" You know what's great about this week -- that we really tying into an connecting with so many people who know what the -- going on we talked to Mike Kennedy Dennehy. Probably a week or ten days ago he's -- New Hampshire he is two I'm going to describe -- he's a modest guy. I'll be a little bit oh ultimately commercial on his behalf he is absolutely it has been for many many years. John McCain's right his hot his soul his brain his. Conscience his right now about -- in all the success that McCain has enjoyed a New Hampshire is attributable to this guy who joins us again Iran for parents forum. The one the only Mike Dennehy had Mike ally --"
" Good thank you lottery pick up like Jack. The -- talk about."
" I love a -- would have said to you about good morning hi Wendy -- the United down here in the Boston studio the -- this convention as I'm sure you have. And as I describe for our audience you are on the ground up there in New Hampshire you've got a dog fight of -- up the of Iraq and in -- candidate John McCain. Another dog fight US senate race and you watch in his DNC's thing. Probably. Hit it probably square to the TV and such as watcher not out of the -- review my -- of Iraq what have you seen and heard over these past couple of days."
" Well I think and everyone still on the lot today from Hillary. -- you know I think -- out what are the chances of that Hillary in -- bottle without for a cocktail afterward."
" Phenomenal. You noticed you noticed the body language that our work -- that is them."
" I'm trying to surprise that. Someone from the Obama campaign -- just total remembers spot that particular obviously going to stay focused on."
" Sure sure I I'll accept I was surprised by that I struggled myself a note Mike as well. At the end of the all the speeches last night and -- you know they went late of course but thought to myself hmm you know we hear a lot that Barack Obama is a very smart guys very intelligent. If he is -- if he has -- an -- Ellis but I have reason to believe that they both. I suspect that they've made calls instantly -- as quickly as possible. To bill and Hillary thanking them profusely even if they did not believe it. Thanking them and out looking forward to working with them find a way to bury the hatchet to build the bridges if it's possible."
" Absolutely no doubt about it and and yet are -- export spoke volumes collapse -- all around. And got the you know I think. Humor delivered a great speech. I watched -- a great job I personally. Course -- I didn't see the overwhelming passion for Obama. But she did her job. You know -- I think they're going to continue to have difficulty especially as a every day someone it'll. Of large importance is not going to be attending Obama's speech yesterday was Terry McAuliffe sporting its President Clinton I'm not going to be there. Attack so they have to contend these issues of nature. Hillary supporters major Democrats not going to be a halt to sit sit listened to Obama's. Acceptance speech. So and I think it's going to continue to be out in front and regardless of Hillary's speech."
" Well you know it's made it the sporting events of the -- more more interesting for some of us who are literally watching the tension even more so than listening to the content of the speeches. And you know I kind of appreciated Michelle. More when she was sassy and and a little bit nasty you know people like army and she's so river -- country. I am so turned off the cheese steak suite now. As just I think I thought she was so cute I loved her like she just came. She -- this adorable here -- kind of like Betty Crocker I -- so resent the fact that she thinks she can. Make us think she's sweet when when indeed I liked her when she was tough for price and try to -- because I thought that was how she really was. This fake -- I love my children like a nice hair. I kinda like it that she's look at Nancy is Hillary. Of course they need each other -- anger. And so I'm not I'm not opposed to watching more of them I think. As I said to me it doesn't show I prefer honest arrogance to false humility I actually preferred and honest tents convention than a --"
" If you like it when -- just sit here from tenth attendants say without a doubt the best speaker of the house of Massachusetts. Like. -- I -- a -- you when you insult me and beat me answers are -- hey Mike Dennehy quick question you talked about how they you know they have to deal with these new episodes in a Terry McAuliffe now Bill Clinton won't be the and so on and so forth that tension that's supposedly Hillary had all the com. Last night. Don't you guys run the risk of being the complete. Snooze fest now here in Minneapolis Saint Paul that what the hell is not even a vaccine story -- no drama or it's all choreographed -- beginning to wind. I mean even even I will have trouble staying away."
