was something very powerful I thought that happened yesterday. And that was Mitt Romney doing the interview with Mark Halperin for time magazine. That showed him talking in very soft tones just about. How this presidentpromised to do. And four or this president do try to vilify. Mitt Romney's . Business record when this president hasn't -- the inside of the lemonade stand. When it comes to business in the country Iend of the day with people literally. I watched the debate last night and I enjoyed it I did I sat down to watch this I was not looking forward to it I was. It wasn't it wasn't a sense of dread it was just a sense of almost we Venus -- wariness we reduce that. Gee you know this is narrow niche audience and I've got to tell -- that I came away from the debate thinking really kind of holding two simultaneous thoughts. This was the best and the worst of American politics the best in this way the highs the high points to for me. With a specific issues which were raised. And to watch the candidate's response to these specific issues three jumped out at me I'm sure there are others that really caught your attention as well. Pensions pensions in the way we treat -- failed to treat and protect. Pensions for ordinary workers are might sound like a Connie -- might sound like a what left wing -- I might sound like a socialist. The is something fundamentally wrong with the United States of America when we allow workers pensions. To be just to ripped away by bankruptcy court -- other legal maneuvering. That is a disgrace and I'm glad the question came up and I hope is still I hope there is a lot of focus on that in the months ahead to Republicans should be put. Their feet should be put to the fire on that one as should the Democrats in I'm not looking for a left wing. Loony left socialist responsible looking for an intelligent way to legitimately protect the tensions that have been parent by American workers sometimes over 30 or 40 year Korea have a rip away from them in nearly 80 years is absolutely savage and it should not be allowed or -- permitted in this country in the United States of America. That was one of the issues I -- Another issue I enjoyed was they continued focus on Iraq it's absolutely he -- That Iraq continue to be played out and developed by both the Democrats and Republicans so we'd the American people. Can make the most intelligent choice possible and I also like the presentation of China. Is it an ally is it a follow an adversary or competitor whatever words you want to choose what to the candidates think about when they think of China. Because clearly it is emerging continues to emerge as an incredibly potent force. Any potential threat to the United States that's what I liked about the debate he is what I did not like about the debate. The antics. Of the audience people jumping up and down with the -- T shirts on and wave at behind the the moderator and try to get the F face on television it's juvenile it's what kind of expect that. It's the sophomoric stuff you expect outside outside a ball park after somebody's consume too much wine too much via rating Andy.
And.
what I would call the rudeness of the audience you might not agree with what candidates stripper candidate Finneran has to say in a particular audience on a particular response to particular question. But to boo to try to -- to try to interrupt an an and drowned the guest speaker's response out is not right it is sometimes
for media tactical antic at labor rallies where they're looking for you to -- deflect the entire tablet of commandments that they issue to candidates. And I also think that I approached this at least thinking that this would be a very narrow lead based and therefore almost selfish debate a boat. The things that only labor cares about including some things such as Mosher a department of Labor Department labor policies like debates that focus on larger national issues issues of concern to all Americans. Not just union officials. Now look a Venice supportive of the unions as as anybody of ever met. Received there endorsement many many times of the different can't races that I reentry but also have my fights in my disagreements with the union leaders in union membership so right stood -- in my heels and would stand my ground on something that I thought they were wrong about I like the specific issues that we're raised and I have to overall say I'm glad I sat down watched this debate. It reached the level that I did not expect and so congratulations to everybody who was involved -- it was MSNBC. That did this 1 and obviously the AF LC -- oh this was held. At an an historic place. His soldier's field at Chicago's very well known place legendary place. And I continue to think that Hillary Clinton finds ways to distinguish yourself from the pack handy if you can go to that that cut just so I can share with RKO audience kind of the flavor right from the stock.
We'll keep them I want to thank you LC IO and MSNBC for having us here you know my late father was a fanatic bears fan of the idea that any of his children would be on the ten yard line soldier field. It's an extraordinary accomplishment as far as I'm concerned. And I am very much in mind those miners in Utah on we know is -- out our hearts and prayers and hopes that goal with them as this rescue effort continues.
You know she has a way better than all the other candidates gathered on that stage she has a way to quickly identify with that particular audience in a particular town wherever the audience is has gathered Hillary Clinton to her credit we'll find a way to connect and kicking and she cites her late father she cites the fear that the fact that he was fanatical Chicago bay is. Hand and that the is his daughter here in the United States of America standing on what you you know what she characterizes the ten guidelines really the MS NB stage. But she's an -- outlined its soldiers field. And that is a good way to connect to regular Americans had to dispel a dispute the notion that she's an ice lady. That she doesn't honesty and ordinary Americans their passions the hobbies there excitement about certain things and she ties have been very very nicely to the historic dimension of her candidacy she is a woman she's the only one up there on the stage and she is she was at least hypothetically you know kind of an up into hyperbolic -- cents on the -- that is a great great way to stand up the debate. Listen I told you that I found myself in the odd position. Of being in agreement with the one anomaly Dennis Kucinich. If he did not see this debate you have no idea what you missed because I'll say this for Kucinich I think he's is crazy.
