Governor of what's is -- at all Patrick yes I guess I blocked it out there -- normal little bit in -- something really that you know. He sees it basically saying Charlie should be talking about what's gone in the news kinda thing. Yeah well it's -- is kind of -- he -- jolly and others but I think it was actually folks that Charlie -- if he described -- is being MIA. Missing in action the governor has proposed a proposed legislation I guess is that would cap or restrict the ability of -- insurance companies to raise the premiums I think the numbers 30. 3.2 percent he went down to testify. On this bill legislative hearing. And didn't beat either during or immediately after with his campaign separate and apart from the governor as the governor. He is gubernatorial reelection committee sent out a press release that challenge baker and said why is he invisible. And that he should he should have been doing something about there because who's used a big shot exact yet how the pros here's the thing. To.

Paul was elected to a first of all this is so a political trek right you try to draw your opponent into a fight. When you think that his philosophy will force him. To take a picture -- take a stance that when trivialized in the media and made into a SoundBite or headline will make him look bad with voters. And I thought. Net the Deval Patrick -- in the Barack Obama -- was about doing away with these kinds of silly games in politics. And that we're going into a new era in which. The we were really be flashing out ideas we would find the nobility of leadership not the game planning and here's -- planet chief political --

Yeah we would be doing it by press release I think the governor was very very critical of cynical political men who isn't. And politics by press release that type of stuff I think there's also a very fair question to be asked Mitt Romney came and a lot of criticism you'll recall. When he tried to like get tough on immigration. What about three weeks left of his administration he had been if for the better part of three nappy is of people said. This is as phony as can be this is a contrivance for the presidential election you just got other things -- it was a very legitimate I think criticism Mitt Romney now the same criticism the same principle could be applied to Deval Patrick. He's been in office for more than three years now has never uttered a word about the insurance premiums are at least offered any concrete Korea responds to them. And not just within the past week at ten days -- this legislative proposal on system -- he ought MIA well I mean. Prepared and by the way and the ability to speak -- that's the president does dilly dally around with us and kicking it around and and make and the insurers the bad guys this is a horrible. Principal. This is a horrible prince of high interest in the political appeal of the president attacking the president or governor or -- saying to any business we are going to set your rate well we are we're going to putt out of the whole idea of running around demonizing. Eight a sector of the -- you know hey this is just one company it's an industry that he's. Falsely portraying to be involved everybody voted into your business trying to make money like everybody else is easy to characterize them in a very negative way because why because people see the premiums go up the co pay the deductible they get furious and they say you know what the pot of my life is is out of control -- predictable as health get. So I see in the popped right it's only a -- he's always easy if you're willing to practice the old style politics. That the hall and Barack ran against Seattle they kind of force well that and said we're where we're going to be different it cited from I'm troubled by it and I think any. Any thoughtful business leader should be very troubled by it because the implication of this is. When the governor needs political. You know. My new book. You're right you're at risk. Your address all the good news is that Deval Patrick has now said who's gonna start doing talk radio he's not scared anymore yeah. So coach -- McAuliffe tell we have fed him after Charlotte. I'm gonna Brett. I'm I'm assuming the governor is gonna join us take your Osama I take him at his word and I think will be will be you know I I think we're fear for my really don't. And I think we strive to be clear and respectful to anybody who comes into the studio that being said I'm gonna ask the governor -- should c'mon. Which was this nonsense about picking and I the true figure out of that really got to -- irritates 3.2 percent and anything else is gonna be. Illegal. Prohibited. By almost measuring -- c'mon grow up let's talk to somebody who's not afraid of the markets. Charlie Baker joins us now NW RK RE Charlie.

I gotta say doing -- radio morning good. Are you we've done anything else you are there are incredibly much covered the Clinton -- went by quickly.

That's how it is what I citadel about let's start about bullying then jelly here this these states senate did something on -- it's been in the news lately the governor has made some news on this. I've given got a high marks on now on now what's your take on the bullying legislation.

