Good afternoon the fearless music -- -- reduce their two circuits on Boston's fox station and succeed. WRKO. 6172666868. 6172666868. You can also text us at six C sixty. You also let me on Twitter at. Just -- -- that's GA RR ETT Quinn QUI and then all one word and just use the -- signed. Joining me in studio at this Christmas Eve is a lovely and talented mechanic -- she's a columnist for the Boston Herald hello McKenna how -- higher ironic there. And done. I did I I was hoping to make most of the show. About. Christmas but there we have to dive into some political talk for the first hour -- so. It's a big breaking news out of out of Virginia as our Rick Perry and Newt Gingrich did not make the ballot and that. Brings me to this week's -- a -- -- some late breaking news this morning that current Republican frontrunner former. Speaker of the house Newt Gingrich has failed to make the ballot in his home state of Virginia. Along also join that failed a group of people. Is Rick Perry the governor of Texas in fact only Ron Paul and Mitt Romney made the ballot there. Now this is a major failure for the current current front or how major. How can it be that Gingrich supposedly the smartest guy running for president in the history of this country. Failed to make the ballot all of that's easy -- you start making is taking his run seriously until we started to do well the polls. Gingrich's campaign much like Herman -- was modeled. Moore is a bookstore. Then as an actual presidential campaign this is a guy who pulled the Martha Coakley he went on vacation during his campaign for president he went on a cruise -- a couple weeks. To promote his movie and books. Now it's hard to listen to him talk about how he is more electable. Then Mitt Romney and taken seriously when he can't do this very basic things like get on the free -- ballot in his home state of Virginia. Yes I understand. Virginia is one of the hardest stage to get on the ballot. But if there is investigation. Shouldn't that have kept supposedly fringe candidate -- off the ballot. Gingrich can make -- all the excuses in the world about how the system is broken and it's unfair but they just don't pass the smell test. This is an embarrassing organizational failure for Newt Gingrich. His supporters should think twice before investing in him what their dollars and their votes as the latest. Not Mitt Romney candidate and that's this -- went along -- 617. 2666868. In Texas at 66 city. Yeah out -- Newt Gingrich failing to make the ballot in Virginia this is a major failure for the guy it. In all the irony to -- here is there's only two candidates on the ballot in Virginia now it's going to be Mitt Romney and Ron Paul. Everybody did make up some people didn't even try to get on the ballot McKenna. Well I mean you said he wanted to keep this about Christmas but I would say that's probably a pretty good prisons present and around their. So technically it's on theme. So I can ask a listeners out there how can it out why here from the Newt Gingrich supporters in particular. And and the Mitt Romney guys the Ron Paul guys on here from -- but particularly Gingrich supporters. How -- you still support this guy after this pathetic display of campaigning at 6172666068. This is a major failure for a guy who everybody praises as this. This in. Intelligent statesman -- this genius he has all these ideas he's the he's a thinker of the group yet. He can't. Accomplish a basic task of campaign. They get all about get all the -- about your home state. You know it's not like this guy doesn't have an inner doesn't know people in the town -- in the in the state I'm amazed by this. I I just it's it's about ten it's about 101000. 101000. 101000 signatures our required and die in this piece for Politico. Gingrich who lives in the Washington suburb Maclean had put in a last minute effort to get on the ballot. Paying contractors more than a buck fifty per signature collected a lot of money says deferred for signature gathering although there are professional petitioners they get paid -- To -- Gingrich submitted about 111000 signatures the party was required to review each one and to ensure that they had at least 101000. The at least 101000 reform ballot registered voters. Now Ron Paul and Mitt Romney submitted 151000. Signatures preempting the signature by -- maturity process. And the Republican Party Virginia basically told everybody to get 151000 we'll just let you and because that's enough. On. -- now Gingrich is blasting them rob. Rick Perry's glass in not I get it. That's just it's a tough state to get on the ballot at 6172666868. But. It's note this is this is go to and this is the -- big -- cancer run for president should have some competent people around Jim Wright mechanic. Well I think and -- Bernstein from over at the Phoenix said when year when you're running for president and you're just doing it to booster personal brand you might wanna make sure they -- not actually. Doing well and I think that's you know -- it just wasn't wasn't planning to actually succeed but you