The 2012 Republican National convention is nearly “built,” with the Opening Day lineup set and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie anchoring the event as the keynote speaker. Now comes a few bells and whistles. The four-day event in Tampa that begins Monday will offer speeches from a mix of well-established and rising Republican stars, but much of the anticipation is focused on Christie, said to be working on a “very direct” script for Tuesday night that delivers “hard truths” about the state of the country. Avi discusses the convention, as well as continuing the conversation on Todd Akin's comments.

Welcome back this is not Nelson into our number two on the program. Can help you drive there's no phone numbers tape 774694322. Pills already damn hole really well. Subjects he got the convention coming up the comments by -- they can't. We've got the death of Neil Armstrong. And in so early wanna go with dishes. Is fine how that's interesting -- -- something -- see the lines here it's confused drive. Analyst -- annoying thing -- give this topic straight right we do in more than one on the table. So back to the lines junior next in the program thanks for holding through the news. But short center out of Vietnam first day. Just start referring to that news with Neil Armstrong's passed away and actually bad what do what a pioneer. Made a mistake yeah it's pretty. -- -- -- like maybe we take it for granted now but. But how amazing and I am too young agent to be remembered but how amusing that must have been for the first -- that this is something like that. Well why not I'm not too young and we do we did talk about and I remember staying up blade. Because the landing on the moon the shift. Nowadays they would time it's a -- make -- clock news. But back -- they they'll landed on the moon whenever they got there friend and it was about I don't know 2 o'clock in the morning or some 3 o'clock and remember. But I remember staying up Ford and he and you know the whole world held its breath and then they put the camera out seizure could seat mile long showing actually do send. Trombone. The in the -- national down to the surface of the end of the moon there was just. It was just remarkable audio on this hard to convey. What it was like now we gun a little -- to troops to stationed but that was the first Israel there where -- -- -- -- -- -- Your your right to -- think it was remarkable it watched. Well that's yes that's what my parents felt. -- me but done. Yeah but I just shows us one more side by Jim elegy. I I was over at the girlfriend's apartment at the time. And she couldn't stairway she fellow slap shot so here is can -- great events in history and slept through it. Well I'm sure you recorded on your DVR. -- the expedite that. But I -- -- -- what also mention other lovely comment on the you know where you exported and I'm you know liberal. Democratic think -- -- mean that was. It clearly. It's just you know at the moment you love to make a joke it and truthfully I mean I think it's here. I don't see why the outrage either way you know if if you're Democrat and I would I would be happy if people if -- started talking about things like that because. It would think it might think has not you know. As a little prettier then then you basically show. You know it but I think I think he -- -- harmlessly but you know I politically divided energy it. Well good for you as a liberal Democrat not to. -- cheers and that's run well I mean. Yeah of course once it was a joke and occasionally Obama makes jokes and and only we shouldn't have come so far in the campaign that nobody can -- make you jump. Very also I mean I think ball birther thing did pretty. Not not just you know disprove it doubles forgotten about and it at least as far as I know I don't. I think it's a big deal these stated I don't think they're people or at least many could seriously. Think that you know there's something. You know really of knowing I was Obama's presidency. Maybe there are an album they don't talk about it much more and I -- I'm you know again as a as a Democrat I'm more worried about. Just the election in general I think that it's obviously coming down the wire it's gonna come down to those few. -- Florida Ohio and Virginia I get to it you know it's kind of talked up at this point and you know we'll see what happens I don't know what makes people. You know still undecided at this point. Let's try. That tried it is interesting Jim has moved them both candidates salute your drum figures are roughly 45%. And the S and the election will be determined. By the 10% of the people who hitherto have been vulnerable to make up their minds. People like you and me. You and -- are opposites sides of the conclusions that we can't do. But they -- -- difference between the candidacies between the individuals between the philosophies. That they -- It's hard to understand how people haven't been able to choose. And in a way it's a little scary that the people who hadn't been able think you're