Good morning it is Monday morning our favorite day of the week because we have five wonderful days of doing radio with new. Except for some who -- it. So I guess I'm contradicting myself Charlie -- is here for the hour he's a Republican running for governor how are you Charles. Latest we turn out -- might they go right again my entire had a good to see if there and it's nice out jolly jolly quick question for.
That was a -- dropping in for a moment good good good -- he's gone back to the beach I SF city trying to stay out last night at least. A couple of bucks. There are farm subsidies available time I think you know we can take area. -- quiet. But that so what's gone on -- campaign how things going.
Weller or actually -- of Springfield this afternoon hum urging -- legislature and the governor actually do something on the reform agenda in the last twenty days the legislative session that also talking about. The fact that the governor pretty much said he would not rule out hiking taxes to deal with the budget deficit that he's leaving for the next governor com we've made very clear that more American raise taxes we're gonna cut spending and reform state government that I love to have people give us a jumpstart a -- by doing something between now and the end of the session.
Are you are swearing off any new taxes -- No absolutely yes it was a governor will not are you only won't I knowing more entertaining enough but I mean he sounds like he's basically decided to raise taxes 1210 that this a standard bait and switch election where you.
Don't say -- when he ran in 2006 he said he thought Texas and Massachusetts were just about right and then. Boy just -- got elected he I mean every budget he filed since he's taken -- since he's proposed new taxes even when times are pretty good so. I think it's pretty clear he's gonna go I mean an addition to let me think about it. He was he was raising taxes is the same time he had billions of dollars in stimulus money and billions of dollars in rainy day fund money to spend instead of reforming state government so it's pretty clear where he's gone. -- that your come January.
Only there are -- specific taxes already on the table or.
What he's proposed five videos and gotten yet the gas tax to candy tax soda tax. One and two others who take care remember disease don't want -- to go up. He wants higher toll stored in he hasn't -- that replace that I think the sales tax -- we took care -- that basically I think it's we can say with comfort I don't wanna misrepresent the governor but I think it's clear that he's happy to get any revenue stream media. He would want to increase revenue will he clearly -- had a chance last week when asked about whether or not he would raise taxes to deal with the budget deficit that is going to be there he did not take raising taxes off the table right I have because we can't tax our way out of this problem we have the cuts --
And that how do we cut spending in an environment it's a real special interest urban environment and traditionally the legislature goes in -- panic if any group. With twenty people shows up to protest that's on some kind of saw a program you know that's upset about the loss of funds to making dire predictions about how there will be. People dying in the streets if if in this budget cut -- through -- in that environment. How do you successfully cut taxes.
I think I actually think targeted the first thing we have to do is is reform the waste a government works and I think that time is ripe for that I mean I look at. The time when I was in her -- want them to sort of a dysfunctional and and disorganized and and virtually bankrupt organization and we basically said look at everything about the way we do move the business series gotta change and we've talked about consolidating agencies reducing the State's workforce by 10%. I'm taking on the pension reform issues that have been hanging around out there for the past couple years dealing with this issue about. State benefits for people who are here illegally mean those are issues at the legislature is sort of sniffed around men and then gotten close to over the course of the past year to and I believe if the governor were willing to lead on those we can get a lot of that stuff done.
But Democrats seem pathological committed to doing things that aren't popular and are -- good for the people. So all the tax increases nobody wants it wants him and everybody.
Oh although the governor it's in Europe sizes a size is tax increases on the sales tax -- still trying to figure out when I'm having taught us. Glad we spent a lot of time talking to businesses along the New Hampshire border they -- don't think there were.
I think he's thinking from his point if you may be that there's more revenue to dole out I mean I really believe that the governor thought he was coming into office to be. The good witch who was gonna float around in a bubble with a wind and dole out resources to people. And I think that's what a lot of lot of liberals view leadership is ping the early guy goes trying to give us all these special interest group's money and are all happy in love you. And then the economy turns bad and I think he's a guy who was ill equipped never having managed anything and never having had government experience that he's had learned. On the job how to respond to the situation.
