What was Your Reaction to Presiden't Obama's Speech in Arizona

When President Obama took the podium at Wednesday night's memorial service in Tucson, Ariz., he was greeted with the unbridled excitement of a college campus embracing their commander in chief. Cheers and screams and hoots continued even after he asked for people to sit down. As he started his eulogy, with the somber words, "To the families of those we've lost," voices still cheered and at least three people shouted out, "We love you!" It was not the way most memorial services usually kick off. What did you think of the audience reaction to Obama's speech last night?

Who should be responsible for Clearing Snow from Sidewalks?
Audio
Wed, 12 Jan 2011
A recent ruling by the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court makes it easier for people injured on snow covered walkways to successfully sue those property owners who don’t clear snow from walking surfaces. Winter is here and so are slippery sidewalks, parking lots and walkways. Previously, Massachusetts courts have ruled that a property owner cannot be held liable if someone is injured walking on new or what courts have called “natural” snow. Instead, owners can be held liable if someone walks over the natural snow and then another person falls down while walking on the same area of snow, called “unnatural” snow by the courts.

Oh -- it's time for.
I am more than they convinced than ever that President Obama won't be running and his party won't take him out. Polls won't take him out I think Barack Obama will take himself out I don't think the guy wants. Don't get me wrong I'm sure he loves Air Force One a Marine One but this is more about the president's so saying one and -- the -- the world usually doesn't do.
I think that that -- people around the president have really misjudged what what what goes on elsewhere in the country other than Washington DC. I don't think this is true the president but I do think his people and his political people. They've -- guard last fence and got outside --

The great opportunity to -- new people the congress I mean if you happy of the way things are going on Washington. As inventories soared painting who grim picture for housing market. Home sales dropped a record each one needs seven point 2%. Inventories -- to twelve point five months that means their houses for on the market twelve point five months from eight point five months in June. Inventories are at their highest level in more than a decade. I mean -- if you think that's great you know that's fine you like 10% unemployment. And you think that we're doing the right things. On the economy and that people would go back to work and everything's going well. And you know Saint John Tierney accent Eddie Markey backs N dot -- and Jim McGovern vaccine Niki Tsongas back. But you don't half to this year you don't have to. This is a year that you're gonna have true riff -- candidates to vote for. And whenever I guess we don't we Barbara Anderson on the show we love having Barbara. I always say what's going on politically up your way and she just says. We have the best candidate with ever had for congress up here and he is great and somehow we got him off the campaign trail and had and join us today. -- good -- candidate for congress in the sixth district. I don't wanna say that John Tierney seat because we know it's not his seat Scott brown and it's let people see. And doubt that bill who -- running against John Tierney the longtime incumbent and Dow welcomes Charlie Manning so bill.
Well thanks for -- Charlie -- but humbled by what you throw out there the Barbara Anderson had to say but because she's a real trooper and I appreciate all the support she's been given me for the last stuff fourteen months of the race she's terrific distant she talked about the -- godmother of taxes in Massachusetts I I was. Taking the other day if you thought -- probably the most important person in. In our state over the let me a list of the ten most important people in our state over the last thirty years. Barbary Anderson would be right at the top of that list that's for sure well there's no question I mean she's a modern day. I hero or thirty years are up plus of fighting for taxpayers in trying to keep more money in people's pockets has been a passion in her life and I couldn't be more thrilled to be able to have some support for -- we try to take back. The country and do some of the things we need to do to get these jobs working again okay bill who -- you don't have a primary right well no I do oh you do I don't know that who's running against. Well there's a fellow loved by name of rob McCarthy who is on the ballot. And he is out there we have a primary exactly three weeks from today right -- too much about a nice good man he's also an attorney -- so Argus but I'll leave him to speak and another day about. His candidacy OK great we'll try to get him into before the primary. I tell us what your background now which grow up which go to school what are you do come to spite your -- give us the yacht. The bill who -- memo here well I mean people people out there in the sixth district pretty well know already that for fourteen months I've been out there running I'm -- A small business owner of an attorney and saw I guess so working in the district now for good 26 years since I have my own practice -- that other small businesses along the way but. Basically grew up very quickly I grew up in Ohio one of nine kids. Self made in every way never had to have my parent Ohio Cincinnati area so southern Ohio southern Ohio and then my passion and in high school was debating I was on the debate team was the Ohio State champion. In high school and our bicentennial year of in 1976. Which was a terrific time to do it got to speak at Riverfront Stadium in front of the big red machine 'cause I also won a contest the voice of democracy contest in those days. Just because I think it was just ever since fifth grade when I beat death sister Mary Robertson a debate in elementary school that kind of force might have to my hands so to speak as to when I was Catholic elementary school -- Catholic elementary school of public high school. During the desegregation days of the immigration days I should say in Cincinnati back in the early seventies when. It was time to start melding our country together and starting to. You know bring all the schools together. So I have a lot of very unpleasant experiences doing that in an area that was very. Multi racial -- it was terrific and I learned a lot about life. And I think as I. Continued on through high school and into my college days I went to college -- Seton hall university in New Jersey where I was the president the student body also on the debate team there you know view the first person of.
