Former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum was the winner in all three primary contests last night, including an unexpected five-point victory in Colorado's caucuses. Santorum also won the Minnesota caucuses, by an 18-point margin, and he won by 30 points in the Missouri primary. He may not have any new delegates, but he does have the big Mo - momentum. And I'm gonna say one word and let you take it from here Obama.
Obama is bankrupting America. That's the fundamental message to people have to understand. And and the only way to fix it. Is to clean house and and I think 2010 will be step one and 2012 will be stepped to. Interesting. Com I saw and one of the items online today. Hillary Clinton is being touted as a potential primary candidate against President Obama I don't think that's very farfetched.
I think it is never a little unseemly when you're the secretary of state of the union administration and your gonna and then turn it. On your boss in effect used to position he gave you. As the -- as the platform. From which to launch a campaign to his detriment how.
we should just swallow but in watching the put into reality of that it's it's this is radio not television so you cannot see the breath of the smile on John's face. And our mind for that matter yeah I think look this this president. Is demonstrating that he does not understand America he doesn't understand the system here. He seems more comfortable with European socialism -- because American capitalism. And what really shocks me is how inept. He and the White House have been. Not only in dealing with the big issues but even the smallest shoes and and this is not take -- in prison. This is a Harvard graduate student trying to run the country.
You know you mentioned Europe and then the reason find it -- because Fox News today. The headline Europe want warrants Obama this relationship is not working. Europe's disappointment. With president Barack Obama's presidency was laid bare on first day. As the EU's most senior figure called for dramatic effort to revive transatlantic route relations. We were all talking about in the campaign remember all. George Bush had bad relations with Europe and the rest of the world Barack Obama they love Barack Obama year and a half into it and the addition chances look.
He went on the apology tour first international -- went on he went to Europe to apologize for America. Not understanding. That as president you should not be covering personal favorite. With the Europeans who should be trying to create respect for America. And that's what that's what he gets for that process. He has undermined this country's respect around the world. There is not an international newspaper that on a daily basis. Doesn't carry -- good letters -- commentary on how disappointed everybody used in the Obama presidency. They thought that this was going to be an effective president. He's turned out to be an infected person.
Public look at the bright side he's now appointed a NASA administrator Charles Bolden. Who says that he is foremost instruction from from the president. Who -- to. There have better relations with the Muslims who -- supposed to go over there make them feel good about their contributions to math and science. Well look this by the lending to -- just jump in the history got a text message -- because he said he Johnson who runs for president I'll vote for him. You know my wife for the first half half half half half her first vote is the -- a few dozen million more you've got a job. What a nice person that is but I'm alone I'm over the hill but thank you for -- com. I wanted to bring up health care for which we have not talked about daybreak when you talk about Obama's agenda. And remarkable situation with -- health care we passed the the bill only the American people got to build thrown at them passed by congress signed by president. And -- to this day. There is saying rather strong majority sentiment for repealed during her usual. Who is a piece of legislation your thoughts about the Health Care Reform that that I Obama is -- time that.
Negative sentiment will grow. I think there's still a constituency out there is that doesn't realize how badly it's been abused. A constituency that got Obama elected President Obama was elected. To some extent by a strong vote from the young people of America the under thirty fives. And they are the single constituency that in my opinion has been treated most badly by President Obama. This is a constituency that had about ten or twelve million of them choosing not to buy health care insurance because it was a bad investment for them. And they got to wake up and find out that the Obama administration is forcing them. To spend two or 3000 dollars on health care insurance that virtually none of them will use for years. The fact is is that the young people in America should be the angriest constituency. They're slowly beginning to understand what you did to them this slowly beginning to understand the tax burden of the trillion dollar extra deficit components. And all of a sudden at some point they're gonna wake up and so. The 58 to 60% dissatisfaction with health care will turn out to be 65%. Because.
He recently appointed Donald Berwick to be the head of Medicare and Medicaid. And burgers made some interest in comments including me he had his romantic about the British. Health system the national health service which is a centralized authority he called -- to -- doctors he clearly is in favor. A big government and single Payer system. To be implemented in this country and he's got a budget no bigger than the defense.

Ernie too much money to those that he deems it needed and all that up close applause folks here is because. Former governor Mitt Romney has come in here I'm surprised you here -- not new and you're.
