Jim McGovern and it's who basically was stern and extends south to -- to Fall River. And tonight were having a third Canada third row of the Republican candidates. In the it in the third congressional district. And his name is -- And he's from policy done and he's a physicist from a Harvard university of all places these sifted out to -- physicists in congress I don't believe there any from Harvard University. And I didn't know there were any Republicans at Harvard University. Yeah but we've got him on the show here tonight and if you like to talk to a more if you wanna just you know congratulate just still issue you. You could still take a bow on gloat about John Kerry if you like. But Mike thanks for being here on the Howie -- show we appreciate it it's good to see our had a darn good good and the first of all legislate day who -- quit the question we raised last week I was being raised in was raised on -- show on WC aren't. What what done. This this guy. Republican candidate mr. lam he's a contributor to what Democrats. Yeah -- Tom Daschle and Ed Markey who were very very formidable left obviously.

Yeah I mean we really haven't wanted to jump in on this because you know I've been a Republican from time immemorial I've been a conservative but. You know so what I hear is that is sit down Marty lamb has contributed to Ed -- campaign. In 2004. And as far as I can tell marquis and McGovern are very similar in their voting record but I guess that's that's for him to explain to his constituents and you know sort of -- marching by our own drummer and doing our own thing mostly.

No what sure what your status said at Harvard as a physicist or your tenured professor.

No I'm not tenured professor and I run a and nano technology center called the national nano technology infrastructure network. Computation project and that's a mouthful. And so I was brought to Harvard in 2004. From Japan where I'd been living through about twelve years. Two to basically run this program -- a specialist in nano technology competition and and they're small electronic devices so they kind of puts a lot of people to sleep pretty quickly that.

So you're not afraid that this is gonna cost you your physician at Harvard I mean I was wondering you know it seemed like if you -- tenure you would have to worry about being a Republican but they could you know them. They're not exactly. That -- on exactly celebrate diversity.

Well no you're you're absolutely right I mean. I'm certainly hoping that as an elected member of the House of Representatives still wanna keep me around in some capacity Arthur and and Harvard is a great resource for science as well so I think a congressman would would benefit from having having some kind of you know -- run -- thing before I actually was. Fifth grade class.

President so you have done in other words I mean how what chain at what changed you have -- wanna play in Cong I know what's at play I know that's a tough question to answer but I mean. What are your what are the -- odds for you for you how much money have you got in the bank we don't have much money were still --

In a 5000 dollar range if that's that's Oregon we shot we're gonna win just the same. And you and you wanna hear their story Howard and -- sure how are you gonna win well I mean I think that you know. McGovern first of all has been living his life for the past eight years as a representative without any thought that he's ever gonna have to run a real race again. And I think it's coming is quite a surprise to him this year. That gets us. He's heard that that he seems a bit like a deer in the headlights that's exactly right and he's got votes you know such as you know against. The federal government helping with the immigration reform I mean all the way up and down the line -- against tax cuts time and time again. Arms he's been you know without Fidel Castro in Cuba. All on a couple of occasions in standing in Yvonne and you rating. The American government and also in the jungles of Colombia. A negotiating with Farc terrorists where his name was found on the hard drive of the killed second in command member of parks so. So there's a there's a record to attack. It's.

And it's also Scott Brown's district and Scott brown and -- district 57 to 41 that's you know of course tests against Marcia or is it Martha yeah proclaimed car either way yeah well I got your answers to either she asked if there aren't so -- So you know we think that the district in particular is is much more conservative. Then. And then even address the state and I think that after a year and a half the Obama administration and the policies which have just cratered the economy. That it's dead it's you know people are getting are -- scared out there. Here for awhile it was -- panic but it even at this point -- their people wondering am I gonna still keep my job or if I have a job how c'mon. I'm doing twice as much work just to keep -- as I was you know a year ago because you know. These big companies are hiring again this is enormous uncertainty in the business community. There's this enormous fear in the people in in this you know the people who are working so so I think that. That has got a lot of people I talk to. Motivated. As never before it's it's a great year kind of what kind of organization -- well. Debt that actually spend the best part of this whole thing because somewhere around a month or two ago. This team of about 125. Extremely talented people. Have decided to attach themselves and we have a graphic designer. We have a video I'd prefer we have a couple of web designers we've got a couple economists we've got to just a number of people a lot of really great talent. So so if if nothing else ever comes of this I've I've. I had a a really great group of people helping me and they're the ones -- gonna make it to win they really are.

