Acknowledging it would be a highly unpopular move, White House economic adviser Paul Volcker said yesterday the United States should consider imposing a "value added tax" similar to those charged in Europe to help get the deficit under control. A VAT is a national sales tax that, like state and city sales taxes, would be collected by retailers. Do you support a VAT in the U.S.?

For generations United States is nuclear deterrent has helped prevent proliferation. By providing power not a nuclear allies in NATO the Pacific and elsewhere.

With reassurance and security the United States must make much needed investments to rebuild our aging nuclear infrastructure both facilities and personnel.

He was the Federal Reserve Chairman on there Ronald Reagan is getting a little right as they say but. He is still -- an alleged adviser to Barack Obama mainly because of what I'm about to tell you. Barack doesn't like to hear anybody contradict them you know it's it. So. Paul Volcker has decided that he is in favor over value added tax a Levy on all the goods and services that you consume. So Cindy was our poll question and one of the results thus far.

Are you in favor of a Batman have value added tax after Nidal. I'm I'm clean off at currently in the 67%. Saying yes that that's that's probably 21.

At this point we just put up a couple seconds ago so -- I have a feeling that will change more than site who saw over the -- actually. The value actor I heard one of the shells. For a first CNBC today talking about it. Now you now -- Republican thank you like this but -- you know they they got to do something about the the terrible problem of the death threats.

Or about -- Italy when you're there excuse me with -- of that in Italy.

The prices were pretty damn high blood -- the last thing -- ever been to France there's a back there and.

Part of the deal you can make with somebody's they would they won't charge -- if you swear deal fill out the form at the airport otherwise they did that depend attacks.

I am telling you I I didn't even read the story yesterday there was a story on -- one of the organized crime web sites earlier in the week. About the fact that they are they're hijacking cigarettes again I as I predicted that I know that I. The higher the prices go for anything the more likely it is that your gonna you're gonna have a black market and it. And the cigarette taxes have reached a level especially in places like new York and Massachusetts. That it's it is again profitable you know that the people who drift that out of the cigarette smuggling and got in the cocaine and marijuana and various other forms of drugs over the last twenty years. Now -- they begin to see that there's really. -- equal profit or nearly equal profit in that in hijacking. Yeah in hijacking goods into M by the way if you get if you go to this value added tax. You know hijacking is gonna come back in a big white truck hijacking another thing that it's you know hasn't been as big in the last few years. But you that's that's one way to beat the value added taxes it is just I just don't I just don't understand that -- why. Why we're are taxing ourselves and spending ourselves into oblivion I mean I amnesty again Barack Obama not the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree not the sharpest knife in the -- just eight. Any any empty suit I understand that but the the fact is it it's the voters fault for putting them. Pelosi hairy -- the biggest -- of all Joe Biden all these idiots in office in there they're just gonna drag down the entire economy. And now -- of they're floating these trial balloons you a couple of weeks ago was Charles Krauthammer. He was warning people. But this was this was comment. And now they're actually starting to -- the trial balloons to to judge exactly what the opposition level -- To a value added tax I just want I just cut its rise Roy told Deval Patrick last week you know what would you like to cut. Anything I would cut anything rather than raise taxes could I think most of what government gives us is not -- You know it's (%expletive) its its just you you know Lisa giant. Cancer like bureaucracy sporadic and and just. Taking over whole segments of the the economy and everything else it's just horrible. 187746943221877469432. To support CBS money watch. Has that lead to -- leapt right on this site -- of a value added tax. Nearly every other industrialized nation has won and the idea here is beginning to spread. Oddly enough to be editors beginning to spread among a people who have been all have these after their name. Kent Conrad. If you bitter Republican a Republican froth it's a Democrat muses on NC BS speak. Has mused that of that has got to be on the table Nancy Pelosi has murmured. She never murmured any thing. Should remember worded -- you go to the dermatologist -- shot.