" But yet there's no doubt that there's a chance for the dubious news that the -- these things are just. I think a lot of -- people and certainly voters are calmer in the polls in November. It probably 90% of them will be 85 -- and -- listing any racial what's more. As an elegant choreographed and every level both conventions. There's probably going to be more excitement of the Democrat because of the controversy. I have no problems with a -- newscast and and and John McCain and others getting up they're talking about their vision for the country. Because the real campaign start after the conventions and."
" Yeah hate VP choice give us your sense of the field as it exists now. And our way and we might anticipate. A decision and an announcement from John McCain."
" I think we anticipate. Decision on Friday. -- you've -- probably haven't change governor temple on Minnesota's. Very strong candidate governor Mitt Romney of course everyone knows well. -- asked senator Joe Lieberman it is kind of dark horse candidate I'd say. -- very good friend of John McCain and strong conservative Democrat. And that some other governors that are being considered too so."
" My favourite -- today everybody knows the answer already writes -- we start looking to see whether helicopters start flying over Belmont Massachusetts. -- action that's they'll be at his house I don't know where we have Friday but. You know that's how everybody figured out it was Joe Biden the -- activity the night before where shall we be looking for activity just give us a hand on."
" Outlook you know honest to god I don't believe John McCain's gonna make. Final decision until Thursday night anyway."
" That's -- that's one way to keep it under that's one way to keep -- under wraps fish you'll."
" It really is thin and especially blown out of art thing unfold that he's going to continue to keep there's. Cards close to the -- there."
" Let me ask two questions related to that Tom ridge. Do you think he's still in play. For whatever reasons -- the kind of dropped to a second tier or third -- consideration."
" I certainly think he remains consideration because again. Is closest to John Mitchell and and -- that is overwhelming. Great -- thirty years as a governor and then only strategy. -- job. You know John McCain has said he really to his credit -- pretty close and I think there are partners -- the folks about matching but doesn't mean that we're -- and."
" Let's let's say Mike let's say McCain cause you in ten minutes and says a minute I'm going to pick whoever you tell me who who what would you say."
" I'm gonna get right back from the Paula Johnson currently working --"
" Hot hot hot hot and when you ask us for our advice what -- CAD when he hit it maybe we you know Wendy's question anticipates my very very nicely. All the candidates you mentioned Tom -- temple anti may be Lieberman may be Mitt Romney. Is it not true that Romney would be more helpful to you Mike Dennehy in the battleground. Of New Hampshire."
" You know quite honestly. I don't think that -- will do better than John McCain himself in new capture any. I would say Romney's. Bigger importance would be -- stated mission -- yeah. So I think John McCain going to win New Hampshire because of his there's. That great history here."
" You have Romney might be actually double asset because they had maybe even a triple asset New Hampshire of assistance I think. Michigan clearly of assistance and I think in some of those western mountain states that the dams are trying to pick out because of the Mormon influence the more obvious. They're trying to grab the -- are trying to -- Colorado and that's."
" And addressed much any differently ramps up the handsome factor now look at another that outsourcing the demos got cute -- really cute. And McCain he's okay he's okay you know priority in my. I think he's so cute -- shot and drinks in Ohio Mike she's been drinking are I think providing its very cute in the -- smiles to gather man that's glimmer classes of forgiveness factor when she's on the through drinking and let you know like you know I -- I don't to politics I think it's so fun watching the commercials. The anti Obama commercials where. His buddies are saying he's not ready I just -- so I wonder if you're gonna plan a commercial or if you. You know if you -- anything to say about this is anybody planning commercially this is like. -- run on the people are now supporting him like Hillary. He's not ready to be president Obama is just not ready Joe Biden Obama is just not ready to be present don't be such a great commercial all Obama's friends saying he's not ready."
" Well I think you'll continue to see those kinds of commercials throughout the next few weeks. As all the democratic leaders are joining together to support Obama after being. Really the most vocal opponents and critics of ten during the primary."
" Enter it into readiness which is really changed its most serious strength as a matter of fact let's Michael we're gonna play the 3 AM ma I call at the 3 AM McCain ad for you. And Allison -- and then I'd like to get your response to it. --"
" It's three yeah. Yeah seriously. Uncertainty. Dangerous aggression."
