State treasurer. And independent. Candidate for governor Tim Kay hill and had a press conference. And to what he was doing was responding to some attacks that Governor Patrick it halted so it hurled his way that. Ten K hell hadn't done anything to. Control health care costs and hadn't made any proposals. That type of thing. And so we called Tim -- hill and we said what happened at this press conference and what happened was amazing. He stood up and outlined what was really going on with the Massachusetts Health Care bill. And he said because Obama care in Washington that it's gonna be voted on this week is so much like Massachusetts. I'm urging the members of our delegation to oppose it because we don't wanna go down on the same line that we have here in Massachusetts. -- costs have been spiraling out of control and costs have been spiraling out of control. And that's where we're headed with Obama care so learn from your home state members of the Massachusetts congressional delegation. Tim Cahill then -- was detonate ten K yield the first candidate in this governor's race. To be very critical of the Massachusetts built in to speak his mind on what was going on Washington. And it's set off a firestorm all around the country. I -- got home last night popped on the Drudge Report there was the story Massachusetts state treasurer. Speaks out on Obama care. Everybody all of a sudden wanted to talk to -- K hill. And he's been a very busy guy today on Saint Patrick's Day has been on a lot of the network news a lot interview shows. And we're happy that he has the time to come back -- on the Charlie Manning said this afternoon. Welcome back mr. state treasurer and happy Saint Patrick's Day.

That's exactly. All right. -- let's just for folks who weren't listening yesterday afternoon just quickly tell them what you said it your press conference up at the Statehouse yesterday with the Boston press. About the Massachusetts Health Care bill.

Well what -- added that without federal support. In the -- the been very generous to us in is not good doesn't it scare our state would be bankrupt connect. If if we were if we were told that we had to carry the whole -- that this helped give bill has not worked yet it was designed. And it not been executed very well there it's very well. In it it's -- at -- down tremendously it is its car if you total budget it's forcing -- cut elsewhere. In order to keep this subsidies patient go in what I want people is if if the national player and the plan the Democrats pushing a Washington. Is the same and -- been told by David Axelrod. We've been -- like David Axelrod the president's top adviser that is the same plan modeled after the Nazis display. If we go to that wrote and would bankrupt the country.

One viewer rolls the state treasury is sort of being the top. Fiscal analyst for the state you're you're like you're paying the bill so you're watch and the money go out. What if you've seen is is it. It's is it getting worse each year during your time the state treasurer since we pass this is the spending just going up up and up.

Well we can -- we get noticed it the first year what that the recession hit that we started noticing. That. Our cash flow was was getting tighter and tighter. We're getting harder for us to -- pay our bills. Meet our obligations. And we never could get any cash. So we we get we attributed that to the crashing 2008. Or if you're -- a -- credit dried out it would also knew that revenues war. Following got tremendously in this state of Massachusetts. But even since the crashing since we've stabilized. -- they're not only from cuts in government not enough but there's been some. Of it would drug on the rainy day fund it we've got all -- federal stimulus money was still struggle. We are still going week to week and month to month to make sure it borrowed money that we can pay our bills and what the big problem with that. Is get this help you get an error. We got the -- of the federal government to reimburse and that has been putting. -- real crimp on our cash flow. You know ability to pay our -- So -- just -- all the money borrowing money short term or if the pay bills waiting for revenues come in waiting for tax revenue is becoming -- It has become clear to what -- if is really what has been writing debt problem that actual problem we've just been pouring money out to cover people to cover more more people. Now we've got more to -- we have more people -- fault subsidized health care and it is it it is stretching into our system. And the basic yesterday what treated the analysis we've figured it was painful billion dollars more data or paying 2006. Just the network lineup. For Medicaid in war healthcare reform.

So that's sort billion dollars in a budget that's what about 28 billion -- That's amazing. Gosh yeah more than 17. So anyway.

Net asset based on the fact weren't bring in about eighteen billion dollars in revenue. They be left out by eighteen of the 28 billion -- what we get that includes a lot of the reverse -- to get the federal government you know. Transportation money healthcare Marty -- Medicare on record stop. So we it will really taking a lot of money out of our flat revenue so it really a bigger percentage than you would even think. If you look at the moderate revenue will bring -- it eighteen. It was spending. More than half -- just on health care costs. These aren't providing basically. Subsidized health care for seniors for the indigent and for now people are covered it does help a lot.