Bruce Bartlett a former Reagan economics adviser who supports of that says the U -- No the US needs a self help for the US government needs a twelve step program to wean itself from the US. Government doesn't need a money machine that's the last thing it needs. Of that because it touches every transaction is just that the congressional research service estimates that. Each 1% of value added tax would raise fifty billion dollars that's real money. There's very little chance in the next few years says Brian Harris a senior research associate at more bookings -- left of center a think tank but a substantial chance in the next decade or so again there this is why there were. They're for the trial balloons now. About a 150. Countries have of that it comes in various shapes and sizes ranging from 5% and Japan's 45% Swede again. This is the same argument they make was raising the gasoline tax of five dollars a gallon. Well if you go to Europe gasoline costs so much more I know that's why I was glad to come back from Italy I like -- but I didn't I -- like the gas prices that much. The battle. For those of you don't know this is assessed on a good at each stage of production and distribution. When the raw material is sold when the product is manufactured one store stocks up when the customer buys it. So if it's Heidi if it's hijacked from a truck. After it's manufactured the moon. You avoided at least through levels of the bat right the value added tax. When a business calculates its about payment it deducts the tax -- at the previous stage based on records every company along the chain keeps. The price this process effectively hi -- hides the bat for more open view. Unlike state sales tax is the -- is buried in the price of the good not assessed that the cash register. You know kind of like the excise tax in Massachusetts on cigarettes and alcohol. But then finally that wasn't enough was at the EB the hidden excise tax on alcohol and cigarettes. They had to put a sales tax on both products and anybody who thinks that victim who bid the of their income taxes. Or their property taxes or their state income taxes or any other kind of taxes going down because the value added taxes on. Is dangerously. Delusional and should probably not be voting. But make no mistake even CBS has to admit that CBS. CBS. They have the cut through the BS CBS does admit. By 10% -- would raise the cost of everything 10%. -- back taxes back home -- one reason Europeans love to shop in the US. The bats efficiency and raising money is also why some oppose it even -- of bats started little low levels say 5% it's easy to increase the rate as your approach proved time and again. We we -- people -- come calling and argue for sales tax and national sales tax the sale that was the best way to go. And I -- always say to them it yeah yeah that's a great I -- but you know old you're not gonna give a cut in your income tax if we put a national sales tax on me they might say. Okay we're gonna cut the income tax found a 50% or 10% whatever. But you know damn well be income tax would then start creeping up again and you have this national sales tax which would start creeping up again. They. One tax is too many and a thousand taxes are not enough these people attacks on politics. You can use the same language as as any kind of self help program. They have to go into recovery. They have to stop taxing and spending. It's killing the country it's killing the economy they're going to bigger and are they going to destroy. What took over 200 years to build up if they don't. If we don't get a hold of him if we don't intervene. They need any intervention here to stop them and the of intervention comes on November the second. 18774694322. Alan Greenspan. Yeah. I know you know what we gotta get this a woman on not a good it was emitting a -- shall ways search site -- pronounce Alaska and she wrote the forgotten man. About public -- it's about how why FDR. In the late thirties he made the depression worse the country was starting to pull out of it and he just. And they kept and the worst the the economy got the more government programs they set up the more onerous the tax burden on the the so called up the Democrats and of course the poor -- weren't really hurting it was the people the world bill couldn't get jobs because the economy had been destroyed by FDR. And it it's it it's this it's the same pattern is repeating itself. Bill your next what how wake.

People like MSNBC in the New York Times.

But how right we can't we can't just try and compensate. It's done.

No I'm I'm saying let's vote the rascals out -- not -- yeah. That's just that's what you gotta do -- when you start packet talking about what taxes are acceptable. Then your play in on the air field bill. I you just gotta say no no tax no tax increases acceptable we've got to start rolling back. All the taxes that are currently on on the working people the United States of America.

Tax cuts are sunset at another great works in the case of a tax cut it is can be sunset at. In the case of a new tax imposed there is no such thing at the sun never sets it's like the British empire right the sun never sets. On a tax increase on a tax cut may be. So the bush tax cuts are going to be sunset that it as a Virginia worry 12011. And of course see if there is a Republican. Takeover of congress don't try to reimpose them but Barack Obama being the tax Pollack Betty is. Will will -- don't so they'll -- you'll -- two thirds majority Woolsey I doubt but I doubt it's gonna happen so taxes are going up. The good at at the state and local level you know taxes are grown up you've already seen it here in Massachusetts the sales tax is up 25% the new taxes on. On not alcohol following that do tax on its sales tax on cigarettes. The day the did the -- meals taxes up. These cities and towns have local options on the meal packs they just saw that last week -- Burlington. Home of the Burlington mall in many restaurants another part of Middlesex County along 128. They just too jacked up there were did their meals tax another three quarters of a percent. You know it's -- they're gonna try to was the gonna try to make up for for these increasing deficits anyway they can't. And now we're talking about a giant giant tax. You know -- that you could. You couldn't go somewhere other than Burlington the -- better right and you could be that it's that three quarters of 1% increase in the in the meals tax. If you need a new washing machine and there's a value added tax on a -- to be able to beat backpacks. Failure I don't. You know. All you were talking about all law clerk yes and actually appointed by Jimmy Carter. And in -- all children must OK the main job. Well this to us slay inflation which was really bad that's why you drove up interest rates so why that's that's basically why. Carter didn't get reelected.

