The corporate income tax rate will also be raised from 4.8 percent to 7 percent marking a 46 percent increase overall. Barbara Anderson from Citizens for Limited Taxation joins us to talk about this and Massachusetts taxes. When President Obama took the podium at Wednesday night's memorial service in Tucson, Ariz., he was greeted with the unbridled excitement of a college campus embracing their commander in chief. Cheers and screams and hoots continued even after he asked for people to sit down. As he started his eulogy, with the somber words, "To the families of those we've lost," voices still cheered and at least three people shouted out, "We love you!" It was not the way most memorial services usually kick off. What did you think of the audience reaction to Obama's speech last night?

    Wed, 12 Jan 2011

A recent ruling by the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court makes it easier for people injured on snow covered walkways to successfully sue those property owners who don’t clear snow from walking surfaces. Winter is here and so are slippery sidewalks, parking lots and walkways. Previously, Massachusetts courts have ruled that a property owner cannot be held liable if someone is injured walking on new or what courts have called “natural” snow. Instead, owners can be held liable if someone walks over the natural snow and then another person falls down while walking on the same area of snow, called “unnatural” snow by the courts.

We're back on the -- and shows 617661668. Boy people are excited about this health care issue and we're not getting a big response from our congressional delegation we're trying to figure out how they're gonna vote I mean. We can guess how it Eddie Markey is gonna vote on this classy Eddie Markey as we've been calling and this afternoon. But one of the political leaders in our state did step up today. And just hunting around on the Internet we found this in to view that state treasury ten K -- just gave to the Boston Herald Jessica -- And we tracked him down and and and like all the other. Political leaders who aren't returning our phone calls ten K -- pop right back on the line with us and called -- back how are you mr. stretcher up.

Under the -- Leo says yeah. Congress he stayed out it was in response to. A -- government made a lot. Saying that were missing in action on healthcare reform in. What will my solution to a problem then you know we did we get shot or where I couldn't help but very very Evan -- Vocal about health care caught healthcare and a -- good good day Al -- not been telling people. For audio now that this is it's bankrupting this state they get caught her debatable the -- really haven't managed it well.

The state irreversible is the still universal health care plan that we have in Massachusetts.

Yes yes. And I want -- to our congress didn't do -- watching it is it. On Sunday gave it throughout basically he came out and what of the thought that said that the federal created based on -- not after it should split. So people look concerned about how -- a paper bits and whether or not we can afford it are spirited out jeez this is that we can't afford it. There -- no -- I don't think we can pay or without changing the way we deliver healthcare. And how we -- healthcare right now. All I'm sitting on the planet very -- what it turned out -- the that was enacted in 06 where they got that. -- love it back on board. But we're not gonna change the way covered with a mandate coverage and big critic taxpayers that are for the bell may not like it. We're spending four billion dollars or the data will work before helped elect Charlie 2000.

A may think that's. That state treasury ten K hill courses candidate for governor at the independent candidate for governor Ernie. Called a press conference at his office today and he told the press including the Boston Herald. If President Obama -- in the Democrats who repeat the mistakes of the health insurance mandate on the national level. They will bankrupt this country with in four years K Gil said. It is time for the president and the democratic leadership. To go back to the drawing board and come up with a new plan. -- does not threatened to wipe out the American economy well put I'd love to hear that from our members of our congressional delegation to.

You know that's the frustrating part tell me that we win the state has felt it back -- at least we weren't at all our economy was we -- full employment. People working in the economy had not yet broken down. But for watching in the try to do that scene in what is still a -- are we feel like recession will not an apple kept her appointment. It can -- the numbers don't add up. If people working get like the tax is an -- subsidize. It covered which found that will -- analysis on the commonwealth connector. You know that they distorted the public exchanged that -- you know sort of people with insurance right exactly. 68% of the people that date set up with insurance are -- fully subsidized. Or partially a 68%. 400000 people but now I haven't shirt today. Government can't walk --

