" Hey welcome back with delighted to welcome he had too generous forum on AM succeeded WRKO what doc had paid Duncan. Good morning -- more congressman you good to join us we know what this is this is a sunrise service out in California."
" I wasn't actually I mean BCI got back last night then without doing little work in Nevada and California you know on the that is now also. Oh sure yeah avenue right -- the first of January a lot of travel but just got back to DC and you know it almost"
" insurance listen congressman with delighted you joined us I'm gonna save the Iran Iraq stuff for a little bit later in our conversation wanted to style with a couple of domestic issues if I could just kind of did Duncan hunter view the world on education itself and the federal role congress' role the federal government's role. In education how do you see that and we have might the federal government make. Make it really had a decisive difference."
" Well wolf first I don't think any member -- as -- but Washington -- much young person's education -- as as parents. And their future. But at every now that I think its role although maybe it will -- exception step in Reno and you know. This kind of struggle on the trauma and as. Republicans have always felt or -- the local control of education is important thing. And and they don't want to send edicts from Washington however. There are a lot of schools throughout the country that are right now paralyzed the future. And I think in the case of note now what time which although we. It's that we were gonna test teachers we -- test kits and it's weren't going to be allowed to graduate because it's I'm in the chair. And that if teachers were teaching English there had been no English -- group and they were going to teach math there had been no matter. And and believe me outlook the results some of these there -- some teachers wouldn't decide which should properly structured. In what looked in the elections 38 so so we passed which outlook like the idea that the future or -- And also with Erica oh -- testing in sport it's generally. I also like the idea of charter schools school choice vouchers I'm reminded that. -- in New Orleans you know after you know a lot of schools swept away. The local school districts as the contract with charter schools that is. And Walter nonprofit organizations and schools -- The last time they tested in the when he asked who in the -- citizens who have their order. The 20 best schools 17 of them charters schools so school choice in applications I think is actually as this generation be productive. Going to be smaller than they have this big -- national security bird economic we've got to get more it's a site. The science and and all the disciplines that these are -- age. Because we're going to need -- also revenue economy. That is very strong in in church and science and engineering."
" While congressman credit it yet you could've been listening to the first hour of my show this motto we're in Massachusetts -- adding a science component to the graduation requirement in order to current Massachusetts high school diploma. You know have to show proficiency in math and English and I students do very well in comparison -- the appears across the country now we're going to add size to -- so what ya what you just said. Really I think echoes and confirms you know a policy that Massachusetts has adopted so it sounds as if we you know kind of might be on the same page are no child left behind now that the Democrats are in control of congress. Do you expected to be re authorized in do you expect that the Democrats will try to dilute the accountability aspect of of"
" NC LB you know I think it depends on whether or not yet some pressure from future and you know if if we all agree and the unions agree and they. Parents agree there. Citizens agree that the most. The most crucial product. It is in this country -- urged it young people and the way they're educated in there and there education should is critical. You can't have a factory produced the most important and will be able are one of the workers and and that means you have to you have to be able to demand competence the the teachers he -- level. And and so is it all depends much that the ship acquiescence. Two I would it would probably be the some pressure placed on them by. I noted I think in some areas that there's an argument school districts need some -- it needs flexibility. To be able to get there. In the old way because they have different types of student populations I agree with that that's manifested in the Peter built -- local flexibility but still retains."
" You mentioned Michigan let me jump -- to what I -- appearance on the stage in Dearborn at the Republican debate last week all on economic issues. Curious about congressman Duncan hunter and that's who was speaking to -- itinerant -- elect enough to have congressman had to join us some -- one of the presidential candidates congressman. Your overall view of the economy that challenges that the United States faces from abroad as well as kind of internal developments to our economy how does congressman Duncan not to perhaps soon to be president Duncan hunter. View the challenge of what we're president how to do about it."
" Well wolf first I think were pushing too much or industrial ability to manufacture products offshore -- manufacture. And I told the story and airborne is chairman of the culture which is committee trying to find the company in this country it still makes art great numbers -- eight. On the sides more of these -- in roadside -- Couple years ago. Here it's still make -- great numbers -- everyone and move offshore except for one. And so we have an outlook about you its systems that we used for national security and a lot of them are being pushed off. And very simply we're allowing China to cheat on -- China has by the valuing their currency by 40% is able to undercut practically every American. And that does cost I want steady one point eight million Americans are paying manufacturing. And and and I would reverse that person I think what the president doesn't force trade agreements. -- forced arms or no individual small businessmen and go to China and making -- With the government of China or do with Japan injuring the other country. Right now we allow other subsidized to repay their taxes so essentially their pain -- If they send a product -- you know."
" And they put yeah they export to us."
" And the United States pay double taxes once in taxes here that we get big error in other countries I would employ what I would com -- rate. And that is we called up from war. Essentially edit and a foreign country charges just 20% at eight get our our product and they're going to see that point 8% east area from an. When they send their products that you want to lower to 1% that's side. But the days of one way street will be over. In order."
