Thu, 28 Jun 2012|
In a historic ruling from the Supreme Court they upheld Obamacare 6-3 because they say it is a tax and it is Constitutional. President Obama says it's a victory for America and Mitt Romney says he will repeal the law if he is elected President. Are you surprised that this ruling was upheld?

Well I don't know about that I'll actually it may change election. Well I think it will change election. And anyhow or no I think this as good for news from around -- really do yup. Because it it. It'll get ever -- like I'm pissed off right now even though I didn't expect that there were an -- return. I'm aggravated. Well who is inactive yeah so gets you more motivated C wanna go out that this could give the Tea Party whole new energy for example -- thank. I certainly hope so they should just people need to get enthusiastic because that part of the -- countries that we are so apathetic about these major changes in the way we -- People don't understand I think Tony and I completely agree and people don't know that back in 2008 that's not that long ago. Ted Kennedy. Went to congress with this sort of planned and president Barack Obama's direct well fact that. Back and what I was opposes this idea because my general attitude was that. You don't have health insurance it's not because they don't want it is because they can't afford it we'll what's changed politics. Well -- -- -- this wasn't his legislation you know the cup pass Iran calls it his health care bill but it's what the senate cobbled together. In order that they can jam something through so they threw whatever garbage they have to throw into the bureau of your sanity you want something they threw it in minority at the thing pass because they know. That after the senate passes its bill in congress passes the house passes it then you have to have a conference committee in iron out the differences saying you can think it's for all the crap out. When they got around to doing that. But they never got around to having a conference committee because Scott Brown got elected. And that meant the house just had to sign off on the piece of garbage that was passed by the senate and that line and that beyond that piece of garbage is now law of the land. The law of the land and is that I know you said not at all surprised. And I'm not surprised he's not stunt but a little stagger and take back that our personal freedoms are being stripped away from us and such. I I think an overwhelming fashion. And it seems like there's no real uprising in this country against the idea that right now you can be taxed or find if you don't have health care which is it which is really. An issue that affected me personally. And between jobs you know you have that six month period where. Hey it's 12100 dollars to get on -- mass health. Or you pay a mortgage which is going to be or face the 2000 dollar fine at the end of the year I mean I think this is gonna be historic for a lot of people out there right now. I have trouble imagining that you were ever actually out of work you have so many. Pans in the fire. -- -- they're all. You know part time freelance -- and there are a lot of people as -- riders earn sympathy but I I you know if you if you're with somebody who's in that situation in order for government to help you out. This enhances your ability your government can help you out because they'll they'll be subsidies for people on that position like you -- and. You would think so the first thought -- give -- my hand out and I don't expect the taxpayers to pick up the tab for my life. I'm hardworking individual I'll have been is instilled some sort of work ethic. And I don't wanna be part of the -- -- and what this does is make everybody eligible to get into the Ginn people. So anyway should we just break this down -- really knows what happens because they do you know where you watch one of the networks when this news broke. Real sent I was with what we want or you euros in the radio listening OK because on TV I was watching Fox News Channel. The Fox News Channel goes we have breaking news. The individual mandate has been ruled unconstitutional. And apparently CNN did the same thing and then. A minute later they're set so I I got mad I switched and I got excited I switch an hour to see the other coverage on what -- and and I -- went over to MSNBC and MSNBC. Was saying well we're waiting for the ruling to come down it's a tense day here in Washington bottle that. Like a minute and a half and they still there weren't and they brought somebody else saw -- and they were still talking about or waiting for the we're going to come down. Fox News was announcing. That the individual mandate had been overturned. Which was wrong CNN apparently was doing the same thing I'm told Casilla and as a whole. Opera or going on on the Blogosphere and on Twitter and stuff about CNN getting this wrong but what they did was that the opinion starts off on the commerce clause. And Justice Roberts writes under the commerce clause this is unconstitutional. So they read that everybody ran a -- on the air. But then the next part is an under the necessary and proper clause of the constitution. The individual mandate is unconstitutional. And