know I think that -- He's kept things interesting for us and I think if anything that's maybe why people are so continuing to support and think about how boring mysteries would have been -- from news is winning the whole time. -- -- Newt Gingrich issued a statement this morning on the situation in his home state of Virginia. Only fail and I quote only a failed system excludes four out of the six major case seeking access to the ballot. Voters deserve the right to vote for any top contender especially leading candidates. We will work with the Republican party for change to -- up pursue an aggressive writing campaign to make sure that all the voters of Virginia. Are able to vote for the candidate of their choice. Now at 6072666068. As far as I understand it's illegal to actually -- operating writing campaign for a primary ballot so -- -- you know Gingrich the man of flaws the man of of of the constitution in the manner of history in the elder statesman. It doesn't even understand the -- ballot laws and regulations in his home state. I have nothing to communicate is the kicker about this to his Republicans are always complaining about. Voter ID and same day registration and restrictions -- -- and now. Only two of them can get -- -- -- that's that's a that's a lock but. Ron Paul guy every thinks it's crazy made it out of our. Here's a look this guy is a question for you -- -- if you lived in Virginia who would you vote for who I vote for the fifth -- out of it should -- up. Why is there -- it comes at a march I think I'd else. I don't know I think I've probably it may be writing Gary Johnson I don't have to I I thought I find this amazing that each each each -- -- It just blows my mind that Newt Gingrich the Republican front runner could not get on the ballot especially with all the momentum and he was killing it in the polls was on state. -- pulls out of I think upwards of 40% -- I was a funny but he was doing real well real well. This Agassi at its finest yes. -- You know what are the other thing juniors this is brings have been a problem at all third party candidates have to deal with this is on the -- collect complained about for years. Virginia Oklahoma Indiana they've always been somewhat tougher. So let's toughest state stood to deal with. It's been a real. Now it's never been a real sexy issue ballot access is never got something people of cared about. All you whatever it's just it's just not. It's not sexy like yum fighting over abortion or health care -- it gay marriage it's just like getting in the ballot who ho hum. In Massachusetts it's not I don't think it's. Particular that are active for call. Especially if -- people -- Buhner if you're a status candidates differ for there's all sorts of different requirements for different offices and it's different down. Different. It's different there's different thresholds that you've put on a ballot question it's looking like it there's a formula space is really complicated. But I. Desist is this discredit him. Canada. I mean that's it if anything I mean it shows he doesn't care. And I think you know. People are choosing him as an alternative to Romney just because he has state stayed. There weren't ready -- to give an excuse he was the guy that they wanna try and president making for for Romney he's got to be psyched about this because it's just showing that. Gingrich isn't in this to win it because if he were he would not to let something like the -- and. But Disney gay -- -- here's a guy who actually wants to be -- he wants to be president's pretty clear -- but does he wanna work for a guy it's pretty clear to me that. Mitt Romney probably gets up every day books himself in the mirror -- he's driving doing -- -- Since he first ran for senate in 1994 different. -- -- -- president knew what he wants to work for a look at the amount of money he -- in the investments that though the -- freeze but you can't rush hasn't done that. Yeah now I mean. I -- maybe he had Gingrich -- say his downfall as his ego and you know this might be one of those circumstances where he thinks he can just. Coast yeah especially now with all of the and support he got that went to him after after king dropped out DT probably just looked at those numbers and thought since. This -- baby can tell the top one this is what. What does this say about what does disable the rest the field that. Ron he's always sort of held out Iran's point 5% of the vote and every couple weeks some researches and becomes not mean Robbie candidate as I mentioned in the -- a lock. But this is -- -- Newt Gingrich a guy who. I find it hard to believe any of the social conservatives in the Republican part they'll take this guy with -- -- third marriage for. I just I it's this amazing to me it really has. I got a piece here for -- Maggie. Maggie Haberman explains the whole problem here. I Gingrich campaign official prior -- to the move by the Republican party of Virginia said the problem is how old rules are set up arguing that the party is for apparently the first time. Cross checking addresses that