How Qaeda is a threat undeniably but it is a threat from outside the united. The president of the United States who wants to destroy the constitution he doesn't want it physically destroy America as al-Qaeda dead -- is as dangerous he is more games.
It's time for some. GMT. Is not aware and can.
People back someplace else we do.
Think that's fair.
I didn't consider being set. Principled stands and improve immigration reform. The political friendship of its third generation.
Old hardware already put -- on the vehicle report quoted other boy oh boy -- tell. I'm giving you the finger right now broadcasting from a new. World headquarters building barracks to all my friend told your home Paulson he's ultra zoom -- take.
Okay so you wanna. I'm glad the kids enjoy given its good to have you back toward.
Joining a cells might -- a candidate for congress is a Republican running for congress and the reason he's particularly intriguing. Is because he's a Harvard professor. Andy's a physicist. And an expert in nano technology. And that's not the usual credential.
Although Indiana is not in -- in this by the way is the second I believe physicists that we've had on the show the other one being -- good morning what -- was and he trained as he was isn't as -- the morning mics open nice -- how you doing Todd -- how would do great and thanks for joining us I'm happy to be here. And I talked to our etc. to Charlie Baker yesterday and he said when you come on with Todd and Tom. First and foremost you've got to have fun so I'm expecting you guys to make it a phonics client so you are setting okay. So if I Lewis said he was. Yeah he knows a first and foremost the advice is -- donuts and a half. Especially for tuxedo wearing plain ones stressing you guys beat -- the last and it was there -- no I'm saying -- he sent you -- he wants to be the guy who shines when he comes Saturday and give you. The full information -- he got to be very careful and such artists -- given -- a -- introduction -- have professed become a professor and researcher actually -- not -- aren't professor remember researcher in nano technology and nano technology associated or affiliated with how the university of physics department so what is the motivation. Then. I'm Mike free use getting into the political arena a place that intimidates a lot of people frustrates a lot of people. But very few people bold enough to enter it into -- themselves well you know.
Armed I mean I'm a physicist but more than anything I'm a citizen and I've been a Reagan Republican you know for as long as I can remember my father was. Was a Goldwater Republican way back when so I grew up kind of in a Republican. Atmosphere and dom. And you know the situation now with the Obama administration with have been doing for the past two years. Is is on the one -- frustrating because there's a condescending on the other hand. It's scary about what's gonna happen to our economy if the kind of policies they're pushing ahead with their gonna are gonna like well what's a scary policy. Well to the united just today I am reading in the New York Times or yesterday near times the idea that we're gonna let the bush tax cuts expire and there's a big there's -- a big push on that -- in the next. Next couple weeks I --
One of the problems that pedestal language. That it's that the expiration of a tax cut instead -- let's raise taxes that's rate and it's really I mean even if you think that was a bad move in terms of the tax structure. The idea of raising taxes right now is not something any economist would recommend I don't think.
Yes and and you know in fact I spent a number of years in Japan. -- in the 1990s and and as many people know Japan had a really prolonged recession. In the middle of this in 1997. The Japanese government brilliantly decided to raise a national sales tax from 3% to 5%. And just let any economist you talk to will say that that alone managed to keep the Japanese economy in recession for at least another half of the decade if not. It's not to the president. And and this. This you know reinstatement. Even in the top tax brackets maybe even particularly in the tops -- top tax brackets. Cause the the rays in in taxes is just gonna be.
Deficit why what's the argument because I think most people hear this and they say okay raise taxes on people make 250000. Dollars a year or more. What's the big deal. Well okay some big deal is. Dot if you don't do it it costs money and there's a question of how much -- you get a benefit of reducing the deficit what are we -- what do we do through reduced if we if we let the tax cuts expire we reduce the deficit next year. A 10020. Billion dollars. -- so that's that's not you know that's not chump change that's a real amount of money. But thought would businesses are are now not hiring they haven't been hiring there in a state of gets -- Uncertainty about what they're gonna do in the future and the unemployment rate is 9%. And it's gonna -- 9% for. You know that's the foreseeable future next year they -- next year the administration is projecting 9% all year well okay so. As far as jobs are concerned you know in the in American history the largest to creation of jobs a year on year ways was not surprisingly during the Reagan years in 198384. The economy added about four million jobs. And we do that now at that rate. Starting today wolf will have you know. 5% unemployment till about we'll we'll get back to 5% unemployment somewhere around 2017. And such as when they're wild.
So wild so even if things just have ignited today that's right and and stayed completely. -- great. While 2070. Before you get tough 5%. That is that is us.