then you have to get inside a little bit and then they say. Under the powers of taxation this is essentially attacks so we're gonna let it stand because of congress has the power to tax. For up according to supreme court for whatever the hell they want and you know -- what drives me crazy. That you talk about the loss of individual right the founders worked so hard. To make sure that we would never be in the situation or have this monstrosity of a federal government. And these guys just laid out that if if the Supreme Court blazed down it says fine whatever they wanna do is fine. And and that's what we're left but yeah we are now living in as center where I'm -- step away from a police state. When you consider all of the personal freedoms that are being taken from us stripped from us. With rulings like this in the in the Supreme Court diddly down and it's this isn't the only thing they've laid down not looking into some of the other issues but it. It what does this mean time what does this mean for us because everyone out there is saying okay well does -- mean my. Migrate to gonna -- what does this mean that I'm going to be forced. Or find what does it -- is it gonna be like the Mitt Romney claim we get fine tooth 2000 all of that you don't. By the health care from the government. You know you mean in terms of how it will work it's gonna take two more years to implement and will be required to. Have certain plans the plans will change based on what the federal government dictates. And people don't have it though if you're four Q you're between jobs and can't afford it Philby. Subsidies for elect are now in the state of Massachusetts it won't change that much from Massachusetts people. Rhode Island New Hampshire listeners they might see more of a difference but if you have health care. The the main difference you're gonna see I think is the two at tweaking of those as the federal government starts to rule from Washington. Right this thing the founders never wanted to have happen was the world coming from Washington. And that's work creating is as big monstrous federal government. That controls everything in our lives and that's what's gross about a two minute -- Justice Roberts twice in weeks with the liberals. -- you know like I said this morning on the -- that this is Saddam. This it is. The reason I don't think it's going to be overturned is because power takes care power don't you view it that way. I mean easy because you you know the police in the fire and the way the systems work. You know how people are right if you're in a position of power east cup for other people in power now. -- -- Beacon Hill. Lawmakers that we are. What they do is take care of one another more than. The taxpayer you know you have divorce attorney to a passing laws with the help of their friends at a ally and hip pocket you have insurance salesman -- a passing laws that in line their pockets. You know senators didn't -- senators. In that we have a one party system here in Massachusetts which makes this completely free -- that give senators can complete. Override the system and take care of one another and that's what we saw you with a sprinkle that's what I care -- I think Justice Roberts want to be viewed by history is. Is somebody who's not gonna upset the apple cart is not the Chief Justice who went against the will of the people. You know this -- I just -- swear when he you know I'm I'm having trouble trying to use proper language you're on the air but because it pisses me off so much. Yeah I don't think it's just about heating wanted to go against the will of the people he wanted to be heralded as a hero. He has the justice had made two -- got heralded through this. They think he's heroic and someone. But you know the conservatives would never vote this -- he's kind of an institutional missed the guy who says oh well if this is what the House of Representatives and the senate. I did and the president signed -- well we should leave the what the job is ours now it's at now in the hands of the political system. Eric Cantor is going he's announced he's gonna have a vote in the house on July ninth. To repeal obamacare that is where the political games command right they -- the American repeal or maybe the house will on the senate won't it's are gonna be repealed but. It gives them a chance charge up the troops so that's why I think this might be okay -- Well this political posturing -- is even more infuriating because you almost have to blame the Republicans the bad -- not getting the proper message out. But exactly how much the government is going to be intruding on allies. I don't think either side cares what actually happens as long as they get. Good. Tools used to help them win elections. Exactly this is although posturing yeah. They both sides now can pop out their chest and pretend to be fighting for as a matter what side of the aisle they're standing on that that you know beat their. I think that size and together. It ties it together that's that fashion icon right -- but it's good because -- -- -- -- afford to go anywhere but marshalls now. But yet another tax imposed upon us. You know the scary part of this ruling to me is that it doesn't