Well the biggest thing about the about the the about the recession and the and the fiscal crisis started as you have to get aggressive early and put upon you as fast as you can time is not your friend. And with three years in this fiscal crisis in Massachusetts are we still have a two billion dollar structural deficit because the Patrick administration and state government. Have not pursued the reforms and reductions in spending their required to get us out and they should've used the fiscal crisis. As this huge opportunity to take on all those big issues -- Whether it's agency consolidation reducing the State's workforce or streamlining bureaucracy here reforming regulation. More fixing the pension system and there's a long list of what most people would call things this should be done and common sense reforms of people would agree with. And and they're basically are still on the table and -- three years and this.
And the reality is that the official democratic. The statue is. Position right now. Is she tried to still avoided until after November. Facing the economic reality that is a kick the gym mentality -- of this -- a -- election mentality which is keep the state budgets propped up Lorraine how much federal money are we.
balancing -- and about a rumor billion dollars some extra money time money him and is so that allows -- he's their next year which is part of the reason -- the deficit next year subic. Okay so there's a bomb ready to drop yes exactly.
Next year right and every all the Democrats hope to get. Re elected. Or -- elected before everybody realizes how bad the economy as and when I look at the federal government. They had on the table two weeks or hundred billion dollar stimulus package which didn't get reported at all as a stimulus package. Because they've put the unemployment benefits in their and then that the whole story became about unemployment but that was largely going to be money to the states. To be able to sustain any existing. Overspending budget --
I was women governor filed his budget back in January there were 600000000. And one time. Additional federal stimulus was coming from that those -- dogs have particular proposal that I and others at the time said. Really shouldn't be built in the budget based on that 600 million or may not be there in the spring and the governor and other civil ability contingency plan that never really did build a contingency plan Florida like I said here we are. We've had the biggest opportunity to reform state government consolidated -- streamline it. Whichever word you like best in the past couple years and people haven't pursued here at all and that's a huge missed opportunity -- all get a splash back on us next year.
Charlie Baker is here -- Republican candidate for governor so 10. Why do you wanna walk into the sincere describing a big trap that's been set for you.
Because that because we need we cannot tax our way out of this problem and more importantly Todd we have to reform state government and cut spending because that's the way we're gonna create jobs and get people back to work. The most you know you he's just so long conversation with -- about the state of the economy nationally and I personally believe the one of the biggest things I've been out there every single day talking to businesses of every shape and size of Massachusetts. When the biggest things you hear over and over again from them is the uncertainty of what state government's gonna do next. The state government gonna raise taxes and state government. Continue to do it to fights around with regulatory policy what's gonna happen with regard to this fiscal situation. An and and I think the biggest message we have to send in the state of Massachusetts to every business every family. Stakes they governments don't live within its means state governments and about its budget is not going back to the taxpayers in the cities and towns. -- figure this out and we need to create a climate where people will invest in their companies and invest in their businesses and grow jobs and give people back to work.
61726666. If you have questions or comments or Charlie dean taxes is well at 686 city. But -- We have the fifth worst business climate. In the country based on what what I'm TO magazine. For years and around what are they were -- seventh out of fifty what do they look at one -- intact ROC mostly tax policy and regulatory policy. -- how to present us how easy of the Big Three. So are they welcoming in terms of permit in Kenya permits quickly Kenya cooperation terms and for other objective standards.
Rather regulatory environment com what's the combined total tax burden on businesses and I'm individuals what's the cost of unemployment insurance or your employees wanna even moved to the electricity does a CEO wanna move to the -- well let him more importantly a very different locate my business there in my going to be able. To succeed or should I just go someplace elsewhere the you know the cost of doing business is that is dramatically less than the look. I was in Plymouth a couple of weeks ago. Bunch of small businesses including one that had a manufacturing that's headquartered in Plymouth has manufacturing there. And their currently expanding their operation in Minnesota and it's kill them to expand and in Minnesota -- or Massachusetts people. But they said look the cost of expanding at a Massachusetts is just so high that it's cheaper for us to do -- Minnesota we have to do is to.