Our way to put away we worry we are we were told on a regular basis during but but by Democrats during the bush years that the economy was bad. Yet. The unemployment rate was in the five range right now hold. Decade almost great. It's it's kind of shocking thing to think about and I I think -- destroys the electoral plans of the Democrats that by. Legalizing his a lot of illegal immigrants that they can make up for pound. The fact that they're being very close elections over the last decade or so on a presidential level. That all go away if if this permanent high unemployment. Forget about it for Democrats right.
Great I mean I think I think -- I want to put the immigration situation. Also sometime but you know. In fact. And I think that the Obama administration thinks that the economy is just this boost its lays golden eggs. And it's it's hard to it's hard to tell whether or not they they legitimately think. That the that the goose is gonna -- another golden egg and things are gonna turn around. At the end of this year or whether they know with with their pursuing policies that are gonna lead to a crisis and you know in the next year or two to put words were in the situation I need to -- purposely went. Well that's you know I'm not a conspiracy CS type.
Are high but it's hard to understand some of the story and then yeah I guess said to -- to cut them slack. We have to assume they wanna hurt the economy if that's what it takes because they figure eventually the economy -- come back the most important thing. -- to change the policies. Let's talk about this a little bit with Mike's doping is running for congress against Jim McGovern he's a Republican candidate 6172666868. And I -- lets up pick apart the economic plans a little bit and the philosophies that we're looking at. In and see if people think there's good intentions or something else going on because it is very confusing him it's hard to look at. The Obama administration and know what they're up to sensitive to be able to surmise it's not obvious what they're thinking it's very.
Danny so volume Geithner in fact just came out yesterday all on one of the -- shows in said that oh well we have to show the rest of the world that we're serious about. Combatting that deficit and let the taxes. -- taxes go back up against like. Oh my goodness this is you know this is the -- has.
feeling though he was providing political cover for somebody in doing that the Afghan and that's the other thing what do you think about the bush tax cuts new do you favor. The the putting back in place the higher taxes for people make over a quarter million dollars a year because. I think most people here that they said you commit another 234%. If you're making that kind of money but. We have to remind ourselves that what we hear from the business community is that the reason they won't rehire is because they don't feel confidence in economy. They don't trust. That there isn't gonna be some. Other show that's gonna drop.
Is incredible uncertainty and I think you referenced this -- yourself. I'm curious a lot of I wanna throw up kind of a political angle on to this question of the expiration of the bush tax cuts straight spending his just exploded it's just gone crazy and whether it's the two war was and health care and a median of -- and immigration probably has to be a driver there as well. Suppose somebody came to us now as a congressman let's jump ahead OK -- us some some six us. They -- the US congress might do Simpson as it is not and they say here's the deal might -- is being floated both of -- we got members from both sides of the Iowa what to do this. We'll let the bush tax cuts expire. And on three. 41 multiple. Will cut. We'll cut spending so it's a combination it's it's a two step -- gonna. Texas -- go up spending -- go about do you buy into it are you just bonds kind of tax cut. To.
The other tax side and yet I have a friend who says that in elections to green nine shade party never wins. You know the people who are the bankers who are either. Either the Democrats who are saying you know we're gonna raise your taxes. -- they're Republicans who are saying we're gonna cut spending that. That they lose and so Republicans say we're going to -- lower taxes and Democrats say we're going to increase spending for programs I mean. In fact this year I think is a difference. This year I think people really realize just how deep the red -- is and how deep the red -- is getting and what that's gonna drive -- So you absolutely have to cut spending one thing one thing we recommend it in my campaign was that we reduce the federal civilian workforce by 10%. That we say okay. This federal civilian workforce is now over one point three million doses of the totals federal workforce is over two million for the first time since the Clinton Years. When Ronald Reagan became president in 19811 of the first things he did. Was to send around pink slips you know what they're they're called. The you know in Massachusetts people are suffering there are out of work they did the people who still have work have to do more. At their jobs with fewer people I think that there's no reason not to expect a bureaucrats in Bethesda and places like that to do the same thing. There are people you know there are always deadwood in some of these.
Thank you have to. Yes -- say some calls on this Mike's still the series running for congressman out in what he called central Massachusetts centrally have well period don't Jim McGovern a sworn did you drive recorder although it's such immigrants sister to the peoples is -- people -- Sally are WRQ good morning.
His writing but I've heard he's running against Jim McGovern and 8000.
It sounded normal.
Yeah well he's not that normally is a researcher at Harvard I would we have is -- roster right. But that's -- but.
God I hope -- make it might bless your heart but how do we get I don't really do have a phone unless you on his cell number doubt I don't yes.