So this is state treasurer an independent candidate for governor ten K -- joining us on the Charlie Manning show. So he can he holds this press conference in he comes out and says something that. Nobody else running for governor would say in no state officials would say that. This is running this health care program is running our state into the ground. And you're and when you save did the emperor has no clothes when your independent enough to stand up there and say that. The people who are invested in this health care bill are gonna come out and go after you. And so you turn to the Boston Globe today and on the editorial page they have. Health care costs require action but K -- attacks won't help. And they say ten K -- denunciation. Of the states. Much foray east 2006. Health care overhaul is in irresponsible. Active demagoguery. And then in the next paragraph they say. -- those running for governor is -- in the instant as an independent is a right of course in pointing out that health care costs are growing and unsustainable level. And weigh heavily on the State's economy so you told the truth. Right that even this globe editorial says you're right but it was an irresponsible. Act of demagoguery. Mister K -- hell.

Well I mean I have it as treasurer. I've always been damned if I did and it if I didn't. -- to tell the truth and tell people what the people don't often want to know what something costs. But they will make decisions based on those -- if you tell. It would run a school building authority will -- actually told people what it cost the old school and we've asked them to participate in paying for those schools and guess what. The prices have come down. We're building more schools cheaper today -- seven years ago.

You mean not more -- hall Saudi Newton.

You know we know more. -- I mean it because in those days before we took over this program the state was on the hook for 90% of the money. It nobody got to worry about paying workers who have already at all any rate is paying it out 2030 years so -- all of the next generation. Now we papers school that we built. Which is a radical. You know it's a different way of doing it but it's pretty simple. Like by his side building -- you paper that you build a meaty paper out of it put money down and and you finance the -- And that's what we do now and that has brought the cost of school buildings are tremendously and that's what we need to do with how it and that's not and the K. It would it would tell the truth back then -- SBA. School buildings this is we came up with a plan in the Boston was -- Iraq back then and now they they know that we were wrong. And it we've solved the problem so what happened with the big stick back and I. Nobody wanted to a two count war or in and say guess what -- it is -- its cost that's ten times what we thought it was gonna cost them. And nobody back there in the governor's office traders are expected stood up and said. Wait a minute come cardinal wasn't involved in it but the governor's office it'd be the turnpike authority nobody stood up and said. -- this figure soda but we gotta do some about. -- boat crossed into old they tried to hide it and now with -- for a ten years later and this is what I don't wanna be happens which helped here especially on the national level.

We're talking to state -- an independent candidate for governor Tim Kay hill and as I just said you're the independent candidate for governor so you don't old either party so you can stand up. In point the finger and say what we're doing is wrong and you're not don't have to worry about stepping on toes anymore. Does it does is is that does that make you feel four year tough but the people really know what's going on.

Well I've always felt free to do it probably more free. -- not worried about -- if I was still in the party it would -- throw me out now. But I was criticized --

Growing -- while before 109 -- I don't tell people they say well okay he'll just switch because -- at look. This is a guy that was a two time state office holder won statewide twice. They wouldn't even NB a delegate to the national convention because he didn't you know. Go along with their point of view on all the issues so if you know that that's the way the Democrat party is these days.

Yeah I mean I've worked for two governments Democrat governor Republican governor I actually endorsed the democratic governor which I regret but I did. Edit that China knows in that period of you know 2006 I thought he was the right into the job. I work with Mitt Romney very close that wasn't part of it helped it discussions they didn't ask my advice. If you include in is that mr. become by the legislature. By congress by Ted Kennedy's office and by the governor's office so. You know I I I've learned appears that you don't go we have not invited to -- but it people asking the truth I have to tell the truth in every.

Check ought to be -- to -- come right from our official statement that -- controlled that your big Charlie I'm not giving up the work. I'm just trying to look for audiences as to why we pay our bills and I think there are one of the big year to. I'm try to look for it is is why what cutting local -- Well cutting education spending like costs you know why would struggling so much even without -- economy should be that bad here. And we are what it is it's my duty. No matter what happens a political leaders speak up now what are all my -- expect people gonna duplicate that problem national.

Well since you came out and said this instance we had you on the show yesterday. And you've become -- almost overnight. And it's sort of like what happened with Scott Brown you've almost become sort of a national media figure and you've been invited I guess on national Fox News and MSNBC the end. Have media calling you from all around the country must be amazing to you deceit all of us and see that happen.