So -- since there was a spreadsheet open them plug in the numbers -- look at where they went right so these guys -- only wanna be here yeah I think they have metal annoying guys and it's killing them. To have to expand in in Minnesota but he does have a choice and what specifically if you could it could you tick off a couple of the policies that magic cost electricity OK why is our electricity artist friendly country fourth highest electricity costs in the country and those survey is that based on nonspecific green policies -- well it's gonna get worse if we do things like -- cape wind and and -- twice what it more currently paying for electricity for cape wind and some of these other initiatives but the governor -- regional. You know carbon tax kind of approaches. Is that something that's have a negative impact as of yet.
I believe the will have a negative impact on the road I don't think it's not a negative impact yet but I said all along that if we wanted to diversify where our electricity mix and our energy mix we should be signing an agreement with Hydro Quebec. Renewable. Clean alternative energy source proven and cheaper than what we pay now. And I don't know why we're not -- deals like -- square one now why would you not to and then years ago well that's why Vermont has a deal with domain is currently negotiating -- I don't know why Massachusetts isn't the what I hear is that. People don't wanna pursue Hydro Quebec because it's not power that's generated here might UN that is so why it. Enter into something like that okay here's where it's well coming from out versus -- it's sheer adrenaline it's cheaper. But that's -- nearby and unemployment insurance hear about some more dark business taxes are actually the seventh highest in the country. Permanent change by the way four or five times in the last four or five years which is. Very confusing for people I -- regulatory policy everywhere ago that there are no real objective standards around lot of regulations in Massachusetts and it's a long list now.
61726. Sales tax increase succeeds succeed Johnny -- junior and WRK with Charlie Baker Republican for governor John.
Try to challenge -- million. Grace Kelly now my heart so if we knew well governor you won't find -- deflation. Still knows the power on Beacon Hill. True pass on taxes. Tool simply. People that they Levy against the other corporation. That's just what they say. Big tax and now we tell all polls anywhere that they -- they bodily you can pass this topic is the way it's okay. They know what we're raising your failed tax and by the way it's okay it has signed. Below actual restaurant if you want would you sign a little -- like that.
yeah he's I IAE John you raise two of the eight taxes that have been increased its factory Governor Patrick took office one with a telephone poll tax and the other ones the sales tax -- Tell me what it is and and those tax is absolutely do you passed on to end user there's no question about what is -- your. Tell me what the question -- asked him.
Which -- legislation that allows that they have.
No of course I'm reconcile legislation that allows Texas to go up -- all I'm gonna veto legislation that increases taxes because I don't think we should be raising taxes. Then and and -- in the middle of a recession like this who were already a high cost high complexity low -- state to begin.
Why in the world wounded we go along with cape wind we chooses. There are saying -- broad stretch in my they're gonna they're gonna charged dice is my double anyway and the Democrats say oh how could only you know we have to have my diverse.
I don't disagree with that there are alternatives there are there already alternatives like Hydro Quebec that are available out there that we could result Villanova.
They're saying we need to have our own alternative energy sources say and I it. So is so I don't see -- Quebec does that that's just buying me you know they wanna hear I want -- is an alternative energy source that you need because it's proven and it's. Reasonably well why don't we care what kind of what DN for example we've got tons and tons of natural gas why don't we just can we -- toys out -- out this is what most of ours is I mean we are basically we are hell you're talking about in terms of electric generating electricity right there but -- What's wrong with that what if that's the cheapest why are we going for the she does it seems to me we empower ourselves. By giving our businesses says you've been talking about the lowest cost of doing business and then that would generate more income for us is a state. And then if we wanna invest in some stupid like. -- Towers out in the middle the ocean to generate electricity which products are predicting ten years it's gonna look like Mel Gibson's first movie mad max there's just going to be a trial -- to Newsweek -- I'd throw little irony rusted out pieces of junk -- gonna spend a few billion also have removed in ten or twenty years I don't understand who what is a compelling interest. The end importing those things out there.
