When President Obama took the podium at Wednesday night's memorial service in Tucson, Ariz., he was greeted with the unbridled excitement of a college campus embracing their commander in chief. Cheers and screams and hoots continued even after he asked for people to sit down. As he started his eulogy, with the somber words, "To the families of those we've lost," voices still cheered and at least three people shouted out, "We love you!" It was not the way most memorial services usually kick off. What did you think of the audience reaction to Obama's speech last night?

Who should be responsible for Clearing Snow from Sidewalks?
Audio
Wed, 12 Jan 2011
A recent ruling by the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court makes it easier for people injured on snow covered walkways to successfully sue those property owners who don’t clear snow from walking surfaces. Winter is here and so are slippery sidewalks, parking lots and walkways. Previously, Massachusetts courts have ruled that a property owner cannot be held liable if someone is injured walking on new or what courts have called “natural” snow. Instead, owners can be held liable if someone walks over the natural snow and then another person falls down while walking on the same area of snow, called “unnatural” snow by the courts.

Back on the challenge any -- 617666868. If you wanna join us drop us an email it's the -- WR TO dot com -- Manning at wrko.com. We've been talking about this story in the Boston Globe today about a student at Arlington high school moves. Just wants them to save the pledge of allegiance that school every day and joining us is that student who's sort of leading the effort called Dan and he's paying attention -- mini so we appreciate that and how are you Sean Harrington thanks for joining us today.
I am doing great I'm just because I've had so much media attention today -- village. It's been quite injures -- and final day.
I'd -- has so tell me some of the media you've been getting today.
Channel five of course FOX & Friends on the fox news network come.
Modern national Fox News for Sean Harrington pretty good.
Yep goes on this -- parts of -- equipment foxnews.com. Home. Spirit WR KOR -- later it's like I'm Dan break.
Oh excellent that's terrific. Hey Sean so tell me all about this a couple of years ago you go up to the high school you're like a sophomore and you notice there aren't any flags in the classrooms. CF to go to what the principal and say. Wouldn't it be great to get flags in the classrooms.
Yet some what happened was. In my freshman year it started noticing that a lot -- cautions -- not at flags and then they started noticing that and then I became economy where where's the pledge. So what -- the principal. I'm part first guy what. And looked up as much information on and it's possible they found that according to Massachusetts general -- State law. Chapter seven he -- section 69.
It's -- that every school must stop for the pledge of allegiance and a group recitation. I want to let -- like confronted him with that.
I -- just and it that would like to get the pledge of allegiance from the school he said if you can get distinguishes safari -- be more than have -- to do it. But if I started I think I wonder if this is you know more in Canada or if it's just like -- but I.
So tell me growing up growing up in Arlington. Did they say you didn't like grammar school and enrolled in middle school did they say the pledge of allegiance every day.
Yet every day at comic party elementary school. And every day -- in middle school and also not assuming at a moment of silence.
That's -- nice so then you get at the high school so there's no flags and no pledge.
Exactly and it made no sense to me.
And I start my petition and they started asking -- and other schools to world peace it pledging their.
And over party they have my old principle. I'm retired and they had an impact on mastered this said the question yes I got a -- for students and she says and they told me they do not say the pledge.
And I had stayed in bed sick students work over.
I won't hurt and I start realizing how big is what I continue my petition I got the support of com. No conservatives. Christian singer -- music singer Charlie Daniels got a letter from John Kerry. Won for the school committee get the -- in the flags and.
Wait a minute flag to win a sect was John Kerry in favor the -- against the play our -- why are out there are good -- excellence.
and I went -- school committee and they went and said -- they basically several maybe that's why it's. And OPEC younger and four. Trying to get the pledge and but we don't think it's good right now. So -- she got. So I did any person Mike Hanley -- out there Leo I'm Irish descent. I continue to fight. I. Got war -- signatures I got a letter of support from Joe Lieberman. And from John McCain -- got done Christian my house I'm repetition. I got many of the people from the Tea Party express just signed that petition. And I have now over 700 signatures. -- well armed. About last week. --
Believe last week if it feels longer but. We work I like this school committee on the last day of school what can people behind me six of them being captured. And I went and asked -- I gave a very good speech I went says we owe it to the fallen. To end it once was served to have the project -- the ball in your court police make the right decision. And originally it got a pretty good joke current. What the school committee members who is a very avid supporter client. What can commended me another woman and then Cindy starts there what can. Set out. Few worse she -- even though I were discussing this because it's state law. Joe -- that that he supported me. Then they bought a woman -- Harlan spoke a school remembers she talked about how are care curt. All the men and our -- had been in the military however. What patriotism is a personal thing I don't think we need for we should -- our art teacher. And it started the best interest or school created itself then came on the other member Chris Yost and it begins much -- was there. And then -- and peers. Who I thought was going to support it came out. Bush I'm think that this was going to be me and it turned it -- go back to a age where people were forced to say the pledge. So -- is basically is idealist I don't want to suppress people treat the speech. So I'm going to stop your freedom -- speech. Right I'm didn't doesn't make any sense but Keating compared the state lockyer federal court case the federal stream court. Ruling of minors so I'm school district to. -- switched said that the pledge cannot be mandatory. They -- says nothing about mandatory -- but that the school must offer and the teacher or administrator must. I'm beat that person to recite the pledge.
