Thank you -- congratulations to all three million farm belt as taxpayers of Massachusetts.
Well you know what what is what the we have to do next to what the back you up to help you while to get this did this referendum question passed on November 2.
Well we've got a web site Debbie Debbie Debbie got rolled back taxes dot com. You can visit there get put into the campaign sign up to volunteer to get about the the sticker to. Get our newsletter to donate. We've -- what the -- the take of these petitions that are expensive and difficult and shipping charges all kinds of things was built coming it would really help their. We need people that it's -- or it's not gonna that would be your friend over fourth of July weekend make you know let's make sure every parent knows that -- coming up. To cut are still sexy -- happy get a -- it would to a level playing field with New Hampshire. Would be great for shoppers great for retail business great for the economy create over 32000. New jobs Massachusetts we -- pop it up. And get expect it charged up and get ready for November.
Now why I saw on the pole the channel seven took last month the the -- Suffolk poll they said that that you guys only had a lead or we only have only I should say I guess of about eight points in you know I know that the that the pinky ring up public sector unions are gonna come after you with. With everything they've got in they're gonna spend probably millions of dollars. To steer the bleep out every all the -- people who don't pay attention they're gonna say -- you know what about the children and all this kind of stuff. How how we're you gonna deal with the the onslaught of of negative public sector union ads.
Well one thing that the other side is people are getting wise to. State government spending in Massachusetts they realize. That government employee pension is one of the they get the bulk of the tax -- People expect to realize that that government that was -- Of course that is very important functions. That far too much of that is waste and it -- spending and just low priority spending especially compared to indeed. To put that money back into the private sector back in the business is back -- city. -- the demands of men and women who earn them money it will create jobs and stimulate the economy far better than the government could ever ever hope to. So I think that the edit to change it with the Tea Party movement the town hall meetings of last year's. You are just waking up and neighbors they're reaching that. That breaking point and of course the economy. So it you know it's always going up in that a little it's still fundamentally pretty darn bad. People are hurting. And this Derek Fisher could actually get much worse you know they'd be they'd be extending -- the houses they helped purchase credit that has run up brought out there's all kinds of factors -- that could mean bad news for the economy and for. Massachusetts workers packed -- fortunately.
By the way there are some there are some proper two and a half override votes today in -- The do they want to why they're having a vote to was hike to meals tax to 7% you gotta get out vote against that. And I think Abington is having a they vote today on prop a proper two and half -- right now most argument people about Iraq when they say it's like going through. They you know what they're saying -- they have made the pro people say. Abington is forever then stepped to the green signs and so than the anti 821 half over right people came up with their own sign. They said red they have a red sign. -- override this forever either of those are really good comeback looks like it's gonna looks like the over -- is gonna be turned back but you're right I mean. People are taxed to the max and you don't know I think people have to worry about Carla I think and I don't think everybody is today yet focused on it. Is that the bush era -- tax cuts expire on December 31. I mean everybody is looking in the unless there's the massive change everybody's looking at a huge increase. In their guy in their income tax come -- December come January 1.
Just what we -- act -- and it you know it's it's gotten the point and that people. It that it needs to get too which is is that it's just. That the economy at this -- implode these and -- government employee pensions. They can't go want separate matter when they're going to implode this simply destroy the economy is just wrong it's. Unfair to millions of taxpayers who had no pensions as most people of the fact that they have no employer paid attention. They're paying their business for Social Security is not gonna get to retire to other much older. Well government played employees are retiring at my age in their mid fifties and even younger. Getting to be -- they kill us and now they can't is any better nice thing about this ballot initiative is. It gives us that they were real cool and give those running process a real tool for cutting taxes without there. If every challenger running for the legislature this year were to win it every single one of them was attacked other. There wouldn't be enough votes to pass the tax cut this is the only tool we have jointly with ever passed sexist in recent history Massachusetts the last time being -- to the deduction that. Governor 2002000. Not 2000. -- cut the income taxes five point nine but I'd mind very that was the last time that and let ads like.
it -- to 5% but a certain felonious speaker who should be imprisoned. Decided not to while allow the voters well to be it to take EM a fact.
He did -- the last 13 admit that took effect to -- you're after the election but let's not forget. That the income tax rate was five point 95% and it has stood at five point three. Now for ten years because of that ballot initiative. There's been no legislation. In decades of that hasn't done anything to cut our taxes are all done is to increase spending and increased taxes. This since its tool that we date. And that good candidates support for cutting taxes and cutting spending -- need in order to have any effect.