I don't is the cape wind project in particular I don't understand the compelling interest other than there is no offshore wind farm anywhere in the United States and well what I -- someone else make the ball -- I do believe that on some level there's a tremendous amount of symbolic. Pressure associated with wanting to be the first I don't happen live feel that way about it it does that I don't know what's the payoff is still being the first I don't know what the payoff is in there and I especially don't know what it is if it's gonna double the cost of electricity for everybody who has access power through which is the part that bothers me the most.
Don't you think we owe it to Ted Kennedy. His legacy sends us to do it in Kenya because he really is almost Daria now I mean I just feel lonely yeah I feel this powerful sense is for allegiance scenario this being his number one -- gave us.
It's important that I just think throw them for the time are. Main reason they got into this race is I'm deeply concerned about the State's ability to generate jobs and economic opportunity and I think every issue ought to be viewed through that lens does this help us grow jobs in Massachusetts or not. And if it doesn't help us grow jobs there better be one spectacular. Offsetting benefit otherwise then and my view is we ought to be focused and everything through violence which is why spend most of my time talking about. Tax fiscal and regulatory and energy policy because that's a big piece of the issue.
6172666. Seats -- see that -- Charlie bakeries here for the hour. You can call in and fire away with your questions he's running for governor has a Republican. Here at 680 WRKO.
is coming to Boston and W ordeal would like to invite your tour explosive book signing and discussion of the elegant W hotel in Boston is theatre district we'll be there.
I kind of like the idea and a -- and Sally. Jolly jolly ally yeah oh yeah a couple people actually introduced the events it always wanted to have -- introduce somebody who. In my mind there. Charlie Baker.
This a good that I who went over some friend's house they just had a baby of the few weeks ago on the baby's name is Charlotte has set this so great he named a baby -- what a good -- that is a good name integrate them -- this is strong name strong that's right very masculine very leadership or ship early. Leadership friendly kind that are real worry their time values a lot of -- typical 617266. Exceeds sixty you wanna talk to each rally can. And you can also tax emits X 8680 -- TRW are -- good morning.
Marketing and mom opportunity you I was gonna debate. I can't I can't stand them up up up up you irked by being bit let down and -- the cute as. Harvard pilgrim is true we hi art group health insurance from I can tell in the tenure that we are policy. My idea -- monthly cost up almost a double. So I can't even consider hiring someone else until they helped pure premium get under control. And we are excited that it better the Internet -- my does that make well over that you're at 8000 dollars -- but everybody's talking about all you get people. Get what other legitimacy action I'm allowed to take in Knut the cute bit. Might ask bill is under thousand dollars a year or so I -- a disproportionate cost of health care costs to an employer. It much or greater concern. And there -- viewing the video at Harvard pilgrim you're able to just great everybody screaming and what did it both trying to can't the company around. That the governor would increase their general -- turn the bigger.
I see you see something else going on at Harvard pilgrim that appear different from what other health care provider insurers were new.
All right. -- because they were competitive with the program it had previously backed. Without without would be tactical and are okay is we basically got it and -- beauty and -- It -- it can't secure you know we apple kicked people out that -- the ball on that thousand dollars is an issue. But operated it without an let's go to our area there are lots of undocumented. Bit -- them aren't writing I. You know. It in early because we don't and problem. We view it got any other come out like well wherever you backed. Deal with this other population does. All these little bit left but I'm not quite -- they don't buy it worked at all we did evidence.