not yet know the ones who are good to determine who the next president well -- and they show. Edit also remind you know it that the agents saying sort of his all the little bit mad. You know from what I thought I didn't pay attention it -- that there ever been so you know a week ago. But you know suddenly makes -- and now. You know that apparently was in the lead in the polls before now is down ten points. Missouri has stayed work for Romney in the polls now it's a tossup. Right so somehow. That comment. You know has shifted things state wide area and to me. It seems -- think I know he's been covered in water and just stay on despite everyone telling them to do the opposite but it seems like he hit. He's got to get out either or it just blows over some outlet. I don't know it seems like you see what what what if you really proving it by by eight remaining very get through the principal or I'm. Now there's another thing to and that is approving any ego you know guys showed they 65 years all there anymore or give up on it. Okay Jim thanks a lot for -- sanction. He wanted to focus once more on the time Aiken thing he doesn't think he said meaning that there was so bad. I think that's part of the problem as I said I've heard him speak after that and he's not particularly articulate. He's not good at being able to defend or two -- tried to court to. Somehow respond. To his remarks and the aftermath of those remark since that's not helping either he used poor language. Finish in the comment. Said something that is utterly absurd namely that there be if it's a recalled legitimate -- he -- a real forcible rape. That's -- a woman's body can can shut down the pregnancy that she assured. Andy eyes -- there are some marched that are so bad politically that they force withdrawal or should. What I find interesting here is that the people are not voting not supporting Romney as much as before. And Romney dish about the comments have thought he should withdraw hasn't changed his position on any of this why would somebody. Say well I don't like what they -- said and so I'm not gonna vote for him I'm not gonna vote for on me. -- doesn't make a lot essential you can sort of understand. How they you get you get. Criticized. -- condemn me for being somehow associated with -- that is in the same political party. That may yet calm down and change people -- sense to -- Aiken said I'm not it's not clear to me. That Missouri will go for the Democrats in the presidential where it goes senatorial -- Well that that at this point is anybody's guess is they -- if you were more articulate candidate. You can almost imagine that there's time for him to recover politically from it. But I don't know and incidentally speaking additional there is a gap between the Republican Party platform. Which says no exception. -- for abortion even in the case of rape and incest. That's what the Republican Party platforms says Mitt Romney's position is different. Mitt Romney does allow for an exception there I think both allow for -- indication of the threat to the health of the mother. This is not the first time there's been a gap between the candidates the presidential can they have a party in the party platform. That happens actually some regularity. And for those who -- example on the other side thought about it and then when Balkan check in 2004. The party plug there and then visited and told by the Democrats should. The Democrat party platform. Did not. Criticize. Or. Condemn the decision to have a war in Iraq. 82%. Of Democrats. Disagreed with that position but that's what the platform -- So so it's not unusual for there to be a gap between where some members of the party are and the party platform. It happens because the party is not monolithic. And the people who are part of the party even the activists are not monolith. And therefore you're going to have some disagreement. Putting was David Freedman. Made the comment that the maybe two people in the world who agree with each other -- everything but I'm not one of them. And that doesn't mean that you abandoned the party because you have a disagreement on some issues. Which he overall. Take on what the party stands for the conceptual whole lesson for the philosophy of the party. And there is certainly quite a difference between the party of Barack Obama and the party of Mitt Romney. 