public sector are you would you have certain rights you'll have to either you're not involved in the the same hurly burly of the economy that the rest of us are involved then. -- In return fur having bad. That's security you have to give up some open these people don't give up the neat thing they give more money they get more security they get a better pension. Then I what's the what is the downside to being in the public sector. 18774694322. -- say what is the upside to being in the dreaded private sector of how -- car. 18774694322. There's accountability in the dreaded private sector. -- the moon -- don't want to hear that but the reality is. Their wrists accountability more alas there's certainly a lot more accountability than in the public sector. And you know the reality is if something isn't working. Big premiums for its. You know -- they've made good ice cream that they have a good day it's a good shops. Everybody got fired in the end does it just wasn't working out now -- Everybody's been fired at central falls high school I'm sorry I don't have a big problem with that lol you're next with how we cargo I have low."

" I know that they're sort of call it what paraphrase one -- raiders starter -- Staley Dukakis. A bit struck from best. -- static thing going. The parent of about. They'll they'll -- about the future but also the administrator. What disconnect is that the Detroit -- violent. Why it was so -- himself also held accountable by the border region."

" Well I think they did they think they fired the the superintendent as well required three is assistant superintendent so -- they have Bob they have done something and anyway. Arabs going to be an interesting one to watch how it plays out somehow we car."

Arizona Loses the First Round

Arizona's tough new immigration law was just hours away from taking effect when a federal judge issued an injunction today blocking key portions of the law from being enforced. Among the provisions U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton put on hold are the "reasonable suspicion" section that would allow police to arrest and detain suspected illegal immigrants without a warrant and a provision making it illegal for undocumented day laborers to solicit or perform work. Bolton also stayed part of the Arizona law requiring immigrants to carry federal immigration documents. DO you think illegals should be required to carry identification?