Of course that's the way they got them onto the rolls. Tell me about your I'd love to hear two sorted you'll war. Person all. Police about being political leader. You know week it's obvious to me taking our calls reading the polls seeing what people are saying is that. People in the state don't want this healthcare bill passed the way it's looking now in Washington they're they're totally opposed to -- we saw that with the election of Scott Brown that one of the main reasons folks voted for Scott Brown was that he was said he would oppose the health care bill. And that Martha Coakley was was for people could see the difference. If your governor. And you make a proposal on something like this not health care but any number of things. And then you begin to hear in listening to the talk shows looking at the polls running in the people on the street. Hey governor we don't wanna go that way they governor you know we appreciate you working hard and we like your right years but this this is wrong. Are you gonna be so stubborn. That you would go to any link to push it through. Like Obama and and Nancy -- CR with the gonna try to -- in this room without even taking a vote.

You know I I would never I -- you you -- have been in politics for 22 years with the local. That -- in state level and that's how you operate you know kind of you know gonna be around very well. Noble want I would not ignored the will of the people at the same time. Pop up blocker proposed something Eric it that we can't pay. You know that really was the probably lead we worry for about expanding. Health -- to everybody. And we basically civil war but how we pay for later in which what was government right now is bet nobody concern about how are -- thing in. I delegation is concerned we don't like apple I don't concern. About the -- for it because it's scored a short change destitute itself. He could pick -- player could go bankrupt the country could bankrupt -- that we can't -- reimbursement. -- And we're not going to be a look at the plant does that really the only way to work and not not sustainable and and it's it's not right. Actually what people water folk country ought. In economy which really. Packwood about this full force thought it was great of the president. Into our governor that dropped the most important thing not a job killing. The church where it -- that's exactly what this says.

That's amazing the state treasury Tim Cahill course independent candidate for governor now. Joining us he gave a press conference today and urged the president and the Democrats go back to the drawing board on health care. Isn't it amazing to you that on here in our state. Which is probably. If something like the Senate bill passes out of the fifty states. Gonna be the worst affected will get the shortest end of the stick. And yet all ten members of our delegation are probably gonna vote for this.

Well -- I hope that's not going to be decay the other would be disappointing that would be very disappointing. Because -- even Senator Kerry has said we. You know we've got to get we gotta protect Massachusetts interest which we don't. But that's what led to this mishmash of a -- the first question I have the Nebraska. Amendment which protects Nebraska April.

For the corn got skirt the cornhuskers kickback as most -- wallet. And they are we see in a purchase. Then there's the money to -- that they put enough for Connecticut you know to get Joe Lieberman's vote. That's gonna build the new hospital down their millions and millions and millions of dollars. And Massachusetts. Like. Mike chappell waddle pointed out that I think pretty brave the letter he sent out. Says that we're gonna we're gonna be the most short changed at any of the states under this.

Yeah and what's what's happening right now Charlie -- healthcare as we increase and improve accept and allow more people to have coverage. We're putting more financial pressure on our community hospitals. It will were in danger of closing seven of forward sued the state of Massachusetts. For for not being reimbursed only for their clocks. So I don't understand how improving access on the one giving people insurance but then having community hospitals all is gonna help -- get better health -- And that's what is bill that we -- is going to do what I think. The federal version is still gonna make things worse and that's really my concern hospitals like Quincy in my -- are. Hospitals all across the state of Massachusetts. -- outside -- hospital some of that that -- is Christi hospitals get our community based hospitals are better really stop for. Under this -- this port disproportionate share hospitals as -- call eight. They cover more of the needy. -- more the old people Medicaid and Medicare patients. But they're not being fully reimbursed by federal government does is in June government so it's it's well cross purposes here and that's why I want the federal government to slow barrel. And go back -- cable.