signature -- givers gave against electronic voter database tracker -- A name without a proper address mattress toss the official side. What one needs to ask is what percentage of valid registered voters self identify current address that matches voter rolls. But the Voeller might not have updated since 2008 are you a 100% certain that your address. You and all your neighbors matches current voter rolls it's charging that this is not an accurate used to identify registered voters -- for any candidate not just English the official route. Now that that's one of the arguments as some people are gonna make is that he wasn't thrown off by. The state of Virginia he was thrown off by the Republican Party -- that's obviously is wholly different situation would be like guy in Massachusetts have some. If if the report if that the Democrats through you know through her brought us what he's operational throughout. Through through market through Elizabeth Warren off the democratic. Ticket just she didn't have there wasn't this -- be certified by Calvin. But some people are gonna clamor that this was the Virginia Republican Party leader Steve Steve will -- which meant the establishment. Getting in there trying to. -- while I I I find that hard to believe the guy just hasn't been a serious campaign there and and Newt Gingrich supporters and they're out there. 61726666. You also Texas is 686 C. There's got to be at least one Newt Gingrich supporter who wants to patriots -- now one person left out there who's the hot there is a shock people watching THX I. But I it's a huge blow for him but Rick Perry to. Make a ballot yet I -- hasn't even been. Conversation got a ton of money -- these guys think about seventy million I staying Gingrich doesn't have a lot cash. But that that blows my mind that he couldn't that did -- Rick Perry who's I think he's got some to Mikey race something like seventeen million dollars yeah he's going to on the ballot. -- In Virginia of all places that's a major a major stake there on Super Tuesday and I think they have something like 9090. Something delegates. Com those are going to be slip between Ron Paul repair -- -- that -- right now. It's. I mean you gotta think that people are gonna start. People are gonna start donor rounding out this plan I feel like ever and been having their fun and games trying to keep things interest staying at any time finally stand around I think even the anti Romney. People who are supporting the anti Ronnie tennis at this point have to realize that it's it's tough and -- -- But it it sets up to the fact if this happens is this continues to happen in other states Gingrich is starting missed the ballot in Missouri. Indiana's up in January gives him a little bit more time but that's still a difficult -- race to get on the ballot and a difficult loss state -- on the ballot. This puts him in him in other candidates in a precarious situation because. How many of these guys are actually structure -- prepared to go the distance and all in a long term campaign this isn't going to be. It's settled by the end of February this is gonna gul potentially all the way to the convention. Yeah I mean I can. I don't like I said I think this is you know just showing that that new it's not taking this seriously and I think ever you know rob he's gonna be just -- fighting himself thinking. That he's he's the only one who is you know. Ready and prepared to to take that make that long battle and I think young you think he's he showed up until this point you know that he's going to stick through and he's certainly had its fair share -- -- Not even a tiny towns and downs like bad music I ever got but. I mean he's doing or -- is just tees waiting it out and -- out try not getting -- you involved in the scuffle and and I think in the end he's the fact that he's like you said wakes up every day looks himself -- the -- incensed. This is admit that coming into this city's Irish Catholic hid out. This is if you're -- at the urging her supporter at 6172666060. Have you given up on the guy. I I. You know. I understand that guy is a supposedly intelligent guy he's a Dick. Why do going up against Barack Obama. Just strikes me as really that really got worse than that McCain -- McCain -- it just it just doesn't look good does it it would be it would -- it's like Nixon going up against. -- Kennedy yeah I mean this. The thing is funny is yet his argument for you being the smartest guy in government it's kinda reminds me about what people are saying about Obama. Really -- yeah I mean I think he -- say he's a Smart guy he you know he speaks well yes he knows he's a professor are he went to Harvard -- -- -- -- -- successful life and you know TCI he's Smart he's well spoken edited our our our -- and and I think that's kind of a similar similar I think it's -- -- to rob a similar argument that you don't we hear from people all -- it's a Smart and you know but I think in this case. Plan how far how far and how your hard and we think. People when they run for president is just an idea voice or had