See I was gonna say they apply -- small -- through what John was saying but for the appearance here governor Mitt Romney was joined this governor welcome nice to see the -- needed to be here with -- and also is John you're doing quite a job in New Hampshire I'm. I'm looking forward to some big successes coming up this fall while this is this had an extra extraordinary turnaround for the Republican Party New Hampshire it will once again be in the column god intended to.
Now -- middle we begin with a question because I'm John just brought up something which we had mentioned in the program and and that is that he may be now they Hillary Clinton. He's going to challenge Barack Obama in. The democratic primary I'm wondering big deal for. Hard choice of two questions here one is which one of them would you support the other is does that influence your thinking with regard to run again.
That's an excellent letter the answer is no hope but but the former. That would be a dream come true to see a nice -- in the in the president's party and would that be fun to have Hillary Clinton coming back and running against Barack Obama my guess is she would be successful. In a primary against Barack Obama will not a not a great predictor of what's gonna happen in the Democratic Party but I think she'd be successful. I did the Democrats are on their heels because of this president and they recognize it and they -- they recognize that independent voters in particular. Are fleeing from Barack Obama and frankly -- yet even during the last cycle my view was that. That Hillary Clinton had more experience and and and more. Relevant judgment. Relating to leading the country that did Barack Obama and that she would have been a better nominee for the Democratic Party -- what do I know I like myself better today how.
So this afternoon. -- she would actually be a more formidable candidate if she got nominee because we wouldn't then have to Barack Obama was brought all this hardship. And and problem to the country she could say well let that's why ran against and how we actually better off with -- Obama being real.
I mean I'm not much of a political pundit tonight I know -- that you have that the fun of getting -- chance to do that with folks who like me who don't know much about this particular topic but. But she can be real tough there's no question about it and I and I think that that for the President Obama will find it is very different difficult reelection campaign. It's typically hard. To remove an incumbent president and either party. But. -- but I think this president has made a number of missteps domestically. And I think his foreign policy missteps are beginning to come home to roost in the combination of those are such that. I think by 2012 he he will be very vulnerable and someone like Hillary Clinton. Who would have distanced from some of those missteps might be a stronger opponent.
We're speaking here just joining us -- somebody else and filling in for Howie Carr and I had the privilege of having John Sununu former governor of New Hampshire New Hampshire. And former chief of staff to the first President George Bush Sharon also Mitt Romney. Former governor of Massachusetts and candidate -- president of the United States last time that perhaps hopefully. This time I should mention his wife is here as well and nice to have you. Now you mentioned that he's made missteps -- domestic policy and foreign policy. And John and I were talking a little bit about some of the domestic errors that you mention foreign policy what missteps do you think he's made.
Well it's quite a list of -- you start with the with Latin America. Where Latin Americans were wondering what would be posture this president be you have the Honduran Supreme Court. Declared that their president had violated the constitution he's a pro Chavez. Pro Marxist anti American they remove him from office and President Obama insists he get put back. That sent a message then you have Columbia our friend standing up to Hugo Chavez. And the president straight arms Colombia in their bid to receive most favored nation status. The president goes around the world apologizing for America -- that in Europe as well as in -- in the Muslim world. And frankly he was wrong to do so there's nothing to apologize for for America's greatness in the balance sheet of what we've done for the world. -- not apologize. Yes. He has I think -- not distinguished himself in his relationship with Israel. He went before the United Nations in his inaugural address and chastise our best friend in the Middle East Israel. And said nothing about Hamas launching 7000 rockets this. You don't we SA BS a policy of approach meant. Engagement he calls it with that with the rogue states of Iran and North Korea how's that working out houses as a policy worked out well. Whereas -- would North Korea let's see they've they did that test a long range missiles. They've done nuclear test now -- they sank a South Korean ship with with Iran. They're arming insurgents in Yemen. They have exceeded two providing long range missiles or missile to -- to Hezbollah on the border of Lebanon. And they are of course accelerated the nuclear program it is not working real well that this president and I happen to believe that the start treaty. Was who was -- an effort. It too fast and and is exceeded did in too many ways to the Russians and puts us at a disadvantage particulates -- relates to our missile defense system so. Long and short this president has not done a great job in foreign policy. And that is only underscored by how the dead devastating his domestic policies have been he has not helped turn the economy around what he has done has deepened and Lincoln this downturn. And the American people are gonna say no to present Obama. Governor Romney thinking. Half half half half. I apologize I won't -- as I.