Of that book. And I don't yes that's that that's the appropriate music. Appropriate soundtrack here I think Kucinich is as crazy as a bed bug. And I find myself in almost total disagreement with every one of his issues. But give credit to the guy. He rings the music to that stage. He knows what he stands for. He knows what he's going to fight for there is no hesitation there is no reference to notes -- is nothing but passion unrestrained passion in his response to the questions will we he stands at what he will fight hard to get I disagree with all of it except fought. An extraordinary moment and it brought a smile to life.
said that might make one -- my -- the early ala. Made reference to the the patriots in their pursuit of a publicly financed stadium he had in Boston the late congressman Joe moakley was involved in in the -- moves that occurred in south Boston I was involved in the debate as to whether this any role -- responsibility for the taxpayers to provide funding. To a league made up a franchises owned by a billion years. In the play is a multi millionaires and coast my position was pretty well known and it may be fairly notorious. And there are still level of notoriety that attaches to -- I think it's silly absolutely absurd to suggest that taxpayers have any responsibility that you put up a nickel. The billionaire as a multimillion as they can pay for and it's been demonstrated amply he locally. Locally that they that that that the owners in the league should take the responsibility it's not a responsibility of the taxpayers but. The question was phrased of Dennis Kucinich I want you to listen to Dennis Kucinich is response.
We're here tonight in this beautifully and recently renovated soldier field. Partially renovated -- to about 400 million dollars in taxpayer money. Should state and local and in some cases by proxy anyway federal government's. Subsidize private businesses like sports teams by building them stadiums when perhaps that choice is being made at the expense of infrastructure and bridges.
I'd actually been involved in an argument for many years and I think that his eyes at Cleveland instead of spending 400. Billion or more for a stadium why don't we just behind the team.
I mean. And that is I looked up and I said Dennis Kucinich you've nailed it in a few words. You've nailed the absurdity of the proposals whenever they have made by anybody hey listen I realize that at WR KO with a broadcast station alpha Red Sox. Proud of that affiliation love the Red Sox were all Red Sox fans allowed to see John Henry and Lucchino and Tom -- the whole team succeed front office the players on the team and all that stuff it back and you believe it is right it is that Syria -- anybody to suggest the expenditure of any public money even a -- For any of the professional sports franchises they -- private businesses private. Businesses we don't do it Kucinich nails. I nails it. You know what Kucinich and he needed it he did it very skillfully by the way in a presidential debate any kind of debate you have to make your point quickly you have to make -- it's almost like a a sport of fencing you get in and out quickly with your weapon. You don't linger around to draw are -- out of a long drawn out yet -- In an out quickly. What he did not have the time to say yet to share with you is that when Cleveland was doing all this stuff for the a sports franchises in new stadium for the baseball team a new stadium for the football team after the original football team it's stab them in the back and left in the middle of the night. And that was not -- and the gentleman that I referred to as a flat bleak millionaire that -- millionaire that was Bob Kraft knows out it was but Delano is very specific and clear an open by the people around in this town like to try to use it for the around. Advantage that being said soak -- in Cleveland goes to bat in puts up hundreds of millions of dollars for rock and roll Hall of Fame. He had for a new stadium for the Cleveland Indians -- for new stadium for the browns in you don't what was happening how that time. The Cleveland schools are falling down around the school chula around -- it children's ears and head. The schools were read receivership they were bankrupt he had the roof falling in no computers no textbooks teachers bailing out everything else so the choice that the Cleveland leaders made at that point in time -- Kucinich is absolutely right. The trees that they made was let's give subsidies to multi millionaires and billionaires and let's screw Iraq Sons and -- we won't provide them the tools -- setting. The facilities for a proper education it is of Syrian it was a -- when it was proposed around here it's absurd now Kucinich nailed it. Nailed that last night I was crazy is a bad but but every once in awhile like it's even a broken clock is right. Once a day is it not so it is there were there was my friend Dennis Kucinich and how was he on -- Last night. He was just on a -- every issue that came up attacked my brothers and sisters of the union movement and have stood with few if we're going to have signaled a universal not for profit health yet he was rant and -- raven almighty god I think he's set. I think he'd be at home in -- Moscow you know Moscow 20 years ago before they embraced some had somewhat of an embrace of capitalism and free markets. I do want to take calls on this. I'm curious what you saw what you heard what you liked what you just like I have my own view on all these candidates how they did and how they're doing. One other -- be for a gets the calls the number yes six point 72666868 is the number email address T Finneran. At WR KO dot com. He is another reason why like this debate. The elbows were out last night and they were shop elbows that were flying. He did it have to be you don't have to be a poll -- a train political scientist to notice that the gloves I coming. Off the elbows of being thrown those -- shop elbows out via a lot of the man dead Hillary but a lot of them aimed back at Barack. -- Ed woods and all the like -- is going to get become more and more contentious. I love it it's helpful to us the American voters so that we make the best in the wise decision let's go right to shot he's gone from west Roxbury HI Iran on French foreign.