Yeah they can MI some old stuff I was just -- now I meant I meant scope for US rep dot com. That's as GOP AF RU SR EP dot com goes so fast this is not a classroom. This is not a lecture -- who -- professional system. -- with a preview with Todd and Tom. This GO NG AO is -- spells open that hasn't stopped AF OR US RET. Dot com and and I really to the people are listening to me out there the first thing I wanna tell you is that September 14. He is the primary. And please if I anything I say. Appeals to you and to and gets through there or period are when you're talking to slow Ted in Lexington and -- W -- and might still fight I.
Tell learning Lenin and although it might decide if that's a pleasure here fellow -- just on the radio -- fifty. I don't formula by Amazon com sorry on the shorten your equation at all why I think they can manage them my background is controlled thermonuclear if you consider use for this Owens only Susan now I gotta prefer that -- to convert their. Version of -- but is Hollywood god this -- doesn't -- equation. Always. Good alternative view of the same stuff I'd prefer the -- sequence and we're gonna let.
But there -- irrelevant thing is that I I prefer that the Reagan's economic studies Obama economic here here and and I think this is the fact good here and somebody. Who who resonates. So well efficient -- that we can't have somebody like that in the district that mr. Markey represented but. -- which are the high tech capital the world and what is there. No but but they would be great. I think if we can get a couple guys. Into that. -- Mafia if you pardon the expression that that SpinRite on wall bits they've been the United States. And also has been running our federal component there. And bring some brilliant people with for the Heisman Trophy is from Harvard -- At that.
Oh it says that was an appropriately placed dig because. There's so many Harvard people in the administration right now the ideas there can be Harvard guy -- nano technologies from Harvard who could be your Republican congressman from Massachusetts while. Well would that be great actually harbor contributing to the betterment of the society. Rather than its dismantle.
the last couple people from Harvard who've been enrolled in the administration have not exactly been glowing examples I know Don -- Barack Obama Barack Obama also Kay -- going to -- Atlantic -- sat there and so on would you take on Larry -- how -- was pretty controversial particularly -- fields -- Ethiopia -- scientists Nigeria Larry Summers you know IIR. I think Larry Summers got a bum deal when he was run out of -- know why though. Yet because he's -- mean hateful -- I think actually you're right -- pattern that I don't I -- is that Intel -- but he certainly had a very bad reputation and he's nasty and -- and you sound like -- Barney Frank what do you say that -- anytime I see MIAs he's got this kind of sterling themselves -- and and so -- right I think certainly -- he was run out of -- not on the basis of this remark by the feminists that had such a -- hasn't -- it was an -- and it's all the truth -- you know that's almost definitely.
You're -- very impatient with what you would characterize as a lot of liberal Yahoo! academic I'm not a suggestion that was fought senator -- TC he's he's spoken out against -- he spoke against grade inflation yet and the deterioration about -- the degree yeah he talked about the nonsense that you get from the hip -- institute us.
Minnelli said great not seamless early and I don't think you're allowed to be like that you post in less you're being professorial about it we've -- let's get Chris in my house and he's calling -- to talk with Mike's still pretty -- congress --
Morning guys thanks -- Just one idea much. I'm behind this -- a 100%. I want -- however that while the business schools they didn't but -- still are really just sit and advocate that the rate. Great representative for the commonwealth.
I'll -- your enemies like qualities would you say would lead that greatness.
What are you well fate is conservative being dynasty you know he didn't see these issues and that. -- it give its illicit Serbia primary administration this morning. One of the big industry that Louis DNA is -- oil oil and oil drilling. And support the entire industry basically out of business. As -- tried to -- they just don't get it so somewhat better earlier that Ronald Reagan. You know economics was the right way to do it. I think Mike would agree with that and then Obama is just making all the wrong little. And the congressmen from the western area is you know it is in lockstep with them all the way so it's time to what. The people that really just that -- understand it and we'll give -- the different point you know in Washington that's why I'm supporting my.
All right -- good point thank you for calling and it's -- good premium thanks Christie and -- your next NW RQ with Mike still running for congress Saudi in the is that the third district -- district central mass I'm like.
you are conservative and good. You're gonna start the week that total -- over the.