Well -- John -- let me ask you both stay on the eve in the arena foreign policy. The subject that I broached earlier in the program and I'd -- didn't both your views on that. And then there was one not one on your list Afghanistan. What do you think our policy should be. Really just you both you general what do you think our policy should be. In Afghanistan.
Yeah I'm happy you -- asked John that I I'll -- lessons locally good I think first of all the president has to learn. But the issues are in Afghanistan and what the historic culture is in Afghanistan it is going to be extremely difficult. To get a central government. Running the country that. Unless. There is a rapprochement between the central government. Of the regional families. That run the country's. And the regional families are looking for economic viability amongst the people. And and and and I think. We have to focus a great deal. In investing in creating economic viability of the regional basis in partnership with the leadership families. That will then allow the central government to have some credibility out its own -- and I don't think this administration is focusing. It's well.
It is you know President Obama when he was a senator voted against the surge in Iraq and said it wouldn't work it did work fortunately his vote -- was not to dispositive. And we have seen greater success in Iraq in part because of the surge he has applied that approach in Afghanistan I think that was the right decision to make. That being said he has hampered or hindered our prospects of being successful and a number of ways. One he took too long to make the decision. He indicated that Afghanistan was the right war. And yet when the military came to him and said look we need substantial additional troops 40000 at a minimum. He took months to make -- his mind I think it was the Vice President Cheney said he's dithering while we're making this decision and that puts our troops. -- it in a take a period of a trying to build up actually during the fighting period which I think was mistake number one number two. Announcing a specific date for withdrawal was an enormous mistake I think he recognizes that now they're trying to back away from that. But is it the other cats out of the bag and and both are friends and Afghanistan as well as our foes there. Have taken a very substantial reading from the idea that we're gonna begin pulling out of the date certain. Next when the military comes and says the minimum number of US troops needed just 40000. I would not have said okay we'll give you thirty. If -- the minimum his forty I wanna give at least forty -- more and and and finally. Finally. The key to any successful counterinsurgency is of course have in the local population have confidence in the government. And and the failure of our administration to make sure that the elections in Afghanistan were seen as being credible and honest put us in a disadvantage. So I think our relationship with Karzai has just been mismanaged and and as as distract distracted. For the potential of our troops to be successful so that the the president made the right decision is made -- late. He didn't get enough troops there and and he he he sets -- Deadlines. That unfortunately have made it more difficult for our troops what it in the carrying out their mission.
This is not Nelson in for Howie Carr with many in the studio former governor of Massachusetts Mitt Romney former presidential candidate may be presidential candidate again. Former governor of New Hampshire John Sununu. Also former chief of staff to the first George Bush president of the United States -- It's rare that I mean such distinguished company makes the program he's here to do what what did you guys here that are unemployed usually over the job body. I imagine it is you know. Before we leave Afghanistan -- just -- is the war winnable and worked as winnable mean.
Well I think the war is winnable if you put it the context of can you have in Afghanistan with a government. That is recognized by its own people as being legitimate long run. And and therefore is a stable situation that to me is the measurement test. It is winnable but I'm not sure it's winnable. Under the current strategy for all the defects that governor Romney has defined this administration has fallen -- The other the other number of defects have made it very very difficult for us to be successful but I hope we can be successful where. I mean we pray for and we we had our art. Hoping against all hope that our troops will be successful there. And and I think wind may or may not be the term that comes to mind successes is. Perhaps comes in my mind can we be successful and seeing stability there. And ultimately. See the Afghanistan. Forces take responsibility for the the care of their country and prevent al-Qaeda and and their friends the Taliban from taking over again that I think we can achieve. But it's it's not going to be easy and it's not certain. Particularly given the the the problems have been created by this administration.
774694322. I don't want to completely forget about the phone call because the program revolves around them so we're here. The indulgence of my two guests let's go to the telephone lines Donald you're next on the program. With governor Sununu governor Romney.
They carry out they haven't got the governors about the Kagan nominations this stuff around the book is Scarborough votes to nominate Kagan. -- message does that send to the voters in Massachusetts but you agree with Kagan judicial philosophy.