kicked around as there are number of people that don't the run for president but they don't run it. Seriously to actually win they don't run to actually become president. They run for president to raise her profile to sell books and look at Jon Huntsman to ask the intent that. They worry more about us I think he's serious though you don't think he's just running to raise -- he give up a sweet job he was -- in China. That's not that's a pretty high profile -- but dating maybe he's not running for our. 2012 -- he's around for 2060 boosting his profile for trying sixteen I think he actually ever thought he was going to be president a stammer and no thank. I think she thought I think she underestimated. The moderated. Moderate centrist tall portion of the size of the moderates centrists portion of the Republican electorate. And he's its fall and it's just fall flat he's fallen flat on his face. Although he is getting some traction New Hampshire if he can crack 10% or even second place in the second or third place New Hampshire that would be big coup for him. But. He he he sort of the Republican for people that don't like Republicans boy either Republican for Democrats he's probably yes I I hear from so many people. -- tour and more and you know just on the liberal side are you know more are no moderate Democrat senator -- saying. I -- you know Huntsman is the best. The best Republican welcomed the Republican Party is not paying attention to an -- It's because he doesn't you know he doesn't resonate that Jason. All right folks we take a quick break here when we come back we're gonna continue talking points while British shift over to Ron Paul and the than the never ending controversy hasn't these newsletters he wrote I years ago. -- these keep they came out 2008 and they're coming back to bite him and divide in the ass again the key. You think -- be prepared to deal with these but he just isn't so we get back Ron Paul. And his problem of the newsletters and and succeed WRKO. And we're back you're listening to move Gary -- radio circuits could. Christmas Eve edition. Email -- Christmas happy holidays. Kwanzaa Kwanzaa yeah. That's just just just less affected us for the rest of us this is -- this pole for something every minute because I drank fault. Are you wanna recognize I did marry a recent reads danger goes out. And Dodd-Frank frank Ryan. I'm behind a glass today frank thanks for coming out of the we are you working tomorrow frank. No sir no as anybody. I know baby's first Christmas to me you know myself I. That that other -- here's -- with -- is mechanic Kato of the Boston Herald. And our sort of talking says the -- -- race right now top big other big story this sort of rearing its head. That's 6172666860. Also text us 6868. The other big story that is from rearing its head this right around Christmas time are the the Ron Paul newsletters from the eighty's and ninety's come going all the way back then the stories this story first came out 2008. And is coming back now to really hurt Ron Paul. -- it it he was an interview he had a couple ACL with CNN. Gloria -- where he was talking about them. And sure got our hardest ought to talk about these anyway are took office -- fallen left this camera running -- looked real real that. And I say this is a guy who's who's fought to -- like a lot of his ideas I think he plays a I think it plays an important role on the Republican primary and the Republican the world the Republican politics because he's a libertarian running in the Republican Party. And the problem is. He's got this serious serious baggage McKenna from the all these newsletters -- you some pretty Yahoo!'s controversial vile stuff yes that. We're talking upper right wing militias. It's it's not talking of just he referred to Martin Luther King as a out bisexual had to file who. Like seduce underage girls and boys some sort of really really serious stuff here on it not just the traditional -- -- neo conservative. Conspiracy related new stuff ECB can't talk -- he goes for deeper and further urged the blatant stuff what he does it. Is he claims he has no memory of -- That how can it did he passed it the here's the thing took the bat around for a long time. How was he not prepare some sort of responsiveness is a you if you work in PR is this a catastrophic failure of of of of of his campaign -- out of his self not being prepared to answer these questions. Leo I mean first of all -- nobody's gonna. By the fact that he doesn't know when you run for office you have people do research on stuff that's out there in the world that. You've said you've done even like greed and there's no I'm there's just no way that that does not come up that's somehow at some point in these conversations when -- considering running for office. And pretty the most ridiculous thing -- Herman Cain was guilty of it too is he waiting when you're in this kind of situation to just pretend like it didn't happen to dismiss it -- They can know where it doesn't work it just keeps people coming now more questions and you know I I called the David Letterman approach we had that -- it's like. He just owned it said I made a mistake I screwed up that was an ever and for you know the next day back to normal and and and I think that's the thing the world the more you lie about it and try to cover it up and hope dig your hole does he asked Dave how people just brushed under the carpet no worse off you are. 6172666868. I got a broad Paul's feelings to address these newsletters have severe are going to severely -- bite and any gas in his presidential campaign this is an undeniable fact folks. 