8774694322. -- -- phone number. If you'd like to join British give -- call. 01 last point no one make here with regard to. Neil Armstrong who's died today age 82. And then we'll go to these telephone lines. That the person in the action the pilot of the the lunar module. Or -- as the mission commander. The pilot. Was Buzz Aldrin I mentioned earlier that he was normal action figure out how to. How to rescue the -- when the switch was broken to get them off the moon. He's still life. And he also was 82 and there's an interest in side bar here. More of those things -- that the non story this story that doesn't have a Jewish concern. When knew these men went to the moon. That they would come back with some kind of weird disease. Where there was some strange bacteria we're never Arab or just. You know nobody ever being in space before and who knows what was gonna be from the radiation or just. Just from going there and it's significant that both those men. Have lived to be 82 now are Charlotte on deadly too all you easing two and still alive. But this issue is a non story nobody ever talks about this but he was speculated at the time. If bush does -- come back and died young he lived through the end. -- no lunar cause. They were there all sorts of speculation about the evils in the threats of space there are dangers in space that. He'll receive that these people love lives. For lives and beyond the expected lifespan. Okay 87746943. To choose the phone number Peter you're next on the program good afternoon. I have ever wondered about that shenanigans that are going on -- Convention. They've moved up Romney's nomination on Monday. Now I just heard -- say on the news that there's. Governor declares state of emergency which is basically martial law. What are they trying to do -- that that's not a coincidence it's not because they're gonna get this little thunderstorm coming through -- lies that. Well let us guys guys are oh yeah and first keep in mind then rich got the governor of Florida as a Republican. Shell I I don't think he's trying to sabotage any do you think the Obama administration. Can cut the dollar came incentive there just to do -- that they're -- I think there's something going on May -- what brought all of the current Xstrata down. There's so they sent our -- Well there. -- -- -- the nomination and the declared a bit of emergency so they can declare that bush declared on the law. Before as somebody takes -- -- well before somebody takes it seriously I was only kidding about -- Obama administration. Sending their heart can't. This -- -- -- state of emergency is not martial law it's not like the troops are coming in home people out of their homes number one. -- -- have groups throughout the convention. And I hope they do because really they may need some protection from some of the crazies out there but this is not because of Ron Paul -- -- world look Peter. -- drawing rim Mitt Romney won the nomination he got more delegates than anybody else in Mario knew what. They didn't. He's won the nomination because he's got more delegates. Well yeah but don't order yeah. Peter if you think that somehow Ron Paul. He's gonna carry the delegates even if lies or what -- Iguodala for because there's no hurricane coming. Hurricane well it's going to be the projection is just like Eric is several here who want. The -- let me understand this. What exactly do you think would happen let's say hi Jake disappears -- reverses course and goes to Venezuela. What what do you think is gonna happen in the convention the Ron Paul forces are going to be able to do watch. -- -- Well some of -- do I and I didn't know brown do you think do you think the Ron Paul in the end is gonna take the nominations and move. I have no idea why you should do it all. Yes you do you you don't really think that -- and get the nomination and I don't care they are world sounds like you do about it -- -- What's toy what do you. Barack been -- all within the Republican Democrat. What do you think they're doing I mean you run. Do you think do you think that Mitt Romney is on his way to getting the nomination. Did she do I don't play dumb with -- us. You do have an idea which way would you best. Part of I have got to get a good so what do you think they're doing that somehow -- to change that. Why do it about. It -- well Lois and I was young person. -- always done that was done by the way before they knew there was a stormy that was done some time ago and the reason is they want to get that out of the way. And then proceed -- with a speech is -- out a foregone conclusion used to be Peter. In the days gone by our decades gone by. That it was the last order of business and the reason was because when you went to a convention it really was up to the delegates. It was not a foregone conclusion as to who's going to win over the course of the last four decades. That's shifted away from the delegates to -- -- And we that a series of primaries -- now and the winner of those primaries has the delegates in hand -- that the nominating process now. Is is really almost an anachronism he really don't need it to go through the floor and call will -- the roll call. But the states and of the delegates announced how many. If they voted for candidate day in Helmand for -- nominee for -- That's a holdover from the days when it really did matter and nobody knew for sure. So they've figured they'd move this up front and get it out of the way. Now the irony is that if -- Niger -- It's likely be Monday the very day that they're trying to do the vote and then maybe some deluge you can't come to begin can't get into the convention. Because the storm now because of the storm troopers