Two good thanks for the question I don't I'm not gonna prediction that Scott Brown's vote on an Kagan. He'll have to make that judgment self. It if she is individual who I would not vote for. I and I I concur with with much of what senator hatch wrote in his in his article on this matter which is tonight I believe for judicial. Philosophy is is not consistent -- which I think is appropriate for the court but. But. She is not somebody who I would have nominated I think -- another senator -- looking to be a senator so voting for not voting for is not my my back. I have my measure but the key thing is what I've nominated or no I would not have nominated her and I would not a not a nominated justice soda my air. But to Scott Brown is a difficult decision and in ahead of him and we'll see what it is and yeah I.
Don't doubt that you will be confirmed if the Republicans let's come to a vote. I would hope that if the Republicans used to try and prevent the folks that the senator from Massachusetts Republican senator joins with the Republicans. But. I think the real issue is her philosophy is wrong sometimes philosophy is over. Overwhelmed if you will by a grand experience and in the judiciary she has neither. And even though the president will be probably able to get her confirmed by Hughes. Huge majority in the Senate. There is a chance that the Republicans could be able to -- the --
We shift to another tell -- I guess we have to take a break so let's do that. To pay some bills which I'm sure it gets support from both remain here although perhaps not from the countless commodity -- capital is -- personally the government runs things. And we'll be back on the other side I'm on -- this is rally car program.
Welcome back -- cash out your very good.
I'm talking about the -- how they're bound by and welcome law and I. I'm wanted to see not all these guess now I can remember that if you feast or famine there's some -- in men's did nobody's calling. Now expects it to cherish so many people that if you don't know what to do first. And where everybody is you're not John Sununu is here Mitt Romney and welcome lowering them. Nice to have you here and yeah congratulations on the new book thank you must confess that I got it as I walked in today.
All lanes all I have not root -- it's called the Obama darlings yes tell us about it well the Obama diaries. Came in May at a NASA them I didn't want them -- frankly. The Watergate garage. Landed on my -- just come back from manicure pedicure you know we women have to have our biweekly maintenance. Went down and so this thing this Manila envelope on the hood of my. The gas guzzling SU day and property the American people scrawled across the top -- jokers put something on the -- my -- at ripped open the envelope. I served I start flip flipping through like leafing through my.
My goodness well that the don't really have with Michelle Obama -- but I am Barack Obama diarrhea Nancy Pelosi -- of -- an -- dot. I'm Joe Biden actually you can spell it's amazing. And I sort of flooding doesn't like it is a surge shaking. That actually I actually at that point drove to The W. Hotel decided to have a drink because I couldn't I had taken Aaland. And at that point I decided it's too much I had to really -- to the American people so. People ask me this is fact or fiction nicely this want to think she there's more truth and these diaries NN any Robert Gibbs press conference. Contact.
The think diaries have open and I say it is an amazing crowd here at the -- hotel in Boston WRK out. And -- such a great -- and great guest hosting -- it's it's a great job but I have the worst hair on this panel. He got -- you know looks like he never ages he got Romney who you now is this. Perfect and could not mean not you actually put out of -- for man I still unaddressed hair breadth of its neck like.
But it well it's nice to have you here it's great to beer so what can give us some really juicy stuff of the diaries what. So the stuff that we can look forward to a -- this.
Do you know the guard never wanna run in the people know that there's a vegetable garden of the White House how many people know that -- Yeah I never there as well Michelle Obama told Larry King a few months back that it was the first ever garden at the White House first ever. That's news to Abigail Adams. Andrew Jackson's family Hillary Clinton and Eleanor Roosevelt by the way but as the first garden and won't hold in this stack of diaries that I receive Douby one of them was the diary of the first grandmother Marian Robinson. Otherwise known as mother Robinson the White House October 20 ninth 2009.