And -- are well let's hear from Charlie Nancy okay live there's later there were bunch of questions and and as you saw immediate need to from the first -- is American a raise taxes to solve the State's fiscal problem period and in fact on the business tax side. I think the Massachusetts business taxes too high animated series of proposals to simplify the business tax go to especially for small businesses and to get it done a 5%. Which would move it from -- and seventh highest in the country to something more like the middle of the pack which is where I think you should be. Obama on the on the second question you asked about sort of the fly by night businesses and places like Lawrence and and foreign and places like that I think the state is completely fallen down on. Supporting the businesses of play by the rules are getting serious about getting after the businesses that don't I talked to folks who were in the landscaping and construction business and the and the retail business all the time about. About how hard it is to compete especially in economy like this against businesses that hire illegals and hire people are legally don't pay taxes don't pay workers' comp don't pay unemployment. Don't pay taxes to workers that they hire. Do everything out of cash and and under the table basis then. And I think the states should be far more aggressive using every single arm available avenue. To work with folks who were playing by the rules. To snuff out identify locate and punish those businesses are claimed by the rules because of puts the guys -- bring gals who claimed by the rules that a terrible disadvantage --
And really create an incentive for a black market economy. When you have so much burden on business to.
That's true too I mean if you have the fourth highest unemployment insurance costs in the highest health care costs which Nancy mentioned we should get to a lament and my highest costs associated with a whole bunch of other things -- you actually create incentives for people who cheat but more importantly. You created says -- people who cheat if you're not aggressive about enforcing existing policy and whenever a governor who's basically said over and over again. That he thinks illegal immigration have driver's licensees he thinks legal legal immigration -- in state tuition. He's basically made the case cities not serious about immigration reform and he's not serious about immigration and that translates into and attitude the permeates almost.
How about the costs of insurance because I think a lot of people of the same -- your -- keeps going up we never make use of it. Because were people who were healthy. And we have big deductibles. And what are we paying -- money I am a big deductible to by the way -- I think what's best way to do it because it's the cheapest form of insurance but the then I wish I could ever bigger deductible.
I said to a Massachusetts you can't -- their limits only can do their two which I don't understand well the regulations in Massachusetts have made it. Mean over the past three years we have more regulations more mandates fewer choices fewer products fewer options and higher prices wearing much the case across the board but more importantly. And I'm -- in this for a number of years. Some one of the first things don't wanna do about health care is I would wanna make the price of every single service publicly available because I think you can have. In my honest conversation about what to do about health care costs until everybody puts all of their cards on the table the way the system set up now. Nobody knows how much anybody gets paid for.
Anything because there -- these two back room deals made -- of them under confidentiality agreements and I would like let's get a check I think we could save a ton of money with that if I knew. For example I could go get a procedure done for 40% of what and hostile -- percent. Try try like there there is a 500%. Spread. In because of specific energy costs of Pacific -- like or use -- to -- somebody else is doing a for a thousand. And basically delivering the same outcome so if I knew that and then this insurance company could say enemy lucky you go to the place it's doin' it for 20% pull out of the costs of running out of the other place. Will give you I guess it's a ticket to go to a brilliant she's trying to bombs -- you know. That everybody about it Orleans or better yet knowing what's wrong with -- attention you got probably got no I don't normally -- but the larger.
The larger issue that did -- risen is is is is a good one and I it look. Business taxes unemployment insurance electricity costs healthcare costs and regulations I mean you just run again you can run the list here com and and and health care actually has to be analyst just like everything else in the first thing I would do is everything's got to be public every single for a procedure every single. Price and the performance associated with that and now we can get real about doing something about the other the other thing I would say she mentioned the border communities. -- mentioned it this to you were out there are tough you know. Most talking to a -- a package store below. And he said because of the State's. New tax on -- liquor and because of the State's deposit law. He can buy a case of beer for five bucks less in New Hampshire -- retail when he. Pays buying out wholesale Massachusetts and then his ability to compete against people and in.
So he can drive up to the New Hampshire liquor store on the highway and -- classroom -- he pays for wholesale coming into -- store -- and that's -- you -- the fact that his overheads are much -- his taxes are higher this there's a sales tax he has to have liability insurance retirement you're on the list -- that that the folks -- I have a feeling he's going up to New -- delusional -- let's get very Coleman -- cleaner and WRKO with.
