" He'd be a little bit later on -- max Robbins from the paley center on no ally you watch entourage last night maybe you're hooked on Hong not. And whatever else is on your money in terms of the new TV season and -- interesting stuff going on in the world of television. But in the meantime we're delighted to have Dick Morris joining us first evolved you know Dick Morris he's a frequent guest here on how -- car show former Clinton advisor well known author and political commentator. And here is the name of his brand new -- ready -- I should catch my breath for second and you and oxygen tank -- out. Dick Morris is new book is called. Catastrophe how Obama congress and the special interests are transforming a slumping to a crash -- to socialism and a disaster into a catastrophe and how you can fight back. I'm afraid we're out of time to take thanks so much for joining us. Hi how are you okay."
" interviewed some fox five the New York's."
" Yes it was always a pleasure to have you very you're a -- and you're."
" For a couple of days -- corned beef -- as the Carnegie deli because you are photographed. Adorns their front stuff stay the --"
" You know it's so funny I went and did a story there and they say they're gonna put a picture of me up beneath notice that actually I think I'm next to Robert Kraft as all New England Patriots fans will love to know I am right next to Bob Kraft. Will win they put it up I said look I want some prime real estate I would ocean front property right by the door -- level right near the cash register so apparently bell worked and I still have my position there they're. -- if nowhere else in need to show business approval matrix I'm still on the wall the Carnegie -- All right -- so I gave a lengthy title of your book your books are always best sellers even folks who disagree with -- agree that you are smart and interesting and you make good points. And I'm a catastrophe. Is just a little bit hyperbole here Dick I mean -- really headed to hell in a hand basket."
" The exact right words. We -- that the -- the catastrophe makes is that. The what Obama has started to take a disaster that he inherited from bush in the economy and he's trying to get into a catastrophe. On his own. I you know I used to work for Bill Clinton and his approach to solving the economic problems was to cut the deficit in fact eliminate the deficit. Cutting interest rates."
" And use the lower interest rates to bring the economy back."
" Instead what Obama has done as he took a deficit of 489. Billion spent that I have to over two trading him. Has doubled long term interest rates since he took offense and -- the magnitude of borrowing -- he's crushing economy so you want to add to that his. Bill for health care which were led to the deficit and also add to -- the expert. So we that we pretty much left the bush recession and now we're in the recession caused by Obama's policy."
" The real recessions so was Bill Clinton a downright conservative compared to Barack Obama."
" Yet he was -- he believed didn't free market economics to solve the problem many believe that you eliminate the deficit and you lower interest rates. He specifically felt. That fiscal stimulus was only a limited impact. Could only work for a short period of time if at all. And that because only certain people get benefits when the government spends money. The people would get the money in May be -- big grocery store and the but when you lower interest rates to everybody who wants to buy a house sure car or anything. Or who wants to expand their business -- Creating new firm all of them have benefited. Because the interest rates and lower. And he understood that what you needed to do was to lower rates. And what Obama has done is by increasing federal borrowing. There's too much borrowing going on so that's driving rates up which is causing in this procession to linger."
" I have a challenge for all potential chump line callers here today. There's definitely the raw ingredients for a joke it's a sentence containing the words Bill Clinton and stimulus package. So come up with the most refined carefully worded it should beautifully presented joke go later Alice -- the -- line and you win a free gift of some kind I'll think of something to get out to people. Are the number to call is 877 how we -- it's 8774694322. If you have a question or comment for Dick Morris if you agree with everything he says or if you think he is. The devil -- which of course your -- are actually quite a delightful gentleman and a wonderful person to meet and to know -- some folks might -- you are sitting on the sidelines rubbing your hands together gleefully wanting President Obama and therefore America to have as many problems as possible also that -- you could be proven right and -- you can sell more stuff. Well let's say you."
" No it's I I I think I've been warning from the time he took -- that his program would be flawed. That the stimulus package would would actually create more harm than good it'll do. And then the most important thing about speaking right now if he's trying to jam through literally in two weeks. A program that will totally change in my judgment totally -- form the health care system we have in this country and that is truly a catastrophe. There's a very simple question he's never after which -- cover fifteen million more Americans."
" Without creating what doctor. And the answer that there is no incident that's the only way you can do it."
" Is by either raising the price which is not gonna do or rationing care which he is gonna get."
" And when you ration medical care what that means -- deny it to the elderly."
" who couldn't get that hip replacement -- thirty year old well personal -- an eighty year old person the thirty year old."