You know do you know -- I'm gonna anticipate we're gonna take some calls for Carla Howell here in a moment that 18774694322. But how do you know -- some other -- speaker isn't gonna doorway with this tax cut just like the -- crooked -- dead. End at ten years ago.
In recent history on our side the majority of ballot initiative that passed in Massachusetts and the -- today. And that's especially true and they take immediate effect that's why we designed this to go into effect on January 1 right after Christmas the Christmas present coming. And historically the legislators did not want and that was something. That is the voters and immediate payback for their belt right after the election history is on our side.
And it's also AA again that's if this is also be the way to kind of make back the fact that Barack Obama I am the and Harry Reid Nancy Pelosi whether they're in power not. Are gonna be pick in your pocket come January 1 this is way to get back some of that money.
It's it'll put an average of 680 dollars back into the pockets of 3400000. Taxpayers it will create 32000. Plus new private sector jobs in Massachusetts. It will -- half of the incentives for driving in New Hampshire. We're going on the Internet which helped retail businesses in Massachusetts and also attract shoppers from Connecticut Rhode Island in new York and even from foreign countries. This they might Massachusetts of the bargain if we lower our sales tax to 3%.
18774694322. If you wanna talk to -- Carla Howell from the alliance to rollback taxes they've got the signatures it's point to be on the November ballot. A referendum question to cut the state sales tax from six and a quarter percent. 23%. And don't forget folks -- Don't forget people voters electorate. The -- sales tax used to be just lose just a few months ago it used to be 5%. So it's it's they've increased it. 25%. And you know the other thing too was Carla you know I mean. If the ball Patrick is is reelected he certainly plans to increase the gasoline tax in if not if not the tolls as well. You know so I mean this again this is. This is striking the first of all to make sure that our standard of living is not. Is not cut even more to to provide for the hacks.
Absolutely -- that win. It -- all the more momentum to elect more good candidates tax cut or spending habits get a legislature and just improve things from there on into the future.
18774694322. Let's take some calls with Carla Howell. From the alliance -- rollback taxes this is the group that's trying to cut the sales tax from six and a quarter percent to 3%. George your next with how we cargo and -- Carla -- go ahead George.
Yeah -- just wanted to gonna say when I first became aware of all politically aware. Back in 6012 I think there was a one of them by of the airplane model I got my 99 cents so in the diet restored says. It really need another street sense -- that storm well. You know what can I really don't worry it's only temporary.
Right -- you're gonna say that's. It's one of those temporary taxes Carlo this is secrecy and that was the what was that George now it's 47 years ago an hour right.
Right and then what they -- they want from. I -- to a full time legislature --
I don't know I don't remember when they way they you were but they also had a slice metal legislature to because they said we would get better service we would get better quality legislators and two putted from our. 24260. That was in 78. Thanks for the call George 18 side door remember was a ia ha -- it was a temporary tax and the increase.
And I think it was temporarily raised to 5% as well though I haven't. Verified that that it was temporary it's three temporary aside and they deck at just six and a quarter were bringing it back. The story about it.
It's kind of like the polls you know I remember when they were paying off the the original bonds to build the turnpike the be it cost 25 cents at the Alston polls. And whether we paid off the bonds and now cost a dollar 25.
that's the beauty of -- that is we take a lot our own hands.
Chris you're next with Howie Carr. And Carla Howell go ahead Chris.
I -- Carla Carla I was wondering if you had reached out to -- car dealers mistake that it would be a natural constituency for this. Given the significant saving anybody pursued a car. Would receive -- as a result of Europe ballot initiative.
you know I have not. Made a concerted effort like did try to contact to be. Dealership read -- lobby group I can't remember the name now. And we had a person we had we were making calls the dealers and that we just got buried in about transaction which are about to be over thankfully. So that takes a look at our time and energy. Hey but if you're out -- card dealers or know any car dealers please get them on board -- your right they aren't natural. Constituency because. It can't go to New Hampshire to avoid this -- car they'll look it up when you register the card so. This certainly is a great benefit the other dealers and anyone buying a car.
Have the up pink hearing unions. Set up their -- generally just gonna operate out of their usual. Political action committees.
I know there's at least one that's been formed but I. I don't know in other big change the names they -- around.
I just wonder how much money they've already raised as you know the gonna throw millions that your.
Well there's there's the first report it doesn't come out till September so we don't know right now but -- yet so easy trade unions to raise money they pick up the phone and -- Washington DC here. Or or they get their own.
