  1. A solution is Finally Passed on Debt Ceiling

    Audio

    08/02/2011

Hemmed in by the looming threat of an historic government default, the Senate on Tuesday passed a $2 trillion-plus debt extension and sent it to the White House, where President Obama signed it — just in time to keep federal borrowing and spending on track. The bipartisan 74-26 vote followed Monday’s equally strong vote of support in the House, and ratifies the agreement Mr. Obama and the four top party leaders in Congress reached this weekend to cut about $1 trillion in future spending and set up a process to cut more than $1 trillion more, coupled with an up to $2.4 trillion increase in the federal debt-ceiling limit. Was it a good idea?

  2. Vexed By The VMT

    Audio

    05/06/2011

The proposed “Transportation Opportunities Act” would mandate a vehicle miles traveled (VMT) tax that’s calculated by installing electronic equipment on each car and at filling stations. VMT calculation and payment would take place electronically every time you buy gas at the pump. Buying and maintaining the equipment would undoubtedly be at a cost to service stations and vehicle owners, and non-compliance will likely result in hefty fines. The plan is a part of an administration’s draft proposal obtained by Transportation Weekly. Howie is pissed and wanted to know from callers how this proposed robbery was going to effect them.

  3. Tax Per Mile

    Audio

    05/06/2011

Of all the ideas the White House has floated for taking more of your money, none is more pernicious than the latest: slapping a tax on you for every mile you drive. Howie was under the impression that was what our gas tax did already.

  4. Is Easter to blame for Unemployment Rates?

    Audio

    04/28/2011

First-time filings for unemployment claims jumped last week, coming in above the key 400,000 level for the third straight week, according to a government report Thursday. The number of initial claims rose to to 429,000 in the week ended Apr. 23, up 25,000 from the week before. It was the highest level in three months, and surprised economists, who were expecting initial claims to drop to 390,000 in the latest report. They are blaming the Easter holiday for the numbers. "This is a major disappointment because it's another move in the wrong direction," said Tim Quinlan, economic analyst at Wells Fargo. Are you surprised about the latest figures?