How hot hot hot hot. They're trying to destroy the museum actually always good to be -- the phone number they're campaign that photo of her phone number for the campaign is is 5082076697. 50820 -- 207 the idea is we want people to understand this yet I just yeah. This is like a peer review thing I -- back to the -- 508207669766. Nights episode so Ted and Mike and Christie -- made a point about Harvard and conservatives I wanna say that there are conservatives. Coming out of the woodwork at Harvard these days they have never come out before. And this year crimson. He's just an -- to --
It's time to talk talk back from vacation to 680 double these little quiet because he's so stunned. That's the -- is still. You know this is that this is actually good good stuff -- we're gonna stay like this some good stuff here. Stay tuned to WRKO.
Memory for up to -- compliment each other's soul well enough for America here immigrants -- passengers -- spared spread -- I'm fine -- appear on Muslims talks -- M 680. W -- you.
How high can you get refinance you sure can can -- get. I'm not --
We don't let them allow. We now live in a Third World country. Isn't it rich countries we have plenty of money if you don't believe me after Halliburton. Don't believe me we ask caliber. You don't believe me ask big oil companies that still get billions of dollars in subsidies despite all the that they don't -- it don't believe me. They got bailed out like trillion dollar by about trillion plus about. This is -- rich country. It is the war in our execution are valued. Have to be the people who stand up and say don't tell me. That we don't have the money in this country do the right thing we don't have it will in the heart of the courage -- right.
Yeah that's Van Jones who used to be the dream czar in the Obama administration. Used war on out of office once. The world realized he was a Communist and about com and he was -- little too conservative for the Obama administration until they got rid of them. And now -- Jones was speaking at the network's convention Morales get together from daily cause.
And -- the president's sense video to them in all the other bigwigs were there Pelosi can't read and there's -- I was there as well they're talking about why if we just tax the evil companies more. We can have everything are little hearts desire. He doesn't explain why it is that we have to borrow almost half of everything we found it curious that you reference Malawi and so above me and he really repeated Malawi. And then he talked about it not being a -- relation but he apparently espouses policies that it is a grocery want Third World he's trying to do that from allowing -- witnesses might still play he's running for congress in the third congressional district what do you think about -- my.
Well I mean -- I think that. I wanna put an award for rich people. You know you you mentioned earlier that you know there's there's an ideology out there that well let's just take a little bit more from the rich people they can afford it. And then we can just raise the taxes on them when the bush tax cuts expire. You know the point is that we're not gonna be just taking the big cars out average people's driveways you know when you tax people who are making. Over 200000 dollars they're the people who are. Creating small businesses they're doing investment. Farm in our economy. You take that money away from them what you do is you take it out of the economy and you put it into the hands of government and led government make the investment decisions and that is inevitably. Going to decrease efficiency economy so. You people people have this idea while his fat cats you know we could just take their money away. It's it does is not that simple even if they're buying. You know all of luxury cars. There there employing the thriving economy the car -- there's locals buildings that are being bill so -- existing page that's right so arms so we don't. Did the whole thing isn't really deep pernicious aspect to the Dan Jones ideology. -- that you can just. Tax the rich tax -- rich you know as as Margaret Thatcher famously said you know the -- with socialism the sooner or later you run out of other people's money yes you will run out of other people's money and you will you know eventually crashed the economy if you keep. If you keep you know soaking people just because they have money.
It's like there's another side to this -- what you referred to is kind of a perversion. And it's this it's that. It seems to us at least half the country is paying nothing. In terms of federal and comes right I mean and and government is either shared in common enterprise or is nothing's really there all -- together -- the hell with everybody else. I'll I'll I'll float my elbow and you know we won't have any common denominator is what would you do as a congressman to address that side. What this does -- questions.
I mean I have not you know for a long time been paying a whole lot of income taxes in on the middle class guy and making a middle class income non. But you know -- the point is very well taken I and I I have proposed. Or -- I have said it. I'm I'm in agreement with Paul Ryan who's he Wisconsin congressman who's put forward a road map for fiscal sanity. Where he talks about among other things simplifying the tax code so that people can opt in to a simple two tier tax system because it is absolutely case that. To 50% of the people don't pay any taxes. I don't remember the numbers ups top my head to the federal income tax cutter for federal income tax that's straight no okay and -- Eric in indeed that's a good point because. Because liberals will generally -- that you know well what about payroll taxes.
You know what's also interest -- about the tax situation is because everybody has deductions taken out of their taxes they think they pay federal income taxes. Even if they get it all back at the end of the -- really -- they still consider themselves federal income tax payers I think that's a deliberate trek. Into to make people all feel like they're investing in the system even when there. At the end of the day there may be getting tax credits and other things that are making them beneficiaries of the system rather than contributors.
