Should illegal aliens receive in-state tuition
Audio

More fromHowie Carr
With federal efforts stalled, state lawmakers are making a push of their own for a controversial measure allowing illegal immigrants to pay in-state tuition at state colleges. The Joint Committee on Higher Education will hold a hearing today on two bills that would implement the change, which proponents say will make access to higher education more equitable. But opponents argue the legislation is yet another attempt to give breaks to illegal immigrants to the harm of lawful citizens. The state bills are similar in aim to the federal Dream Act, which goes a step further by granting conditional permanent residency status to qualifying illegal immigrants who graduate from high school. Since being introduced a decade ago, the Dream Act has repeatedly failed to gain enough congressional support to become law. Should Illegal Aliens recieve in-state tuition?