Right or -- they -- they assessed the money that's why you should go crazy be in a member reunion you know the the the money is assessed out of Arab do lose.
Yet they forced the big features that employees. The schools in the case the -- in two page is. And they get -- in budget out of this. And that you know it is really in my opinion it should be illegal at the conflict of interest sensitive for a judge to. To society in that case where is the -- people making money from the government to then take that taxpayer money and I -- once elections. That's -- real campaign finance reform should be focused but it's not currently so. We're gonna have to do a grassroots campaign. And I think it's time for it to have conversations with our. -- Are the silent majority and government -- art disgusted with the profiteering. Ones amongst them especially the don't lead of the unions. That are. Doing nothing but focusing on money money money money money and you know this is not what public service is supposed to be it's not like patriotism as it's not what what. Good serve good citizenship is about. We need to get government employee compensation in line with a fair market value -- these services. Not worn out west right now it's with the benefits they're saying it's way way out of whack and it is hurting people and bringing shame on a lot of these groups.
And I ice I don't know what you saw today with there was a there was storing the LA times about the a little community of city. East of Los Angeles and I guess what -- they've decided they're going out of business. -- that I filing for bankruptcy they're going out of business had. They they're gonna -- the gonna contract all of the all the law enforcement to the sheriff's department. And that in the -- at the other town just that the nearby a larger community take over everything and they said that they so we can't afford at the cops it was the cops specifically you drove him out of business. Because they were finally somebody injury claims they couldn't afford the insurance anymore and they said that's that were were gone.
It it this -- cropping up all over the country where. These towns and states are just going about it just it's it's gonna it's gonna happen more and more. We gotta face the music we've got to stop the bleeding we gotta get government spending under control -- this ballot initiative to roll back the sales tax to 3%. Is the most powerful tool we have to do it in Massachusetts.
Thanks for the thanks for the call Chris David your -- with Howie Carr and -- howl from the alliance to roll back taxes go ahead David.
I know as well hello to duplicate recommended approach to do advertising which I read that mentioned earlier about the think he raped. -- but that'll happen it did to make don't have a preemptive one. That -- did go to -- of the men -- says. Something along the line and in the coming months you'll be carrying had tremendous lists all that. The different dobbs point that the going to be making it just get out ahead of it because it's gonna happen as well it says then. And -- no serious we did we get our hopes up and then we just wash -- what should get washed out so good luck.
I think you're right I think you're right and people of course and take down an -- it is I like it. Recite it was at about the only. These fires schools and roads so my you know this is their cause that these -- of -- and the reality of it is yeah. You add up all that state and local spending in Massachusetts. -- like 2%. And -- at least 10% or less on firefighters and he either trivial parts of the budget. -- what they don't wanna talk about -- all the wasted tens of billions of dollars in waste and with god help people -- this year they usual sky is falling Montero. Police bicycle -- police as well roads. It is code word -- we're not telling you about this stuff. We don't think you'll be so --
I just I'm just imagining the ads and I'm thinking so I'm seeing schoolchildren on buses. High school football games and cheerleaders. Fire a police station or fire station with a slash closed across it. You you know a wheelchair. Being pushed over -- perhaps. You know lead the usual stuff I mean they it's like it's it's a playbook and you know the thing is you're you're right people are waking up more and more but they're -- they and the thing is they outspend you like fifty to one.
Well that's our challenge there's no question that it's -- challenge but. But it never know when things are gonna think we're ahead in the polls for the first time witness.
I'm glad I'm not I'm not a dirty thing I'm just saying its at play here really is a an uphill climb when that when your can your campaign you know that again they're making it seem like they're the it's a there'd be the people who wore you you know the average working Joe and then they have all the money.
Right they actually in -- ads have the audacity to call is government -- main street hello and but this is the talent and the opportunity for Tea Party years for. You know people who have just had enough for fiscal conservatives Republicans libertarian constitutional. Independence. People who just either writing.
But Democrats who have a job.
in -- a lot of Democrats to. There are actually sympathetic if you're at work -- campaigns is that they don't like government way. -- disgusted with a lot of what if they and they see this as an opportunity at least we certainly welcome. Ever want to get on board as a nonpartisan grassroots effort and this is our chance to take the energy that's out there. C and unfortunately this fear but well founded fear about where economy is headed. And do something constructive constructive about it and please do that it -- back taxes dot com.