Ever met in my life who went to Seton Hall. I have never you know it's in the Big -- did have great basketball teams it's a great little Catholic college. And you're the first person I ever knew who went to Seton Hall lettuce.
Oh cool well I think it was it was an opportunity for me I had choices like could've gone to Georgetown I could've gone to Notre Dame. A lot of other schools with perhaps bigger names but. You know my in my attitude is -- always rather I would anyone wanna go to Georgetown I -- meant to when you go to Seton Hall I'd much rather go to Seton Hall -- Georgetown. A lot date Charlie best years your life in college in certainly that applied to what I did -- on New Jersey. That's great now and how about -- go well lost -- ended up here that's how I ended up here and I went to Boston College Law School graduate in 1983. This is where I met my bride Angela love in my life of 27 years now. I decided to settle here and -- raise a family I did do a short stint. In downtown New York working for big international shipping and aviation law firm. Just decided after a couple years that I think the small the small entrepreneur in me was not interest did in the big -- city life and I did work for short time and a big firm downtown Boston but then pretty much struck out on my own after that 1986 -- that's when you start building your own firm here I did yeah I mean I did obviously I I recognize that is. You know as a person who was not from here back in 1980 and 83 when I started. I started building relationships right away with. People in the sixth district of all places where right where I'm running for now you know small business owners people they care about their community got very active. In the Rotary Club and in the chamber of commerce. Then over the years you know did what I thought was important and right which is to also serve my community and we've raised collectively -- hundreds of thousands of dollars that we've given back to the community over the years and those are things that you know over the last since 1986 that's been my life as I have my kids my kids were growing up -- do you have the the boy and a girl. My son Tre yes 23 just graduated from college in North Carolina. He's a chemistry major my daughter is a junior at Washington and Lee university and Lexington Virginia. Her mission has always been to be a doctor. Whether that's something still in the cards now in light of what's going on in Washington or not we can we're talking about is a family but. You know will where we're we're gonna do great I'm very proud of my kids they worked very hard and.
And the great citizens like couldn't be happier to have them terrific 6172666868. If you wanna talk to bill who got the candidate for. Congress in the sixth district. When you start to get some text messages that 68681. Says. Go bill from CNN Woburn you must know and in -- And then in 603 area cool north the view. Liberals are just over educated under productive people living near existence on crazy -- fad. And their people. -- and they are people who just love to complain. Well a lot of people complaining now what are you hearing when you're -- campaigning people are really upset with the way things are going right.
