As part of a huge package to reduce Illinois' fifteen billion dollar deficit, Governor Pat Quinn has asked permission from the state’s legislature to sell 8.75 billion bonds to pay for five months of overdue bills. This news comes immediately after it was announced that a new plan to increase personal income taxes by 67 percent will be signed by Quinn and be taken into effect immediately. The corporate income tax rate will also be raised from 4.8 percent to 7 percent marking a 46 percent increase overall. Barbara Anderson from Citizens for Limited Taxation joins us to talk about this and Massachusetts taxes. It was also announced that Deval Patrick has accepted the resignation of the entire parole board after the release of cop killer Domenic Cinelli.

    Thu, 13 Jan 2011

When President Obama took the podium at Wednesday night's memorial service in Tucson, Ariz., he was greeted with the unbridled excitement of a college campus embracing their commander in chief. Cheers and screams and hoots continued even after he asked for people to sit down. As he started his eulogy, with the somber words, "To the families of those we've lost," voices still cheered and at least three people shouted out, "We love you!" It was not the way most memorial services usually kick off. What did you think of the audience reaction to Obama's speech last night?

  4. Who should be responsible for Clearing Snow from Sidewalks?

    Audio

    Wed, 12 Jan 2011

A recent ruling by the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court makes it easier for people injured on snow covered walkways to successfully sue those property owners who don’t clear snow from walking surfaces. Winter is here and so are slippery sidewalks, parking lots and walkways. Previously, Massachusetts courts have ruled that a property owner cannot be held liable if someone is injured walking on new or what courts have called “natural” snow. Instead, owners can be held liable if someone walks over the natural snow and then another person falls down while walking on the same area of snow, called “unnatural” snow by the courts.

W walker oh -- time for.

There's in New Haven Boston talk radio surely remembered. It's a kind of rocket. Fired up many Americans who are frustrated with the economy and opposed to the president's health care overhaul of stroller remembering on Boston's talks -- usually -- 680.

W or Kerio.

We're back for -- to with the jolly man in show on Tuesday. Crude afternoon in Boston hope you haven't -- time on this beautiful day. 6172666868. Our number. Pretty busy first hour they're. We Christie my house come on and react to that Boston Globe story another front page story -- in the port guide today. And then we head state treasury in the independent candidate ten K hill. Took some calls and both of them said they -- command and hang out with us and take a lot of calls from you folks which I think would be. Rate to 6668686172666860. It's always the number. We're just watching Fox News and guess what. There's a runaway Prius they have video of a run away Prius. Folks in Newton folks in Brookline folks in Cambridge there's runaway Prius isn't your neighborhood. I told everyone they couldn't trust those pre s's I mean Toyota makes nice cars with head toyotas but. You should ask couldn't trust those little creases and -- there's the proof the runaway Prius that. He met -- how many trials that video will be shown. When people start suing toy odor and they'll be class action suits. In you'll go into the courtroom and dolby seventy people they're sitting there with neck braces from their runaway Prius is and the awful things that happened. Oh my gosh port Toyota I hope that I hope they've -- some good lawyers that's all I can say they'd they'd better of hide some good lawyers. 6172666868. On the Charlie Manning show on WRKO. Over the next few months now. All of the action -- I've been up and let me put this -- I've been up at the Statehouse for years going back to. When Ed king was governor when bill weld was governor. In the spring is always the time when the legislature. Basically takes over. And weren't going to be watching very closely. What happens in the legislature this year. I have to say the Democrats are in panic. They saw the Scott Brown election they are worried. And the hardy band of Republicans I think it's about fifteen in the house and now down to. Four in the Senate with Scott card although hopefully. Will win that's that the Republicans when I shouldn't say we the Republicans will win that special election. With Richard Ross who's a terrific state wrapped in now running for Scott seat. So. I thought it would be fun today to have the two. Mean legislative leaders in our state in the House of Representatives which is the biggest body that has a 160. Give or take a few members. The states and it only has forty. So in the next hour will have the speaker himself Bob to Leo. And in this hour we have is count took hard -- But god it's always challenging -- state representative and house minority leader Brad Jones Brett thanks a common man. My pleasure congratulations -- oh thanks so much for coming in. Now this is the time when the legislature really gets going but somebody told me the other days that. The speakers so war Reid and the Democrats are so worried. Right now they're only meeting one day a week.