Well we're we're we're we're doing -- back to back MSNBC fox -- use today in -- should be interest be LB on both sides of the -- Talking to both sides but I think that's people have to edit it the same story -- side. And I don't know how to deal with this national but I I I do know that. If we're going to war. This vote to take place -- this week or next week people have to know what the facts are that captain know what you actually going to be. And I'll take whatever. Accolades but whatever criticisms come my way because. It's my job it's my job as treasurer to tell people what the numbers are telling me. And when they were jumping out of here in the numbers and when the governor called the outlast because there have been missing in action a bigger cities start you're sure -- I'm I -- missing in -- have been fighting this -- trying to keep our credit rating up. Trying to fight off attempts were people to take upon grating voice must take credit on Massachusetts is back in. We've been fighting a good fight for the past two years here and help here's one of those years we've been fighting help sustain. In -- have been accused the missing in action. Like took her back that's one of the reasons that I I I did my homework and we it would really go -- these numbers and I could you know what that the governor. -- the high water Gulbis but how will call. You're you know you're committed to Obama you're you're committed to making what's happening in Massachusetts -- national I've got its held true. We got -- cover what the cost would help people exactly what the market -- they vote for a they know what they're getting into one more idea -- it while they already know now and what we do now we wouldn't have done it.

I've I've got one more quick question I know you've got a lot of things to do today but. You said yesterday and I thought about and thought about and I thought wow that's that's right. That one of the reasons why governor pat trick and our congressional delegation. Has been so intent on. Finding all of this extra money you Washington to fund our Obama care style health care system -- year. Is that. Nationally. The Democrats wanna hold -- up as a national model. And they wanna be of the states the works in Massachusetts. And it works great and that's why you should vote for a down year in fact as you said axle rod was some. Saying over the weekend it's just like what's going on in Massachusetts. Do you think that's what's really been going on the had been but dressing it up more for these political reasons then -- then non any other reason.

Well I I don't know that First Act but it it certainly makes sense. Because it if people do and they know now what it's costing us if we hadn't got this federal money. I don't know how we would've paid for everything we read that we we had to kick people off the -- because we couldn't pay for immigrants. That what coming into the current -- coming in here that was supposedly legal. And the governor ordered a paper we could save them so -- opted out I I think there's some truth that that they wouldn't let Massachusetts fail eventually the governor. As it is right in the weekly daddy he leopards that he went back who watched it a lot -- you gotta subsidize that -- got to give us these waivers you gotta give us more money. So that we can keep this thing -- the -- lose the national health it debate. And so it would benefited from that and I don't wanna get it could get put them all but what worries me what worries other. Our -- accomplishment -- others it's gonna keep coming. Under this new national and it doesn't look like -- well. So where and when the dust settles how we get it continue to get that that money to last if we don't. And that text is gonna step out and it's gonna hurt more businesses. It would not going to be focused but what we need to be focused which is the economy. What they don't get that but that's what we really need folk art.

Knowing what you know if your Steve lynch if your Niki Tsongas if you're Ed Markey if you are John Tierney. In Europe dining congress this week in Pelosi and Obama are calling you and hammering on you. In this legislation comes up how do you vote.

I like it because -- but I I couldn't vote are now on not the party anymore so obviously that probably wouldn't be you know I would I wouldn't be called into the president's opposite aren't able. It was wondering if they -- And NI I have great respect for our congressman or congresswoman in this state at work with -- I hope to continue to work with them. -- developed the party I think he is it really -- sensor to look at this closely and see. Whether or not the masters is small makes sense nationally an article it is is vote. Good to be a party vote. Always going to be in the vestiges of the state of Massachusetts out -- looking at what the vestiges of our state is. You have to go back historically at least put -- thought they can figure out. How Massachusetts is going to be. Fine how our brain is gonna survive if they start taking away hiding. Dedicate reimbursement whether or not little -- hospitals in their districts. And I think apple want to carded in -- party's side. Look at the national interest but also look at this state interest in -- you know anyone from what I want information. Yeah it that we get that provided -- will be happy to provide for them and have not. And what can basically tell -- not making this up. In armor in the governor and everyone is gonna try to make this political that it the end of the day. And number or speak for themselves in near real we're not making this up these -- the numbers on the official statement. That we have to provide the -- speeders in the rating agencies who are we going to the market if we're lying that means both the governor and I. -- perjuring ourselves. And I know win win not and I know he doesn't believe he is so if these numbers are real summit got to tell us why wood -- These numbers and why these budget. Are not true and I'll tell you that they are true and I -- that I hope people believe that. This isn't political on my part was something Eric felt like I had to do. As a state treasurer and and it's something that hopefully will benefit there. In terms of they wanna make your decision would all the information. That they can possibly Ellen no that's what might help -- wanted to do. And if they listen to me or at least what I'm saying he'll slow the staying power. Double back to the drawing board and -- what can we change about this bill. I can make it better because if if it doesn't change and I think it's going to be financial catastrophe for the country.