Now warned that I think it's an upset is a word. I figure you're gonna see the gamut you have everything from concerned. Too upset to anger to hope to wish is. You know for fourteen months I've I've actually held about 26 town hall meetings just inviting people. To speak and I think. It's gone through an evolution over the last fourteen months I know when I got started last July -- actually June. But 2009. There was a lot of anger as you remember there was the whole issue with the health care bill and the public option. At that time it was mostly anger. And it was but it was a little bit unfocused because people just couldn't understand what was going on it and now as its continued to linger. What I think people are are is probably more frustrated. Than anything else frustrated -- the fact that. The government continues to pile on these bills and frustrated that no one's listening to them. I think that's probably the number one sentiment that I -- yet that's -- Scott Rasmussen says if you read you know his book and everything the polls to the great and not -- polls all over the country but. We love to have them on here really does is Massachusetts polls. And he said that that's what people think that the politicians in Washington chest aren't listening to them well I think that's Brett plays particularly well in the sixth district I mean. For people who may remember that far back last August more than a year ago. One of the first things that I tried to insist upon was this the congressman Tierney hold a town hall meeting and talk to people. And when he came out refusing to do that we put about 500 people in front of his his headquarters right in downtown Peabody. And the whole gist of it was was not about health care at all just come and talk to the folks because that's what people want and he steadfastly refused to do that's so. We went the next step in IE you know I went ahead and book the a grand ballroom at the I share -- croft input field of four hundreds of people in Somalia to do John show up and talk to people and he still refused and and since that point in time it's kind of made pretty clear to me. That I'm really on the right track here that we really have. But congressman in our district up -- northeast corner of the state does not listening why would you even. One of the congressmen if you're free to go wild and talk to the people that you're supposed to represent. Yeah I'd say you know it's kinda funny it's you know people have their own perceptions and feelings about that I think my. My take on it is that when you're there too long. Then you lose track you lose touch of what's important you you stop talking to the people that you're supposed to work for. And the people you're supposed to represent. And I think that's a big problem when you're there in John's case fourteen years but. You know you have people -- the air for twenty years thirty years ten years the I'm a big believer in term limits I think we need to continue to have fresh ideas and we need to. Have the people who understand that they're gonna be temptations they can be avoided. If you stay strong and remain grounded. Working for the people in the reasons that you went there in the first place and hope that's the most important thing is to stay in touch with the people. 617666860. If you -- text us. Text questioned here to build Dudack can move really to win.
He's candidate in the sixth district Republican running for US congress. 6176668668680. Okay the number one question I'm sure that people come up to you and ask is so let me ask it.
you do about the economy when you go to congress well and that no question that's number one. And let me just tell you what the from the the answer to that is that we have to understand that. The reason that this economy continues. To lag and not get out of it is a complete lack of confidence on the part of businesses and people get going and spending again. And I think that's been prolonged very clearly because. Week after week month after month this congress continues to send out massive 2000 plus page bills. Massive spending bills that without any any show in -- so what we need to do. Is to immediately stop the spending. We need to immediately do the things that historically have worked the best for example right now. We have an opportunity and must extend these 2001 in 2003 tax cuts. And we should be folk all of them. Pretty much with the way that they are right now. With the economy is fragile as it is right now they should be extended but they just helped the rich that's what the Democrats say well you know the if you're going to all of a sudden. Start increasing taxes you more -- take a look at a from a common sense perspective. You know why is it. That if the philosophy of the current administration and the current congress which is to tax and spend is supposed to get us out of it. Why is -- when they got involved we were an 8% unemployment. Why aren't our deficit was ten trillion dollars now it's over thirteen trillion. Why is it that unemployment has never change in fact it's gone up in some sectors depending on which indication Peterson you look at that's nineteen months ago. So the truth the videos. If you look back historically the best way in a recession to get the economy moving is to instill in businesses the confidence get the government out of the way. Reduce the tax load it's particularly with a capital gains rates so that people feel free incompetent to invest and until you do that. You're gonna see what -- hearing on the news reports today you know another dip. In the housing crisis because people are hunkered down worried about what the next -- was gonna drop you cannot. As Erskine Bowles the president's own economic adviser. Has done with Simpson when they did their bipartisan look. At the debt it's running out we have a cancer growing because we cannot. Grow our way out of this national debt we cannot tax our way out of this national debt that's the president's economic advisers that he's not listening to. And and when you talk to folks on the street. And you go to small business owners and I am want and I've talked to -- thousands of people over the last fourteen months. This same issue resonates the way to get this economy moving -- to build confidence. Get the government out of the way and let free enterprise start working again and stop putting things in its way. 617666068. Debts built -- that's what he's gonna do if he's elected to congress let's grab a couple -- call share. How about down Mike in Wakefield your first today with bill Dudack.