Yet if you go back to last July there's no time since last night we met with -- Wendy week if we meet since last July must -- if you use this week when -- me off. Is that a vacation week. While my what I think what I always say is that I -- I know and next week is a evacuation when we this probably careful preparations underway for next week's holiday. Oh that's right you know what everybody's writing their jokes this week that's what it is you know the assault the breakfast and there's gonna be fun events all over the state Saint Patrick's Day and everything. So is that that's what everybody's doing their writing their jokes this week right. While some of them probably a lot more than a week to get their jokes written but yet a given the election year it's going to be anyone has some really good material for next week Sunday so what I'm understanding is that the democratic leadership in the house it's telling their members. Help there be out in your districts BC be like Scott Brown -- everything. -- you know with their if there are baking a cake at the bakery -- just just get out therein and make sure the voters are seeing interesting message to the messages basic.

The gloat and talk to people. Which I thought was sort of part and -- job in the first that's what you do we not just -- district by the way I have I North Reading reading Winfield and Middleton a price of three of those what -- all of north -- But amount about all time unity -- it's his name you know kids in the school. Your school events. My wife since the of the grocery store I tell -- like office hours people stop you by the milk people stopping by the -- people's document the bakery whatever it is. People wanna talk to you pumping gas Pataki over the gas. Gas pumps some of the times to say hi you doing a great job I'm really concerned about this. Ant or people just concerned about we -- had headed the state and -- a lot of more so than usual negative feedback about the governor in the legislature in and so the one party. An imbalance in Massachusetts. Yet the governor's poll numbers are tough in the legislature's poll numbers are really tough to this is going to be a tough year to run as an incumbent it is staff and you know I mean obviously like like a lot of things -- congress -- Washington that you know people. Dislike the institution but me like the room legislate -- movement is a lot more apprehension now in in as you mention this is the spring time well this is a time when nomination papers are available. So we're in the window wanted to kind of find out do you have an opponent. To have a good opponent to they have many opponents. And we also see a lot of upheaval you know number sykora to at least 21. Legislators and -- said they're not running for election immigrant for higher office in the history running for the exit. Decent the end I think you can see some more of those in the in the weeks ahead.

Will you on helped young can't you know for some folks want don't think about running for the legislature. A good place to do a good thing to do is call you up and going and see you -- and you for a cup of coffee take. He -- should I do it. Are there are a lot of new people running this year for the rehearsal there are lot of new people -- RD come forward -- she was -- election there was a whole group of people that I called the people that historically -- sat. In around -- yells at TV that finally gotten involved and so I'm gonna go write a check of difficult assignment go to rally. In in I think there's a lot of those people stepping forward. And hopefully in and amongst that group you can have some candidates that are you know very strong and maybe some that are willing to -- wanna talk what's issues. But this thing of finding to his or lot of cases step forward. That have businesses that sort of known in the community school committee selectmen or or previous electoral experience. Which is a help because putting your name on the Dow optically for the very very first time. Is a big step in if you've done -- at least once running for selectmen -- City Council something like that. Occasionally gear at least of understanding that when your out there is he should step out behind those -- it. The whole bunch of things that you should anticipate so will that this is house minority leader Brad Jones on the Charlie Manning show if you like to talk to -- 617.

2666868. The number 61726666. The news about any of the issues that the state is facing. So we get through joke writing week this week right the next weeks evacuation day week evacuation and then people are gonna start doing some stuff in the legislature -- take it while it.

I don't know I mean hey you know their if you look back whenever we've sort of done taxes to stick if you do taxes an election yet the last and we did big tax increase in election year when Tom -- speaker. Com we did it may right after papers were due. Also they wait till all AS and can have an idea while -- child you don't have an opponent so you can take the tough vote. You know you have an opponents of me we'll give you a little bit of I didn't take a walk on that yeah you run dispensation in ago rail against how -- voting against leadership for the first time in ten years. You know so it. Everybody's waiting -- candidates are still coming forward a number of people you know that between the party. You know holly Roberts has been doing a great job she's could have executed schools she said united -- hundred last week Vietnam on coming up. So people coming forward summer campaign workers don't learn about the rules and how to go about it summer candidates. And I think you can see a lot more people step forward and now obviously you have. Carson Delahunt stepped down in that kind of creates a whole set of movement on the deck chairs or people who logged in around the congressional seat when our run for the Senate seat while on the rapped a run for the Senate -- or whatever. So I think that's going to be you know that's gonna create 345 moves by the time all plays out -- in the tenth congressional district so these people.

