That's awesome -- that it would love you tell that story again -- dove a story about the title that all the time goal by Iowa State championship.

That is the voice of Mike O'Malley who has been here with us on -- form any number of times and he is a wonderful local guy. Who was made good never forgotten his roots just a -- success after success out they're what I call Hollywood land but he brings great Boston and New England credentials up and bad news out -- Hollywood land and debt. You -- the last that we had Mike -- it was to promote the Jason very tech Tim Wakefield pitching in for kids golf tournament the Jared comedy act comedy event. At Daniel all the golf tournament as you know is this coming Monday down a black crack but Mike O'Malley is in the news because of a the release of his movie limited release we'll talk about it and -- on Broadway that cut you just period. Was Mike O'Malley who plays believe it or not sit down now -- JQ you have you seatbelts on Michael mail is playing priest -- is -- a challenge to seize anything. He's a wonderful guy but he's anything but -- but this is going to be great stuff and guess what a joint here the RKO studio by Dave McLaughlin amounted McLaughlin has so many years. He's a great kid out of west Roxbury creative genius some not embellish or just a creative genius great writer he got to tell us David just tell us this story it's a Boston story can see the pride in Iran as an how how much how much you've worked on -- tell us about on Broadway.

Sure thanks it's. It's sort of a story about the power stories in the way that story stories have the potential to sort of bring people together and create community. And obviously Boston is as a culture that is rich in storytelling you know whether it's the political world who have sort of the neighborhood world and so this kind of a slice of life of of neighborhood life in Boston and in Boston's Irish American community.

And putting though whole movie together like tell us about some of the some of the act as an actress is used to Boston connections are -- trying to transplant Boston story on somebody from --

No I'm really you know for for a small movie like this who made this movie for a little less than a million dollars which is that you know about 2% of the average studio movie for a movie like this that doesn't have car crashes in the helicopter shots at all that kind of stuff you really mean high quality authenticity in order to sort of make the story work and so I reached out to a bunch of you know stars who had Boston roots and and then got them back here to do -- a -- work collect and box it was great it was it was Joey macintyre Joey macintyre raissi is a planned yep yeah Joe realize -- goes from one it sounds big star from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and -- bring it on and true lies and saw Mike O'Malley already mentioned -- was very welcoming home any polar. I'm from -- came back and did so when my -- supporting cameo in the movie Bob Wahlberg who's in Dorchester is. In the movie and then a couple of Irish actors from from the abbey theater who were real sort of stage legend scheme in played some of the you know the first generation --

you've -- somebody involved in the production this movie that I know first candies cousin of mine -- days was -- columnists and a photographer and given a fancy title I the you say that as though as dumb announcer he deserves the title I know I Europe he owns that title his.

Really -- is brilliant and I and I always say to people I think that ten years from now. People going to be asking me how the heck did you get -- to -- on the movie is an that's a video.

It's an act rate -- no note Terence his mom and dad for many many years there have that little cousins so you know its way it's one of those great creative Irish families but for the veterans but for the -- You gotta tell me about Mike O'Malley he plays the role of a priest what any give the audience the active audience a little just a little teaser little taste of the plot what's the source the story here.

So Joe macintyre -- whose you know 30 something kind of Boston every -- as a carpenter the movie sort of loosely set in Jamaica plain but we're not really that specific about what neighborhood we're in anyway so the movie opens Jack's uncle who is really close to. Dies suddenly falls off a roof and Jack sort of so blown away by this that he he feels like he has to try and tell the local story as a way to get closer to his own father. Mike plays Jack's older brother father rowly O'Toole who is a priest and of sort of a man of few words he's interesting character that you don't really see in film today it's it's almost like a bing Crosby priest you know it's it's a guy who's not preachy but he's also not you know. An alcoholic are some sort of negative thing you're so he's kind of as men of few words and in the -- when when Jack needs him to confront him and challenge -- and so forth he steps -- to him -- he's very funny he's got a little bit stressed that could have -- you know.

The tennis since got a perfectly OK well then you realize it's real it's the real deal is the real deal. Tell us tell me where you know my wife and I've got a weekend coming up and I know the RKO audiences always say interest of good stuff in anything going on within IP of the delve into this.

Sure I think I -- one that's probably a little bit outside the area tonight there's a charity screening on north Hampton the academy of music but probably of more interest to -- greater Boston audiences. A week from tomorrow so Saturday August 4 we're going to screen at the whistle film festival in Falmouth and that's August -- PM the website. It is would -- film festival dot org or people can go to our website which is on Broadway the movie dot com and they can navigate that way.

And that's that's August 4 to sit down at -- which all film festival. -- from from the from the the screening Jim had that's any awards any any any you know. The response is integral to -- to tell us what that yet what the west of what's the professional world saying when they review this movie. The -- you know what's contained within it and how well it's been received sure.