I area and paper America. Much what capability. I've -- that you would try to -- edit your campaign appeared together and I was wondering if you're expecting her biggest port in your upcoming primary like.
Well you know I leave that to Charlie Baker I will tell you the -- a good man we are both running very hard. To try to restore a sense of balance and and responsibility to government him at the state level -- at the national level. I look forward to chart working with Charlie I think he's got it all together when it comes to the same fiscal issues in same ideas that I have. And so you know as we go along he's got to race to win and I've got to race to -- when they're on parallel tracks and you know to the extent that we can help each other support each other him you know we I think -- that's a terrific thing to do thanks much for the call let's go to.
I'm just a couple question I really -- are concerned about our economy and taxes but I am very focused on my second amendment rights and -- on acts.
Well you'll be happy to know that I was just fully endorsed by the gun -- Action League. Well almost unheard of for a candidate who. Heretofore has not been in public office and and I think the reason for that is that they've gotten to know me over fourteen months is a guy who's very strong. On constitutional rights and gun owners' side gun rights group in particular I've got a 100% rating from them and in a fully on board there are some very thrilled and an honor to get done endorsement and I imagine John Tierney doesn't get the NRA endorsement right -- kind of tough when your actual goal and an -- ratings and half. He gets and after on it not even not even the -- he doesn't believe in the Second Amendment it all now I -- and I've heard other people talk about. You know who have met with him and -- talk to me and and basically if you have your guy and in the basement of a police station and you wanna stand there in a capsule ready to fire. And allow the police officer to common load your gun for you lets you shoot that's okay with them. But beyond that you know that's that's pretty much where it is but his record. On voting on the on the ride of of of law abiding citizens we're not talking. Criminals we're talking like we're talking sportsmen and doesn't wanna crack down on criminals he wants to crack down on Laura delighting people who should be able to have a gun that's John Tierney for -- yeah I mean that and this is America mean we we were born. You know doing sports -- and -- all those types -- I'm very much different.
It's right there it's the Second Amendment congressman just read it sometime -- so called Jake. 6172666060. Okay we're getting some text we get plenty of everybody hang on law and we're getting plenty of doc calls offer bill. Com let's see. 603 wants to know is the candidates still a practicing Catholic after going to Catholic schools thank you John in Newbury.
Yes I am very much I mean I'm temporarily not in my normal parish of saint Michaels -- you're at a moderate your house idea I've it also I had a fire in my house just before Christmas we -- John -- that -- that's a question yeah the question -- so that's right I remember reading about that right before Christmas unified in your house yeah so I mean I'm not as I'm not I'm in Manchester now which is quite a -- go to guy go regularly to other places -- from time to time just. Just to see it's a great opportunity see a lot of other churches throughout the district. And then. Would you work to repeal Obama care is a question from 617. There is there is no one in this state. Representing people who was more ferocious about the repeal of Obama care. I did AE an actual health care town hall right here from the studio Charlie before you were on the air here back in September. Because I have read every bill I have read every version of every bill. I've studied the Massachusetts experiment and the -- and know the reasons why it is not working effectively. And I know the reasons why we have the highest. That cost care in the country so absolutely. And I have are ready even two weeks ago was down in DC talking to some folks. Starting to already start working on plans to effectively do that. Police -- I'm sure the editorial over the weekend in The Wall Street Journal we're now even Democrats are being told what a disaster Obama care is. In their being told on the campaign trail you'll hear John Tierney say this we if you average you know debate you this. Well it's it's a good first start it will help people but -- some things we have to fix. That's the latest spin from them well I know and and it's it's kind of like he's like he's not my mother. He is basic pitch is. We know better than the American people we know better than businesses we know better than doctors and hospitals. How to solve this problem so they're just trying to convince people that the medicine is good for them I don't buy any of let's go grab another call if Tony in the car you're next with bill Dudek the candidate for congress in the sixth district.