Speaker Michael yeah. At that point -- You know detect and -- and -- the fact that what the -- I disagree with and then then I realize it's bigger patriot. What did happen how much money -- it is making now and and you know again. It's kinda like you told me itself and I appreciate that now -- appreciated that. And and the second point I want to make -- just figured I'd let you know Hillary but the idea -- being asked by -- senator Richard -- that that it was cannot help but work on on a campaign for our. 4 O'Clock we've got wet and some people say it was the first quite articulate the first. And she was but want. She would want but never forgot. Chu -- net remembered that -- remember people working on the campaign was very very thoughtful. It really believe that you know the -- woman achieve all --
shot shot I find -- interest in what if she -- with us because that's an insight that you really only somebody like you us senate -- appreciate that that in a sense of appreciation for you wear -- early commitment the significance of that in her ability to remember she did become the First Lady the United States -- years and works then at a high level a lot of people in politics you seen it happen shot they forget. They could get where they came from they forget the little people like you help them along the way when they were really just trying to get some traction. And in other kind of a bubbling for a couple out of Arkansas.
That's absolutely correct speaker you know I appreciate the fact that early and even today might not let an enterprise alot but. You know a -- it you know not asking me out but just remembering. You know I worked on.
Remember every member initiate experiencing any in any any generosity not necessarily have financials sense but. The time and the effort that that he gave to anyone other comment China protects a mother calls. On this you mentioned you know kind of the ice lady reputation any he has some stories such. She'd she'd be raped the secrecy of issues throw in lamps at people and swearing like a trooper and everything eligible -- Then I'm telling you that these debates have softened her it both sovereign parent presented her in an incredibly capable light I. I might politics and her as a not an alignment. But every time I watch one of these debates I -- repressed she's running rings around that field she is good. She is my she's tough she's articulate she's poised and she comes across not as a cold. Calculating ice you know lady Macbeth. She's coming across as a serious candidate.
I agree speaker I -- ago last night and I or should. I think her image is she is that the real woman that I know I I I remember it. Talk show I listened to would have -- morning I don't know we -- people getting their numbers but it's not on the real people.
Oh hey hey let's that I I don't even talked about it has its. It sounds it sounds defensive job but to just trust me want to tell that the numbers -- each and every month around he has -- management's faces David stop brick and glass from all the filth opt opt out. John appreciate the -- going to go right to Don and middle all right Don what do did you see it last night what did you think
can I -- actually Clinton ever be issued a joint puke.
I guess -- I guess you would show I don't necessarily Gregory.
Deduction English -- don't shall we can't keep looking up well this let. Yeah it's called that I want to try to go about our true first of all their Kucinich it's derby because it -- chicken I agree to be spent to write the heck out -- I'll.
That's about it I -- honest I haven't had to view and I tired I I'd sit there on the sofa I don't watch notice that the my wife. All my god this is that it is it's scary here in agreement with this guy -- I think government you know it's like I'm broadcasting from the -- in my --
And -- going to -- do what appears so because we've -- silicone all the what you're saying it brought about what to qualify -- are you qualified to be ready almost all I want the truth that -- get it they'll tell you realize that. I'm just probably two actually Qatar would ban all. -- as -- investors stop stop what the governor and other credible yes you have I don't think you have it all they. If you just -- veteran radio talk show host who just getting started I don't shortly on the next show. You know we're going to --
I appreciate -- we do a lot of work on that reached leader in India -- helped me out -- that I know Jason Wolfe and Julie kind of you know and it really does -- cut above I'm not bragging it's just a fact of life.
I don't sit Beckett did do a good job to do you have in -- and bingo got -- cartel -- early by the fact that -- Even English try to be little football you.
I don't I don't I don't necessarily buy it for a minute but I can admired the way. She presented it to the hometown audience Chicago the Chicago -- the legendary aspect of soldiers field. He had you know against a -- into account the a motive moments that we relate to father's pride particularly daughters who moved forward in a tough competitive sometimes vicious world number of the world of politics and -- she is on the stage she is the serious presidential -- you'll -- And I might disagree whether on 90% of the time but nobody can dispute she is right now the favorite to be the next president grit to his dad. Dad if he was alive -- If he was alive or dead would be immensely proud and eventually throws in the -- I'd like it's a clincher politically it's a clincher and and it really kind of knocks Iraq. On his on his candy for any here in front of his home audience.
I'd -- I think you're out. Just political stake and I think Giuliani is actually the vivid expression of the United States
I'm not count not Romney I think our own former governor is going to be a formidable -- Julie I Julie Giuliani and I and I don't disagree with -- let's derided kerala the hunt and it's great great theater no question about it