I think it's I think it's good bill that I think the whole cyber notion of bullying has three teenagers right -- I'm quite aware of how much time these kids -- FaceBook and these other online. Conversational opportunities how are your kids sure 1916 and twelve do you limit the access. We don't limit their access -- Sabo we do is the only computers in the house or in the fairly or member of screens based out there's two of them. And so if anybody we know how much time is spent and on the on the computer we know what they're doing then. And I think that's worked pretty well.

Yeah I know that sounds like a good practice.

But I really do worry about in that the kid alone in their room feeling completely alone and getting stuck in one of these. Horrible conversations are horrible. Situations where people are just camera and they you know hammered him over and over again -- it's almost like there's no place -- there's no place to go so like the old days where. Ms. -- Pixar and it's -- I hit the -- something you can go home and you're safe in our so I'm I'm -- Florida glad that -- whether federal Preston. -- should also take it up so.

Charlie anything particularly wanna talk about we and take some calls if if you don't have a particular message you wanna get out.

I heard you guys talking about health care whether or not I was missing in action on this whole issue from the governor earlier this week I guess I guess I just a couple things which is that. Five years ago I started talking about the fact that we needed more transparency in the all pricing should be public information. Then people nodded and together it would certainly help in the the administration did not think. And in three years ago senator Murray talked about having hearings -- health insurance premiums went up more than I think -- 7%. Three years ago and -- like a good idea -- can't wait and the administration did nothing then two years ago. Senator Murray got a bill passed the required the administration to hold hearings -- spoke to all of them in the fall of 2008. And here it is the spring of 2000 -- and the administration has done nothing so. I guess I would start by saying that you know that I've done everything I could I believe is the guy. -- from the outside to try to get the state to engage on this thing and then. And I think to a -- at this point is this sort of it has a -- it's just blatantly political.

Jolly you're familiar with some of the arguments about insurance companies and guys are just very expensive middleman you're in the middle you don't do anything you don't provide any particular service. That you right.

Its its dates mister -- and I'm not actually there anymore are no longer I'm I'm just look at -- job like a heck of a lot of other people in my --

I understand that but you're familiar with the criticism. Huge profit margins -- huge salaries how do you respond because in the political arena you -- now. You know people are gonna say yeah I was making a million bucks a year and -- gouge it.

The -- wanna be hearings and I started talking about transparency and public disclosure so long ago Thomas I believe that everybody in the industry should be in the hot seat they insurance companies the pharmaceutical industry that providers the hospitals everybody and that bothers me that you know for years and this administration they've basically done nothing to get that ball going. I think everybody should be everybody should be in the public discussion on this stuff that I would have loved to have had an opportunity to have everybody -- we would have made a heck of a lot more progress we've made up until now.

And I think you're right transparency is a key thing in terms of bringing down costs which is the essence of what. The whole concern over health care is is that costs -- run out of control.

Right I mean agenda item 90% of the spending is being spent and actual medical care. Drugs start hospitals. Therapy and that sort of thing -- it you're not talking about that thing you really can't get it edit edit the problem at all.

All right let's take some calls for Charlie Baker Republican candidate for governor Mike you're NW RQ good morning.

I take my -- diplomatic they would send I think big government idea that a fantastic one. Only if the governor would apply the same rules do state government you know entity anymore they want you gotta go -- exactly -- To if we want you ask -- go to -- they all October you know what that's forced -- delivered in this same thing but I think they want the government has done. In the last couple years since he's been governor he increased outfield that by 25%. He brought it in the field staff on the lecture a bank he still supports haven't. Children of illegal immigrants get state tuition at a great air quality is what we will -- we we can't afford it. I mean that they'll list goes on -- let me challenge get -- you gonna try to -- the increase in the sales tax yes.

That was easy Mike. I simple if you need any survives there's on the campaign I think Mike did because how how hot. Jorge jury is so -- you have the same response that if the governor wants artificially cap the the increases in the insurance companies. Why don't we do the same thing to the government.