Oh yeah about it I remembered well.

Right but but Reagan Reagan kept them on because she knew was necessary to time. Now as far as value added tax is go. We have morning.

I don't know your gonna say that I that doesn't make it right that doesn't -- you don't you you also how much is a pack of cigarettes cost in Canada.

Why don't smoke but I think it's surrounded by --

Well I don't want hey I don't smoke either but I don't want eight bucks cigarettes so I mean the fact that it's in Canada that does a day you you guys have socialized medicine don't again we've been over a million times. The the premier prime minister of Newfoundland had to come down here to get an operation that --

Well because you wanted to editors three million dollar Condo Ber mud will anyways but let me just let me just finish this point okay. Other value out of it actually caused the GSP here goods and services start. They'd bring saying a huge amount of money and the only reason why government brought -- there's it's it was incredibly unpopular. What they did bring it and is because they had a choice Billy either cut Medicare. Cuts Social Security. Cut spending on military. Or bring in the top.

I have an idea let's first who will repeal Obama care battle beast that'll be step one than bill let's reconsider the value added tax. Then what about cutting it there will start deporting illegal aliens OK Steve. I have to say I you know these these are the scare tactics that there trotting out here right and it's AA history is repeating itself south of the border.

Yeah about how he you've got to face the fact that in the United States. You have a hundred -- trillion dollars worth of unfunded liabilities. So either you're gonna cut the military. You're gonna cut the Social Security or get a cut Medicaid and Medicare for.

You know one you know what I think you're right that we're gonna cut -- cut it anyway you know so I'm I'm already. Are resigned to the fact that a -- any Social Security payments that I collected might. Gold in years so called going to be your -- be a mere pittance of what I paid into the system by just like to think that my father got it for forty years. So may be that kinda evens it out to -- got he got up a lot more than he paid them. I'm not gonna give back any thing. -- I thought I don't -- the thing is this is just this is like give no wind no more bull -- there might not gonna spend this money wisely they're just gonna take it out of my pocket they're gonna take out everybody's pocket who works and give it to people who don't locked up. Tired I'll -- What's funny about that I didn't mean that the BO punch line I'm serious.

Knowledge I just likely Miguel wound up by me you're you're amusing god that's why -- listened to all the time.

Why don't you owes you not just audio -- All right all you have -- have you lose your paws that's good I'm glad to know that Steve. Thanks for the call 18774694322. Public liberal and -- they amuse YouTube. 18 -- Gonna get a good look cool off so I -- it really. We monopolize all -- how far do you think they're gonna get when they get -- W it's number one. Yeah but the chain I think again we're we're dealing here and a it in a fairy tale world if you think that the income taxes ever going to be where he.

Up okay yeah so I. --

What you're gonna have this you're gonna you're gonna have -- a world a new world all right but it's going to be a nightmare world with a value added tax and the net income tax.

You know I'm I'm talking about this. Some I think it until -- really going to be limited access down. I I think that we really a way to handle it actually repeal the federal income tax on every lunch and then and I'll. The -- any illegal immigrant about the way I would take a lot of red and I didn't see countries out -- and I know that -- but the big moon ballot argument Saddam. I really think a -- a lot of preemption --

I I don't think I I don't want any more new taxes -- I just. I've I I have become a packs a fall by and I and I don't think that these people were able to control themselves. You could he you don't even if you put it on the blocks as a as -- an amendment to the US constitution saying that there couldn't be an income tax. Day in a in a few years they would be back banging their ten -- you know saying we've got to bring the income tax -- original what you could never give it repealed anyway. You can never get it on -- on the constitution is an amendment so way you know all. It is and what is -- word war why is there word worth I mean you know. Barack Obama said that I'm gonna get exactly that he did appeared today again the exact quote. But it during the campaign I am not going to raise your taxes if you make it over to under 250000. The fact is they're not gonna the they're not gonna do away with the income tax listen and again. I don't care what Barack Obama or any of the Democrats say listen this is this is from the 2008 campaign this is from the American spectator today. Barack Obama 2008 and he said this over and over yet. I can make a firm pledge under my plan like he had a poignant. No family making less than 250000. Dollars a year will see any form of tax increase any form. And and what what does it to three months later he jacked up the excise tax on cigarettes. I believe that is a form of taxes you could say it's bad to smoky it's only 20% of the American adult population smokes -- it is a form of taxation. Not your income tax not your payroll tax not your capital gains taxes not any of your taxes and it's just not true and they had they they they don't have. Any intention. Of abiding by their campaign promises space for the called -- John you're next with how we cargo ahead John.