Peter because of the storm. And that's all -- there's nothing then no shenanigans going on -- there's no reason to make this the last day of the convention. It's no longer the climb actually used to -- Why Limbaugh -- convention anyway. Well it's a good question and then as I say. -- -- in the old days you really did make a difference because the most important thing bush nominated candidate. Now it becomes a showcase. For the candidacy. You get some prominent speech is you get coverage on the national networks finish -- to launch. You know and if you announce a candidacy -- if you order a run for some office of significance. The do you -- now she'll get coverage from the told nearly burned the congress senate. -- senate and you were real candidate you get covered that day. By the TV cameras as -- is short of an understanding. That that's your day in the sun how -- that they may not pay attention during strange thing here. There will be coverage because it's. Kind of the official launch of the campaign and you have a lot of luminaries and so okay we pay attention that day and it sets the general election go. But that's really what's going in the lead in days gone by go back to the sixties. And made me it meant something really had a convention because it was an aggregation people who were gonna decide the nominee of the party but that's. That's been eclipsed by the primary process. So they get -- serve. Establishment Republicans up there are a lot of people are convinced some liberals for them to tell them that they're gonna save the world and they're just gonna keep -- the same plant. Well all the candidates say they're gonna save the world including yours. -- -- -- 7746943. Due to look I understand you know establishment has some things that are negative and you get the -- some of that. And concerning Ron Paul. Had his -- had his opportunity it'll go all falling and I must say that his libertarian ideas appeal to a lot of people including me. And Summers sexual part company with them when he leaves the shore gives I think. His falling you know leaves a short -- the plan when he goes for foreign policy that's that's my opinion you know below other payment and that's why AL votes. The way democracy -- there -- -- whoever gets more emotion really nice guy wins any wind at all. You know he is 48% of the vote you don't -- 48% of the decision making which is a problem in democracy. You're look at Massachusetts. The congressional delegation. -- all Democrat. This stage is not all Democrat. This stay -- as you know a solid 40%. In Ohio and that's why you know we've been collected go there from time and time. Higher than usual percentage population is Republican. No Reagan carried this state twice and then they changed this time by the -- we -- a couple strong. Congressional candidates like it to say and then -- But the point is that you have all these people into effect disenfranchised. It's time after time Republicans lose sometimes you. Respectively close races so I'm 40% -- get 40% of the import. You know it happens in the marketplace service strings monopoly. We have to break it up but nobody Joshua break up the Democrats. Intel's stranglehold the Democrats have on the congressional delegation in Massachusetts do that. -- to pay some bills which is something also Democrats are not good at. Back on the other side I'm -- Nelson. Welcome back this is on the -- and and a number of text messages on fortune money and really get to the mall. -- -- -- I. A couple of them there -- some they've looked and it's true that Democrats looked into whether Romney was born in the United States because his family had been in Mexico. But there's never been serious question about that. Another. Female reminds us that -- text message reminded me yes Chappaquiddick. Kennedy going into Chappaquiddick happen at the same time. I think Chappaquiddick happen July 18 and they landed on the moon. July 20 this in 1969. And Kelly was really lucky -- what could not that story off the front page Chappaquiddick. The more landing than their four got less attention than ball and he would otherwise would have. And one other -- why you rushing this is the first and who manned landing on the moon the first. The first landing on the moon. One man was actually done by the Soviet Union ten years earlier. In 1959. They crashed. A some get some kind of rocket into the moon. That the time course it was a remarkable feat that they could even get something to the moon. Okay so those are the kinds of from side bar so objection that come up when we talk about these things. 