6172666868. That and the reason is he's up he's a front runner up he is he could win Iowa so he's got to deal with extra bigger scrutiny he's gonna come under. Heavier intense pressure from this from from the media but also. From his from me is from from these opponents in the race six -- 72666868. -- quotes from his from his newsletter. The political -- a decent system demands white integration while allowing blacks segregation. Blacks have black schools clubs neighborhoods the same is true Hispanics is human nation that tracks like this. He has the he has all these just really. Do some disturbing. Comments about commentaries. About race. About Jews. About the new world order and the yacht trilateral commission and that's serious conspiratorial stuff this is an. This isn't dumb. This isn't like this is bigger than Alex -- is -- Jones stuff for talking about here. I did the thing with pollen and you know it's kind of a content similar orders argument is that he's. We're -- Newt Gingrich and you know the role that he plays in this race is I don't think. Anyone necessarily expect him to be doing as well as he did they think he's in the race to represent a certain ideology so when it comes out and seal. You know how he actually applies that in his personal life and the reality of it people kind of what it down because. Daylight what he represents. At a high level as opposed you know does that make sense that's. Yeah I got as much about how he applied yeah and the data today it's it's what he represented in the race compared to the other candidate. 6172666860. Do you think Ron Paul's newsletters. And his inability to just deal to store your gonna cripple any chances -- hopes he has of making a bigger impact in the -- can. Not primary and yeah there is a chance that this guy could go the distance and disrupt things although I think everybody sort of -- the US select anointed Romney is the nominee but. Spot here's a mother who is just disturbing stuff from his side newsletter. Quote the federal homosexual cover up on aids my train as a physician -- speech she threw this one. Where the people and the largest bank of San Francisco succumb to political pressure and holds blood drives and gay cast your district I. This is just such bizarre and weird stuff. If you know I Jami curt shake of the island. The new republic I'm hoping to have him on on -- -- become a felony for Jeffrey and he's he's a guy really blew the lid off this story 2008. He he he's that baffled as to why libertarians. Don't care about these newsletters I I think and I see this as a libertarian. I actually care about these newsletters these -- big deal these really hurt somebody's credibility McKenna. I absolutely I mean this is just getting like you said it's it's be it's it's so. Twisted and just beyond the point it just you know if this isn't regular social conservative. Politics in conversation misses just out of totally out of left field now. We got our might from the -- line on the up yet are up next at -- on get with Derrek Lee and Nancy say WRKO go ahead Mike. They are able to -- America -- situated. You know I'm I was there and I agree with everything that you face. Obviously interacting. On the Republican side you know as someone that's got moderate Democrat. And I look at -- Newt Gingrich is these -- a fantastic genius. Aunt you know biting me nothing about about let's talk about -- not ever met in my life. And when I look at -- But the other guy the other a doctor I find him to -- if -- -- that it can't eat that right up there with Perry. Why ask you might what do you think or the of the word talk on the Ron Paul newsletters they ask and you are you you're say you're a Democrat are you thinking of voting in the Republican primary. -- know I'm I'm a Democrat you know rely on the blue collar construction. Are worker. I union guy and you know I I'm not a veteran and you don't. I'm hope I'm the American economic system back the only one if I was to vote for anybody if I don't -- I was some. Going the other way it would be hot thing but I think you're right out this set themselves up by the future because he's he's dead -- against the Republicans. Then there right now I'm not going to speak out President Obama. -- as you're saying earlier mechanic Huntsman sort of the Republican shirt for term Democrat president like him but I guess you rethink Ron Paul Mike. You know I live with Iran while and you know I -- -- billion this city had not seen my share of the everything there at