Do you stick around hitting my friend and you go you have my support. -- And my ball well thank you and what I -- sort -- number and car now solid pick up but they want is just curious second. -- yeah appears like American Percy that terrorist. Public it is the person they're bursting beat Democrat. -- like army shrank. You see I can't or won't leave this country who are spending on Monday crazy you can be Obama yeah. Cherish this one do we need a -- duck and are offered ends meet. Our communities. And could make things better for the American people because I see no. But we can go but -- if we don't she regional number -- this all the opportunity. Yeah all written output that 2012. Election that's number one and number -- Want some people is in the future and I could talk going to be bought. And I think Barack Obama is the worst president that I can remember in the eight years of my living.
Semi you admitting you you don't mean worse than Jimmy Carter. Worse than Jimmy Carter.
what -- well. -- like Barack Obama. Got that.
Not that's amazing -- Jimmy -- takes the call Tony well there on that bill -- Charlotte let me just say you know I think Tony's expression of frustration is very common from what you hear out there. I will say that. Idol I can we can all look back in time and say who's done things right who's done things wrong I'm not a guy that -- the blame game. I agree with you Charlie which he said earlier that it's that you know you you if you have a problem you can't expect things to change if you stay on the same track. And we will have to look back at history six seriously to see what we did right what we did wrong. And irrespective whether it was a Republican the Democrat does it matter that everybody shares enough of the blame. The key is to look at and learn from that and move forward in a positive manner and that's what we're gonna do all right how did people get in touch with the bill -- campaign they wanna support you want to volunteer some time they wanna make some phone calls. -- once in -- contribution what should they do well easiest way is on line obviously bill who -- dot com let me spell you Jack. HUDKK. You can you can do HUD a CK HO UD AK HO UD ACK is all kinds of different ways -- lots of web sites to make sure that it's easy first people to find -- but basically HUD AK for congress dot com is the main website. We've had a very high profile. Very publicly close and convenient -- headquarters at the liberty tree mall right on and to cut street. That's been opened since early last -- early September for those of you who who I've helped out with Scott Brown that headquarters was at his headquarters in the whole northeast district of the state. Right off for Brooke what went 28 so either way 151 -- you -- headquarters to Scott during the campaign that's pretty great oh sure well we we've gotten started down like they said back in the in in in the early part of July. And kind of ahead of what people call the Scott Brown wave in the sense that I I could see what was going on. Probably even before the presidential election and if the policies or being espoused were put in play this wouldn't be good and and when I saw actually coming to play Wii when I had not open headquarters in early in sometime in early September and very happy to work with every candidate. I think part of it is on the team player so it's it's it's helping everyone is part of the Monterey that we that we go through okay so that's how you get.
Hold the bill's campaign if you you know if you think everything's great then you don't just go out and vote for Tierney if you think this is the year. That this revolution in this -- this. Feeling of reform and movement for reform is sweeping across the country. That we can do here too in Massachusetts you get all the bill this campaign headquarters -- volunteer time or you can make a little contribution all I think would be. Very yeah well accepted. We're gonna take quick break for the news here at the bottom of the hour and then will be right back with your calls and texts. Two bill Dudack. 6172666868. 68680. On the Charlie Manning show on WRKO. Welcome back to the bill who Jack's show I mean the Charlie Manning show but with special guest congressional candidate bill who Dak. Joining us today in the studio 61726668686172666868. If you want to text your question to bill we've got Balkans questions here form. You can do it at 68680. This just broke.
On the mosque White House no further comment from President Obama on the mosque the White House. Says president Barack Obama will have no further comment on the mosque near ground zero in New York. In the administration will not get involved in talks about relocating. The controversial facility. This all came out -- a press conference today over on the vineyard. He replied the Press Secretary Bill Burton said no in note to the question of whether Obama would weigh in further. Or whether the White House would have a role in discussions about moving the mosque. Which your position on the mosque at ground zero built well.