What they're listening to laws that were saying. I've never run for office I never got involved and then I got involved in Scott Brown's election. And I'd never done that before I held signs and I'd make calls and first time ever right I wrote a check. And now maybe I can do it maybe I could do what Scott did in changed things in the company meet Brad Jones what do you tell well I.

Usually I say what the question is do you have what are the things that you wanna know about to schedule what you expect what's new Tuesday with -- expect. Okay I've decided to write what you do. Crushing blow my campaign fund raising issues. What can expect for resources from maybe the party. From concerned citizens. You know a lot of it is depends on the -- campaign that person can mount I do talk candidates that they cannot expect. You know don't just target the signatures somebody else has been doing for those candidates have to -- about the district tell people. Going to adore meeting people as the number one thing they can do. To meet people I also tell people in American about it but say. You know essentially you guys in the media. If you have something in your background that you particularly proud of these things -- virtual -- assume that it will come out anticipated now not saying you know releasing itself but anticipate. It's somewhere along the line. You know the debt issue that you're not too proud of the you've got trouble -- is gonna come up. And I -- I always say that candidates always say as you make this decision just think that the most personal. In Dara -- Awful thing that's happened to you your life. That you don't want anybody to know about. Is gonna end up on the front page in the newspaper sued just you know that's gonna have that becomes more more -- you run for you know higher office and the stakes are higher. You know it's one thing if -- selectmen assume certain things maiming -- Mountain State rep as you move up that ladder. And you get into statewide offices you pretty much could be sure and meaning in everything tomorrow. I'll never forget with Mitt Romney when he was first running against Ted Kennedy and I met with them and that talk with them and he said. Well there is one thing and now here's you know the the voice got a ball voice got a browser hit two cops are put alcohol yeah. He got arrested one time by night he park ranger out of the state park you've taken the kids out there they took their little rowboat. He was taking it out of the water in the park ranger didn't like him doing it. And it tests prove the cuffs on him and took him away in his bathing suit. In that said that's okay you know that's not connect Marcus -- nature -- the case with fields. And nights at -- Torre met the Kennedy people are gratified that out about you and I swear it was three weeks later frank Phillips in the globe with colleagues say. Did Mitt -- the ever get our rest did exactly exactly but then that's good advice to any candidate I'm just assume -- seized on something -- background. It's gonna come up. Exactly what's -- called we have Brad Jones the house minority leader with us we're talking about this upcoming incredible election year. And I know folks are gonna have questions about running what but what's going on in the legislature will get into some issues as the as the hour goes along. 6172666868. On WR Akio. The NN while -- in the first this hour -- representative Brad Jones.

I -- my question has to do it the ways that districts are are lying in Beijing is my opinion that it used to be. When when there's always a boat of about 35 -- 65%. Of the people voting Republican yeah. No Republican governor except between you run so well. -- Legislation affected sustain his veto it is it is -- opinion of these districts gerrymandered in such a way. It's almost. And our sport it is a financial crisis. For Republicans have a shot.

Narrowed DNA. Wouldn't do any chair. You know where the term gerrymandering comes from right Dan. And it remains a mass former governor of Massachusetts was named. Albert Jerry yeah -- for the infield area and he invented. Uses standard very yes -- where it.

I think it's looking like a win in there yeah. I don't know -- I've been around awhile but not al-Qaeda. And but that's where the whole turn started and a horse that's what they do if if you wanna have a laugh look at the congressional districts on the map. They fault go head over heels to move one town here in the air and everywhere in and it must be worse in the legislature and.

