He certainly wasn't doing what he was supposed to be doing mayor Michael Bloomberg says set hours before the suspension was announced. The mayor said the lifeguard would have been fired on the spot if had been working for less than a year. But would have to go through the hearing process if he'd been on the payroll for more than that. Lifeguards are not permitted to wear headphones on duty. Said the spokesman for the city beaches lifeguards are supposed to give their complete ma and divided attention to the job at hand. The uncle for the nineteen year old victim from the Bronx said how -- they supposed to save lives if they can't hear anything he supposed to be paying attention to his surroundings this is so wrong.
