Voter ID Comes To New Hampshire!

The New Hampshire voter ID law has been approved by the US Justice Department congratulations speaker O'Brien. Thank you Ali it is a great day for New Hampshire. Will now how come how come this -- your your bill your run your new laws okay but the Texas laws motto what's the difference. Well I did the difference says that the all of the Department of Justice can hardly make out an argument against to voter integrity and in answer. They just done. These debates there isn't the basis of doing it you can try to make out in taxes. Oh you mean the racial lie aspects of supposedly supposedly. Discrimination. Poll tax history etc. etc. Well Aaron and anomalous situation when the law was put in place back in 1964 of the past elections showed that because. Sounds snowstorms. By district. -- voted you know one was taken grant which says to voters again. Both of them did shall persons -- and so it is it an anomaly that weren't good but hey look at. Howard I have -- it's great to talk in Massachusetts station about this answer voter ID law that I have a message to Massachusetts Democrat voters. And that's that they can come up to -- have -- take a low -- cigarettes and you can take a look it you know they'll tax products filling up the paper balls. They can no longer take our vote you need to pay for our franchise is going to be protected. Always that way you know I was -- war I was gonna ask you if you thought that that had been going on whether these were just apocryphal stories about you know bussing people up from from new -- Massachusetts to vote New Hampshire obviously you think you think this be they art apocryphal stories are. They are not you know we have we have every election we hear instances where buses drive around term they. Where the universe in New Hampshire is located picking up out of state college students would signs of the buses sane freeze. And they explained how they have to go in there and claim that they now dom with salaries and answer and vote even though they were about where. Now they're gonna have to show an ID. And together with other changes we have taken up by -- realized it's going to be clear that you should -- -- -- to vote him and revolutionary. Right what I mean I've kidded governor Sununu in the past I mean I think you know bill Galvin the secretary of state down here but you know we ease a Democrat we we have until. Until just now we've had tough Perot voter roe voter laws than the stated New Hampshire press. What you are aware of where is seen interviews. Younger people who say you know -- I live in California remember one interview but my vote is gonna have more impact here. In New Hampshire well your vote should have an impact where you live and and it's these live reforms several voting laws that is going to produce that. There's going to be two phases of the law come into effect the first phase of the two people are primary -- next week in -- general election. In November. That you you have to have a government issued identification but if you don't you compile an affidavit explaining who you war. And that'll be so verify. When we get into this second -- -- 2013. At that point you again have to show government issued ID. And if you don't have -- you can against sign an affidavit that at that point the picture is going to be taken and it will be put we hear. Affidavit. And at that point feet. Election official will have a photo ideals you. Well this shows like this sounds like it's going to be. Close to the toughest in the country and it. Now none at all you know I look at the Indiana law how is that these Supreme Court. Approved and there we have provisional bad ballots that a voter who didn't have to as didn't have an idea of follow up by going to -- Counties he'd been providing identification to nature of the bells sounded. We're not gonna have that oh we want all legitimate answer voters to come and we don't want putting obstacles in the way we want to make sure we know who they are. -- you're Republican obviously you're the speaker of the house so there are you gonna have are there is the Republican Party in New Hampshire gonna have poll watchers enough places like -- college town or some of the border communities. I absolutely we we each of the candidates have on all watches that we've parties going. Folks out there. While watching you know we have we have great election official appear in in New Hampshire and has not talked to them and that moved up -- masters -- almost thirty years ago. They have always been uncomfortable with people just walking up to them giving them a name and claiming a ballot. We we are on this past presidential primary. Wears them out of state individuals came and mentioning names that recently deceased voters -- and were offered now. It shouldn't. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Absolutely and we saw that happen in other states than in New Hampshire just as those other jurisdictions were obviously embarrassed by that was a demonstration of the need for the reform that we thereafter passed in the house. And we feel real fortunate that but once the Obama administration isn't standing labeled reforms and. Now the governor went Joseph veto this and you have to override it or did he sign it. No governor Owens did veto this and we vehicles. 88% of the new laws in New Hampshire that has absolute terms. Came into effect without -- signature. He he vetoed this this is because this was some sort I mean he he knows the stories as well as you or I go about these buses going around -- in the southern part of the state. As rationale was just step parity in the line he's here nationally that somehow this is going to be an obstacle proved.