" I know Senator McCain has a lifetime of experience that he will bring to the White House and Senator Obama has a speech he gave in 2002."
" Hillary's right. John McCain for president."
" What an ad and you know we would that the that what we just played doesn't do justice because the film footage on that. Tanks rolling through the streets -- missiles being fired. War -- war shortage militant masked masked militants marching with machine guns and -- Every one of the images is graphic and so sort and intent all and it's a reminder of how crazy the world as of last point Mike and -- take it to your response to the -- And he an an attempt to PS today on a US diplomat in that Pakistan's so welcome to the big leagues Iraq. You don't you don't get a lot of time to think through. You know this is more than the Chicago City Council the other president the United States."
" That's the most and that's the most important thing right -- and certainly what I heard those comments about Hillary Clinton's smile. During the primary and I expect many others like yourself. It was the most amazing remarks by Hillary Clinton and I. I think the biggest. -- that she weighed in criticism and throughout the entire campaign. You know justification put Alberta there that. You don't have experience. But you don't want speak."
" Hey Mike. Mike let me ask you -- Pentagon has anybody said publicly to Hillary since that statement was made I'm sort of come up now but. Has anyone said why did you say that a do you regret regret saying it or you know that was strange thing to say anticipating of course McCain's likely success. And the problems for the party she's such a party loyalist why did she do."
" I'll I think we all probably know our hearts what she did it because she's so badly wanted to become pressure."
" I don't know I understood -- was -- before she's upon analyst and that but still that was a very very dangerous statement to make and does as anyone's said to her. Do you regret it why."
" You know it LC extension is set to -- in check so far away from the media. That I don't think even have the opportunity to ask that question -- like well we'll have the opportunity still haven't. The -- that old Obama's behalf at all I'd bet I do believe I was watching your show earlier in every day in and I'd pupil we need. Of course some -- I do believe that she does not want Obama to -- you got to come back and run for president for."
" Yeah that seems clear a lot of people she'll have a he promised an enormous reservoir of sympathy and the a full support given that Iraq comes up short. Paid the polls show at least another Gallup poll shows. Not just a tightening but within the past day at two may be for the first time in in a long time may be the first time an altered across this campaign. McCain actually had by a point 2 I think this is daily Gallup poll. By a point 2. Over Barack Obama what you take on the general movement to the polls out there might --"
" It's a honestly I am I in. Star because we we are model is it came after the 1992 election where the economy was the number one issue. Where actual put in there. And and Bill Clinton came out of the Democratic National Convention would -- point and that's what we also expect. Capital epic and expect the call law and to have no in fact a slight movement and our direction phenomenal. I can't explain I don't quite understand it. The Bible thing didn't take with people like people like them what they expected a different chores expected sort of real change not so -- in the Senate and Nixon. I'm not sure what a bit but. Is it it's not -- in the direction that we fully expect at all."
" Well ahead of bush -- going to push back a little bit on this and I wanted to push me Wendy around in whatever audience that that would just you know -- snooze and under the influence to Dennehy yet but. You know the Borough of people say. That all the polls I'm missing what is really going on and we're all aware of the technological revolution I get you when I it. Emailed text mailed to all sorts of stuff with each other instantaneously and that he younger generation. Of voters. They're excited. The -- inspired. The F passionate and yet did not showing up when Gallup does you know hey let's go out -- thousand likely vote is because these folks opt for the most but. Relatively new to the process he says of the of the -- people say that changes the whole dynamic whole equation. -- is talking about old math we have a new method new math wins."
" Well you know what. I think that remain peaceful I don't discount what they're saying but it will be a new revolution that happens. It's never happened before and obviously everyone in the political process wants young people to get more involved John McCain's been pushing its peak and an office. And ran on are very heavily on getting people involved in the process in 2000 and then again this year."
" But bright lights I mean you get it would -- at mica what about Barack lights it up judge John McCain for all his efforts he still comes across I had come across the same way that say has some. -- you know all fall he white guy in and they can't they can't even distinguish us because we all look the same. Eight -- and Barack man he lights it up what I'll column kids because everywhere after the -- be hit by -- a kid but for bracket."