Gentlemen thank -- my copy to -- and I'm because and I laminated. -- population and my own that's -- friends there's children there are exit it it's like an accident like one go to Connecticut frankly -- dynamic benevolent boat Rhode Island nursing an analyst actually answer. Just everyone liabilities. I'm the medical malpractice insurance I mean -- I'll bet you didn't say -- that a good did it again now.
No no your absolutely right and and this has been. This is one of the reasons I got into this race I was actually when I was still at Harvard pilgrim -- negativity from a lot of my customers about. Growth in the future in Massachusetts is so I looked at some of the data and we hadn't created any net new jobs in Massachusetts and ten years and this is before the economy crashed. We about 3.2 million people working here in 1998 and about 3.2 million people working here in 2000 what's the long term implication what the long term implication is what Kathleen is talking about which is over the same period of time. We started to see -- continued a significant drift out of Massachusetts. Among young people the eighteen to 35 year old people. Who basically said this the there's no future here for me there's no economic opportunity here for me I'm going somewhere else and that's despite the fact we have more colleges and universities they're -- so they come here to get educated then when they grow appearing get educated but they don't stay and they don't stay because we're not. Serious as a state about competing economically and creating economic opportunity for the next generation that's what I mean. A -- talk volatile Kathleen about the fact that. Some at the end of the day for me this is fundamentally about making sure that my kids and everybody else's kids have the opportunity to stay in Massachusetts and make a life in Massachusetts and don't feel like they have to leave just because their economic future somewhere else.
Marshall hi you're on the -- we Charlie Baker.
Hey Jerry the question one why won't more energy -- that gave. There's none of govern a huge number when she was in town last week why aren't you there's an actor supporting that although the -- was -- Republican you have littlest fans all of that of their.
It wasn't in the semi it was just another place around Massachusetts start to voters in Massachusetts look. I think the I think the Arizona governor. But some is is doing what makes sense for Arizona I mean their border state. They have a very permit able boarder around the anybody disputes that the feds are completely let him down with regard to protecting their border and she's taken this issue one. The state level on the best wish he knows how and I thought Dick Morris comments. I've known -- more for a few years states senate earlier this an -- talked about how an unfortunate it was that the federal government was gonna. Basically sue her over there inability to solve their problem. Mum was exactly right and and then an in the larger context of immigration policy in Massachusetts I've been out there with a very aggressive senator reforms that I think we should be pursuing a Massachusetts among other things. I was the first person to talk about reinstating the executive order that Mitt Romney was putting in place on his way out of office that Deval Patrick. Got rid of his son as he took office which would have basically created a standing relationship between law enforcement a Massachusetts in the Immigration and Naturalization Service at the federal level. So that we can actually -- poured. And act calm as immigration officers on behalf of the federal government. To get a lot of the illegals who are causing trouble and terrorizing neighborhoods and communities in Massachusetts out of Massachusetts.
Is the program -- Rhode Island has the right enough tackle last week -- NW RKO Charlie Baker here hi Ted.
Cali how are you today could -- would soon. Not so much -- tell our retina global Q cute is you know they're here socially to the left. President Obama what's up what you know what exactly did the globe. About being more liberal and the president and I actually I don't under Republican nominee got.
I don't remember the exact some back and forth in the conversation -- whatever is referring to is the time was gay marriage which I support and I support here in Massachusetts I think on most other social -- definitely go after the president probably who left a lot there to use me to the right the president and probably to the right a lot of the title.