" How can that bypass surgery and -- look at knee replacement. A -- like everything else is rations with the -- to call it that are not in --"
" Well no that won't go is the haves and have not because you can expand the supply. Before you expand the demand."
" Of course we need to cover the fifty million uninsured Americans. I'm not counting illegals but we need to cover the other."
" But we should do that -- instead -- from the creation of more doctors. Two more medical schools subsidies some situations. Pay back on student loans ranging not lowering the first time out time you create a 100000 new doctored them. Expand coverage with a fifteen million new patients."
" So -- into -- already yet is."
" But I would rather have the current system of rationing in which the people what not getting adequate medical care although they do get emergency room. Are by definition not -- eligible for Medicaid not old -- not eligible for Medicare. Not under 21 because they're not eligible for children's health insurance."
" And have those people many of whom are legal and illegal immigrants."
" Not be covered if supposed to elderly not be covered -- like -- it's too short for immediate -- can get cold here connective. And what we need to do is grow the blanket before we expand the coverage."
" But growing the blanket isn't that also centrally planned economy isn't that essentially nineteen -- With what we would otherwise called true free market capitalism."
" We have a mattress student loan program with -- grants we have. Massive federal scholarship shell game give we forgive student loans when people are engaged didn't. Specific acts of service and particularly underserved communities."
" That's -- extensive precedent and he's got a right to use that to expand the number of doctors and then expand health care."
" So you are you against all those subsidies and then I guess you could call them shell game maneuvers they are just."
" I think that terrific and I think we need to expand it to creating doctors and creating --"
" They've had this many medical schools now -- law schools they used graduate equal numbers now there are twice as many new lawyers continued doctor."
" And what we need to do is to expand the supply. Not give everyone the illusion that they getting there when in fact all they getting an access to a waiting list."
" All right the number is 1877. How weak car. Give us a call -- on the air with Dick Morris right now just like Jerry -- where you calling from."
" God can do little lady gentleman mister -- there's a lot of pleasure to us do you are fascinating and and stimulate a in my pro -- is some notable talents such as well and you you make it go for. Tired thinking -- appreciate that but I have to come ordered Castro's statement that that would metabolic. Rational or rationalizing. -- you know it's rationalized its ration to. How old body trying market that that can't be good enough people admit that -- think. And a certain distance and I hate it or not I committed bridge between lack of access. To health care as a result of competition. Because one -- Another another candidate and the administrative decision by some Jamal. But kinda doubt whether it's a body terrorism and -- age restriction -- our. And -- expenditure powers just first -- know how they are two totally different things why did not rationing just cannot be. Just as a result of competition. Is not. Rationing of how to get it."
" Frame says that he felt good health care is -- now based on price. It's really not it's rationed based on employment status and citizenship more than anything else. I illegal immigrants can't get it. And does those who above a certain level of income more below. 65 had the guy who am I don't have an employer who covers -- left out. My point is that if you go to rationing which you will have to do and lets you expand the supply of doctors. You have got to eliminate Medicare as we know it. The concept the senior citizens will have access to health care whenever they need it however much they need will no longer be the case. And there rationing will full enormously on the elderly. 50% of our Medicare dollar is spent the last twelve months of a patient's life. And that is going to be when they can take game at that my dad is 99 and doing fine but when it was 95 he had have a colon removed. They never would have approved that I 95 year old invested his living for four more years even that was mentally alert been fantastic guy no way. And the bill also makes no distinction between those -- get legally and illegally. Any employer have to cover every employee. Whether he'd consider them legal or not. Or pay the equivalent confined to. So what -- basically doing is taking a large population that is underserved now. Because they are not here illegally. Or because they just simply fall through the crack. And giving them coverage and denying it -- senior citizens. Which is really what this bill is all about."
" All right Gerri thanks very much for your call the number is 800 how we call."
" by the way -- stressed that under the Obama plan you will not be able to pay the medical care."
" If how we need to hip replacement and Obama judges he's too old for. Or -- right wing or two whenever. Whatever ground they use they can do whatever they want."
" It's completely -- and we are can't have a hip replacement he can't write a check to pay for."
" He can't go to a private doctor ordered the equivalent of a bribe. -- he go to a private Doctor Who now goes off line up."
" Just like he can't -- that Canada now."
" That's why they have to come to the United States."
" And paper that -- here because they can't pay for their care in Canada. It is illegal to do that and in the United States it would be illegal to obtain health care outside of the system."
" Which means health -- that the federal health board which is establishing. Refuses --"
" Interesting point how we car for 69. 4322. Is the number 8774694322. Charlie is on the line now with Dick Morris either Charlie what's on your mind."
