Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) On The Election and Independent Candidates

Joining us now is senator Rand Paul for Kentucky he is the son of Ron Paul -- Republican candidate for president congressman from Texas. And -- senate senator Paul thanks for being with us here on our car show. Yeah was let's get let's get right to it you know they're that your New Hampshire today right and you know -- you know you've seen the polls 2% of the electorate in New Hampshire according to a rough fairly reputable polls there. Are are gonna are thinking about voting for a Geary Johnson the former governor of New Mexico's running as a libertarian and and of course a lot of these people are rough. Are people who voted for your father in the primary and they they love your father. And who want -- you know they don't they don't believe me when I say that there you know they should be voting for Romney -- that you make the pitches -- -- Paulson us on. You know I've been part of the third party they admit I was secure that I. Gathered signatures in parking lots open Massachusetts actually to get my dad on the ballot as a libertarian. But it is somewhat of a thankless task they don't let you in the presidential debates and as a consequence if you're not always very -- you get a very small number of votes. But in a very close election that may allow the worst candidates actually win in this case having no question the President Obama if bureau of liberty loving libertarian that. President Obama is worse -- president Romney. Or governor Romney governor Romney may not be the perfect libertarian. But with regard to business and free markets and free trade which -- libertarian ideas governor Romney and billion times better than President Obama. Cannot make the judgment that I think I can influence his policies from the senate as another Republican. In the sense that I have a much better chance -- governor Romney and I think think the economy as much better chance and they do -- President Obama. And with regard to Gary Johnson is just not gonna happen. Why are they why your your father supporter so so was so better I mean in a way it's a compliment them that they have this so loyalty but yet on -- All of bitterness I wouldn't call bitterness call it disappointment and you -- that some of the same disappointment in most people who watched politics. You elect me what you like one side vs the other encouraged -- disappointed I mean. Look at the bush years we controlled but -- in the senate the deficit doubled under George Bush. And so nothing really seemed to get better he added Medicare part. Many Republicans -- conservative -- myself included. We still believe in 1980 platform that Reagan brought in which was to get rid of the Department of Education. To see how people get disappointed beaten down over time and they say. You know screw it there isn't much difference. But I think in this race there is it is different and people will be disappointed myself I've already made some complaints about I don't want to get involved in the war in Syria. And I -- less. We all I am now I think but it's it's just like it's a terrible mass we don't need to get involvement. Yeah but but at the same time while I will have some disagreements with governor Romney I don't agree with President Obama only. And President Obama I think is also taking this -- worse without congressional authority in Libya. I've spoken with governor Romney on the issue war. And I think that he can be persuaded that we should have been hit the constitution we should only go to war we have to and when congress approves of it. But there will be some -- moments of disagreement between myself and governor Romney. But right now I'm fearful of what happens in the country if we have four more years of President Obama because I think he's taking so -- the wrong direction. That will want to point B at the point where where were present Obama is recommending nationalization. Of industry by the end of another four terms not here. I'm -- for how is your father doing -- he is he gonna go on the campaign trail for met. No but Teddy doing great so I get -- says universe you're talking speaking of college is he draws -- by the thousands when he goes out speaks. But no he schemes given is saying message. We -- reform -- monetary system after take care of the deficit we have to make government smaller and more relief for the individual it's very popular. Yup here's one from a text or from 1978 area -- how we -- to encourage people to vote for the person they want verses the lesser of two evils. I'll let you -- to that question senator Rand Paul. They argument you know that's your argument you've got to face there isn't a perfect argument port other than. When you look at the differences between the two main candidates which is one of the two will win. -- I think there's a distinct difference I mean we have a president who currently. Is trying to put one industry in particular completely out of business that's -- coal industry we have a president -- is millions of dollars in loans. To this campaign contributors -- of the Kennedy family got one point eight billion dollars for a company called bright source. And the funny thing about it is they had thirteen million in gross revenues and got a one point eight billion dollar loan. And guess who approved it somebody in the Department of Energy used to work for the Kennedy vantage. Are right and they had an investor secretary Chu says he doesn't he it's not his job to lower gasoline prices he doesn't care he doesn't care how high gasoline prices go as -- as the person as the questioner pointed out at Hofstra the other night. And the thing is is that the difference between President Obama and governor Romney is to present Obama really thinks you can hire more government workers that will help the economy is that anybody with any common sense that some escapade for the government.