the city. -- here aren't they should legalize heroin. I mean -- that there are very -- being hit a -- critical all of -- help people. I think I I think it will not have all the build -- and -- when I was a kid that's -- we are. Ineffective so when I'm here I'm a local Albanians educated -- -- so ridiculous. I mean he doesn't happen any place in the American system as far as being president -- you know whenever he's talking about it away. Out are Mike thanks for the call. 6172666060. Also Texas it's 6680. -- -- couple texts and hear how. For success and how did he not addressing he says he didn't write any disavows what is written. I I -- you know to to meet noticing that he doesn't know isn't this stuff was right. Credit for someone else's words. -- of this strong and that you're essentially saying you believe in you believe in what the out newsletters say if you're gonna let's -- your name to them -- or not. And are ready yourself so we're kind of get a high you know hide behind them I think it's a -- it's our fault. Disavow this could she sort always embraced -- your side of the right he's embracing John Birch Society he's embraced down. He's embraced Alex Jones he's embracing that he's never completely. Really distanced himself from the 9/11 truth there is she said I don't believe that that's hogwash that are property are -- Throes of a light -- keeps him going and yeah you gotta read Jamie critiques piece on this he talks about the of the libertarian problem with the with with with Ron Paul but our day why go who I had on earlier this week -- decide and I rescue mechanic is your NPR he -- this. So my question is do you if you got a big -- And now -- -- to be on us I I don't I I don't I don't. It doesn't appear to me that he he he's racist now but he does but that's not that the issue here is the issue is that this guy collect all the stuff. Get. Posted under his name which some of these just. Just horrible rhetoric can just pour and heat and -- the way he's handled it is a bit is is really troubling for a guy who's running to be present United States and you know why I think seriously wants to be present United States unlike some of these other guys and he's working for. And he's had and here's the other problems he's had years. To come up with the response to this and develop that. And and and to make this go away and yes just failed to do to sell its its like he doesn't. Joining me now -- talks and Chris has movies. The creative director at the brattle theatre Ned Hinkle. I'm doing pretty good that Merry Christmas -- is now I know com. I got up a list here the Chicago by the Chicago Tribune put out put out this list of top 45 Christmas Ruiz. And there's tons of them everywhere. Plano comedy guess you pro we have a much -- deeper knowledge of thought cinematic titles when it comes to Christmas in particular what's your take on this list they put. The top five were -- Christmas story at number one Dr. Seuss how the grinch stole Christmas at number two it's a wonderful life coming in a surprising number three. The Santa -- stuff coming in a before and miracle on 34 street coming in at five. You know I actually I can't argue that putting has its and that's. The version of the -- they have a -- number two is a 1966. Animated version with Boris Karloff. Voice in the grinch and I can't really argue with that being in the top five yeah but I think that the decisive within the clubs have to sort through mystified as the main event. That's Jim Allen version I believe the 1994 to announce on -- it Tim Allen must pay them off. To get this type -- -- him for what they what else and love actually in the top ten. You know people logo. And -- then than it is a lot of -- actually. I think for a new movie -- in my opinion would definitely rate higher than the Santa -- let's be careful. No more my complaint really isn't so much with -- with Al says it is a blog actually come in and attack and -- that I've been forced to watch a movie far too many times. I'm fairly confident that the female that yeah and -- actually clear. But our what are worsening your favorite Christmas movies that. You know it's funny -- I I sent you. I don't think equipment Soviet that are that are. And so literally about Christmas but but like Taiwan wants to feel like I actually. -- I heard Blake says that we really cannot recently so it's just bang bang there has represented junior Val Kilmer -- It's a neo know large -- crime movie but it's that very Christmas and LA. -- that kind of grade I am I really like it's a wonderful life I think it's probably the best. You know all around. Christmas -- because I feel like it does kind of have something for everybody at lake the Christmas story is great then I certainly -- that the Brazilian patent. But as. It is in the end of its kind of -- It's sort of a weird movie some people who don't get it says you know weird movie is an alcoholic -- so -- -- it but it's a wonderful it is -- a little -- And there's so those you know something not thought that's who has so little cynical about all