Again though I mean I hate to be you know so what the state house insider -- at the heavenly state wraps the heavenly selectmen and the heavenly city -- we.

He is supporting us yes well I mean there we've had state reps who haven't. Endorsed this but -- lawyer down and North Attleboro has been very friendly with us and Barbara Anderson whose whose citizens for limited taxation has been very good dressed and -- so I think we're gonna we're gonna define and Sean not Sean Hannity. Enough Fox News is here and -- are you accomplish on him well you know. Holly I -- we were banking from the very beginning I'm getting national media coverage and Harvard physicist. Running as a conservative Republican in Massachusetts for congress is a very unusual thing. In addition to you know I wrote this. Boston Globe. Op Ed favoring the Arizona law and does so those things got their attention and they called me in fact their producer called me and said what can we want to come down here. We like to be on a panel so on so we really needed. And down so sober we're doing fine will win the primary will win the united general election to.

But Jim McGovern yes. Well I mean he has his own foreign policy it seems Andy likes to go down to like I say to Cuba in two. Into. South America. More than anything though you know he's just -- a foot -- foot soldier tried it again English foot soldier in Nancy Pelosi is. Army and I think you know. I I just told people to do it's it's more the Obama administration and what they've been doing for the last year and a half than it is. You know Jim McGovern was just an automatic clever in in all these proposals that that we really have to get rid of and so when we have thoughts. You know next year -- a 112 congress has 300 Republicans in the House of Representatives. May be will be able to to push back on some days I was being nice and billiard your next with how we car and mics open go ahead bill.

The F I like -- Australian air I don't. -- area. And a quick question for you I need on the immigration issue obviously we are. A number of millions of illegal or is willing in the country's powerful living here for decades -- crack at least a lawful warrant being aired jailed under another bank. What what it Europe what is sure elevator quick pitch for -- you propose dealing with this how long current pick for a few well.

That the main issue is and always has been workplace enforcement. So I think people don't realize what a watershed. This. Arizona law has been there have been State's laws. Enforcing immigration previously. But this has somehow caught people's imaginations. And it I think people have gotten the idea now that well the federal government certainly is not going to enforce the laws and large scale fashion the next two years that's up to the Obama administration. They're not gonna do it they'll do ostentatious. Enforcement but they want to real enforcement so what has to happen. Is the states have to get the idea that. We can do it. So what I said. Is that we eat in congress can help the states we can pass a law that will for example take. The are no match letters that the Social Security Administration sends to. Employers who appear to be in violation when W two forms the don't match DS a security number name that they have on record. Take the no match letters sent in to the attorney general's of the State's and then the states can do things depending on the state like publish them. And don't you mean like Marsha Coakley well tell coarsely it is not illegal to be illegal suggest race and so and so it's going to be. A state by state thing you know President Obama came out recently and he'd be rated. Idea -- the Arizona -- saying what we can't have this patchwork of laws all over the United States you know enforcing this enforcing that. There actually is broom for federalism. Indian law enforcement. Our problem here in Massachusetts is different than the problem in in Arizona or in Idaho or anyplace else we don't have of -- border to patrol. And world where I was it world war experts -- well I mean we may patrol the border for an island. Just keep -- Kelly no we already have what we all have problems with these illegal aliens oh that's right I mean that's right the running the entire country a trip to the laws we night when he implement here in Massachusetts might be different from what does it down and -- Arizona they have to do so off and I think -- especially you know workplace enforcement and just basically. I think that. The employers in the state have to undergo the gestalt shift. Where they get to a point where they say they get a piece of paper ticket to kitchen table and they say to -- wife honey. We got to figure out. How we're going to run our business. When we can't employ illegal aliens anymore that thought has got to get into -- head of all of the employers in the state because. Because he you know at this point a lot of their neighbors are looking at them as the ones with as much as the illegal aliens coming in themselves are betraying them and who are not you know help and they don't wanna be on the wrong side of the law. And to date I'm sure -- given the chance they would get back to the right side of the -- yeah.