8774694322. Is the phone number text message code 68680. Email address -- Nelson NW RKO dot com -- your next on the program out tonight I find banks. Great -- I wanted to talk about time they conduct can make a quick comment on the previous caller should. I hate to be Republican if that's the problem there really have would be Ron Paul blasts Alex Jones listeners. The Republican Convention is adopted twelve client -- the convention. Eleven out of those twelve warrants was developed by a group called freedom works which is -- Tea Party organization. So the Republican Party has taken eleven. Planks from the Tea Party. -- -- one of those points to the convention is stuck ought to just say it. Which is what Ron Paul goes berserk about. So I don't understand this constant conspiracy. Or this constant looking down he knows that Republicans set did not worthy enough for a libertarian votes. -- yeah you know what's going on them all right it's good point Allen and then there's a lot of libertarian element in the Republican Party including me and I suspect you. The problem is more the psychology of the people there are some people who she conspiracies all over. And there inclined. To find a conspiratorial. Motive whenever the least little thing doesn't go right. Thank you find them on both -- she get the people who think you know George Bush perpetrated 9/11. And you get the Ron Paul supporters who every time. Something doesn't go right well it's because the establishment forces. In the Republican Party have corrupted and subverted whoever's going -- it's more a matter. Of the the mental framework of the person making the charge. Then -- rational. Interpretation of the fact officially the people who think to this day that we never landed on the moon it was all staged an Arizona. Well yeah you prove that summer uniting approved this -- They'll apart from take him up on the next next flight out there. And then from Russia -- Vietnam War. It's time we try to stick -- -- party can. You know it was the gap granted okay. Joseph Biden. Even Charlie Rangel said it was one of the dumbest testing and said Joseph Biden the deficit. We're now you're shifting to the change comment. We just throw him out but I wanna just to -- with these guys are always saying. That's why I'm pro life but I don't wanna tell a woman what she can do with their body. Sorry now you already have. -- woman cannot be a prostitute. You party told the what you can and cannot do with her body. A woman cannot inject heroin into her visions you have already told a woman what you can and cannot do she cannot smoke crack. She cannot smoke pot. We have already part limitations. On what they woman can do with her body. But it seems so this just perfectly natural that if you want to take delightful for unborn child that we have no right to tell her what she can do with her body. Yes she applied correctly to the inconsistency. Of the position Allan thank you for. I would raise the question. Of what we're correct in those other things I mean should a woman be allowed to be prostitute -- -- have that right. To make that decision for -- force out. With regard to -- -- there we get to not just limit. Should men be able to -- heroin and one of the questions. On the ballot this time through. In Massachusetts. Faction they're two of interest here one is medical marijuana. We're gonna be able to vote on that in November -- -- programming on it. And the other days. Assisted suicide. Mean do you have a right to take your own life should you be able to have assistance in that regard talk about fundamental. Rights as the human beings alive human being that would be the most fundamental shall I raised the question is whether these restrictions that we have. On women. Whether those are correct. For the freedom should override those who will get to those no time I want to introduce another subject actually got a text message on this. But I was going to mention anyway. I was listening briefly what you're just couple pieces to Jeff cougars program initially was filling in for Howie Carr. And at one point he brought up that there's a Spanish company. That is going to count the presidential ballots. And the companies owned by George source. Mission in making the rounds. Joy did some checking. And resource I have here is Michelle Malkin -- them those are you familiar with Michelle Malkin -- She knows she is quite aggressive and outspoken. Conservative. And she she doesn't have any hesitation. About being caustic. And critical of the people on the other side. The most recent article I could find. Follow about the issues of may. Of this year may 2012 she Germany -- more recent than that fine. But do you talk about conspiracy theories and this is another -- this story is faults. Okay. There is a Spanish company. That specializes in which called electoral security technology installed Skype -- I assume that's how you pronounce it as she YTL. If you contact them home buyer who are involved. It is Spain based and that's what is specializes in an electronic voting applications. It's got nothing to do with George sure she. And you know there. Well there alarm Ers are out there saying that that. Its title by the way did acquire US based software company. That -- election management programs. Anyway always business about how. This going to be taken over by evil people then it doesn't matter how we vote because. They're gonna call for Obama is just completely false. So. Get