When President Obama took the podium at Wednesday night's memorial service in Tucson, Ariz., he was greeted with the unbridled excitement of a college campus embracing their commander in chief. Cheers and screams and hoots continued even after he asked for people to sit down. As he started his eulogy, with the somber words, "To the families of those we've lost," voices still cheered and at least three people shouted out, "We love you!" It was not the way most memorial services usually kick off. What did you think of the audience reaction to Obama's speech last night?

    Wed, 12 Jan 2011

A recent ruling by the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court makes it easier for people injured on snow covered walkways to successfully sue those property owners who don’t clear snow from walking surfaces. Winter is here and so are slippery sidewalks, parking lots and walkways. Previously, Massachusetts courts have ruled that a property owner cannot be held liable if someone is injured walking on new or what courts have called “natural” snow. Instead, owners can be held liable if someone walks over the natural snow and then another person falls down while walking on the same area of snow, called “unnatural” snow by the courts.

Welcome back to the Charlie Manning says 6172666060. The number if you wanna text us 68680. We're having so much fun with the John Kerry -- story and I promise you we will get back to it but I wanted to have a special guest on today. Everybody's been saying. Will Charlie keep talking about the congressional elections and the challengers to use the John tear knees and to the Ed Markey into the Barney franks into the Jim McGovern's. Into the Niki tsongas'. But you never have among the show. So I thought today would be your very appropriate -- to have the challenger to congressman Ed Markey and his name is doctor Jerry Dombrowski with had a month before. But I thought -- and today because I was zipping through the New York Times editorial page. And god there's a very sad editorial. With a whimper. On Thursday senate majority leader Harry Reid abandon the fight for meaningful energy and climate legislation. That means cap and trade. And that means cap and trade it looks like is dead for the year. Well everybody knows who the author of cap and trade was in the house. When they were able to ram it through last year and who was up they're taking bows. It was congressman Eddie Markey. And so the Eddie Markey bill thank god is dead for the year they can't get it through the -- it so out that's a lot Landis. Even the New York Times editorial side and dumps on a little bit. So I thought it would be fun to have any marquee opponent talked to Gerri Jim -- you on today so cap and trade is dead -- to Jerry how you doing today.

I'm doing very well Charlie how are you plan shelled by the way on. Kerry voted.

It's a god how many times are good to know -- revolt upload upload upload it to you all it's.

Yeah. Would it 76 feet it's yacht script that it. But did you notice that the Eddie Markey cap and trade legislation. Is dead if they're not even gonna try to take it up now it doesn't look like unless there's a sneak attack. Take it up before the election now.

So -- help time they had a little bit of common sense it's. Disaster waiting to happen if you pass that bill.

That's for sure now that that come up when we're route when you're out on the campaign trail doctor Jerry don't browse junior running against Ed Markey. Did people know that he was the guy who pushed ruled the -- to happen tax bill in the house.

For the most part I don't believe they do a lot of people out there don't really understand. What -- trade is that how devastating it actually is to not only be. The economy but what it'll actually. Jobs Spain has happened trade they just fidelity. But you know these last year. And for every. What was it. One green job that was produced. In Spain lost to who job. Because of that there's electricity skyrocketed by 30%. I think they're -- a fortune.

Yet they spend a -- it's so funny I get National Geographic and it's still a great magazine. But they've gone totally moon data on global warming it's just it's like ridiculous to see what we used to be sister reputable scientific magazine. Has gone and they did this yeah huge piece. About how Spain is using. This is trying to capture energy from the sun. And they showed you know while all of this. All of these huge facilities that were being built and how projections you know five and ten years down like twenty years down -- line. How much of the -- would be for it would be solar energy and that things they're building -- huge. And then I swear it hadn't even been out for months. When I read The Wall Street Journal that state needs to canceled the whole program because it cost week too much who is bankrupting them. And they weren't gonna get merely the energy out of that that they had projected.