In the congressional districts if you look at we what we get the census which -- you may have gotten something in the mail yesterday saying you know prevailing saying expect that we can gonna get -- form -- out and back. We'll get the total state they'll do what's called the apportionment how many congressman does Massachusetts get big debate is whether we're gonna be actually be able to keep ten it was gonna go down in nine. So that's assuming tomorrow with six million people you divide by ten seconds 600000 people from district. And using the federal stated we allowed no variation between districts will -- up child your and that's sad history fragile -- industry we don't respect precinct lines. What lines will divide -- per precinct to happen in time reading your present. And then they'll do it -- now if you look back in two in 2002 the last time we did it we presented a plan that met all the the standards. In a manner that was more acceptable to life we actually gone to court we have the resources is a party to go to court. Everybody expects we -- won the case but because we didn't they get to the district we have now which is you know kind of this wagon we a lot of boss senator. Right around the suburbs of Boston where you know Barney Frank will. -- down to you know New Bedford area have you know constant balance of -- and while -- province -- the right next to him is Congressman Lynch you know -- you know Larry -- in Quincy you know right -- while no. You know -- all of morally within. -- geographic area -- to congressman -- he kind of runs across the southern border of the state you know he you know bordering I think New York Connecticut. Rhode Island it's quite incredible and it's going to be an opportunity. How to change that one of the things that we proposed. During the rules last years to do just what we call independent commission. You know in an an Indy can -- gonna keep politics out of it because we -- doing the numbers were beast that is going to be some decisions made he district's roughly the same size. For state senate Statehouse district we allow 5% variation and we should respect precinct line so we never divided -- my precinct lines right and that's probably good thing. And you know. But overall is there any impact people can have on what I did I should they be an issue -- elect I think it should be an issue we -- we've proposed you changing a constitution -- proposed rules to do an independent commission basically let people look at the numbers. And what makes sense in it to make a proposal and we have an up or down vote that's a -- down not my little friend healer and -- like it relatives over here we'll give me this a trade that QB that. I'm it would be much better way doing it would be much more like how many of the states to have they ever let the Republicans get in the -- I mean the -- the Democrats live for redistricting that's that's what they do that -- let's -- just nationalities you know you've been around a long time you program and it was sort of you know the back of envelope and almost a crayons that people who. Now the technology that's out there is incredible yet he's everybody's in the ability to download an application on the web. In the of the click around see what they think works that's gonna empower people say hate is a better plan he has -- a player unions benefit -- Stimuli how to for the leadership say we have the numbers -- the only ones have the ability do this. People going to be able to. Through technology they can download -- one of -- that I downloaded it it's fascinating for those political junkies like us. 2666860. Its number that state representative Brad Jones who is the minority leader in the house representatives. Where and take a quick break but will be right back on WRKO.

One of the people that knows where all the bodies are buried on Beacon Hill. State representative Brad Jones who's also the house minority leader. As we've been talking about politics the upcoming political year it now let's turn to. What's gonna happen when they speaker by the decides that everybody's gonna go back to work gas. The big debate is gonna be gambling he wants to have slots at 45 racetracks is that that's his goal right well I think his goal.

At least basin Billy -- last week I think he spoke to the M box -- commerce right -- to sort of destination resort casinos and and for receive knows slots the racetracks. And whether. Whether that's an English in negotiating a -- out there and negotiate down. That's going to be healthy debate but you know I think he's smart to not -- effect of that money into the budget. On base and this plan that seems to be pretty expansive. It's going to be big debate you know the governor's kind of boxes to -- a little bit because. Governor is gonna three -- for governor he came out with a gain and gambling plan you know during his book deal. It's and he. When he missed the big vote brightness -- he's I think they vote -- Chrysler is really remember he had on the pro life he M. But his base and know that some of them the moved -- this -- that really supports him. Doesn't like the gambling thinks he's -- antagonizing his base and he really needs in the three race he's been very. So it's happened in how we approach gambling so was -- and I still support it. But I'm not gonna really do anything with so is -- antagonize him too much because of his calculations three way race so. You know it's gonna be at -- in the Senate president has been a little more standoffish -- open to a but I I don't know if it is so I don't know that it's gonna be something happens I think gonna debate house. But again you know speaker can -- with the sort of the outlines a plan. But for every question and answered it probably raised five more for example what's gonna be a pain and for receive no you know licensing -- We are those that's what I don't like you know ITI gonna go I'm not gamblers though I don't tax yet it I I I don't -- gamble here on the radio -- in politics in Massachusetts is nobody give -- that well I've done not a casino guy so it doesn't matter to me and if we can. Keep some folks are going to foxwoods and given the state of Connecticut money York Rhode Island that's -- the lottery does this to the cities towns can ruts -- it. Is your host community vote is here in our an extra piece of the puzzle I that goes to the host community union -- it was a visit dozens of questions. Did I left audience and he may have the answer is enough -- yet. He may have thrown out sort of the broad strokes in the end of the things percolate up in the next weeks will decide to fill in those details before you pieces though. I don't know you know there were it is with a B and by in the march then we'll get right into full fully into the budget debate.