While sailor what the professional world in sort of real people because that's really who made -- four. We -- the movie at an independent film festival Boston in April we had to screenings in this Somerville theater and Davis wears about a thousand seats. Both of whom are completely sold out standing room only extending standing ovation it was a -- I -- gratified to make sort of you know our Boston movie and try and really capture life in the city and a way to feels true -- to have to show it to Bostonians first into haven't validated that way amazing then we went to the Hoboken film festival we got nominated for five -- there best picture best director best actor to support -- two best supporting actor -- and then we just got back from galway Ireland we were at the 19 annual galway film flying. We want one of the two awards that they gave for best first feature film so to have embraced by the Irish audience was another you know really sort of grim milestone for us because some. There can be a tough --

had you know the Irish can be very discerning travel when you when he hit the Mark when you when you put the bat on the ball they'll also standup Brenda give him more than a pat on the back of you via. To give you a boost. I don't understand the movie business and I'm sure most of my audience doesn't understand that as well from those type of -- that type of professional recognition. Hoboken in Boston film festival -- way that's the you know you three for three at some -- are pretty high level. What if it does that mean -- like at some point you know there's going to be a general release were right and go brought somebody can go watch it every adult cinema -- you know up in every via wrote some -- like that.

Here's here's a layman's version of what happens right just like in any business you have a production entity that's us we produce the product -- and then you have an exhibit there which is the cinema or -- whatever -- in the -- have the distributor who distributed to the cinnamon dvd and cable and so and so what we're doing now is talking with distributors to make the deal and and they still can happen in any number ways because you have. A whole bunch of formats -- moments of ancillary rights you have a whole bunch of international territory so it's a pretty complex dialogue you know where where confident that we're going to get. You know not an enormous release but it but sort of respectable releasing the movie connects with people. It during its release the way than it has during its festival period then you know probably grow a little bit from there it's a movie that you know just cuts across. There was a Jamaican guy in in Hoboken who just. Couldn't stop talking about how universal the story was -- thing that were so specific to the community that we're presenting this kind of neighborhood -- learn community. But by by doing that we've made this story that really cuts across -- everybody you know has regardless of your community you you want to be -- dad national and you want to folly dreams and you'll want to you know we all have to deal with loss and you'll have to sort of use a little little after that help us and so does a sort of the things that that make up the -- and and that's the stuff that people are really things.

So I'm sorry gonna ask you this week if you eat eat he had a guy who actually puts this down on paper really kind of thinks that through through how long has the story been inside.

Dave McLaughlin it's funny during the production I was taken personal files still to look for some notes and I found a copy of the script. That was register with the Writers Guild in 1999 so I know it's at least that far back they -- wrote a draft -- might be little different now. So tomorrow.

Do you know we always hear about you know the prima -- in Hollywood in this guy's tough to work with in this actresses impossible so it's those easy such and such any any particular stories from the set you know people always ask hey is Wahlberg a spoiled brat as Joey macintyre -- possible to work with are they really Kenneth -- earth Dave McLaughlin type guys. I going to say Tom.

You know this movie making experience with an absolute gifts from the point of view of the the spirit of camaraderie among the actors among the crew people talk about you know sometimes you eat you. People are not sure what they're going to get in terms of producing movies in Boston. I'm actually in the process of setting up company to do only that because it because there's such a great group of people crew people you know unions you know the mayor's office I can't tell you how much mayor menino administration helped -- just with the logistics you know the MBTA it was very supportive so. So really everybody just kind of got onboard and supported this thing and so which is great isn't that sense everybody can take ownership of this. Movie that's really sort of a love letter to Boston in Boston -- neighborhood life.

You know -- UC -- this coming down the -- and going to try to -- issue that -- and I get -- that would -- film festival again that's going to screen on August 4 -- 8 PM and we should stay -- issue where got -- deal with the distributor company to see if it is allowed -- are allowed to release any any story that too -- as you -- creates presents this slice of life -- has a Boston town -- has -- Boston -- tournament how the -- would be fools to stay away from it and I'm -- is appreciates the account which I I wanted to make sure that I reminded the audience again Michael O'Malley is involved in this he plays a priest he has been great here and I KO for the Boston and New England community so generous with -- time never forgot his roots as they set -- right at the outset. And I TSA that I -- Dave McLaughlin from west track stories of Boston get through -- through Dave McLaughlin is going to become a name on the scene in you're really into. In a way that would wealth -- at moments like this and say hey we knew Dave McLaughlin -- is just when they were. You know young kids that now before they really became famous and that took over the west coast as well as the east coast -- been great to have the reference for a minute is good to see you again thanks to our -- that -- that would -- film festival Saturday August -- get down -- Michael -- let's -- rod -- wall Bergen everybody in on Broadway a story made in Boston about Boston in life. Back in a moment with -- your calls on AM 680 WR KO
