When President Obama took the podium at Wednesday night's memorial service in Tucson, Ariz., he was greeted with the unbridled excitement of a college campus embracing their commander in chief. Cheers and screams and hoots continued even after he asked for people to sit down. As he started his eulogy, with the somber words, "To the families of those we've lost," voices still cheered and at least three people shouted out, "We love you!" It was not the way most memorial services usually kick off. What did you think of the audience reaction to Obama's speech last night?

    Wed, 12 Jan 2011

A recent ruling by the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court makes it easier for people injured on snow covered walkways to successfully sue those property owners who don’t clear snow from walking surfaces. Winter is here and so are slippery sidewalks, parking lots and walkways. Previously, Massachusetts courts have ruled that a property owner cannot be held liable if someone is injured walking on new or what courts have called “natural” snow. Instead, owners can be held liable if someone walks over the natural snow and then another person falls down while walking on the same area of snow, called “unnatural” snow by the courts.

We're back on the Charlie Manning show on WR Treo 617666063. Number. They're getting ready to have a press conference in Washington to announce the latest key -- I mean plain and Nancy Pelosi in the gang. So will be keeping you up to date on that looks like the vote's going to be Sunday. And on we have to start thinking that if they are able to do this if they are somehow able to rim the -- through. What's it gonna mean for healthcare in America. And a group called medic medic gets firm did a national survey of doctors. And they did it just just before the end of last year and they asked doctors. The your feelings about health care reform and they asked them. Why how what affect health care reform that is being proposed would have. On near futures in medicine in this all of you know one of the great questions in this health care bill is. How do we about the health care bill is how do we. Who get thirty million more people. On board. The healthcare system when the number of doctors isn't gonna go up significantly. And what if the number was actually gonna go down. So we ask Steve marsh to come on from medic is to talk about this poll this study that they did of doctors' attitudes toward. Health care reform and we will commuted the Charlie Manning show on WRK on Boston Steve. Are you there. Steve marsh. -- any. Anyway Steve marsh from Medicare -- there.

Ray -- you welcome to the Charlie Manning John WRKO radio in Boston. We've been looking at the surveyed that you did of doctors. And you did it in the interesting way you asked them how they would respond to health care reform. If it had the public option but also if the public often was taken out. How would they react to it for instance looking at the type of legislation that we are looking at now with out the public option with that taken out. And US doctors how that would affect your future and what did you find.

Well it found that a significant number of doctors. If if they'll have helped reform comes through with the public option. That large majority of physicians. Are going to be very discouraged it would ditched it in and pursue other options.

But if but we're looking at legislation now with out of public option and that seems to be what's gonna paso. But that number drops from about a half to a third. Okay in what the doctor saying to you about it you know a good friend of mine who's a doctor the other day said yeah I heard your radio show when you're talking about health care and you know to -- you tell your listeners. That the best thing they can do when it comes to health care reform in making up there their minds on it is talk to your doctor. Ask your doctor what they think of it. And it appears that doctors don't think very highly of this do that.

No they don't I think what was that -- survey we have no idea that it could turn out we had no idea this. This survey would it dismissed interest. Well we got the when we got results. Positions clearly. All I think -- in favor of -- health care reform. Just not the current health care reform that. Distinguished right now.

In what would that do what we have what just less than a million doctors practicing doctors in this country right. Yet 900 and something thousand and they're talking about adding thirty million more people into the health care system. But if the doctors are being up front in this survey conducted. About a third of them said did it this past. They would seriously consider leaving medicine. Which with significantly. Cut the number practicing doctors.