Mean I think I think it's certainly insensitive without question. I think that if if people really. Looking to improve relations. The people who are pushing it right now because of the backlash should think about being sensitive and and and doing the right thing. So you've got to Harry -- position it would be better somewhere else yeah I'm not after their release for building -- no problem with that but who would be better to -- somewhere else I think under all these circumstances the people who are doing it should do that so low he agrees with Harry you or. Still who -- agrees with Harry -- well here's a thing Charlie you know we all I can be centrist every now and then and and can even a broken clock is right twice a day that's true self. Six -- 76666. Dave let's go to Mike in new Mike hero would build -- the candidate for congress in the sixth district.
Yeah I just this -- fouled while Obama bit about the worst president. I think English judge -- we've got to look like Abraham Lincoln.
It's called season by credit.
That's they I just a couple of short questions of bill. Amateur ball fifty variety. You were very approachable. Impression of the alleged support to our official. --
Well I think right now might general sense is -- in. You know I get most of my information and and I look at all sides of things and and the thing that impresses me the most is. It's not the politics it's not the political issue. It's talked to the people on the ground you know talk to the generals and the troops who come back. They believe sincerely that -- for the right reasons their concern is that if if al-Qaeda and in the terrorist training camps are allowed to fester and grow and if they can get close enough to Pakistan to grab some nuclear weapons and then it's game over so. I will be very open minded obviously I get a lot of the same information you get which is public I don't have a private sensitive data yet because I'm not in congress but. I'm open minded on the subject but I if I feel very strongly that. With the terrorist threat that's in our world and with all the efforts to trying to attack us here in this country 9/11 and all those things that we've got to continue to be vigilant and strong and our national defense.
Who can build 10 portray this might be allowed tracked this priority. It shares such state. And the journals or about your educational system. Patient wait -- the federal government. I believe it's called core.
Yet the core the core curricula are exactly right Mike.
So what -- say about if you have any ideas are you familiar with the -- over are you with that Eric -- Well thank you very much.
And I thank you very much Mike I am I am a big believer that education should be run from the local level in the local level only. I don't think Washington should be sticking their nose in too. The raising in the rear of our children you know throughout this country we have different skill sets we have different you know we were pretty diverse population when you look at. The industrialized northeast where we live -- and then that some of the best education in the country. You know versus some of the rural areas -- I don't think Washington's competent distinctive nose and historically when you look at. That they trillion and a half for whatever is they've spent over the years. With the with an abysmal our record in certain areas of less than 50% graduated from high school that kind of documented so I'd rather see the local level. Control that is as best they can get government out of it.
All right. 6172666868. 978 wants to know hey bill the phone lines in your Denver's office working again -- they've been working for a long time. We had some some little glitches but it turns out they were nothing and it was during some of the dog days this summer anyway video we have them as a matter of fact we're expanding them. We're about to open our Newbury port office within a week. So that we will have not only them in Denver's but also sum up the Newbury Park as we've got a great great following out there terrific 617666860. What would you do both the question is what would you do if you're put in charge of illegals from Mexico but let's make that. What's what's your position on illegal immigration and legal immigration and what do we need to do here -- I mean for me this is that common sense very simple. We our society built on legal immigration. Every single person in this country is either an immigrant or a product of an immigrant and so I believe illegal immigration. But it's gotta be done right and we've got to have time to assimilate so the very first thing we have to look -- right now is that we have a crisis in our country. Where the legal process is being ignored so the first thing we need to do is shut the border state. We need to be very clear. About whether tax dollars should ever be used again for people who are here illegally I don't believe they should be. And so once we close the borders and get control of the situation we commend and truly assess exactly what the next steps are. But I think the focus really has to be first and foremost gaining control of borders do you control the border 617666860. Tony in the car you're nexus Charlie Manning and bill Dudack.