The state treasure it and candidate for governor Tim -- hill came out today and said that. The Democrats and President Obama repeating this the healthcare mistake that we made in Massachusetts. And he urged them to go back to the drawing board and come up with a plan. That does not wipe out the American economy can you -- couple calls with a stand. Like great let's go to what chuck in the car. You're you're online with state treasury candidate for governor Tim Kay -- who. Didn't have to do it but he came out against Obama care today.

I've -- it. The one thing I can't it was more better and at the actual where have you know what the rest the country picked the parts. We're -- trying to something true without ever oh yeah -- are the ones that are ripping around the world. Or -- apple right to vote expressed their intent if that happened over the network act and other liberal white. I get the president and actress -- ordering what.

Goes on you know what chuck will come back and address that but I wanna grab some calls for Tim -- thinks of that call that was excellent. Rob in the car you're next with Charlie Manning and candidate for governor Tim Kay hill. --

I got a question on the other procedural mechanism yeah I got a and like my comment really is some you know it is there is trillion disgrace in an insult to the constitution. And I also wondered at all -- sure working relationship with the Senate Orly. And that. You're -- this perceived that the going to use all they won't even take a vote on the actual they'll all. And using the reconciliation. Process to all -- on the -- reconciliation peace. And actually they're all on the -- all from their. Senate colleagues who voted for on what they all right at the time. But I agree with what what was it.

They knew it -- no offense out Robin will get back to the procedural things but I wanted to couple calls for. The first state treasurer -- hill in governor Kay hill maybe governor -- candidate for governor -- Let's talk to -- go on Cape Cod your next with. Charlie Manning and candidate for governor in state treasury Tim -- hill -- Franco.

I you do the blow. Actually I have a question. Now you're running for governor and yet. I think 678%. Of Americans project that helped build what I of the I've I've read the bill terrible. But then you know -- really like that know what what what what you can -- the message that. The -- of the war oh yeah.

Well you know what's Rocco thanks for calling us and that we really appreciate it. And I think the fact that he stepped up in this situation. You know when -- is usually a fight like this most -- would say that's not my fight I'm running for governor in Massachusetts. You don't see. Governor Patrik you know Chiming in on this and you don't really even here Charlie Baker Chiming in on this. But to call press conference in your office today invite the press and and say hey. This isn't working we've seen in Massachusetts that it didn't work it's bankrupting our state if they -- on the same path it's gonna bankrupt our country. And I hope the president the congress go back to the -- to roaring board and let's do this right I think that tells you a lot about ten K --

Yeah and and and I would like to say to I think there are ways to make it work. You know which he can't just open up access. It's opened the floodgates to people mean a great city insurance company big or client. In need to make your money. But for the rest about the taxpayers going to be covering it ended no real reform and -- packet ever reform the way we pay for services. We haven't for reform the way we deliver services. And I think one of the key mistakes is we haven't opened up competition. We still can't buy insurance across state line by get a better deal ending masters is revenue for -- Michigan company. Or on the Connecticut company wide or help the bite from a Massachusetts company who don't -- to pocket the profit. So I think their way for any governor to fix this player without. Kicking people off the -- and I don't intend to do yeah keep people who all but got to bring down low cost competition is a great way to do there.

So -- you're really you're really not missing in action as you retire this week by Governor Patrick.

I was offended by that. They're trying to manage the budget we've been -- it -- would catch what shortage. We're going on almost trivia now we've been trying to manage their very corrupt environments. And it's not just because revenues are going down I mean they've gone down to -- billion dollar. But it's also because we had been spending. Billion adult that can make it to prop up this helped keep they'll and I am -- the belief that made prior to recent -- they've done that if so that they could. Prop up the national billing get to a before anyone really looked under the covers and we look better recover especially what I would call up by the governor. We -- now this. And it becomes crystal -- just look at the official statement up this state that we can publish it's not. -- show you the enormous hit 1% increase in spending in health care costs alone. All the lost four year old we're above inflation.

Tancredo what we're gonna we gonna take a break but I know we really appreciate you calling in. Am dial we like I said when you call came on last week would love to have you in the studio for a whole hour to take calls.
