This week rock center on NBC is doing a one hour special on the Mormon faith. You're gonna see profiles this weekend I'm sure a bit in the Washington Post and New York Times USA today. CNN is gonna be discussing Mormon is a mall weekend. In the lead up to the Republican Convention. They want to sabotage. The convention. It's gonna be Mormon -- All day all night all week. If you didn't know much about the Mormon faith about fear -- church of latter day saints. Fasten your seatbelts. You're gonna learn a hell -- over the next fortified base. So I -- I'm just curious. I mean do you enjoying mormons do you know anything about the Mormon faith. I meant. Catholic but I was raised in Washington DC so the answer is yes because I think that's the biggest group of mormons outside of the time and Washington DC they run them. They they stood out as being nice people put it that way we have a lot of nice neighbors and a lot of those from mormons. Mormons like professor Robert Miller are well aware that adding onto the Bible in this way can be very controversial. -- a saints love and adore the holy Bible we've announced. Yeah how about about it mormons I don't smoke mormons don't drink and as a debate about caffeine. And apparently a lot of mormons don't believe in caffeine. Because it was written in the book of Mormon that you shouldn't have hot liquids and so for many of. Hands if I can't wait for tomorrow night but we talked today about -- to think a lot of people do know that most mormons don't drink caffeine why. But we checked the Mormon scripture today well it doesn't actually say that word caffeine Joseph Smith. Specifically told his followers that for their health they should avoid alcohol tobacco and hot drinks which was later interpreted -- -- coffee and -- Technically that means that modern day mormons can drink cold caffeinated soda but a lot of very strict -- to stay away from sailing for -- -- They I don't have caffeine. They don't have -- either don't sit on their own drank it on smoke. They may not have coffee they may not have speed and even copying. So what is the implication here is so obvious. That mormonism. Is a cult. And it's not really Christian. And that it's a bizarre faith and that Mitt Romney doesn't really want to talk about it because he's kind of ashamed of it. Now. This is what I find remarkable. Is noticed throughout this entire interview. The implication is clear. That mormonism. And Romney's religious faith is obviously pivotal to understanding demand in fact. In the upcoming one hour special -- our mod four minutes like just an ABC news about a whole hour on NBC's Rock Center. The executive producer. Rome Hartman explicitly sets. That -- yes we -- to devote a whole hour to Mormon ism because. What we set out to do very broadly is not an hour on Mitt Romney but an hour about their religion that has played a very important role. In shaping who we is so all of a sudden now in this election campaign for Mitt Romney in the Republican candidate. And the Republican Party religion and his religious background is very crucial. It very important in shaping who -- it's. Written notice when it came to Barack Obama. And his affiliation with reverend Jeremiah Wright. And black liberation theology. He lived off government when he was a US senator as state senator from Illinois and now the president of the United States.