kinds of these things put together. That's probably my favorite. What do you think there's a certain there's a bias towards older. Christmas sell homes mom sent they tend to be more than they -- there's I think there's this sort of nostalgia that -- Christmas. Yeah it's totally the nostalgia -- like. That's sort of why I'm surprised that something that you know. I mean 1994 guesses. Is that the public close to being a classic at this point -- -- I have no problem -- that with the currency weakness of Santa Claus so much is that. Of as the contents. Let's be serious if you if you wanna talk Christmas movies or talk in her favor to talk in the top ten list that was put up by the Chicago Tribune. Calls that. 6172666860. Council Texas is 68680. Now -- I'd love to hear were -- -- Christmas movies are out there. I've I've always been bias was I think die hard is is try my favorite Christmas to create -- -- -- sort of more of the the young. The movies where it's and as it plays a role but it is an ancillary rawhide I think die hard to music is actually in this in this thing to his -- to also takes place during Christmas and then. Die -- three I think takes place during fourth of July and die hard for the four has no holiday. Connection -- alternate but. I'm your server out there and do -- grounding the another probe that the brattle in the past is done -- some Christmas. Christmas so shown some Christmas movies -- that time it. Com they are nice guys always take the towards Christmas Eve officer open on Christmas Day why is that. Well mainly because -- so busy playing movies but nobody has a chance -- the shop for presents around here know. We have this big day out where. You know get. Can -- go shopping and that it is the tradition for and we believe that it has been running for fifty years. If you put -- into the movie theater and I think for at least half that time if not more. Christmas Eve hasn't closed yeah so. And that's just it's kind of what -- is the movies. But don't like people wanna go out on Christmas Day we find that like. You know after your done doing a presence -- and you know having dinner. Or whatever period to period of celebrating Christmas that you wanted to go out and do something and we up for the classic alternative do. You know he drove the -- into their. I cut nothing says Christmas -- Blake yeah extreme violence please take extreme violence and it used to be envisioned. Thought I but a curse this -- -- -- been opened Christmas caught at least I leeson's lawyers I've been alive it's always been -- I think words are the only things open on Christmas or Chinese restaurants and movie -- yeah I'm never I never understood that is that is how -- on a long tradition or is that just something that's been going on recently because you have. Movies opened our Christmas I think guy every last year this. The polar express which is a Christmas movie obviously but that opened on Christmas. Yeah that's included the big. I don't know which came first they get -- kind of a chicken and egg questions like I don't know whether big audiences. Or movies on Christmas. Is the reason -- present -- there -- open on Chris or if the fact that you know. Cinemas have traditionally been open on Christmas has caused this to be a big movie going day but it is huge moviegoing and that's why. A lot of big -- movies will open on Christmas I mean this year. It didn't really make sense because as group on -- Sunday so it doesn't quite work for an opening but usually if there's. A Thursday -- Tuesday hurt. A Wednesday or whatever they'll open. A big movie like they might evoke an attention movie on Christmas Day. If. -- 61726666. You were talking Christmas movies -- fanatically secretive -- director of the brattle theatre. I just run through this is file list here before you just -- siege has some ideas -- here. The top twenty at the top is a top 25 list dot 25 was Santa -- the movie came out 95. 44 is surprisingly low Tim Burton's the nightmare before Christmas. 23 doesn't unreleased the National Lampoon it's Christmas vacation starring Chevy Chase and anatomy -- without -- make my top spot and I have to set and another. Another low one Charlie Brown Christmas coming to 22 that's shown ad nauseam on all latest list of things she's the Chicago Tribune. I -- 22 point one holiday in. Topple other 94 to film when he they'll 2004 edition of the polar express ninth nineteen Christmas Carol. Number eighteen Dr. Seuss how the grinch stole Christmas that's the 2000 -- there was a Jim Carrey right with John -- the grinch. I think that I thought the movie was terrible on this nineteen sky number seventeen the Bill Murray classic Scrooge. Frosty the snowman at number sixteen Christmas in Connecticut. Which I don't know anything about. Com they came on and off to an advocate 1945. There were fourteen bad Santa starring Billy Bob Thornton. Thirteen home alone. Now that -- neck mechanic among we were -- that a Christmas movie but again it's it's it's it Chris Christmas as an ancillary in an ancillary role really get this about