  2. Is New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg Catering to Muslim Faith?

    Audio

    Thu, 1 Sep 2011

    More fromJen Brien

Nearly ten years after 9/11, hateful rhetoric about Muslims has become all too common and even gone “mainstream.” A recent email by Andrea Lafferty, the president of the Traditional Values Coalition (TVC), offers yet another example. Entitled “Islamists Continue Conquest of New York City,” the email makes a not-too-subtle reference to the Crusades, as if “Islamists” are knocking at the gates of Western civilization. According to Lafferty, Mayor Michael Bloomberg deciding to exclude clergy and first responders from the tenth annual memorial service of the 9/11 attacks is a sign that Muslims are continuing their “conquest of New York City.” Bloomberg’s decision to make the ceremony “fully non-denominational” and to remove the” uncomfortable religion angle from the event” has not been without controversy. Lafferty takes it a step farther and contends that Bloomberg is doing nothing less than “exterminating expressions of faith.” Is this wrong for us to cater to the Muslim faith?

  3. 7-21 Outrage of the Day-Cleaning up after yorself and dog

The city is handing out fewer tickets to pet owners who don’t clean up after their dogs as some miffed residents are revolting against the mess with warning signs to scofflaws amid increasing anger over doggie doo. “You step in it. It’s a mess. They are supposed to be fined, but they just don’t do anything about it,” said South Boston dad Bernhardt Ochse who bolted an official-looking sign onto a post near his house. Fed up with dog excrement on the sidewalk, he’s contemplated security cameras. The number of dog-fouling violations has dropped from a five-year high of 26 in 2008 to just nine last year, according to animal control. In the first five months of the year, the city issued six violations, each of which carries a $50 fine. Should dog owners be fined for not cleaning up the dog's mess?

  4. The President And His Obsession with Corporate Jet Owners

    Audio

    Thu, 30 Jun 2011

    More fromHowie Carr

President Barack Obama hit Republicans over tax breaks for corporate jets at least four times in the opening moments of his news conference, seeking to dial up pressure on the GOP to accept tax increases as part of a budget deal. Republicans weren’t having it. They suggested repeal of the corporate-jet break – which they’ve so far opposed – is a stalking horse for much larger tax increases that Democrats really want. Howie had no faith that President Obama has any clue about the economy.

  5. Who would you vote for Michele Bachmann or Sarah Palin?

    More fromHowie Carr

Republican voters are not satisfied with the candidates running for the Republican nomination and wish they had more choices, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News poll. None of the candidates currently hoping to challenge President Obama in 2012 has earned enthusiastic support from more than 7 percent of Republican voters. At the same time, Americans are closely divided over Mr. Obama’s handling of his job as president: 47 percent approve and 44 percent disapprove. With the exception of a short-lived jump in approval ratings after the death of Osama bin Laden, the public’s evaluation of Mr. Obama’s stewardship has remained steady — ranging from 44 percent to 49 percent over the past year. Americans are especially critical of the way Mr. Obama has handled the economy, though they are more likely to blame the Bush administration and Wall Street for its dismal state than Mr. Obama. Who do you want to represent the Republicans in 2012?