Up again at 4:43. It's a big dump truck the park service brings in every other day when they backed up and get them other topic beads and oddly. This I have had enough I iRobot of one outside the Secret Service got me. At the back door and said you should stay in the house mrs. Robinson the agents said. -- and a house business in the yard young man I told them. You get out of the way and he moved. They just follow me out to Misha Misha as the nickname from Michelle's garden. And what a shock I got there obvious. I was wondering how the garden grew so quickly I mean they all wheel barrels full of vegetables out of that packed almost every day now I know where all the produce comes from. I went to complain to the driver doesn't the park service workers bent over their hose in the dark. Let me tell you they frozen and they -- me. And in the back of the truck that small containers stacked to the roof in these vegetables for a huge tomatoes like basketball's. But his biggest Robert -- Let's do this every week right before they bring in another group for the public school. Children to quote harvests. -- is garden. Those port children will get attorney is trying to pull those gargantuan veggies up the dirt. If they're smart don't make them like the fat ones carry the relatives though if Misha as a way cut now calories and -- they'll all be rail fan. Who knows maybe -- create another national security crisis for -- to care. I can hear her now save the children's backs let's move your spine. Queen need to protect our children spinal health bad girl could never legally well enough alone damn I wish I could get some sleep. Mother Robinson revealing what many of us thought that diet VVV garden. Is the National Park Service planting. Fully grown vegetables in the middle of the night okay and it looks good on camera but now the park service doesn't jobs saved or created and Joe Biden's calculates.
The Obama diaries written by lowering revenue share with -- she isn't this year further in the book signing right there -- to -- to hang out and young -- book -- and I think I'm gonna I'm now running -- seven and our available on the on the -- until seven. He she relaxed do you have an entry. War Michelle Obama when she urged everybody to go visit the beaches in the south because they're so nice. And decided that when the family goes on vacation it should be in Maine.
Well is this do you ask that because there was if a there was an add extra diary hidden diary. That also came to me that ended up being on the Huffington Post somehow a couple of days ago. And you know something the first of all she's angry our hobby because she's heard that you are criticizing her working vacations okay these are working vacations for the American people into those domain dot tomorrow the -- and vegetable -- when she was in Malibu two weeks ago saying it Howard marks billionaires house and -- class that was a working vacation go to Indonesia it's working vacation. But she is fed up with this. Fed up enough to herself. Eat a chocolate hurricane before she left Pensacola in that and I can you didn't know that she's after she said deserted not a right in front of the NAACP in -- talking about obesity an African American community. She had a chocolate hurricane ice cream cone at the -- pelican ice cream -- in Pensacola like an hour later is there a disconnect it's like. Would don't look don't do what we do what you people watch what you put your mouth okay I think about it's not about the garden the gardens got a funny thing. It's about. Control from Washington versus parents being in control or individuals being controller states being in control it's all about the federal government amassing more power. Getting bigger and bigger. In order to continue this great hope and change experiment and study Obama -- this kind of a satirical funny but substantive look at the whole thing it says they historical narrative and matched up of these dire.
interweaving of what is real and what is not true and how can not true not true that hurts me that pain.
Mean it's all transferred from some of it is just thinking it will it again it is true is the fact that we saved or created three million jobs this stimulus that's then what does that factor --
Not one is easy yeah. I recollect differentiating you know in the diary that may be targeted now well gentlemen your welcome to join and we got -- and has got to work your way we I would like Ontario Toronto and I I. How are presented data keep god does this break out.
No they did that thing hit I think we saw nineteen months ago is as beautiful family -- let's say that the positive thing that we. We pray I pray for our president every day I really do I pray for this country prefers the Obama's. I want them to be successful at growing the prosperity class in America make peace in this country the strongest. Best country in the face of the -- I don't like what's happening to America. I pray for the president but I don't like what's happening to America. So I think what people need to do now is say okay they're beautiful family lovely lovely individuals lovely people gorgeous daughters. But this isn't working. And we can apply satire to -- just like they did to George Bush weekend. I have fun sometimes at their expense and good natured fashion just like they've done with conservatives and we conservatives. Need to be happy warriors as we move forward in these mid term elections and the presidential race. We should be happy and having a good time. And and believing that the future is going to be better than yesterday America in decline and I'm -- and I felt I had --
What they'll be happy about -- to separate satire from reality. If we come up with the satire of a NASA administrator who was charged by the president. To go and make Muslims feel better about their contributions to map.
That's like I wrote it for the diary to -- that that that I can eliminate that couldn't have happened right but it didn't happen. That's what I'm saying that it but -- the diaries I think I don't fact fiction -- what is is Jonathan Swift. Well is that this is how it's -- and this is all -- house of mirrors OK there's there's been an enormous theater of diversion going on in the United States of America. And what I think people want now is authenticity. In candidates and conversation. They want people who love this country who have a love affair with all things American. In this book into the -- first chapter is is what does America mean to us what does America means he'll. And what is this country we don't we don't stop to think of it in America is is what we should all be in love with regardless of who -- who's the president of the United States we need to re engage. With this country and and that's what this is.