6172666860. If you wanna join in this conversations years the three things -- now. One how are they gonna decide who gets the casino licenses going to be opened bidding. We know that that they Gama casino companies. Aren't doing really well these days -- Are we sort of selling these at a time when we're not gonna get a good price -- To. Why do the tracks get a monopoly. Why shouldn't the four seasons hotel people to have slots in downtown Boston. And have a nice room and if you're in downtown do you wanna go play some slots. Why the tracks why did they get a tremendous advantage over rebel -- and then finally. What are they gonna do with the money if it got a state the state house of the -- can play with it. Or is economists are they gonna say no this is all going to find our college system right or going to the cities and towns. Do we know any of that's.

Those those -- the details we don't know who knows there are really the critical question for people like me who are open to some idea of expanding gaming in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts but what the details. You know is the lottery which generates a lot of money for cities towns -- that -- I'm so this this some. Drop off and sort of the traditional lottery games he -- people go to casinos or receive knows. Well novice and cities and towns take -- hit blown out and hold promise to you know some level of income. Ian -- this year another piece of what we realize and and immediate state keeps the employment proceeds of the contact between different ways that's that the -- The rest of the money indices is that this has a say dozens and dozens of questions there. People want that money earmarked and I think. Local government is the best place to go with that in -- might be firewalls wanna light up and get -- it and I we'll set I have conveyed that the speaker and said you know from the we have to have -- and bare minimum of very healthy percentage of that money going back to six -- sort of directory Verizon. You know cities and towns for the people physically for the district -- present -- towns with the most of services that's for the rubber meets the road that's waving -- people feel the most. -- involved and how they dollars and spent feel like they can see how that dollars giving spent. You feel like a local level meeting -- more inclined to get a dollar. Services for dollar of revenues as opposed to about 10% of the federal government trickles back down you feel like I -- my pocket again about what sent back. With the state levels may be a little better map with the local people don't care payback again a buck. That state representative Brad Joan.

He's the house minority leader 6172666868. Is the number if you wanna give us call on the Charlie Manning show and I'm Charlie Manning so give us a call would love to hear from you. 617666868. Had the governor on yesterday he says I asked him how the budget's going and what we do is we have fiscal years here so this year ends on June 30 and then the new one starts on July 1. And he said. We we've got enough we've done enough cutting we're gonna get through this year okay we don't have to really have any more cuts will have enough revenue to finish with a balanced budget. The big challenges. What are we gonna do for next year so do you agree with them do you think we're gonna be fine for this year.

While I'm gonna have to do I'm I think there are they gonna have to be there are some huge. Variables well first of all. You know we're gonna have a budget to stop bounced a virtual we have structural office. Loom so we're we're we're not taking in enough money on which recurring basis to cover property -- using a lot of in one timers bright one of the largest one is the governor is gonna think it's six -- seven million dollars and -- he gets Medicaid money it's gonna come from the federal government move the governor filed a budget January. We're planning on or planning on on the hour and a march and that is any close happenings that if that doesn't happen his budget has a 600 million dollar hole -- it right before anything else happens. That's a concern you know he's got a tax increase and you know he wants that you know again -- nickel and dime to nickel and -- the finals at the registry if you wanna talk to anybody. What we wanna change we want attacks key -- so. You know we're going to get it for alcohol we are increased meals tax we are already increased sales tax.