change anything he keeps things moving in the wrong direction which is bigger government and more socialism. And more crushing debt. And how is going to affect doctors out there because those people have been allowed his opponents. Obamacare and they've been out in full force and luckily we won't be able to afford to run our businesses -- -- -- be able to afford to taken all these new clients these new patients. There's already. I dearth of the nurses and doctors in Massachusetts there it is -- shortages in many of the hospitals what does it mean for the for the medical industry. You know the easiest way to answer that question I think is imagine how we would feel if the radio industry is being taken over by the federal government. Yeah that's too he has -- line. I thought I don't -- -- -- market on that behind the scene I mean that's what everybody can do is everybody can plug it into their own career and say how would my business be you know if you work and I screamed shopper you own store something like that I mentioned the Fed program was taken over the industry. And was gonna issue all the decrees and and you know that eventually they're gonna go for the full socialist thing and you know everybody work for the government. How can you look at your industry and say while there's in the -- going to be a ton of upside for me if the government takes over that's what I think doctors are gone through. Is where is the incentive for greatness. Right people like to brag about our. Our -- our medical system and our city in terms of what it provides where is the money gonna come from for our great teaching hospitals. You think that it's still going to be flowing like crazy. Into our hospitals or will some powerful senator from Oklahoma make all the money go there. And in the questionnaire and I know it ties and the other ruling was made by the Supreme Court this week is right here in Massachusetts Suzanne. Who is a Democrat and many would argue liberal but she still went up there in the fortitude to look into how much money we are wasting on and that's helped plan. I'm people who are in the state illegally in the country illegally. And the number that she came up with was to Melanie. We can't do that to people the people who don't have health insurance don't have it because they don't want is for the can't afford it. But now it's like a complete flip -- years later and wanna comment while the flip. Don't forget that really you know Hillary Clinton was someone who campaigned for years ago for an individual mandate in president Obama's plan didn't have a mandate so that you know I'll. He'll take whatever side he needs to take in order to redistribute wealth and that's really what this thing is all about. How to take money from working people. And give it to people who can afford health. Now I know that you are great student of American history at last I was on those beautiful night in Boston. They get to use them over at the VA hospital for the tri care that he's benefiting from when the federal government controls the whole thing who's gonna make all the beautiful vibrant private sector -- inventions. To keep us having the best medical system in the world. Well that's the big question on the -- key key is tied Feinberg we are WRKO 6172666868. How does this gonna affect you -- you grateful like Garrick. Are you. Infuriated like Todd. That's the question we got you right here on hand succeeded having our camp. The respect to health care I'm actually continue to be confident -- history horrible hole. And the reason is because. In accordance where president out there it's constitutional. It's constitutional. How is not possible. It's constitutional. On the stomach -- we are and fixated on the RK out and it's gonna help. Are hurt Mitt Romney in the election 6172666868. The Supreme Court is so wrong nick he tells me and he's right. It is not attacks taxes are on incoming or purchases this is a requirement. To -- something. This is big government forcing you to buy something. And so how is gonna work because they did such a good job the federal government running the post office. At the post office is really broke. We'd empty buildings all of the commonwealth that the post opposite the federal government -- tax all the -- big bucks well. So if the federal government is going to -- obamacare as well as they run the United States -- office should we all be afraid. What do you think about the ruling 6172666868. Let's go to Michelle Michelle you are on. Up sorry Chris young and express go right ahead. I show thank sure I'd take my -- I I'm just -- it from a little historical perspective if you remember. And I this Black -- Massachusetts split he has the blame for everything that's happened. Because if you're back -- 2009. Went nuts when Ted left this earth. The Massachusetts legislator reversed an earlier decision appears earlier said it was OK to appoint. Eight replacement and of course they reported that it over the guy's name right now but he was seventy as a Democrat. And he was the sixtieth. I believe the sixtieth vote in the senate. That affirmed. That this this law would would essentially end up on the president's desk if they had not reversed an