Aureus all of terrific I had a question that I ask it -- Keating I'm in the -- sure I. Amazed he did not answered this pick the question and it goes as follows. What is higher percentage of someone wages which you can feel should be taken in the form factor. Income taxes for example both security and Medicaid or seven and I have. If you look at the average worker there are real estate taxes and dealt factor another 6% 3% each. State tax 5%. Most people in Massachusetts the spamming or 28%. Federal tax bracket forget excise taxes and other miscellaneous taxes. Which put your right about a 47% -- The highest level of marginal tax station that a family. Should be subject to its gotta be between your hundred.
Boy that's a tricky question. -- I take qualifier I can qualified this way. I believe that the federal government is is over blowing in taking too much of a bite from everywhere all right. I think and there are some very good proposals out there to have either flat. Or fair tax that that would work in our country to find everything we truly need to do at the federal level some around the 50% level. Stakes are different each state based on population based on topography based on the economic makeup of that state is going to be different. Now in Massachusetts where it's more expensive you would expect to have to have a higher state tax rate. But but -- I look at the global picture here's the way I look at -- right now in Washington we have that right now the tax rate. Across the board for people Massachusetts is 40% off the top. Which means which means that between your federal tax your state tax for Social Security Medicare it's about 40% on average for those who pay taxes. And don't forget about half the people don't pay taxes at all.
You have -- I think we should go consumption tax but. But that's beside the point well I mean -- there are a mission of politics.
There there are certainly some very good proposals out there. The challenge and the problem with current bureaucrats in Washington tax and spend people. Our that they will always try to find new sources of revenue so they can pretend they're not raising taxes. I think that's dishonest. I think that they need to come straight out and we need to just realize we've got federal tax state tax sales tax income taxes you have. Corporate taxes you have. Tax is in your gas taxes in your utilities taxes in your phone it goes across the board and I think we need to get them under control the reason you can't. Flat out right now pick a number. Is because you've got to take a look at all the economics but I agree 100%. That we should be looking at a at a different tax structure to the extent we can do it and I think we have to do things that are going to get everybody to pay some amount. Some fair share even if it's a small amount I think we need that's of the people appreciate living in this country. -- Good let's go to Diane in -- year old would build Dudack.
I. Well I'm Diane hi Diane as -- nice to hear your voice.
I just want it now if I do good to be having any forums or any scheduled debates with John --
Well that's a simple one it might pat answer to that and it's true from my heart is anywhere any time about any thing. I have been asking John Tierney to debate issues forgetting about politics just issues. Since last September and October and in fact in October into his face when he. Gave a little spiel on health care thing which was dead wrong. I said let's debate now and -- even gave an opportunity if he wanted to get prepared for a couple of days and think about it we could come back but. I will debate him anywhere any any place and I'm glad you asked the question because he's conducting.
Well I'd interrogate they aren't under challenge any -- they got it that you do not -- the blame game. And windy I hadn't heard you speak they are here at my community and I've also heard separately John Cheney speak up. The fast and challenge with some very very intelligent questions. And he ignored he skirted it was arrogant and he was brutal and very political. Then along came bill Kodak. Didn't know him too well. But we've heard frank discussion. We heard captain medication that we heard right attack that have been raised to just fun that -- Well aware of Massachusetts stand in the federal we're kind of topics. So I think and I think -- along. But I think that if I heard these two man. John Candy and they don't act signed by its -- answering questions. There would be no contest in this world.
Well I thank you for that fan and I'll tell you I think that's one of the big reasons why am running. Is that I think it's very important for people who work for the citizens out there the voters. That there -- in touch and they talk to them and they talk straight and they and they don't skirt the issues and and they answer questions as directly as they can't. And I and I will always pledged to try to do that. Diane thanks who called me give you little pieces advice you know worked on a lot of campaigns over the years and and helped run a lot of campaigns. Don't get sucked into loaded debate with this guy. What their strategy is going to be used to try to set up to debate in front of audiences.