I we we all know that the governor's budgets don't mean anything I I remember being up there -- With bill weld that Mitt Romney and in January you have no idea of what things are gonna be like in June and I I remember telling someone one time. We -- to just put out. One copy of the budget save some trees. Put zero and every call him. And then work with the legislature I think that quote sorts of -- orders we have to -- my priority I have the governor of this of the same -- you know he's the he's the -- He's the lead guy and Democrat ticket that's violent Democrats are wringing hands as they say you know. Two years ago is popular areas up Hideo wanted him to come at a fund raiser for local office now it's like you know so like pushed it to be. To a fund raiser for me at the airport hangar no press nobody sees you there. I don't -- picture we've yet if somebody she's here you see camera jump by the way. -- because they don't -- picture taken with the governor. And and I think that. You know right now I think there's almost a desire for Democrats -- trying to prop him up. Because he's the anchor. And they're tied to his that the rope on an Acre and they worried there ought to be going now. Well that's tough when the top of the ticket -- down I'll never will you remember so well in -- been there done that what was it 9996. Bob Dole at the top of the ticket. That could've been a breakthrough year for -- the Republican Party yet. Bill weld against Kerry you would pollute the you would chains with running out there -- to -- than. And the hall went down on countless top of the ticket was so weak just. -- they -- and they -- Massachusetts and I would -- the same thing happened in 20042004. Howard Dean was going to be the democratic nominee until. Iowa happened right in and he went kind of off the deep end and Alison -- She teach you -- are a few dollars and get back in the running an X you know he's -- a ticket right after Massachusetts. Oh six's you know the Republicans quite frankly screwed up in Washington -- governor ethically sitting governor responsibly terms of finances -- bigger. So the core beliefs of the party we're gonna cast aside in and we paid a price the Iraq War I mean you had people saying mama all I'm concerned about the Iraq War. We don't have saved the state -- level on the Iraq War we can send a letter we can't really do much more than the average citizen and you. They'll then -- it was all about you know change change change change. And you know -- Are you going to be anybody if if the argument you made in 04. 06. Or -- about balance. Change. One party government doesn't work. If those of the reasons you voted in this election you need to give every Republican candidate serious hard luck and I would say even sort of a going with a biased you gonna vote for them. Because all of those reasons you voted maybe Democrat in those three years. Those reasons you before Republican Massachusetts that's for sure let's protocol -- he Proehl you run with state representative Brad Jones.

Hello Jennifer how are you today. Good proposed casino here why why why because. -- casino can't stop contain an audio of -- businesses around -- to dry up because that agreed to cause that could be don't expect. Which Karadzic said earlier it's just like what I hope so Kerry -- that rebel war -- will let them. The infrastructure already have all got to look at how.

Well that's the whole like dearest sort of this resort casino white deer is that it is. All sort of one place you know you've been if you've been got a fox woods or Mohegan Sun.

Nobody.

I hope to like ooh Louisiana -- regrettable and stuff like.

Yeah the -- you know I would like to riverboat in Boston Harbor I you know that would make sense to me so when we have -- risen and people here and they wanna gamble and -- of their money here in the state that that wouldn't -- that I dear to me that is a good thing -- the important thing that we do in Massachusetts is that there -- a lot of different examples off across the country have Las Vegas -- Atlantic City you have. Examples don't wanna do Atlantic Friday right -- a lot of examples. Of of places that it has gone very well done very poorly. You know when the things you don't think -- DC -- mr. Marshall of this is next few bullets are gonna enough oxygen and gamble and taken show on the negotiate maybe boxing match would negotiate concert when -- go shopping. That's you know upwards of a billion dollars a year mean there's a reason Mohegan Sun and foxwoods advertise on the billboards on 93. Cutting through Boston it's not because people in Massachusetts I'm going. So we are losing potentially a lot of good resources.

I can't understand that but what -- trying to figure your your don't drive the businesses that are better you know ridiculous shots so selfish it's -- to -- Looks. Like -- get casino type you know we're always. One on one side sits outside.

All Paul Paul what if you had one. Down on the cape you know win this a lot of tourism and one out sort of big western Massachusetts. Close enough to Boston that people can get there are you eating your lunch while we're talking here.

What's.

He's he's well he's played Tina we saw the -- right now. Let's -- let's grab a call for Jeff the in the car you run with state representative Brad Jones on the Charlie -- so how are you.