" To the question I think the biggest question that it needs to be after -- volatile election. -- how many people look at out register the vote how many of these people will leave their colleges to go vote. And what they get back into the swing in the park. Now that's stopped. That's why there's never no never been able to rely on young voters to no doubt that Obama. Does has electrified. Everyone not just young people what he is -- celebrity in the country so what are you can get people to register to vote and then turn up on Election Day. That's the that's so that the the question."
" You know my my my son and all of his friends there are new voters and they're excited about Obama. I'm not sure who my nineteen year old will vote for but I know is going to go to brokers or us attorney decriminalize marijuana and all of his friends are gonna go vote for that and so it simultaneously I think. They'll be at the lever for Obama and that could be. To be a ploy to put the marijuana question right next to Obama's name -- and I got our kids leave college to go vote. Mike we have a breaking new story want to tell you about and get your reaction this is fascinating. It just broke on CNN. And very interesting timing I have to say. CNN is reporting that General Petraeus. Has announced that on our province in Iraq. Will be handed off to Iraqi control Monday -- Monday the day York convention begins interesting timing what's your thought."
" Well certain just and -- I think that General Petraeus has done a phenomenal job and has short that things are going well this is just another indication that the war. In the search in the new strategies working. I think that'll have a little bit of excitement actually that's exactly needed a dark investment that it's a big step."
" You don't sound that support is by when I just read are you surprised."
" I'm surprised that it's happening as early but to. But I'm not surprised because there's this search has been working and we shall six. I certainly think that it will at a different. Elements of the capital now."
" So it it sounds like it'll also be a focus of conversation during the conventions with so what we said was gonna guess nosair. Today I mean I think it's maybe not because again it probably is an affirmation or strengthening of -- be -- different arguments that McCain races on his own behalf. Might win you. Oh when the McCain people to Heston had far its effectiveness. For example the 3 AMA and we just played around listening audience I think I think that has an effect on. You know are out Middle Ages of is is an elastic term but on middle -- folks who you know kind of take more seriously about these things and don't go into the youths won't. How these how it would need to focus group on an -- how do you. React to these ads."
" Well you know. -- are kind of been to new movement and not. They're not terror against typical in the way we could expect a response. They're trying to -- over the and that kind of just. Their basic responses okay that's interest but it doesn't completely moved. And again. Yes we're traditionalists. Because. The older voters from forty got up will be the majority of voters. That's continued to be what what we focus on when we're casting. But. So whether that's fair younger voters are not. Always because they're new because the revolution and younger voters potential hopefully get involved. We get to totally figure out what ought to --"
" Well what's -- days in my kids think of McCain has just the old geezer guy that's running. And it no matter what and I just about me in value to -- a -- running from police down slightly different run on -- armed. In all seriousness I think my kids don't identify at all with McCain and that's why they just pick Obama they have no idea what he really stands -- why it matters to them or might -- in the future. I don't know how you create an -- Where you bonds at such an old guy with a young generation because if you until it overtly. It -- it's just look at comes across contrived and an I don't know how you do that I'm interested to see how the numbers with the use. As -- how do you get that vote."
" It's difficult quote in an -- a primary which it -- younger voter crowd the court that's Republican primary but. -- now. You know Clinton -- we have got. Feedback from younger voters and for parents of younger voters. They consistently said that. One thing that is totally lacking in this country are heroes we don't don't know if you're welcome that's the."
" I think I think it's a fabulous -- imminent I think you give any generation of Americans something to look for and to work for that's lodge of the themselves -- I think they respond to it I really -- Dennehy had been so good with the attack had thank you enough. I think we have John Sununu one. Tomorrow so bad effects so well will have a New Hampshire late at two veterans forum. The next couple of days we're delighted to do that. As a listen we will let it go because we know how crazy and busy at things out -- the end. Delighted that you've given us the commentary in the little peek ahead to the RNC convention next week we'll let you go at this point when the United take a short break -- in a moment. On eighty M 680 WRKO."
" I know we'll come -- doing yoga my listening to good."