" You you you mentioned that when your on the stage last week I area I I I found it so intriguing so appealing I scribble that down -- actually made reference to a the next day when -- kind of summarized. The presidential debate. You know President Bush congressman has come in for some I think well deserved criticism. For allowing the the budget to run out of control and that has happened in lodge -- While Republicans are also in congress the Democrats having grabbed control just in last fall's elections as president what would again not congressman Duncan hunter but perhaps soon president Duncan hunter. As president how would you go about restoring the federal budget two you know a semblance at least of balance."
" Well wolf first thing I would there was I would remind people you're only allowed under 61 billion dollar art deficit this year. If you if you pulled out President Bush's defense such. Which is pretty good defense but now. And you put in Jimmy Carter's defense budget not Jimmy Carter bill Clinton's defense budget fact if you use Carter's -- that worked through you put it bill bill Clinton's defense budget the 1990s. In this budget this year would have a surplus. Because Bill Clinton defense master. That's for our army divisions out of our -- one reason we don't have I would got your production people have to go more often probably slash defense well below 150 billion dollar below fortunate then. And so I just want to remind folks that the the responsible defense spending that is -- defense afterward chirpy is one reason for 760 billion dollar deficit but I would freeze defense domestic spending discretionary spending. But the other thing that I would do is I would restore the trade balance and I remind my colleagues we got a 160 billion dollar. Budget deficit this year we've got an 800 billion dollar trade deficit this year. And -- take a 75000 dollar a year job in Massachusetts California here I network a push it to China. And that guy goes out and replaces that 75000 dollar a year job with 20000 he goes from -- substantial tax is the pain virtually. Don't -- perhaps and probably a federal program. They're strong connection between trade deficit. And the budget deficit hit an 800 billion dollar trade deficit and not have a budget deficit and --"
" Would -- congressman Duncan hunter Republican candidate for president participant that many debates. Congressman you know it's inevitable this seems to be what I call the media mentality of handicapping the race. And the names McCain Romney Giuliani not necessarily in that order up. They keep popping up and it seems to crowd out guys like and a fellow by the -- Duncan hunter a Sam Brownback a Mike huckabee. What's what she assent to that how do you plan on punching through to get your message out during the debates."
" Well you know you're you're it just takes a lot of hard work because when you started from single congressional. In a spangled stated you don't have national labor identification. -- we have a lot of work to my message it was strong national enforceable orders built that border and in net in California. And I broke the law that takes -- off to south west. And also bring bring back our opinion manufacturing jobs to America that message resonates the American people are a couple of weeks ago. I won the Texas awful Texas State Republican convention by more than one of the most guys and that was that was an option for its options. And you know I won the Arizona -- all outside between Giuliani in the opposite that the urged that they off all the east of the Mississippi. That was in South Carolina on the Fox News there lives. So what I have what I can focus my message. Audit constituency and I and that tellem what I stand for I do very well so we're gonna work ordered in. Captured here in the next few weeks especially because new accurately all the primary up by --"
" I assure you you might be yet they may bar -- at 2000 and that 2007 -- the day."
" But he entry you do everything you can and it's a lot of hard work"
" do you see it as set too many presidential debates today become a distraction -- do you see the Morris an opportunity."
" Oh I think they're -- opportunities shortly from millions and and I like a -- it's pretty but --"
" congressman I believe that you have a family member perhaps -- son who's in service wearing the uniform of the country I think I recall you making that a statement with great deal of pride in an -- debate let me shift focus of I can't two Iraq again president Duncan hunter inherits a situation in January of 2000 innate which you view of we we out today. The propriety of the wisdom of the search policy and what what president Duncan had to be doing."
" Yeah what well first somewhat sunny two -- and -- and now in Afghanistan and back in November. He's on the ballot in fact of course sign that the for -- backing Serbs so he only got -- of congress from Afghanistan."
" Well on the debate pop pop pop pop pop -- take you to -- me at all."
" I think he's I think he's got some us -- that it is DNA it is a genetic there's a genetic Cody of that please have to public service in the interest of all let me just say -- to file the I have two daughters of immensely proud and I just say this to you as a citizen taxpayer and father. Thank you -- service 22 -- in Iraq on an Afghanistan we should all just say pause and say step back from the politics from and it just say thank you."
