Athiest Group wants 9-11 Cross RemovedA group of atheists has filed a lawsuit to stop the display of the World Trade Center cross at a memorial of the 9/11 terror attacks. The "government enshrinement of the cross was an impermissible mingling of church and state," the American Atheists say in a press statement. The group says it filed the lawsuit this week in state court in New York and posted a copy of the lawsuit on its website. The lawsuit names many defendants, including the state of New Jersey, the city of New York , New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. What is Barack Obama's Balanced Approach?
There were things the president did right in his speech Monday night. He was calm and cool—if critical of the other party—an appropriate tone for a chief executive in crisis, and a sharp contrast to House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio)’s fiery and combative response. His quotation of Reagan and reminders about past debt ceiling hikes put the current debate into some much-needed context. And then there was Obama’s focus on the need to take a balanced approach that would include closing tax loopholes on wealthy individuals and corporations. Using the bully pulpit to reiterate his reasonable desire (at least that’s what most Americans reportedly think) to include both spending and revenues to fix the problem may reinforce his position. Except that we are now eight days away from the apparent default deadline, and taxes appear to no longer be on the table. What is President Obama's balanced approach?

Anthony Weiner Bows Out
Embattled Rep. Anthony Weiner resigned today after admitting to sexually charged relationships with women on Facebook and Twitter. "Today I am announcing my resignation ... so my colleagues can get back to work, my neighbors can choose a new representative, and most importantly, that my wife and I can continue to heal from the damage that I've caused," the New York Democrat said. Howie wanted to know who was saddened and who was gladdened.