How much do we know about Robert de Leo and his association the -- of the points.

Well you know what he's gonna be on in the next hour and one of the things he says Ike Ike -- into view on one of the TV stations when he came out with this proposal for the reach scene goes these over the things they wanna put it the tracks that minorities have. And what they wanna do is have slot machines that they have them in other states mean has you know there's a bunch states. But he says hey I'll admit -- two tracks in my district. -- is really gonna help my personal history you know he represents dares get one -- at Suffolk downs one set thoroughbred horse racing ones that are racing. The vote is closed on drag racing and quite frankly a lot of good people were doubts I feel about the -- a lot of people. That work that industry are around the job.

We you know there's a lot of other things auto industry is another -- you increase and a pass that involve. Something that absolutely poison society. The way. Gambling I was actually apple and I myself. Want to go -- got to be the most disgusting depressing place forever and now -- Michael.

Thinks it think it's exciting to have to watch those ads and that he's walking around and are all this site it is did you know what -- great. Food and there watching. Frank Sinatra or somebody like him is up there it's pretty cool you know.

It is it there's a lot of -- lot of fun things about it but it's. Something that is -- In a lot of very very limited basis. And and make it to do it just put the egg. You know what's gonna be best for the people Massachusetts that Barack. It went away all the pros and constitute really actually does not -- Well I think that's why I'm very -- arm I would like.

very skeptical I you know I look and see how many. Thousands and does is a -- are going down there and spending knows those dollars are concerned about down there and I am I will agree review. Anybody holds out the idea of expanding gaming as the as the panacea everything we need to do to cure our economy in Massachusetts. Is is is misleading humans being disingenuous and dishonest I would never ever do that. You know to me it's it's it's 11 issue. That we each considering -- discussion -- but never the idea that if we do this everybody's its full employment -- chicken in every pot knowledge that that's just not right that's not fair.

I've heard a lot of negative feedback people in Connecticut about the fact -- these you know on nab a property values crime -- walked in the door.

It's a choice but we already have a lot of gambling in our state we have this thing called the lottery that is. Billions of dollar millions of people spend on billions of dollars so four billion dollars a year it's amazing. 26666. Seasonable let's grab one more call before we take a break Cheryl. From Massachusetts you're on with state representative Brad.

Hi Brad it's nice to have you on the shell. And I'm calling. I'm really concerned about casino. And I I've spent some time around fox would. And and I'm concerned about what it does to the surrounding areas. And what -- even more I hear much talk from the politicians. As. It being a way to create jobs. And I hope you.

Worked there first you get some jobs from the people building them and then you get some jobs from the people that I mean. They do a lot of people that work at the casinos in the hotels and golf course in the resort and everything that would go along with that Cheryl.

Well the big awful track -- because site I am income traction and I actually design buildings and I have. -- might practiced really get this -- filled with this housing crisis. And I used to be able to create hundreds of jobs and what here need these politicians have been great idea but the scene of -- and not. Looking at how the current economic situation as his man sold so many people that. Had the ability to create job I.

Well just one quick thing you have one of the most powerful legislative leaders you're talking to a what would be the one thing Brad Jones could do what message could he bring to the state house that would help your business. If the state did this it would help my business what is it.

They need it. Somehow not mandating. Every saying that they have the mandates have caught housing crisis. We -- this mantle my client base. The mandate on health insurance are riding out premiums sky high and people in small business -- Ford -- premium anymore and we're afraid to go have been thought there. Do well Patrick can't handle town hall meetings over the past week and he -- testimony from small businesses. And high and it in -- in and warrant and each earth. And I urge all these legislators in this state to go and get the transcript. From both town hall meeting under.

Don't worry date they don't have to read transcripts are down get I get like I read it sounds I hear us and people are concerned about here all the time. Let's take a quick break and we'll be back and do some more calls with state representative Brad Jones the house minority leader 6172666068. On WRKO.