All that well in the interest again of not giving opportunities and satire would you like to comment on the possibility is Hillary Clinton will be running against Morocco.
I'm old and as I've been saying that for prefer a nineteen month apparently I have to go to some some. Well how is Michelle Obama's here really how can help me there. Dust away. People I've I've been sort of throwing out around for a guy you know about a year now is the fact the Bill Clinton went to the White House today. To give advice to President Obama people said well that means that there's no way that Hillary's running. -- that makes Hillary look grilling guide that. President Clinton has to go and sort of okay young man I grew during the campaign love okay young man this is I have to do what you have to actually pretend that middle America means something TO. And I I bet Bill Clinton sort of gave him a little bit of Arkansas correction and the way in the ways kind of approaching things. But I don't think I think that makes the clintons look good not will not look bad I don't know what's gonna happen but I think it would be. Highly unusual for the incumbent especially at first African American president the United States to be. I challenged by by anyone else including Hillary Clinton. I it would be great fodder but I'd be I'd be surprised and I'm gonna give my Hillary Clinton impersonation now my husband's administration. Anyway you guys doing great and I'll see you love the -- thank you for herself and I thought well luckily that well good luck with the book. well I get the chance to begin reading the book today a friend gave it to me and I and I read a number of pages. I didn't get all the way through but I got about halfway through at its very entertaining. And and in between some of the satirical. Entries. She makes a very good points and and I think. What's interesting -- about the book is that this is not just appealing. To the ultra conservative. Members of my party this is appealing to Republicans and independents and some Democrats as well I think people recognize. That this president has a very different vision of what America should be than what virtually every the president our history -- And it -- it he takes his Q and some respect from a a European standpoint European view and I think the American people are saying known. We we believe in the principles that made America the great nation that it is and we do not want to turn for those principles in fact we think that the turn from those principles has weakened us. Made our economy less prosperous and made us less secure so that Laura's book is fun. And it's appealing to a very broad section number of Americans.
What I find interesting is a recent poll that indicated that now. 55% of Americans. Think that the word socialist. Is -- correct description. Of Barack Obama. I'm surprised that it is usually. Ideologies don't factory and we did talk a lot isms most people don't even know what how you define socialism. Or capitalism and yet somehow we. The people become informed enough. To know that this man is indeed interest in having more and more centralized authority. And expanding the government reach into as many -- which is again.
You know it's it's amazing how quickly the public has come to appreciate that this is eight -- government race. And I think it's part of I'd almost. Be removable stains that he's. You know you can you can Bill Clinton was an artist that moving back and forth philosophically and finding what he cents the American public. This president has ignored. The American public's perceptions and put his agenda on the line which is big government -- chipped it and I think the public thing.

Generating New England -- We're back in this is not Nelson wrapping up the pro -- apologies Acosta some people call then we can take any Carlson last half hour I'm sorry for that. I would try to make amends next time -- life. Governors let me we've got about a minute ago she let me ask you one question -- remember. When Obama got elected everybody all the pundits were writing about the demise of the Republican Party. And how everything was just a matter disintegration and time until there were no Republicans. What's your view now of the state of the country the Republican Party and indeed the republic.
You know I think there was the potential for that to happen but Barack Obama took the party so hard to the left back to the nation rather so hard the left so aggressively. That it has breathed life back into Americans. All over. The political spectrum and they wanna take America back and I think our party is alive and well and strong and I think you'll see our party. Resurgent in the elections this November and I'll tell you that I think can add New Hampshire going to be one of the states at the top of the list John.
Yeah I yeah thank you truth about -- governor. The president rallied the Republican party's commitment. I don't think he understood I think he believes the time magazine articles in Newsweek articles. I think it in -- him and he he really underestimated the intelligence of the American public. They understand this president is they've left radical. Harvard graduate student trying to run.
You know that people suddenly got elected we would've had Ronald Reagan but for having Jimmy Carter and it may -- history is repeating what's gonna do it for me thank you for joining us. The kernel and tomorrow I'm on Nelson you've been listening to rally -- program.