On the globe and exact quote that I into the -- That I think he even got on any. That you weren't born go to conservative -- download a Linux -- a Republican from last night I don't appreciate --
I don't belittle social conservatives ever and I supported many social conservatives who've run for various offices around Massachusetts and and I'm a big believer and -- more than one point of view and a lot of these issues and fundamentally for me the big issue is. Where you -- be and the economic issues -- going to be and job generation where you going to be on tax cuts and re going to be getting people in Massachusetts back to work. But I have never dumb they look come some of -- a big believer in the Big Ten of the Republican Party -- a big believer that there's plenty room therefore. Com for social conservatives and moderates and the issuers referring to is was gay marriage so you were misquoted -- in this I don't -- I don't remember -- conversation I can -- the only -- I -- come to the -- of the president -- gay --
Okay 617266. Succeeds succeed. Joe your next NW RKO you're talking to Charlie Baker Republican candidate for governor.
I challenge you know look -- natural out of the I live to regret -- bracket oh sure yeah. I got a question for it under the quite literally in Randolph -- really -- I don't know -- million dollars. Yeah they cut accountable for the state to get 50%. So we get the typical also -- problem in your -- is giving money what do you do or at least earn their money back to the.
Look I I've made very clear since I got into this race that I do not believe state government should be balancing its budget on the backs of the taxpayers in the backs in the cities and towns which is basically what the Patrick administration of Beacon Hill have been doing for the past couple years. Instead of getting serious about reforming state government and streamlining the bureaucracy in reducing the size of state government. They've pushed most of their problems off by the taxpayers there isn't taxes and up under the cities and towns boycott local way to and I view what they did with the Quinn bill. As just another cut local -- And and I've said verve for a long time that I would want to restore that funding so that cities and towns. Which relied on it depended on and an expected it to be part of their operating model. We continue to be able to have that -- while going to go a lot of cities and towns are stuck still having to pay for on the whole thing is tied up in the court system at this point in time and then you target in Reynosa the only when their a lot of communities have been around to visit that is that look. You know every single piece of my stated -- cut including. At the very end of the budget process last year haven't come up with 50755200000. Dollars to fund this part of the Quinn bill. Now I do think going forward we're gonna have to come up with a different model because the Quinn bill for all intents and purposes is now eliminated. Men when I've kicked around with a number of people is the idea of making it possible for cities and towns to. To send officers to state colleges I'm state universities and state Community Colleges to pursue associate bachelor and graduate degrees. If they choose to wanna tuition free basis. And then let the communities Figaro that would -- is -- sorry the idea to permanently give them pay increases so -- communities figure out what to do and they in his own time but I do think the idea of full tuition reimbursement to the other accented police force -- good idea. But I have truly believe we should restore the funding America's as just another cut local aid. Another example of where the Patrick administration pushed its problem off on the cities and towns and figure it out.
6172666. Feet six even Texas sets 68680. It is Tom and Todd Tom is off today Charlie Baker Republican running for governor is here and -- your next NW RKO.
I mr. baker -- a year. I had I can tell your position and I -- beat Arizona State.
My position on casinos is I think I could see doing one casino in Massachusetts com. I get very nervous about this idea of doing three and the main reason for that is we really don't know what the economic impact of casinos are going to be where the social impact on Massachusetts overall. And if it turns out that it's not a big deal and a generally works okay you can always do another one after you do one. But this idea that we're gonna start with three I think is this is is a big big step and it could be a step in the direction that we're American alike down the road.
If you do wind and every other states had several open the door casinos you do one you end up with three might just have to have the discipline to behave yourself and where we gotta get that. Democrats can court control -- or not we're gonna throw a model I don't know.
At that the other thing I would say is it bothers me that we spent basically the past two and a half years debating casinos casinos casinos casinos Patrick administration brought it up. Keeps coming back keeps coming back and if we've been having the same kind of conversation in the same aggressive us something meaningful well yeah like around tax policy or regulatory policy or fiscal policy. We wouldn't be lean and on this is our big solution to our economic problem which it's not. Mean at the end of the day if we can get every business is currently in Massachusetts sire won -- two more people. We -- a heck of a lot more jobs we will with casinos.