" A terrible time but I don't get a telephone I Dick Dick Nixon from some good point but he also missed it viewpoint it. One point you have to realize is that. I currently have the data Wal-Mart if you favor of the Obama plan. -- reason why Wal-Mart another company. Like Wal-Mart aren't stable I know I work for coming by the lake who -- well million dollars a year for health insurance employee. That's right twelve million dollars. How big is your health care but that's -- these -- they have a lot better employees that are currently. On their plate there. But then they had to become self insured because. They can no longer afford the premium that the L."
" Insurance company -- charging -- but it could almost immediately took that Obama is if says he can reduce the cost of health insurance. And I don't know he will or not but he certainly is and the truck."
" But where he's explaining which is deceiving the American people is that he's not doing that through."
" Computerized record keeping and all that nonsense I think congressional budget got centrifuges to score that is having any savings at all. We going to do it if they know. And you'll save health insurance costs by telling Howie -- he can't get hip replacement."
" In Canada there's an eight week wait for radiation for cancer treatments. Eight weeks to have to hope the cancer -- and death in that case is a pretty good rationing mechanism. There's -- cancer death rate in Canada that's 16% higher than in the United States."
" So the way you can directly make healthcare more patient despite saying --"
" By denying this scared of this person and that scared of that first."
" That is not education I think the government should make its manifesto -- wanna live under or have my parents slip under."
" I will point out some of the waiting it takes place even under our current. Obviously flawed system that we have now I have great benefits through mine -- lawyer and I waited five months is for is simple mammogram despite a strong family history of breast cancer just because of all that. Malpractice lawsuits and nobody want to be radiologists anymore so there's definitely we eating no matter what on assisting you come --"
" I need to see that's going to be vastly worsen. As everybody becomes eligible for it and the number of radiologist decline is because they're cutting back on the amount of money that they gonna make. And get fuel radiologists."
" And less equipment which are going to have that's part of the cost savings he going to have a longer and longer waiting lists."
" In Canada there's now an average eight month wait for colonoscopy. And as a result the colon cancer incidence in Canada per capita. It's 25%. Higher than in the United States even though they have half as many poor people proportionately. And because the top two medications. That are prescribes for colon cancer are both Ben didn't candidate because of their cost we use them in the US. You have. -- 41%. Of Canadians should get it dying of colon cancer and only 32%. Of Americans to get it done but these are all the facts and -- catastrophe and I just. Urged people to get it and share it with your friends to -- your relatives shouldn't your neighbors. And they -- the United States senate with letters -- call -- emails telling them not to screw up bad health care system in the next few weeks."
" If folks wanna find out more about your book catastrophe there's a link to it on the website how we card dot com deep can you stay with us through the break is I want."
" I -- dead -- have another show with 330. Well I would."
" Can I quickly put Jim on the air then with CBS a question or paid or Jimmy Ronnie or Dick Morris."
" Hi Jim I I -- talking you -- some position I have. One little apple what you said about. The people who are currently uninsured now. You can -- what doctors to take care -- that getting medical care. Yeah the -- wouldn't take care of the problem is. That cost to the that is get ship or anyone else yep I didn't -- agree I don't totally review though about rationing. What's gonna happen is that they'd get a single Payer system available are our reimbursement you're right people I can go to medical school. And that will still be in the -- you will not be able to get the C -- reflect."
" Thank you doctor and you know when it's absolutely true."
" That these that the uninsured get medical care from emergency rooms nobody is turned away from the emergency room."
" But they will be a vastly increasing utilization. For other kinds of non emergency treatment. And that is what's going to cause this scarcity but I think it's going to just destroyed health care particularly for the elderly."
" An emergency room care is the least efficient way to say healthy because you're not there until something music -- where is it might have been prevented all along if -- had better care."
" And let's also remember that of the fifty million people that are uninsured. About twelve million are here illegally and I'm -- if you don't like the health system go back nobody -- to -- and you're not here legally. There's another back ten to twelve million that are eligible for Medicaid but don't apply. And another three or four million that are children under eighteen who are eligible for the child health insurance program but don't apply to their parents haven't signed them up. They have about 25 million that are real Americans here legally as immigrants or citizens who are not getting medical care but by definition. None of them is four and none of them resolve and none of them children."
" Dick Morris thank you so much for being with those on your -- do next that you're not gonna get any better callers know better questions -- and -- got from the listeners in New England so there right. The book called catastrophe Dick Morris thanks very much for speaking with us today -- take a short break and be back with a much much more I'm Jodi Applegate you're listening to the."