And when -- when the smoke clears and April 15 passes they end up getting a a check back that that basically cancels out everything that put and so yeah I think. You know it's it's a very it's a very risky political. Policy to say let's raise taxes on though lower income people com. But the fact is you know that the distribution is an equal let's not make it any more on -- well let's let's at least you know and preserve the inequality we have currently that's right I mean there is something to be said for graduated tax day and I'm not for flat tax I -- maybe two levels -- something. Something are reasonable is is. Is acceptable but but the unit just just saying that every time we need to render the piggy bank to pay for some new. You know and Obama ideologically approved pet project. There we're just gonna -- soak the rich this is just this is it recipe for disaster. -- running against Jim McGovern he's the incumbent congressman. A couple of things that he's known for a very good staff work very good constituent services. And very liberal and kind of proud of it yet. On the liberal side he says he's against the war -- but if we're gonna have the war. We should have -- the balls in the branch to pay far. Heidi come down on the war on -- well first let me say one thing about Jim McGovern -- first constituent services is concerned there. My daughter went to Washington DC. This past off. Spring and Jim McGovern met her and she she shook his hand and said my father's turning -- and he's very gracious and he is. A really nice guy when I met him in -- finally he said you know -- your daughter she's very lovely and I thought. Gosh. I'm gonna vote for the sky and as a wait a minute I'm running against this guy very -- that he's a very very very liberal he is a very likeable guy but he is just way out of step I mean he's to the left to the Obama administration. You know -- so in Afghanistan -- particularly and we decide this recent thing and it you know it's the that the Taliban is being supported now. By a prizes and Pakistan India intelligence service this is not a surprise to most people but the exit of graphic nature of the revelations on it is is is definitely there. Afghanistan's are really tough situation. We need some kind of final state dared to look forward to and it's very hard because the economic base isn't there. It's conceivable that these recent revelations about a trillion dollars of minerals being in the ground. May ultimately lead to an Afghanistan. That can stand on its -- but the answer is not. -- packing up and leaving and letting the Taliban comeback in this is this would be an interest on insult.
You are doing now is the answer they DC some alternative. You know armed because right now all we have is who really it's designed for failure so if we're left to wave of all we can newest toggle between those two options right I think we'll end up. We're we are which is trapped doing something that we know is gonna fail there's -- a famous piece of tape from. From a Lyndon Johnson where he had this conversation with us senator Russell I believe it was. And and he was saying to Russell. You know what I but I don't think it's gonna work I did I feel like this is what I have to do. And that's a really stupid way to proceed but that's how it feels to people right now.
Yeah well.
Todd Tom I have to tell you I don't have the answer for Afghanistan I don't.
I think that I know the answer is not pulling dot com. The situation is very different than it was you know and Lyndon Johnson's day we could lead Vietnam collapse and not expect the Vietnamese to be flying planes into our buildings. -- that's not the case in Afghanistan. We let we let the Taliban come -- we allowed terrorism to take root Derek and we're. We're just asking for trouble.
It's a very interesting debate because if you. If you really if if our goal is getting al-Qaeda our governor Zell told us there are maybe fifty al-Qaeda members in Afghanistan. So where we've spent 300 billion dollars at this point. Cannot on how much more Morse going to be spending year fifty billion a year whatever we're going to be spending each year. That is money that is going after fifty people it seems a little out of proportion ready if our goal is C Everett of al-Qaeda which obviously doesn't 'cause al-Qaeda is not there. Our goal I think is to make sure al-Qaeda doesn't come back in or Afghanistan but while there and other places. Operating freely aren't sure what the big fear. Of Afghanistan -- I don't wanna buy give them -- yeah there's an interesting conversation yeah I mean. -- generalist myself this year by the way -- this ST OPA running for congress in the third congressional district yet so who actually when -- say. If I could -- a little bit about the way to campaign is gone over the past. You know four months or so you can tell some really exciting I know what it did it this sounds like the set up for really tedious moment.
How backpack -- our well being Monday I want. I did not what's at -- I actually got to -- provides a little to do yeah yeah. Getting ready to end -- Zumaya had a fund --

What animal videos practiced hard -- our here's our -- this I sign my send -- sleeves of his -- and it got it doesn't really does national legend Johnny -- and -- on the campaign I -- it antivirus fifteen year old daughter a thirteen year old daughter -- McGovern eleven year old daughter and and and -- nine year old -- we if we figure out what's causing that to happen it's -- hot -- and now to a -- interesting point yes -- these politicians can be so adept at being nice. That they convince everybody how lovable and DC there even better tomorrow.

Nice people not you let Daniel looked at the philosophy and somebody might say -- I paid my song -- Iraq so and so -- and not way out the F get a despite our web.