I'm a question for you and I think and the question -- if you can kind of look at it it's based on and then back up. And is would you be willing to support legislation. Bit more closely monitored. Money going out of this country via western union. API go to -- Stop & Shop in North Andover. And nine times out of ten there's somebody wiring. For 5000 dollars in cash they've got it in a bundle okay. And I don't wanna be accused of racial profiling that you can extrapolate what you well on that you do you calling. I don't. But like the bank and I -- got 101000 dollars to pay tuition payment a special form have to be. Filled out by the -- that the act.
Act which actually is smart and I don't question. Now think I think I think your point is ago when Colleen which is that. Transactions that involve big sums of money generally speaking are supposed to be interactive that. And of flight time grand using -- sees right through most banking transactions it's anything about ten -- but I think there are the transactions in banking we can go as low as four or 5000 in -- being reported and the larger point about whether denied any of those transactions -- western union are being reported on I don't know about the that's a good question and one that's worth. An investigation.
Larry Wayne your next NW RQ Charlie Baker --
I get great Charlie and I'm I have worked. Question. Every -- help cure why can't this day and actor. Limit -- suits.
That's really that's really good question order form at tort reform and I've talked a lot about this on the campaign trail and it comes up all the time in state government and and generally speaking what usually happens is. -- against the lawyers stood toe in the in the Statehouse the -- loose and yet every doctor I've ever talked to says the the impact of of toward and the impact of lawsuits actually affects the way they practice medicine in my thought on this for awhile has been maybe you pick. One specialty and you could pick you know -- to pick a mobile -- way and it actually where they had a tough time with their cost source Phoenix event trouble with the neurosurgeons com where everybody acknowledges Massachusetts -- a shortage of practitioners in those areas and it's created access issues and experiments experiments output and as a demonstration create an alternative dispute resolution model for those folks since the offensive we can make some progress there on those but I I think you'll never get the whole thing. The sort of one big -- but there are areas that had an answer -- specialties where it's absolutely effective people's ability Texas Karen in the OB UN's Michigan almost argue that it's of -- some close to a public health crisis and maybe that should be the way to go try and do some them on and demonstrations you're since.
Hi Arthur you're NWR -- Charlie makers here.
That's that's in my crawl up Charlie's. You go to get my vote at their courage you know an automatic -- probably thirty to 35% of the vote that demolished so. So it's the other -- search boards which have to fight for. But my -- I think she can kind of -- first built actual reduction -- the hot button issue MacBook and double fault that people call from all over the you'll. Especially was gonna have to understand -- you're running a business you know what -- it straight technical backdrop so every thank -- around. And beyond -- able to get rid of otherwise it's biblical rapid that you have to give up. I didn't push by election have been so that you could bring him. A lot of state reps state senators on the Republican. -- a Republican W offers otherwise. You'll -- government is gonna be you -- started about a couple what you get a lot of people -- in the state house.
our third grade point thank Arthur I've been campaigning for a lot of people who run and for various some states senate and state representative seats because I agree with do we need. We big changes on Beacon Hill and I think basically I think we're gonna get them I mean their forty incumbents out of the 200 members of the legislature are running for reelection that's forty open seats right there -- gonna be huge -- They're too they're very different seven Republicans running for the forty seats in the house and about a group of forty seats in the Senate I think there -- a 110 Republicans run and for the 160 seats in the house and a lot of murder and oil and lot of very good and a lot of earnings her hard right candidates are working hard and I think a lot of -- gonna -- And the one thing you know it's there if there is I'm I think to myself as a 55 and five guy on the tax front I want. A 5% sales tax which means repealing the governor -- increase of 5% income tax which is with the voters voted for in 2005%. On the business tax. Which would be is 33 point 75% reduction in the business tax increase huge opportunity for businesses hire fairly well jobs are 1000. We're direction say you're running in the semis and I don't tell you this I'm we get around as early. We do a quick as the only guys actually put a serious plans for reforming state government cut state spending on the guys most likely to deliver on these tax Charlie Baker thanks for being here thank you -- have me say again tomorrow morning at 530 -- at 5:30 am joining -- that's a good time for -- NWR --