all the here and this should this is one thing you don't have to worry about you can check yourself for yourself on this. And you'll find that this. This story -- and has nothing to worry about. And George Soros is not involved. As I say there are conspiracies and they fly around and with the Internet now. It's made these things a lot of leisure. To. Perpetrate -- and and perpetuate. I find I get annoyed by the way when people send me emails and -- get them from friends -- Who think that they're helping out and and they totally bogus. -- you know they may be on the good guy side to -- but I think we do our shelves more harm than good. When we circulate. Provocative. But false. Emails. You're not gonna convincing undecided it's. By sending around material. That is invalid. And as a matter of fact all you do is destroy your own credibility and knowing you have something that's real and true. Nobody will pay attention to the jail to form of -- wolf. You're not -- can surely -- convention the Obama supporters earlier this sign Allred. Now even preaching the choir and everybody has -- had spread another reason to hate Obama but if you really wanna do some -- Positive. -- -- win the election which means you wanna convincing undecided until the sides are not gonna be influenced. My stuff that's wrong. My answer is another story put it aside don't go around saying that this gonna steal the election. Because of the Spanish foreign it's owned by George Soros not true. 8774694322. Easy phone number Paul you -- an actual program good afternoon. God that you could be as serious probably told the whole country having people who are well informed. Voters. We have people that will -- that don't even -- it represents is. The shadow there is. That's obviously distribute. But what really bothers me is that I believe. The number one issue. That everybody hates to be well they wanna talk about it not. It is the maturity of the economy but what really trouble me. Is that if you're a person. Who actually thinks about what's going on what America. I believe the number one problem with this country and foreign policy. It's -- change it doesn't matter if they're Republicans that Paul are the Democrats. You look at this ten countries that we distribute billions of balls to each year. That basically explained why we're going bankrupt. Well far foreign aid isn't isn't that large of an item in the budget which is not to say that we don't spend billions -- -- a lot is misdirected. I don't know what I'm gonna -- -- us from bankruptcy. Even if we eliminated the foreign aid. Budget and our foreign policy leaves much to be desired I'm not sure. Can you share Republicans and Democrats -- a lot of -- foreign policy in the first you know it comes to mind is the Middle East. And then I think that Obama's policy there's been a failure mean Iran is on its way you're developing a nuclear weapon and he. Now he hasn't done. And I know we had sanctions but the end result as he's now been able to stop that. We do -- -- recently well actually how much money is going to Afghanistan and -- the last -- here. I don't think you lie. Gee you know -- periodically look at -- -- dissimilar 200 billion or something. Into Afghanistan I. I honestly don't supportive and if you take 200 billion dollars in -- -- money. Oh no I tortured double foreign aid. All right so like Mac segments for our daily can. My email we sent to Afghanistan to try to -- him into a democracy. Wanna know I have a dog among the entire cost in this in the US ever let its true well. I can't stand as the top problem and that's another area where -- It's not a tough probably issue did -- huge credibility -- -- total failure. It hasn't worked it's. Not going and you let me finish and I know because if you don't -- -- very -- not -- to the slightly it's not as prevalent and then this should -- hand I'm I'm not -- to talk like we don't believe Republicans on the -- have to take. Wish I want to. Well let me take it back to after 9/11 would you have done anything in Afghanistan. I wanted to go out the world cause. Well actually did that's what I'm all. Right that's a -- that's right and then he if you let me finish I was gonna say that the problem Obama. He has -- that is that he is not defined the mission we don't know we're doing there and we're getting. I'm a bush didn't define a mission either because we need none of us so we're making this decision knew anything about the end the I hated it and this terrorist war because they went to Pakistan do we give foreign aid to. So you -- all what most Americans I include myself -- ignorant so we don't even know how to fight terrorism when we ought to block out boarded. You -- think gloom. And we're not we're not gonna win -- I Iraq and Afghanistan democracy we can't really go to -- -- -- -- watch closely -- -- a little while loans sold would you do. Well I don't I would okay right now I would vote for anybody who would pull everybody -- You're -- -- -- and you would have gone into Afghanistan.
