One of the bright spots in the US economy because it to get housing and you've got automobile sales. We're joined by masks SARS Scott do is that the president of the Massachusetts state auto dealers association Scott Harry don't today. I'm doing great -- So what's the deal are we are we selling more cars in 2012 then we did in 2011. Yes the answer is yes we are on more cars. In 2012. And we didn't -- eleven and back numbers we can -- get a where. Not that -- despite despite you know the last week of the month sort of being. Under the under the Specter of hurricane -- we thought they all rise. 7% year over year. 7% so you compare. October to October 12 to October 11 and you got -- a 7% bump. That's right why. I think I think -- big question is why it left but it won the previous my -- at 11%. Well why is it up the air with what's going on why are we increasing our sales of the wires auto sales going up a week get a hold his credit available there people in a lot of -- with motivating. All those things -- -- what we're seeing an outreach thing and that demand meaning that. People have been drive in the same vehicle were too long. The average age of the fleet now of course eleven year that you'll look to double ban. And didn't he contracted -- Not one reason credit and also I've begun -- -- -- very rapidly and is sort of ballooned sort of exhale and not let me the backdrop I think it would limit the auto business wasn't so bad in the first but we didn't get hurt that badly mortgages that the problem so. They're outgoing -- back into the garbage in either in the race. Now I saw 7% uptick that you really only law she didn't lose a week -- Turkey lost three days and those numbers right. Well that's true -- you know. Was think about retail is an especially big big ticket item retail is people don't make the decision on the same day normally. I felt what -- into it and where credit our treatment very large -- market and when when others start to happen is these several days in advance of the storm. Media of course is alerting people -- -- the coming people are starting bunkered down much more than just they didn't start Monday it started on Friday. Scott I did watch in the -- coverage all week I've seen hundreds if not thousands of cars that were under water and seemingly trashed how many cars. Word destroyed by sandy. You know I don't know the answer that apparently it's gonna be a lot and that's -- I don't think I want to mention here this morning is that people need to be very cautious. Go forward on buying. Used cars they wanna make sure of getting a vehicle history report. And they wanna make sure they're buying from reputable source because there's going to be a flood damage hardly see that after every major event. Katrina being one of them but every major flooding event is currently come back into the stream of commerce -- should not be there. Why let what happens to a vehicle in other -- that we we I envision it under water. Is -- permanent damage done to that vehicle because it's underwater. They're certainly can be on -- computer always has but there's certainly can't be you know cars are very complex but it very. There's lots electronics and lots of water a mile of water and are and want etiquette we will follow up on. You're you're pretty much finished up. How -- people really wanna peacock is looking -- our current buying reputable people. Now Scott -- dad has the Toyota dealership up in New Hampshire ranked. Right -- fort bend over to -- And you've got what the Hyundai in now Wakefield is Eric. And we have one we have Hyundai down and now Wilmington just. -- -- so why why is Chrysler. Having better gains than -- which you have a dealership for in General Motors I you don't have a GM dealership but Chrysler's numbers were up 10%. You're every year where is. Ford was flat and GM was up 5% what's going on with the Americans. Well I think what. Happening you know the price and I'm a little bit hard to keep up but I do know. I don't have the information per October yet but I do -- previous -- they -- very large numbers aren't going to flee. Being out rental -- but sometimes distort the numbers of but I can't picture that's what occurred there but. They -- and also they're number two away worst previous years you do -- a couple of years they've really been in trouble. About Nissan they're down 3% what's going on with -- they have a problem. Well I think you know there there are retooling there there are roughly they've they've got moldaschi publicly -- -- new product and I think -- beat them. -- come -- they're they're player but Sarah that -- you know articulate their -- with the current it'll open you know people are people are look -- -- -- -- exchange comic chain. -- Now your -- had this Toyota dealership for how many years. Forty it they mean toyotas Killen everybody Europe's 60%. Can anybody catch Toyota. I think you know just like. Any other big company in a vertical yeah it's really difficult when market share. You don't -- think they're doing. Right now is recapturing market share and they're not taking no for an -- -- when it comes to recapturing what they what they already had. Sorted -- and they're gonna fight very aggressively to get a market check back. I think there's going to be the good news is that there's going to be plenty of current business or all of -- franchises that want to. Bring great product to market beat the business is gonna continue to grow over the next couple gets all the reasons we are in Iraq. And there's a lot of exciting -- coming down in the down the road in terms Prada. Is your -- Sony and selling any of the the Prius plug in hybrids for those moving at all. You know why unions and I think that you know we haven't gotten that many so I think although we've got but we haven't. We haven't seen a tremendous number of them I I have you gotten yours -- No neither I'm waiting for your dad called me I said call me when he went forming in. That's I'm I'm I'm actually yeah little dispute tell bill on the little ticked -- When -- -- I hope economies up right now Michael Melissa and yet but don't look good after that afternoon and make sure get it down there.