earlier in Massachusetts legislature reversed that. Early decision about this. Then you know we would have probably had mr. brown near a little bit earlier than wise and this this would never reached the presence that's in my humble opinion. What you think. Well I think it's Stephanie and have -- look at it we know now we are going to be stuck with this because they -- Roberts just acted as a trader. To the conservatives who who are really pounding on him for the second time this week currents. Oh no you know I fully understand what -- -- I would just bring from a historical perspective it's ironic that Massachusetts but one. It has the only. Acquittal and somewhat to Obama care that is now a bit of -- are approved -- What whatever you -- term by the Supreme Court. That state was the warned that a lot of this law. To be signed by the president because they just appointed a senator. -- -- Right exactly in I was a special election in in the ironing area I don't think it's getting past anybody -- Now with spyware -- stuck where that's at thank you Chris for the call Michelle you are next go right -- Michelle. That I think it's a bad -- a country I really ill bet. Government is just completely out of control and right. And moral. -- have recently recovered from major element I was diagnosed with breast cancer in October. And navigating through the health care of them was -- get a cup. And I can't imagine. It states that happened to me two years from now. What I would -- to go through. And it's a very valid question Michelle and I and -- start -- what you're going through and that's where I think is on the minds of many right now. Do you think Michelle and I think to chris' point. Do you think that it's ironic now that Rodney who gave us this health care plan a virgin -- at least right here in Massachusetts. Is now the guy who is going to repeal it if he gets elected. I mean I'm -- I say I won't be -- behind them FI cubic ironic. I. -- -- -- -- We're going to update and I am so I didn't know I had. Anybody. Cool who'll become ill and have to deal with me and I'll. Well that. -- the country right now. A K I don't care how my gosh. And that's the thing Michelle it's like look at we look at the he would -- bureaucracies that are already run by federal government as somewhat frightening. I mean it could even. Managed that cash for clunkers program appropriately. They ran out of money -- cash -- clockers remember when you're trying to get everybody get turned their old vehicles and buy brand new ones even if they could deploy them what does. How we got entity. Mortgage mess but I digress. They have the cash for clunkers program you know so mismanaged that every had a money. Within I think thirty gates -- at thirty daisy knowing -- and a post office workers said hey what about me at the post office has played the disaster. And you think about the other bureaucracies that -- spending money Willy Nilly you know the GSA. Administrator who went out on a big. T or what the Hedo took it to themselves citizenship mean it is not that we paid -- command -- -- what's happening now frank what do you think your next let me jump feet. Couple things Michelle you not I was completely into individual mandate but I am taking a positive view on it. I now will be able to sit in the state mandated doctor's office that the post in my private doctors not that. And I'll meet the -- in junkies that campaign fought so what do what better way to meet people but I am subsidizing that bought that down my throat. It is like in any of the free clinics that are popping up -- -- busted. An end so. I mean I do think this is better for Romney what the Obama DOT will painted that hey this is just the new version of what what. Romney proposed and -- it is not it's Billy even similar it is not. And well pretty clear Romney did pass laws that we had the individual mandate here and find they're not paying it is two grand. And frank that's a huge huge tax. I put it on Massachusetts who are underemployed and that's the number the people -- talk about frank under employed people who acting jobs and especially writers. Used to be you know we all thought that we -- working forever now has no place to be making money like that in the underemployed. Many of whom are and I hate industry but the media well there work into three does the giant health insurance and health -- -- to -- at -- I will say I would just say that. He's staying on the parents insurance. I'm sonic. WRKO. Coming happening noon hour we have congressman bill key Democrat. And we have. -- did say aspiring. Congressman Republican both joining us in the news now I'm Michelle McGee we at WRKO. Do you think it's appropriate and the threat of jail time for those who refuse to buy insurance. You know what I think is appropriate is that in the same way that every. But you have to get auto insurance if you don't you're subject to some penalty. In this situation you have the ability to buy insurance that's affordable. And choose not to do so forcing you -- me and everybody else to subsidize you. Thousand dollars hidden tax that families all across America are. Are burdened by because of the fact that people don't have health