Bright and like over this do they have a school loudspeaker system.
Had a loudspeaker system and that's what I've done it before. They came to a three -- three --
And they basically said Ari can I -- and thank.
They basically didn't catch what they should have done would continue the discussion or wait for the other member to come in.
Well at the next meeting but again they voted it down it continued on.
So wins the next meeting. I'd always be our 3 August 3 so you think you have the other vote if there's if this.
I don't know I would have the other local -- but what I can what I do think within the proper thing to do. And the right thing to do was to continue it. Until the next made it run because it was a typo and there's one member message. It's just common sense I mean. But anyways.
Art -- couldn't tell hold moments Exxon we're talking to Sean Harrington has the story in today's Boston Globe. About the town of Arlington which is great town just keep your -- knows where it is. They out actually to have need best cookies in the world what's the name of that great cookie placed in Arlington up in the heights. It -- coda -- creek folks if you never been to a -- big free day make the best cookies anywhere but anyway Sean has been leading an effort. To just get -- to get the folks at the high school. To say the pledge of allegiance over the loudspeaker every morning at the start a class and if students want to participate grade if they don't want to participate that's why we Sean. But he just thinks that that should be done -- in fact Massachusetts law back -- up and it says that. The do -- today that the that the pledge of allegiance should be said. In every school every day and for some reason and Arlington they haven't been doing it so we goes before the school committee. Obama couple of the members who said they were with them turned around and played games with them and it ends up being -- three to three vote them. And that's very interesting. And die so Sean now is looking for the next thing he can do to make sure that the pledge of allegiance is that it -- school -- what you're going into your senior in high.
Another thing that was found interest thing is that my principal Mr. Bush -- I'll get more.
I'd come up with an official. Statement saying that he is armed -- is come up -- a solution or compromise.
Tech could make both party happy.
Which is is that he looks like from the may not just into the law right and financial force school charged. He has this just a portrait of pledged. Come to school fight -- and join him in a recitation the pledging big all of that day like that is the that solution that he gave -- was a -- and I started the petition. I'm so you know guy I really note I saw that I mean. First I talked to injured and as we all know there are certain kids in schools I'm not saying in every school but.
Majority of schools or kids that you know like to -- you know the -- and like to just make fun of something because.
They can't initially if you -- doing. What would stop -- joining us in Singapore but doing something to tackle and then -- not some don't -- to one of the.
No I don't know look -- that Cambridge high school of all places they say it over the loudspeaker every morning. When the day starts they should do that at Arlington -- this is in the good compromise don't you you don't have to try to defend that on on her -- on. John hang -- hang out a couple of minutes got to take a quick break we're talking to Sean Harrington going into his senior year at Arlington high school. And he's been leading an effort along with a bunch of his friends he's -- 700. Signatures. To ask for one simple thing. Can we say the pledge allegiance to start the school day in our school. I think it's a great he died -- but nobody has dissipated Sean says if they don't want to. But it would be terrific thing to say it over the loudspeaker every day. And for some reason instead of acting is grown up this shot is the school committee's acting like a bunch of kids there's a guy named. With his new jokes and through those who wants to all the observance Supreme Court rulings or moose. What a phony and us aren't gonna keep fighting for its if you wanna talk to Sean give us a call 6172666868. We'll be right back after a quick thoughts on the Charlie Manning --
Let's -- Manning show we're joined by Sean Harrington who's going into his senior year at Arlington high school in his -- and a great job. All at once is for the school to say. The school authorities to say the pledge of allegiance over the out loud speaker system every morning to start up school day. Not a lot to ask enough he's -- the great battle they're digging in their heels and he steak and LaMont and we're real proud of -- Let's grab a couple of calls I know this and people want to speak to you. Craig in rock when your first which Sean Harrington.
Still there. Don't. You probably know that under -- Massachusetts constitution. Well maybe you don't who is the chief law enforcement officer in Massachusetts. Not to be Martha Coakley well above Martha Coakley our constitution gives Duvall Patrick if this election year. Duvall Patrick Carter -- ordering. These schools. To have their pledge that it that's his job he takes it all he wears an old to uphold the constitution. Undercard.
Saud is you to ever tried to get Deval Patrick decide near petition.
I know I haven't I've ever started out one thing that is part about adult school committee has also taken a note to. Uphold the law and actually and noble person in town that. Says that they will be right in my -- we'll be right no latitude. If there's all this continues to neglect the pledge of allegiance and they're both the process he will ask for their immediate resignation.

I think he should be applauded but did not all of them. It back it typical -- which it they have that we try it educate their. Part of -- I'm totally disgusted by what is school committee had done. I mean it did come to what I expect it so debate in the endemic to have the full pledged. That it school every single. Day I have a question but the school committee what they abused United States. Dolly is helped this school right -- every single day and I am attacked paid in college and and I bet I liked Italian -- decided. To -- a lot chat is -- not paid my -- and I would surely not get away with that.
That's absolutely true Janet takes of the call -- Sean thank you so much for calling in you do and a great job we're really proud of view. But keep fight eating and you know you're gonna win this battle there's no doubt in my mind so keep up the great work.