this kid run around his house and some Macaulay Culkin who wasn't that it was some. -- Joseph Pesci right yet what are. That's I actually think for me home alone is. A -- for a defining Christmas movie. Yeah I heard jingle bell rock on the way here and. Now -- number twelve we got The Bishop's Wife eleven Santa Claus is coming to town. Ten -- -- now on the top 1010 love actually the Hugh Grant and a bunch of other people that's apparently being remade as New Year's Eve this year. Com and nine is -- eight is the multi Christmas Carol seven white Christmas eight. The 1964 claiming -- Rudolph the red nose -- -- that is a classic in my opinion figuring five miracle on 34 street. There for the Santa -- number three it's a wonderful life number two. Doctor sees Telus crystal Christmas and number one a Christmas story that we re a Smart from. You'll shoot your eye out kid. But gave that one line is the reason why people like us this morning. I like or don't what are now I if you know in the brattle shown by this show on the it's a wonderful life this year but you guys are on Christmas Day we got Sean. I grip that they we have we're we're -- attribute to Ginger Rogers. -- -- -- -- -- -- On Christmas Day. Top -- and so again you have fun but we we usually do our Christmas that are celebration. Our holiday celebration before. Christmas Day that we we did we could just play it's a wonderful life we also have a series we've been doing for the -- cheers called all the expense. Which. Take some of these weirder. There. Holiday into the of them and give them the potential like we've played. I'm -- exports. This year which is. Finish movie about how how -- -- killer sense because. I thought the photos and listen to human. These guys are look at the guy archaeology archaeological dig and they find. The sitter creepy Santa Claus kind of things further let me take the -- to process them. Turned out there like a murderous monster in the -- the fifth at Santa Claus grew out of Sarah. -- Now as the brattle ever shown the on the classic scifi campus. Santa Claus conquers the martians. You know we have not that's -- thanks go out -- we may have played it is something that I am not that. That's a classic yes. We got ASI tweaks here Fran. From one of mine -- followers meg worries and she said the thin man is the best Christmas movie there is no I'm not familiar with Allen Muhammad you guys. All of the demands on my favorite movies is that. It's not Daschle -- -- novels the mystery but yet it's one of -- some would take place on encrypt. And and William Powell and Myrna -- great fantastic really. It's hilarious that is basically about this couple who are just. -- can socialists and and -- the husband. Nick Charles does it used to be a police detective and Turkey kind of get embroiled in the history of the label but I. Yes set on Christmas that the great it's a great movie. There's a whole bunch and appears that are fantastic. Now I have a confession I have to make here that might -- because I have never seen a Christmas story the whole extra. I I I've seen bits and pieces and I've seen at -- there's a part -- seem -- Does -- Christmas story remember where he he sticks this is tongue stuck to Paul yes okay and when I was a kid I steal I ski ski now I ski and as younger. And right as a kid I ever seen that part of that theater Nash tried to do that and ended up getting might -- on a chair left because they thought that would be wanted to try as I saw him do in the movie. On death real real highlight -- high value for the site trying to copy something out of that. But I'm. New thirty -- think is another. Not -- wanted it sort of gets shattered it Torre gets overshadowed by it's a wonderful life is that. -- forties Christmas movie. I but I've always it's not it doesn't it has a feel good story but it's not it doesn't have the firepower of Jimmy Stewart. I loved I -- miracle on 34 street during up to him personally over her we watch that a lot more than it's wonderful life maybe it's again the girl says. Girl as the key heroin we identified more that one yeah for sister but that. War is more of a -- actually. Despite the Christmas time -- So it's wonderful that it is actually more. Christmas say yes so that can't because but ironically. It was actually release sitting in May. I'm really -- -- was this summer movie essentially interest and 94 instead of Aaron. And everybody would have severe gift and then you always have the law through uncle who would bring the couple actions because it argue if you deadbeats -- would bring anything like me. And we -- numbers and this should take for this takes for ever this process so we we get all these numbers. You put them in the back and NA and had to pass around and everybody pulls amount. You number them through the number of people there are so -- that one through 31 through forty whenever. And it's the president who would get. The person who gets the it the way it works is. You draw number one you get to pick first but you also get to pick collapsed that was always the best want.