Width handles and questioners that will be in his pocket. You're out here saying you'll debate and anytime anyplace. You've got to make sure you have feared debates because it gives you two. And they'll be loaded and they'll be. You know going after you and Republicans and all of that type the stuff. It'll be before loaded audience in the media will be really happy to write who'd Jack was on the defensive -- was spectacular. Make sure this media coverage video coverage radio coverage that people can hear and listen for themselves. Don't do this anyplace anytime because you know what he'll be happy to do it anyplace anytime right where he wants to do with his crowd and his --
well on and I appreciate that Charlie I think got tongue in cheek when I say it that way it's because. My attitude is I'm ready go in he's he's not and I think the reason he's not quite honestly is because he cannot defend the record. Of span of voting more than a hundred times to raise taxes in this area. His anti business record speaks for itself was Citizens Against Government Waste giving them a lifetime rating of 14%. The national taxpayers -- he's got -- on everything in there all their apple never from every important groupies rate gets an F rating yet especially on the economic if you're looking to get us out of this economic. -- what you need is someone like me who's a small business owner who gets it. Not someone who is completely anti business and has that has less than 30% average record from the now.
Shall chamber of commerce like Mr. -- and bill he voted for Obama care he voted for Eddie Markey tax and tax in. Carry trail to cap and trade tax and trade whatever you wanna call bill. He suggests voted. Not to fund our troops in Iraq I know can you imagine what we -- I was just with a great friend over the weekend who served in in I mean in Afghanistan. Who had served in Iraq his son is now fighting in Afghanistan as a young. Military officer. And he was so mad that nine out of the ten members of our congressional delegation. Voted to cut and run on our troops are now John Tierney was leading the.
and he did it just before he went on vacation. So that is hoping no one would see it but you know we're sending troops over there in the number one thing we have to do not care about anything else of when our troops are in harm's way. We give them the tools to keep them safe and and and I did it boggles my mind when you look at the record of someone from this district and and he continuously votes against things to do that.
It's an and it's his president who sent in all the troops you know it's it's it would this was president Obama's plan. Anyway we have to take quick break we'll come back and grab some more of these calls and you're a text messages 6172666860. On the Charlie -- show on WRKO. John Adams talks succeeding W walker here. We're joined by bill -- the candidate for congress in the sixth district -- we got eight email for you. I'm wondering what bill is looking to do about the problem with the fishermen are having with the federal government. Thanks Jim of Gloucester.
Well thanks Jim -- that I'm a friend of the fishermen. I I remember vividly last October when there was a rally in front -- no because the catch share and all these other rules that have been destroying. The fisherman for so long we're about to kick in and and the biggest cry heard from the fisherman is where all the politicians. Now Bruce star showed up he's a friend of the -- of of the fisherman and but for the last fourteen years John -- he's done nothing now we've watched the fisherman there will be eroded their ability and latte I haven't met anybody. In my district. Who is harder working. And wanna be more self sufficient in the fisherman so what I will do very clearly is from the federal level the problem is created there. By failing to seriously give the fishermen. Enough opportunity to test the science the science is bad. And to listen the fisherman so will do we can to. Allow the fishermen to give back on track whatever laughed I mean John Cheney's abandoned them but I'll do what I can't help rebuild the industry that's great -- a lean in Newbury port you're wrong with bill Dudek.
bill. My question payday at all of your hey Steve I've attended many of you town meeting so I do know what you stand on important issues.
And you're right aren't I'll be voting for you but my question is.
When you are elected to congress which committee would you like to hear it on NY.
Well appropriations is clearly one. That's the NB. The to the committee dead dad decides how -- where the money's going to be spent I'd love to be there. I think armed services is very important. Particularly of both because I feel very strongly for the defense in the country as wells the fact that. This district has a lot of jobs that are dependent on. On the military a service such as GE and -- Such is the you know Bedford and and enhance them and all those types of things so those are a couple that I feel very strongly about. You know I also would wanna do something to help the fisherman so beyond the -- marine. Fisheries committees while. Thanks for calling we got Dave we get thirty seconds -- coming up to the top of the hour -- mall.
Sure there. Several separate question value -- describe gravity jet goes against homosexuals in the military. But east it would Jo Malone and Barney Frank in favor of well homosexuality in the military.
Thanks Dave. Well I'm not sure exactly what their stances are or where that that's the position that they take. I do believe that this is an issue that the military. It stands for and I I stand with the down with the military position. --