insurance. Welcome back Boston this is an atomic PBI and 680 -- RK out. I was against Elway went Ted Kennedy tried to push through. His version of Obama camp was Furyk no nine -- about the president. Well -- -- the penalty but not having health insurance was not attacks. -- between before the supreme collect that what attacks which is what enabled the Supreme Court. To saddle us with a obamacare. He. Acts but in the Supreme Court ruling if you read it. I'd Justice Roberts said on the reason that we can't enforce this is because it. At the federal government examples. The tradition to put a -- at issue. Just a currency welcome -- just credits the -- thing. And I think people the government and stood at glad to take -- that there's a big increase in checked. It. The patent and as it did didn't know that. I think this is gonna be something that Waxman EDT cart I doubt it there'd have to -- card Bob. We're gonna go live to Mitt Romney. It clear that we understand what the court did and did not do we have gone live -- right now did they -- say that obamacare does not violate the constitution. What they did not do was say that obamacare is good law. Or that's good policy. Obamacare was bad policy yesterday. It's bad policy today. Obamacare was bad law yesterday. It's bad law today. -- tell you why I say that. Obamacare raises taxes on the American people by approximately 500. Billion dollars. Obamacare cuts Medicare. Cuts Medicare. By approximately 500 billion dollars. And even with those cuts and tax increases. Obamacare adds trillions to our deficits and to our national debt. And pushes those obligations on to coming generations. Obamacare also means that for up to twenty million Americans they will lose the insurance they currently have the insurance that they. That they like and they want to keep. Obamacare is a job killer. Businesses across the country have been asked what the impact is of obamacare. Three quarters of those surveyed by the chamber of commerce said obamacare makes it less likely for them to hire people. And perhaps most troubling of all obamacare puts the federal government between you and your doctor. For all those reasons it's important for us to repeal and replace obamacare. What are some of the things -- we'll keep in place. And must be in place and a reform a real reform -- health care system. One we have to make sure that people who want to keep their current insurance will be able to do so. Having twenty million people up to that number of people lose the insurance they want to simply unacceptable. Number two got to make sure that those people who have preexisting conditions. -- that they will be able to be insured and they will not lose their insurance. We also have to assure that we do our very best to help each state in their effort to assure that every American has access. To affordable health care. And something that obamacare does not do that must be done in real reform. Is helping lower the cost of healthcare and health insurance it's become -- -- becoming prohibitively. Expensive. And so this is now time for the American people to make a choice. You can choose. What you want to have a larger and larger government more more intrusive in your life separating you and your doctor. What you're comfortable with more deficits. Higher debt that we pass under the coming generations. What are you willing to have the government put in place a plan that. Potentially causes you to losing ensures that July. Or whether instead you want to return to a time when the American people have their own choice and health care. Where consumers will be able to make their choices as to what kind of health insurance they want. This is a time the choice for the American people our mission is clear if we want to get rid of obamacare. We're gonna have to replace President Obama. My mission is to make sure we do exactly that that would return to the American people the privilege they've always had to live their lives in the way they feel most appropriate. We don't pass on the coming generations massive deficits and debt. We don't have a setting where jobs are lost. If we want good jobs at a bright economic future for ourselves and for our kids we must replace obamacare. That is my mission that is our work and I'm asking the people of America to join me. You don't want the course that President Obama has put us on if you want instead of course that the founders envisioned. They join me in this effort to help us help us defeat Obama care help us defeat the liberal agenda the makes government too big. Too intrusive and it's killing jobs across this great country. Thank you so much. That was Mitt Romney. In his reaction to the Supreme Court ruling today upholding obamacare. Now the big question I think it on everybody's mind is what is the difference between -- care. The health care initiative that was passed right here in Massachusetts and obamacare. And there -- eight differences but do you study MP -- gonna come back we'll get reaction from rigid to say who's running for congress against John Tierney. Any different Bill Keating congressman from the South Shore up Quincy. I'm a -- he wanted to hear from you 6172666868. That's 6172666. Day six it.