And that's the that's the scary part about the situation and them. Actually happiness is the physician shortage actually been discussed I think it's largely been. Just not discussed at all and it in the current situation status quote twenty or -- there's the Bureau of Labor Statistics as that is it 20% increase. 082018. Positions. If he had thirty to forty million. People into the system that are obviously that's gonna increase. Based on this survey. What was. I don't think. You know positions in the thirties and forties they've -- Mike is disgruntled and they might be very upset. I don't know but just. That's and do you know -- another occupation right off the bat but I mean that we've percent. Of our respondents. We're physicians -- practice. You know over 21 years. And -- got it -- 50000. Roughly positions in the country that are donated fifty what do you think of large segment of protective positions right now. Are in a position issue -- similar attire. Get fed up with fitness they announced --

We're talking with Steve marsh from the Medicare it's firm on the Charlie Manning showed today and WRKO 617666068. The number. In were thinking ahead now what it's Nancy Pelosi in the game can ram this through and Obama President Obama signs it. What is going to be the effect on our health care system and already. We're seeing stories out there that are telling us what that effect is gonna be. In a one of those is this amazing surveyed the that the medic is firm did of doctors. About a third of the doctors in America said that they would consider leaving. In stock practicing medicine. If health care reform passed. And about 50%. Of doctors according to this. Predicted health care reform. Would cost the call -- medical care. To deteriorate in America 50%.

Is that writes the yes.

In when you talk to doctors what what is their major major concerns about all lists.

Well I think that you know positions are concerned about. Just. Just -- an overwhelming volume of patients. In a situation where most physician practices. Are people. Or are. Yes you're talking about a volume of patients. You know there's there's just not enough positions. Providers they're these. You know serviced terrorist and -- of what's what's going to be coming emphasis. If if and when this is.

Now you are -- one of the things many cases this is a national search firm for doctors and in you go out and help doctors. Move about the country into the different mental systems that they wanted. We always think here in Boston that because of the great medical schools. Because of the great teaching hospitals we have been in the health care system that we have here in the state. That it's an attractive place for doctors to work is it.

I think Austin eight you know as the market. -- you know has but. Extremely good training programs then a lot of people like Austin went to live -- You know position shortage in Austin but I don't think should be anticipated. I think -- what what lost quite a bit. Is. Yeah most people much spot and areas. Don't see the shortage like like other communities do and that this has it at home. Unfortunately when it. You know if this thing right here is if things occur like could -- based on. The positions response -- Along with a number of positions which is -- Retire because there. You know at that age. Just huge burden.

In you know what else have also seen Steve who is here in this area. A lot of doctors I know seem to be moving from. The key here a patients. Into more admit -- to -- posts within hospitals or different medical groups. We did they cut back the number of days they actually see patients to may be one per week. And I think that's another thing we could see happening. If if Obama care passes. Which again would make it much harder for people to get the type the care that they have had over the years.

Correct I think if you look at the respondents that 30%. There are so what percent of people that. Respondents saying that they might look at. And other. Avenues. That would certainly be an advocate positions pursuit or non critical roles. You know drug companies things like that they can. Maybe because research into other things besides the local air.

Clinical care means taking read that -- the jargon and aerospace yet taking care of people seeing patients and helping them get well that's what we're talking about. -- excellent Steve thanks so much for coming on today we really appreciate it and I I think this is the type of thing we're gonna be seeing in the future and I think the information you provided really helps people see through. What the effects of Obama here is going to be and we thank you for joining us on the Charlie Manning show.

It 6172666868. Are number 6172666868. Our number. So that's one thing that we have to be concerned about. The proof is right here in this poll of doctors. If Obama care passes about 13. Of those doctors will probably stop seeing patients. Everybody around here knows how hard it is to see a doctor. It's gonna get much harder Rogen and more people moving into the health care system thirty year four million more I think there. Folks in Washington are crowing today about. And then. So you're gonna have fewer doctors practicing. According to this poll. The doctors also believe that. 50% of them half of doctors believe that health care reform will cost the quality of medical care. To deteriorate. In America. Half of the doctors think our health care will be worse not better. That's not a good thing 6172666860. -- the number. And we're talking about the health care bill Washington there's so many other things that were seen. And will be bring you up to date on the -- we go through the show today. And we look forward to hearing from you 6172666860. Dermatology in --