Is it -- it's not just. Looking at those type of energy sources and you look at. Think nuclear. Power sources for instance. France it's 79% of all of their electricity from nuclear power sources. And they're so efficient. That they sell their electricity to other nations or other European countries around and the and it produces. Or -- billion dollars. So they're content. But we can't do any thing in our country. In relation to nuclear sources because of people like -- You imagine if we were allowed build nuclear power plant. We could provide candidate. Help America -- all of their electricity. Imagine what what that would do our national deficit that thirteen point one trillion dollars.

Who would certainly help. I'm -- for radio -- or something in the background.

No I was gonna ask you that because I'm getting a lot of another station.

Yet that's where do you know what that is Chris crystal check it out I'd -- the best produce around he'll take care of it. So talk to Jerry how's the campaign go -- tell us tell us what people are saying now they are you didn't good vibes.

Hallway that campaign is going absolutely spectacularly -- and a new management team got rid of the last one. It and we've got a great financial team working oh we're speaking will be. Financial people in Boston on a regular basis know with fundraisers together. And the word on the street out there is north. They're just looking at saying. Washington would use to -- Well we're concerned about the economy were concerned about our jobs so I mean we have businesses that are absolutely frozen. Because there's so concerned over what's going on in Washington. They don't roll -- obviously. Pro -- for a short period of time cap and trade is killed but we still have. Health care bill the F financial regulation reform that just -- was they were yesterday.

Yes -- signed by the president.

Yeah so many people are just. Absolutely frightened by what's coming up Washington.

That's -- sure what you saw the new Gallup poll yesterday we were talking about I know how he was talking about on his show that -- they re institutions. And that the reading of trust for the institution of congress. Is that its lowest level ever 11%. Of the people's trust congress.

Well I mean how can you not. How can anybody trust congress when you put other health care bill. For you pass by health care law that a single work in other countries Canada had -- what do they do they they send their. Prime minister comes down to the United States for health care. That we have the world's greatest. Hospitals we have the greatest technology down here we've got the greatest thing. Biotech and pharmacological. Research and development. And Washington wants the changes.

Blow it up it's more like it for big government takeover would talk and Jerry don't browse. Doctor Jerry -- Brownstein who's the Republican candidate against congressman Ed Markey. -- he's been in there.

And and long.

Time. I understand. He's actually coming back to Massachusetts once in awhile to pretend like he actually cares about what's going on up here now.

Well from all the people who -- and vote shaken over the past several months nobody is clean room.

So we still is staying undercover doctor Jerry hello. What will you know I what it is -- still registered to vote up here in his bedroom that is mother's house.

That one I don't know about.

Where is he registered to vote.

Apparently is somewhere in Malden I don't exactly know. The address -- that we're actually work and.

Well okay. If I remember that he still lists his mother's house in his where he has a little bedroom they still has Teddy bear bear from when he was a little kid Ed. In the poster of Bobby Orr and everything in net -- is legal residence in Massachusetts because. To the best my knowledge he doesn't even own property Kerio it's a big house down in Washington. The Washington DC area but he he doesn't live here at all you know it's far be it from that that's the shore.

Well it just goes to show you how out of touch he is with the situation in the nineteen. Cities and towns and also we represented. We have a national role. Unemployment rates some hovering around 10%. And he doesn't even come home to see what his policies actually do so the people that he represents. Any cap and trade for instance. I think there's something that's gonna kill millions of jobs and caught our economy trillions of dollars. You just can't -- we're already suffering we have thirteen trillion dollars. In the national debt we've got a budget one point three trillion dollars we can't sustain any of that. Well we've got a represented those who doesn't even show up at the district has no clue what's going on here. People wore this apple legislation that has no clue what the devastation of the economy.

That's the shore we got a call hears -- who wants to talk to doctor Jerry Dombrowski who is gonna be who is the Republican candidate for congress against Ed Markey in the what district fifth. Seven districts seven district so I always think easiest way to know is. Who your congressmen is the -- who's the challenger is -- we had ten congressional districts here so. I'm not sure really why. You know you don't really need to know the number you need to know the challenger in this case it's doctor Jerry -- against Ed Markey. Arthur in Chestnut Hill your -- would talk to Jerry to browse to the candidate for congress.