Christie -- house one of the Republicans running and then state treasurer and independent candidate Tim Kay hill. And now in these next two hours we're moving to where. All the actions going to be over the next few months and that's with the legislature and we it's been great having state representative Brad Jones the house minority leader and and then next hour we will have the speaker of the house himself Bob Leo so. We will continue this a lot of folks are interested in this gambling questioning gaming question Brad. Because it's gonna be the issue of the spring don't you think it's going to be a big issue I think it's can be big issue we take up in the house before we deal with a budget. Let's grab another call here Raymond in the car you're next with the state representative Brad Jones on the Charlie Ningxia.

How you do and -- good -- are you gambler. -- you're gambler. Do you know when to hold them know when to fold them. Yeah -- side of gambling economic photogenic Qassam museum. Yeah or greater. You tell me. What are your typical portable other well. Do you think we ought to have gambling in the state would you like to have a casino in Massachusetts.

We've got -- they're gambling -- yeah so -- a bit younger. Of course sold a Bosnian resumed -- liquor available.

I -- and get his point if people gambling and drinking we let people drink but we sorted don't let them gamble wildly. We still have a lot of gambling going on between them you know some votes to go out. Lottery. Churches and and one quarter and gambling thing and it is that's you know -- to Cologne on the fraternal organizations have exactly how things they'd recognize yes -- Texas problems in all markets so there is there isn't gambling let's go to Chris and Randolph you're next with state representative Brad Jones hey Chris.

You don't -- couples during. It's I looked -- ratios. They need to get out what it had better do this correctly. Everything should go -- did.

it's my thing just -- a broken down racetrack in you've hung in the air for twenty years with that. Why should you get a license to print money.

Well at the -- that we talked about broken out racetracks okay these spoke out racetrack orders and I got no one album very well. Made it jail where it was caught. Twenty -- quite IB is a ball and dirty -- to go there at the right patrol all twelve years ago ordered Scott diet. It was -- 88. Bits and at its main at all they all all of that got money to real estate. And expanded witches it'll good for them and they've made -- chill in -- RBI while.

So Chris but should we do it would do you think we ought to have a couple casinos here.

If you're gonna do that makes you know. In casinos that and ask people what they do wanna maximize the state. Profit margins. You're making waffles -- state stressed out but did and I think you'll be surprised. Bad what you can get the debate and I would dole what I would also do I would tool. Channel if it fits so well -- it goes back a bit sixteen yes.

Well I don't know though would I would that I would I go build put my money into building a giant casino if I only knew I have the license for fifteen years it's one of the things it was talked about was that you do this initial. Entry fee you know feeling I gonna pay a million dollars to one of these licenses. And then Friday is after the fact we're gonna come back and look at your book of business and Chad June additional license fee. Because you may mean may hit it -- you -- really really well announces a lot of different models of the about the problem we -- face you know as we don't ago we don't have something we can say. Mike you were only a speaker coming up in this next hour we can we cannot dive in on this with a -- Greg -- called bill and data. Your next and last this -- with representative Brad Jones we're coming up to the top of the hour so get your question.

Great show let's and I work with general the -- quite secure than you are your retirement. Why why why -- in the state party is put a cap on the in the -- right all the attention because right now they don't pay any taxes on the tension I would. But at 3040000. Dollar limit in -- that. What it would be turned out for the pension systems which continue to --

We think -- but we've proposed cap we have vote on house. How to -- now. Do you think it turns. And that -- because proposed a cap a lot of people -- capped at this exhibit at the highest -- can only be so much more than the lowest average. Now we're giving you saw our story and gloomy view last week to -- attack my company so the explosion pensions over 1000 dollars. This would eliminate all of those colorful and economic capitalist.

Bret thank. Dexter and you know we just got a scoop we got a scoop but banks I think Brett gave you good answer. And Brett thanks so much my pleasure and thank you I'm gonna talk to the speaker in the next hour and I'm gonna propose that. We have sort of the speaker and you win not every week but on a regular basis. To talk about the issues you'd be up and I absolutely happy to do it excellent we don't do enough debating announced muzzled him on the radio who takes a lot welts.

Charlie Manning -- you know I think so many folks -- interest in gambling it in gaming and what's gonna be coming down the pike and we've got the speaker coming up in the next hour. Let's not take some calls on that to start the next -- I think will be fund would love to hear from you want it we can report to. But the Leo what you're all thinking about it. 6172666868.