Thanks for the call what David Jim your next with how we guard Carla Howell from the alliance to rollback taxes go ahead --
Guys are cowards and regulations are just being tirelessly and -- on our behalf they might suggestion is. That you focus really strongly on the job that your gonna create. The those 32000 got to bring a lot of income tax and a Massachusetts. And I think it would really help them go a long way if you could go that route and the focus on that commit these huge benefits us. -- I very much good luck.
Thank you like create jobs that is the number one issue a lot of people's minds and jobs is what is probably yen in my view the biggest benefit of going -- inspect the sales tax of 3%. It will create a -- almost 33000. Private sector job. It's the only way to create and net increase in jobs what went government says oh we're gonna -- it added stimulus we're gonna. We create -- what they're doing it actually. Destroying two jobs in the private sector for everyone they crate with taxpayer dollars because it's so wasteful so. The only way to improve our unemployment. Crisis here. Is substantial. Tax cuts and government spending cuts. And -- rollback taxes they'll set the 3% is it's -- that we have available to assist here.
They should call Jim wreck your next with how we car and Carla Howell from the alliance to roll back taxes or rhetoric.
I accelerate voted -- ballot initiative last time around to abolish the stating some facts about. Regrets that it didn't go broke my question this time around -- past -- with the sanctions themselves. That is. Can't you. Legally. Curtailed benefits to existing retirees there is that they'll open it up you are. You are pension reduction initiative on day. The state contributions. To future retiree. Well.
I think the entity that is probably pretty complicated there are cases. Where. Contracts are being renegotiated all over the country are springing up. Where it just become unaffordable and now they're the opposition and the politicians throughout an acclaimed. Their hands are tied there's nothing they can do about it of course -- and politicians are giving away -- contacts as they say these important but. In reality they can do a lot of what they want to especially when things get desperate when there's no money there. Things are gonna change and we're getting to that.
That's the easy you know edited it happening in -- all over the --
It's called chapter nine they were different that they have different say you know chapters them those of us in the private sector might think it's called chapter nine for municipalities are government entities.
I think a lot of that the negotiable I think health care benefits are often negotiable. Co pays and deductibles and all kinds of terms it it gets quite complicated. And within government you'll find that it -- Massachusetts there are many many different. Packages depending when you're hired what agency you work for. It's it's quite a complicated -- but I I think it's safe to say. That the legislature has a lot of -- much much more than they're going to admit to. And apparently went things in finally -- they're gonna do whatever they have to I mean they've ruled. They don't have to pay any about Social Security that was as the Supreme Court ruling that says congress doesn't have to pay us. Social Security -- it doesn't want Phil yeah. How can it be that -- a thing as outrageous is that what people -- paying in so much money. -- payroll taxes all their lives. Could be told there's no obligation. And yet there is some obligation for government employees. That that just doesn't pass the -- I -- we have to get.
Course there's an obligation to -- pay your fike. Deductions or you're going to present. Right but they don't but it's it's optional for them and you don't and -- that there may be means testing don't even though there you know also in other words if you saved money end you know you've manager finances wisely. You might be penalized down the road. It's it's just a you know the thing is I think the thing is Carla you discover -- stress and and you and I know this and most of our listeners do. You just gotta start of these people that's the only way to what to stop the don't spend every dime they gat.
They will and that's why they're gonna fight it's not gonna bother. To. Go -- it from millions of dollars that trying to defeat this. Analysts there is. Plenty of gravy that's perfectly easy to repeal and remove I think they know that darn well but they're gonna try to scare people when in fact. There's just. Many many places where they could cut spending there's actually 52 billion dollars total the the state government is spending bail late.
A billion dollars a week about a billion.
Point eight billion they like to talk about that's one of four budgets they're total spending in 52 billion it's been norm. And much of that is not. Published none of those published in detail we can get it in the this is how how outrageous the waste is but we know of lots of lots of anecdotal. Pieces of waste we know lots of Pacific areas.
I read about it every day yes so does everybody else but it's -- what is the again what is the did the web address of people wanna get involved in the campaign we -- they are we gonna leave you now.
Okay rollback taxes dot com.
Rollback taxes dot com. Okay -- will be in touch with -- was is believe this summer in the fall like go on and good luck and congratulations on getting on the ballot.
Thanks then -- her -- then please join enrolled -- about comments. Gonna be a great year.
Thanks -- 18774694322. We come back we'll talk about the governor's race in the latest polls. -- how we are joined WRKO and the American Red Cross on Thursday July 1 for the.
