Back door deals at the State House?

Shenanigans. Going on possibly at the Statehouse. And I got home last laugh -- on line and their rights are CLT action alert. That meant that the best Beacon Hill watch dog I know Barbara Anderson was keeping an eye on things up -- forest. And it looks like they're going to try to pull a fast one -- they could during today's constitutional. Convention and and so we asked Barbara to come on to fill solid on what's going on -- what the latest update is on all this welcome to the Charlie Manning show Barbara Anderson how you do today.

I'm doing fine but they almost got this past this particular watch started. Thank heavens for that could temporarily of the party and the coalition the family and and sound very good family. That they Condit we watch the election law committee looking for any attack on latest petition process as do other groups on the left to the right who used the process. Never occurred to us that they were pretty and the Judiciary Committee and try to get have to. But since other coalition for marriage and family keeps an eye on the Judiciary Committee. And -- was looking at the the con con agenda. That's -- that they what I found out that judiciary had reported this now without favorable report which meant those legislature was going to take it seriously. So we immediately alert everybody we -- and get this released and then contacted view. And and sure enough we found out that they were planning to make clear out. During this particular week that I -- wasn't going to be a constitutional convention because they're busy with other things they you'd be just come in and go right back out again and don't bother with them. This kind of at a -- and -- pick -- that particular amendment to basically destroy the -- to petition process for all of us. And and so and I don't think even a lot of the members you know this is going on there have been a try to -- have to. The the supported that we affidavit to petition process on the hill to. So this could with a radical plan except that it that constitutional amendment would have eventually have to end up on the ballot that we could possibly tell it. -- with the voters. But nevertheless I think it's important that everybody knows just how they think cup yet the way they played the game to try to make things still. In the big deal last week of the session using -- committee to file their bills and kinda get it -- not only. Political activists like duck and the media -- get a pass some of their own members. That's what we'll look at that and that's where we have to telephone of these people out in November.

So the initiative petition process for folks that may be muted this are just tuning in today. It gives the voters of Massachusetts a voice. Groups like barber is not see LT -- collect signatures and get a question on the ballot for instance proposition two and a half was an initiative petition. And then it's left up to the voters to decide and the legislature. Heats that. They wanna decide everything at the Statehouse in their back rooms. It was funny we were talking to different members of the way to sleep Trieste in fact I ran into a democratic state senator last night. And I said what's going on any said we don't know this is all decided in the back rooms by few powerful people. And then it's trotted out we vote up or down that's the way it goes up here. And that's why they hate initiative petitions in the fact that they would try to watered down. That. -- the initiative petition process. In take that voice away from the voters. Is just amazing Barbara and I you know it's it's guy I couldn't believe that they would try to do it when I saw your you're action alert last night.

Well we did take -- try to do it either you know adamant that the anyhow it a lot of them are looking at opponent. And I don't think they would try to do that they didn't think -- make it true what divided states he accused the major point I'm making here look how these people try to operate. Not really shone the spotlight on another there where we get people calling them. On embarrassing them because a lot of the people who signed on to this spelled denied that they -- side door that they knew what it was about which is typical. So -- like congress you know. What they'll also do retest right. Yes so now that we -- Spotlight are I think at 1 o'clock today they will just go into the -- come right back we of course called our ally from the hill immediately bit stiff status that it says that a minority leader and bad John that the house. To make sure they were alerted the best because they're busy with a million -- initiatives and -- this particularly when they're prepared to fight. If it does come up and that will of course bring it all -- spotlight and then they'll drag on forever as they battled it know what has time for this well I think we killed it. But I thought they shouldn't just it shouldn't just just do it without everybody knowing what they try to do.

Barbara explain to the folks what they were gonna try to do to the initiative petition process and folks. This was gonna be a constitutional. Amendments. Not a law that could be to get this would go right into the constitution. Of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. So explain to everyone what they were gonna try to -- here.

Yes and it looked perfectly innocuous if you don't know what to look for that there are certain things which are not a lot already you're not allowed to diminished petition dot. You can't get finished petition to appropriate money you can't affect judges pay. And you're not allowed to -- the bill of rights with that are based petition all of which are fine they're called. -- They're gonna add one more thing to all of this and that's just a simple that they were going to say that the rights to freedom and equality. The right of each individual to be protected by society at the enjoyment of life -- they can -- property. Will not be subject to be next to petition. Well that's just about everything that certainly includes getting an attempt to cap or limit taxation.

That's a shore or to do something about illegal immigration.

Well I can't think -- that at first -- they would just typical left store -- need that gay marriage issue but it is still annoyed about that. But spend about issues debts fell. That's right you can't general's office has a division that handles all finished petitions they look to make sure you they don't check to see if it's constitutional in the big picture they only look fifty. Did you violate any part of the part of the constitutional that you do an -- to petition that you have violated both parts you don't need to get to go to the streets. You could argue right now if you want to say on gay marriage that at bat was. Some kind of violation of the bill of rights case you have a right to marry just something bootleg weaken their already protecting. A genuine write that the founding father inside the right. But this would add language to be absolutely sure that you didn't miss anything when you went to court reached a point out that look this taxcut. This this twit it would it would violate the right of individual to be protected by society the enjoyment of life by getting more welfare benefits. And that would be a very risky thing when you never know what our Supreme Court is going to do.

By society the what society by society in the you wonder where they even got this language. By society in the enjoyment of life liberty and property according to standing laws so if you had a liberal attorney general. They could use that to shoot down.