" he did it yeah acting -- be out Libya ultimate penalty one battlefield it Iraq here's what I would -- you know we we've got the -- off the security successful. Is reliable -- the and you know now a military it's protecting. And the Iraqi army is comprised under 31. My recommendation in the make sure that we want to vote if you reforma combat over in interest zone. Like Anbar province this side. And when they are battle -- they are they in the battlefield displace American forces are we found that forces and -- But other places are places like Anbar province which was that -- surprise -- arrangement blood sweat and tears. I have a pushed down via the -- numbers now there's much in October. We recently attacked members 80 by 80% of what it war last October. And I think this statement by an Emory and -- here a couple of days ago that they US Marines are rushing. Al Qaeda in Anbar province is very act. Out of departure. I would there urged that the much that your military Stan. Fighting couple years ago it -- formation seminary and we it's a but today you got -- a military is much more experience. We're going to leave Iraq in victory that it -- and this thing off -- the force be able to keep that -- government to protect it. Stumbled forward there're -- an inept government just like most governments are. My my what is your -- wrote black and all of these reports that there are things could've been very smooth that we just done things differently don't hold much water with this -- Part of the world -- used to democracy they've been trying to accommodate its leadership. I think with a good job there it was going to be able and this this battle field off to an Iraqi army. We're gonna leave with that with countries that will be an ally not an aperture obvious state sponsor affairs. Cycle that successful operation and rock I think that on the -- I think there."
" Which -- congressman Duncan hunter he is a congressman from California and also candidate for the Republican nomination to the presidents of the presidency the United States will be up the New Hampshire neighbor to the north shortly and of course you probably know congressman here on AM succeeded WR KUS signal 50000 watts. Goes well -- into New Hampshire get thousands of many thousands of New Hampshire -- let me shift the focus a little bit Iran you know I'm Ahmadinejad seems to be completely out of his mind and yet in in methodical pursuit. A nuclear weapons and the way he talked about Israel the United States and western civilization. Would it would it would sober up almost anybody what's. President Duncan hunter's view on Iran"
" systems used weapons here it's the most that five points. That four we can't let them get there. My recommendation is we let them vote the agent because it's some other stuff on line. Or can use that country then here today -- NC error -- another terror supporting states. We can't let. Most violation and -- pride used sanctions any really effective sanctions will be -- China and Russia China and Russia much oil not going to -- harsh sanctions in convenience. And and that's where we're walking as they walked weapon. The United States is going to have to stop that either diplomatically. And so for the diplomacy has worked these economic sanctions. That hasn't worked for. But in the end that we have physical stop that we do that we."
" What I'm hearing is a possibility at least I know you're not making any promise or commitment on about the possibility of a preemptive strike. And I assume I assume but I need guidance on affirmative I can't congressman would that -- empower -- would that be empower an an invasion."
" Well well it depends what you have two yeah. It's -- possibility of the station -- most would stop. And that's. That's people -- civilized and and I think you gotta use you -- like -- in the 80s. That was built nuclear reactor and well actually 16 morning to share. Probably in in preemptive operation operation science -- Fully -- facility that I've there's number of scenarios that are that are potential but obviously power it's in deep strike in situations strike -- It is very important and also -- The future of having a having gotten that means you may need to have ground element that and may sprite. Record ground so grounded air element with the the dominant use your element is is it weighed with other aid package to be."
" We're talking to Republican presidential candidate congressman Duncan hunter from California -- been great with your time congressman -- two -- to bring it back stateside you would mentioned the immigration issue I know your district -- right up to were going to San Diego million California Mexican border. And the fence issued the security fence it has some residents Saudi we have a local special election going on in Massachusetts to replace congressman Marty Meehan an immigration even in Massachusetts has become an issue. Tell us about the the Duncan hunter initiative down -- in what the results of that."
" What you know we had the worst smuggling. Court or America -- most of the came in this country came backcourt between Tijuana Mexico California. I've built the double border fence which is -- that about 50 yards part. With high speed for all -- So smuggler comes over the first I speak for all -- well here work second trapped. In between defenses and by doing that we reduced to smuggle people much sector. I'm more than 90% struggle for law that takes -- 150 miles Arizona New Mexico and Texas. And that's what -- on plugin for him not it was because he just order that. And I don't know about as about the orbit whether she would be your not. You know I also have a little -- some kind of connection with this it is -- and -- his brother 1 of those planes shadows are."
" My brother was CI his brother was the pilot of one of the hijacked American airline plans that flew out of Logan on that dreadful 9/11."
" That's right and you know you know months and law quit his job and joint US courts I've got a 9/11 to. In connection with this -- watching him. And then and and from everything that's in about art quality and I understand it also its orbit it. -- about it they've having illegally aliens be allowed drivers."
" Yes she's embraced apparently she's comfortable with data's the proposal was well aside in state tuition for the children of illegal illegal aliens. And they're."
" I am against that incidentally have good reason that we. Of the 19 terrorist or -- nine elevenths -- at 63 state driver's licenses and drivers licenses instruments. Around the country. You know airplanes everyone knows the -- out and out these drivers licenses like popcorn. He's not going to be here."
" Well congressman you've been great with it time don't be stranger when you get back appeared stomping around the the fields of the town halls of New Hampshire are always a happy -- Heavy -- we've made a conscious effort here at RK ought to give a little forum a little opportunity in a microphone to all the presidential candidates and you made a great case for yourself. We've been talking to congressman Duncan hunter -- Iraq -- for may have succeeded WRKO. Congressman back to our congress we know you've got work to do and will be back with UN -- calls in a moment on AM 680 WRKO"