Very judge -- great show their support good super it was the dark view but their. -- are used to live in mall that -- logic districts reporting for years. You know he has a lot common look the other Robert -- contrary -- every. They are they're very good Everett Massachusetts remember Everett wash your -- up so what's so while. You know it's amazing how these guys have ten budget rugs you know today you what is supposed to be representing our.

Well. Just show you how out of touch he is any. Wanted to sponsor a library for sixty million dollars. That's not even in the district. We -- support what we're gonna put it in Dorchester. Between. Perry and marquis we're trying to push that several months ago.

I think that was the Kennedy. I think security I believe it was at a local with a lot of court.

We -- but it's not a library it's like a monument. To we talked about this doctor Jerry. Yeah it's like a monument to Ted Kennedy. It's being built over U mass Boston. And their spending 68. Million dollars of taxpayers' money. To build the Edward Kennedy Center next to the Kennedy library over next to UMass Boston.

Now how much more help how much would that 68 million dollars benefit. Me. The seventh congressional district in nineteen cities and towns or doesn't he think that that. 68 million dollars would be better served. Being that those nineteen cities and towns that are suffering from unemployment small businesses don't want to hire because they're afraid of what mark he's gonna. Gonna try to push --

Sure big big Serbia's politicians -- we -- to choose the I totally out get out of touch with the voters every every Massachusetts politician. Out there acorn was exposed. Although we keep their funding.

Well I honestly I don't believe the system Massachusetts politicians we didn't get here just. Only by the -- in congress we got here by all. I think it's time we clean house all of can start all over actually I think we're better off we take the ball atop all the names thrown at the start --

Excellent call -- do we appreciate it. So talk to Jerry what are the key issues -- dead just the economy is that the number one thing people are talking about when you run into them on the street.

The one that urges the economy jobs health care. Our energy policies. And immigration -- Yes very big one right now and a lot of elect spoke at an event yesterday in the financial regulation so that. People in the financial district in.

While that's for sure if people don't realize what's going you'd be the outgrowth of that as we find out more and more of what's in it it's like the health care bill. All the time we find out more and more and more of what's in that health care bill and what they snuck in there at the last minute that's why would Nancy Pelosi said. We have to pass the bill in then we can find out what's in it. The speaker of the house actually said that. And of course already did it in and of course -- Markey is one of near its people lose these biggest supporters you know would member of her teens absolutely.

Well he's a lot of what I'm hearing out there revolves around job -- People are saying you know what this stimulus doesn't work. We like I said earlier we've got almost 10% unemployment. And we were all that we passed the economic stimulus. We're not gonna go above 8% unemployment and they -- load you know what the new standard for unemployment is 10% it's just unacceptable. I think extending the benefits. And throwing good money after bad its message. Well going throwing good money after bad policy is not a good idea.

So you would not -- supported. Extending unemployment benefits anybody that had run out tough luck you're out.

Why wouldn't say how black. I would throw another solution out there which would be to take yet the left over stimulus money. And use that to extend benefits.

Okay secure -- exciting benefits it's just that you wouldn't have -- Added you know thrown it into the deficit.

Yeah I've I mean there's other ways of of doing things in the way they Doolittle there. Just look thinking if you take that the stimulus money that just sitting there doing nothing. You use it to extend the unemployment benefits and then give. Or you provide the right use the money to provide incentives for small and medium sized businesses. To take in or employee people who were -- out of war I mean. You've got huge benefit they -- one we can do with. Today. -- we -- yesterday at these people were thinking about it it gives the unemployed had jobs that make businesses more productive. And the big thing is that -- are local and national economy. Why is that so hard doesn't that make sense.

It sure does. Well we wanna thank you for joining us today in the Charlie Manning showed doctor Jerry Dombrowski the candidate against Ed Markey and when I saw the editorial in the New York Times today. It's called with a whimper. About how the cap and trade bill is dead it was the Eddie Markey cap and trade bill they didn't get it through the house. But it was dead on arrival in the Senate even Harry Reid couldn't pull it through. In the New York Times is very upset but I'm happy I know doctor Jerry -- browsed he sappy and it's another bad day Freddie marquis in the Democrats stakes -- joining us have a good weekend doctor Jerry. Take care about 617266.