Well I just think that the whole notion here ought to be. Com what do what we can't just solve the underlying problem is driving up the cost of health care and I finally get with a -- attempt I mean buying do it right away you could just temporary relief to -- dissolve what's going on -- eventually it just won't.

Again about what the potential for unintended consequences that could be worse and they've -- brilliant worst position seal lose and ensure. Because of that.

Time time general remember that we used to we used to control. Hospital costs and -- disk and by definition other health care costs are regulatory system and messaging -- his memories -- networks that don't work so well that the cost of health -- one up about 18% a year for the three years at the end of the 99 yup so we know I was recruited because it didn't work -- I mean right. That he got to get -- the underlying problem for me don't always starts with public disclosure around what everything costs for me -- Huskies are in bright light whatever you wanna call it. That'll get people's attention and now get people to engage -- me -- a hearing Democrats. That's that's -- I think that thank you cards and are you an outsider but some can be very -- probably forty empty. Forty yeah forty empty seats in the 200 she legislature's going to be a very different -- next cost Lewis you're the only argue for Charlie -- Is this the baker I am all be -- don't want other side are you are you are well equipped built our our.

I think the I think the governor by turning the -- bill basically just created an unfunded mandate cities and towns which is a bad thing. And the big issue we have now is is we're gonna have to come up with -- so I think we should. Restore and we should pundits so those police officers who may elect decisions based on an assumption that there are gonna be reimbursed for the.

Would you phase it out for new officers coming up.

No I think we should come up with a different program for. For police officers I think having an educational access for police services is a good idea. But the problem we have go to Quinn go for all intents and purposes. That it is it is. It's only going to be either for the people who. Qualified for the program previously we need to invent a new one and I think that's fine I think we should do that I think we should sit down local government sit down spokesman law enforcement community. They come up with a new program because I think the it is an educational incentives for police officers and a good idea.

I doubt we've got -- accent -- York -- Charlie Baker and they haven't. -- what I haven't. Kevin and now let's try damn good question I thought you guys have a little a subliminal thing on that day and that's good morning dinner.

A good morning I telecommute part of what was some of the conservative credentials -- running mate the first maybe build these proposed for. -- What's the big players say it is -- call me actually want is not to restore our reporter in the spring of 2007. And I'm really worry about with our own states and we talked about this can use to be Internet bubble block which is that. The work for the governor -- governor weld as his chief financial officer and so permanent. Several other -- to Jesus spent has gone up about 10% a year I don't think we can afford this it's not sustainable. That basically says -- right and so he got every Republican in the Senate and Brad Jones to the seminoles in the spring of 2007. Missiles long before the economy. Trash and all the stuff happened that happened after that then Richard and they're Republicans limbo thousands senate voted against every single budget bill. From that point forward and made this an employee over and over and over again the state spending more than an unsustainable trend. The numerous drivers sold into a ditch and that's exactly what happened.

Ari will go to us Stephen Jackson WRQ hi Steve.

I got a good morning good morning Steve. Well I got a question for you idea I think we can all agree that the state spending is out of control I was wondering what the good things that you would do --

Well I sit throw on time I think one of the big problems we've got his third. There's just too many state agencies doing too many things overlapping jurisdictions. And all the rest and I think we should dramatically simplifies. State government operating model dramatically simplifies the bureaucracy and reduce. But a significant amount the number of people who work for state government and the number I talked about it the reduction in the workforce of about 10%. And edit and you know -- and that would be. You believe your choice I think there will be incredibly. Difficult thing to do for everybody involved but the bottom line is. You know we have a little less businesses the middle -- a little less big and small businesses cities and towns. Having gone through a significant amount of restructuring and reform and I just don't think state government has done anywhere near the same level of restructuring and reform -- seen happen. Everywhere else and that big government needs to play by the same rules everybody else plays by its revenues down and then state government to get smaller not bigger.

Jolly baker has been I guess -- are always delighted to have you join us by the way we wanna make sure we invite you -- Todd night broadcasting from the Saint Patrick's Day breakfast. If you can swing by table Wu who obviously love to get you on the --
